As part of our Selena-themed trip, we drove from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, and the Selena Memorial Statue was our second stop. We were excited to visit this tribute to such an iconic artist, and it was well worth the visit. When we arrived, we were able to find parking close to the memorial, making it easy to access. As we walked up, we could hear Selena's music playing through the speakers, along with information about her life and career. It really helped create a meaningful and memorable experience. The statue itself is beautiful and sits under a gazebo, allowing visitors to walk all the way around it. There are plaques and inscriptions that share more about Selena's legacy, and we enjoyed taking the time to read them and reflect on her impact. This is also a fantastic spot for photos. The memorial's location along the Gulf Coast adds to the atmosphere, providing beautiful views and a peaceful setting that complements the tribute perfectly. Whether you're a lifelong Selena fan or simply visiting Corpus Christi, this memorial is definitely worth stopping by. Such a lovely memorial to pay tribute to a talent taken far too soon. In addition to the statue, the sculpture has inscriptions with information about Selena, quotes, etc. Everything is house in a lovely pavilion right on the bay in Corpus. A recording also plays with a woman narrating information and facts about Selena. It's not only a beautiful piece of art but educational as well. read more

If you're in Corpus Christi, you absolutely should take the time to visit the Selena Memorial statue. Whether you're a fan of Selena, her music, or the impact she made on Mexican-American culture, it's a meaningful way to pay homage and appreciate her legacy. This monument is located on the seawall and near Norma Urban Park. Please take the time to check out everything the area has to offer. There are also historical plaques and other works of art located in the area. I thought the memorial statue was very well done. There is an audio recording informing of Selena's rise to fame as well as her accomplishments. Visiting here was on my bucket list while on vacation in Corpus Christi. Don't pass on the opportunity to see this celebration of Selena. read more

I'll admit, I don't know the first thing about Selena; but moving to Texas has shown me that I NEED to look into her. I did tons of research and was shocked by what I found. Beautiful music, a tragic story, so seeing this memorial was a must for me. It's beautiful. The scenery around it, the way they designed it, it's just really nice. Parking is pretty easy along the street to walk to see it, you also get an awesome view of a harbor and boats. If you're into bird watching, there tons of birds hanging around. We even saw a couple dolphins which was awesome! If you're visiting Corpus Christi and don't want to pay to go to the museum; this is a great alternative. read more

When in Texas... We didn't have time to make it to the Selena museum, so the memorial statue was a must. Just look for the cars along the walk and the elite truck, and you'll find the way. There was a man making roses out of palms to sell for the queen of cumbia. The views were nice and there was a snowie down the way. Perfect tribute, as the memorial talks and gives a quick explanation. 2021 #62 read more

Ive been coming to this memorial for years and I have loved it!! She was such a beautiful soul and this statue does her justice. The beauty of the beach in the background makes it all That much better. This is a tourist stop that everyone stops to go and take a picture here. I highly recommend going in the evening to watch the sunset afterwards because the views are gorgeous. We went during the 4th of July parade and had the best view for the fireworks! read more

Selena Quintanilla-Perez was known as the "Queen of Tejano Music". She was a Grammy Artist. It's too sad she was tragically murdered by the leader of her fan club. Selena was 23 years young. She is actually buried about 2 miles from here. City of Corpus Christi Selena Memorial; Mirador De La Flor is the full name of this monument. It is located at Peoples St and N Shoreline Blvd. Just follow the road near the Gulf and you will find a white building with arches. This Lookout of the Flower, where the monument is, overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. It was unveiled in 1997. In 2000, there was a barrier placed around the pillar where her statue, white rose, and plaque are. They want to deter graffiti and vandalism. I wouldn't be surprised if there were also cameras to keep watch over the area. There is a 5'8" bronze statue of Selena and a recording which plays in a loop about her. A Corpus Christi artist named H.W. Tatum sculpted this statue. It is painful for parents to lose a child and there is a tile on the ground with a sentiment from her parents. It says, " We will never forget you -Love Mom and Dad". There are stairs leading down to the lower level of the walls of this memorial. There are about 5 or 6 mosaics of white roses down there. White Roses were her favorite flowers. The one tiled sign says "These floral tiles were hand-painted by Texas children who loved Selena". I missed this the first time I went. Then, my son-in-law's family wanted to look at the monument and I took the chance to walk down the steps to see them. Glad I got to see them! I'm not a Selena fan, but I was told I should look for it and I found it. If you are ever somewhat near there, you should go also! read more

