After calling everyone I could think of, including the board of water supply, with no one providing any help, I typed in "plumbers" into Yelp and started cold calling down the list. First Class Plumbing was the third company listed but the first one that seemed to care. I was warned that I was calling after hours so I'd have an emergency fee if I wanted service now... I joked "fine - this is an emergency" and was told I'd get a call back as soon as they could get ahold of one of their plumbers. I went back to trying to heave buckets of water into a nearby sink and received a call back 15 minutes later. The plumber was so calm, and after hearing that I was still dealing with gushing water, explained to me how to stop the water flow. He asked me to send him pictures of the burst pipe and the faucet and got off the phone to price everything out including replacing the pipes and faucet. After doing all that work he told me what the cost would be and then said it was no worries if given the price I didn't want to continue on - or at least wait until it wasn't an emergency (an extra $150 charge). I said I definitely wanted the service and he came right out and fixed the burst pipe. I would already have been raving about this place for their competent service if it had been a normal scheduled appointment. But the fact that this company and the plumber were there for me when no one else was, and went above and beyond walk me through how to stop the problems and extremely quickly look into part costs for me before I ever even agreed to the service has made me a loyal customer forever!

I have saved the emails, written estimate, text messages, and voicemails related to my experience, so I can support the statements in my Yelp review. Here is what happened from my perspective: I called A-1 and explained a straightforward plumbing project that I wanted completed. Based on that conversation, I understood that A-1 would come out and perform the described work at $150 per hour plus materials. Instead, someone came out to provide an estimate. I was charged $150 for the estimate, plus travel time, for a total of $235.60. No plumbing work was performed. The entire $235.60 charge was for the visit and estimate. To be fair, A-1 did later credit me the travel-time charge because that charge had not been disclosed to me beforehand. Because of the costly estimate they gave me, I did not go with them and paid $196.34 to get an estimate.