Viva Selena! This beautiful memorial to Selena is located right on Shoreline overlooking the beach. This memorial serves as tribute to the greatest Tejano star of all-time. She was taken too early from us when she was murdered by the president of her fan club. Her mega-super stardom shows on this amazing statue and shrine to her. Along the floor, you can see where people have written graffiti professing their love for her music and the impact she made on millions of lives. Flowers adorn the statue, and there is a voice over a PA that gives a little history about who Selena was. The speech is in Spanish and English. It's a cool, free thing to see in Corpus. Well, it's a statue of a Tejano icon that overlooks the bay. That's pretty much it. The rendering of Selena was a letdown and she's kind of glancing nowhere in particular. Even the inscription on the memorial was kind of a, "What the hell was that?" My children could've written a more poignant memorial to her. I just feel like it could've been a LOT more for a woman who was so full of life. read more

The Selena memorial statue is a beautiful tribute to the late singer. Located off of N Shoreline Blvd in Corpus Christi, when you're standing next to it, you feel the breeze from the water and it kind of calms you and makes you feel like, maybe, just maybe she's there with you. This is definitely a stop for anyone in the area who is a Selena fan. The bronze statue also plays music and talks about Selena's life and legacy in both English and Spanish. There are bricks which people write on and leave messages to Selena, mostly that they miss her and hope she's resting in paradise. I would have brought a marker had I known, however, please do not write on the actual memorial itself. You'll see a sign there indicating this as well. You can park right along the street (for free) to pay your respects to the fallen singer. It's one of the many places in Corpus Christ that help keep Selena's memory alive. Selena Vive! read more

This is a neat little memorial dedicated to Selena, the famous tejano singer from the 90s. I didn't realize she was from Corpus Christi and was educated by the written placards at the memorial site. I was also unaware that Selena created this new genre of music that had previously never been heard. Growing up I heard her songs on the radio and my Spanish teacher in middle school always had her album on as we were entering class or at various fiestas we had. I'm glad there is a memorial here for people to remember her by - she may be gone from this world, but her music lives on forever in the hearts of millions. Parking is available along the street nearby the memorial, and there is precisely one shave ice stand across from the memorial that sits in the blazing hot sun. I visited on Tuesday, September 29th, 2020. I still could see many fans. Even I saw a little girl. I parked a car at N.Shoreline Blvd. The ocean views were great. I took pictures. A beautiful statue, a beautiful memorial fitting for such a beautiful, talented singer taken far too soon from us. The question will always be asked-What could've been? The Selena Memorial Statue is located right near Corpus Christi Bay in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Tourists flock from near and far just to gaze and admire over it. The few times I went to check it out, people were gathered there by the almost hundreds to take pictures with it. Mind you, we were there during Fiesta de la Flor, so tourism they was at an all time high. It is a big, yet beautiful bronze statue. It's name is Mirador de la Flor. In English, it is translated to 'Overlooker of the Flower.' The statue is located not too far from her burial site. You don't even have to be a Selena fan to visit this beautiful landmark. My dream has come true, since I was a little girl I loved Selena, I had every magazine she was in. I memorized every song she sang and watched all her music videos. I ordered the catalog for her store and wished I had money to had ordered clothes from her shop. After she passed I was so hearbroken and cried for months and always wished I could one day go to Corpus Christi, to see where she grew up and loved so much. I finally did it. As soon as I arrived, I went to see her statue and I felt her presence, her light was around, her spirit, her smile imprinted into my brain. It was nice to see this memorial to Selena. It is at the intersection of Shoreline and Peoples. There is a Landry's restaurant on a boat in the pier within walking distance in case you want to eat after visiting this memorial. There were some of her fans there in chanclas all crying. But they should not be sad, Selena is with the Lord. As for that midget Saldivar, she is locked up but is eligible for parole in 2025 so yall be ready to protest to keep that troll in prison. read more

Just the mention of Selena is worthy of 5 estrellas. I thought it would be cheesy but it was well, emotional. A beautiful, talented singer gone way for soon. I swear the waves of people coming to pay respects to the queen is never ending. There is not only her statue but also a rose. I actually didn't know Selena was murdered in Corpus Christi and buried here. The Days Inn she was murdered is 5 miles up and her burial site is 5 miles from her memorial statute. Interesting things about Selena: - Her parents were convinced they were having a boy. The name they had chosen was Marc Anthony - She was raised as a Jehovah's Witness - She was buried in the purple outfit she wore to the 1995 Tejano Music Awards just a month before she died read more

I always stop here when I'm in Corpus. Mario Gomez takes care of the statue & often gives fans "Selena Tours". He is usually there so make sure to say hi and thank him for taking care of the statue. He was in the Selena movie and was Selena's neighbor so he has plenty of stories to tell. read more

The Selena Memorial was beautiful and understated. I was impressed. I do consider myself a fan of Selena but I didn't expect it to bring me to tears - I think a lot of it was the music playing, which adds tremendous beauty and impact to the memorial. I was glad to be wearing sunglasses on the beautiful Corpus Christi sea wall because some tears were shed. It just felt so loving and reverent. Definitely a neat experience to come to Corpus Christi and be able to take a few moments to remember this wonderful star. read more

This crab guards the entrance of the Rockport Beach, one of the finest beaches in Texas. Rockport is known for its seafood that they catch here. The blue crab is one of them! Rockport previously had another crab statue that was on top of a seafood restaurant. It lived there from the 1950's to about the 1970's when it fell into disrepair due to hurricane damage. However, in 2012, artist David Allgood unveiled a bigger better crab. Rockport is really into the arts, and this is a great example! It's across the street from a sculpture garden, and compliments the area nicely! Don't worry, this statue doesn't say anything about the disposition of people from Rockport, they're friendly! The funny thing about this crab is that it's a hermaphrodite. It is a male crab with female claws.

We took this bridge from a couple times from downtown Corpus Christi to North Beach. This is an…read moreold bridge, it was opened to traffic in 1959. I love the arch and all the metal work. We never went across it at night, but in 2011, they added LED lighting system. It would have been cool to see it at night, but the opportunity never arose. You can view this bridge from so many places! We saw it from the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington on the North Beach side. I'm afraid to report that this bridge is now being replaced with a taller bridge. So tall in fact, that it will be built above the current bridge. It will look very different and modern, a bridge with strands of cables . The new bridge will allow larger ships to pass under it. After the completion of this new bridge, the current one will be demolished. That is what I've read.

TLDR: Very old (1,000+) oak tree that has withstood a vast number of hurricanes. Quick stop, with a…read morenice walking loop around the tree. Located inside a state park and requires an entry fee ($5 pp) to access. Visually, this tree is not as beautiful as some similar senior oaks. For instance, Angel Oak in SC has that magical sprawling limb look while this tree has had many limbs trimmed. It's still amazing to know how long this tree has been around (estimated longer than Angel Oak, placed at 1,000 years at least). Even more impressive is how many hurricanes it's withstood due to its proximity to the Gulf (40-50, according to my research). This tree is located inside Goose Island State Park and thus, requires you to pay the entrance fee to access. $5 per adult; kids 12 and under are free. So you can either cough up the money to see the tree and leave or you can try to find other activities in the park. Personally, I didn't really find anything else for our family to do there that was superior to other activities in the area. There's a fishing pier but it seemed narrow and crowded with fishermen. If you fish or hike, you might find more stuff to do but we came here with toddlers so there wasn't much else for us. This is a nice quick stop. You can do a short walking loop around the tree -- it's very child-friendly. My kids enjoyed running around the tree. There are benches to sit, if desired. I found the poem on the sign a bit comical -- it was solemn and reverent and then at the end, you discovered that it was just an appeal for a donation. Ha. Well done, tree.

The only thing that bothered me was the etiquette of some of the other attendees. Some of them were really loud and commenting loudly on each piece which kind of took away from my experience. They also happened to have a dance performance from the Texas AMA inside which is cool, power to all arts including dance but it was distracting and smack dab in the middle of some interesting pieces I would've liked more time with before my flight. Elizabeth's was a cool restaurant. The blood orange ahi tuna was really delicious like spot on. My martini was okay. They didn't have olives and I've had better being from vegas. Prices are fair though and the staff is decently nice. Lots of crying babies in there when I went though which kind of killed the artsy vibe I was hoping for but I guess that happens in a touristy part of town in Texas. Overall it was nice I'm just a sensitive person and enjoy quiet to ponder art and eat my meal so consider that if you're traveling solo and are similar I suppose. Gift shop was cool and I had a nice chat with the lovely lady in there. And the security guard was cool, he let me store my luggage with him. It's a quick walk over from the convention center so if you want a little art time and a quick drink and meal that's super convenient, it's kind of a no brainer.

I recommend seeing the inside of the home first and then touring the basement. They started building the home in 1874 and moved in during 1877. The family lived in the home until 1895. The home had many modern updates most homes did not have in that time period. It is beautiful and I love the history. Parking is free. They have a small gift shop in the ticket area.
