I called for a backed up toilet. The lady who answered was friendly and accommodating and let me know ahead of time that if it was after hours a different (emergency) rate would be charged. The 2nd time the water from the shower faucet was not shutting off even though the value was turned off. I was in a panic after giving my 97yr Mother a bath. The shower did not turn off no matter which way I turned. I called JBC Plumbing and spoke with Clarissa who stayed on the phone with me after hours and helped me locate a valve to turn off. She was so patient and guided me through every step. At the end Clarissa called BOW to shut off the water since I was so stressed and in a panicky mode. I don't know if any company who would help over the phone, just the BEST customer service. Ryan and his son came the next day and changed the cartridge and replaced with the correct shower cartridge and removed the faucet cartridge incorrectly installed by the bathroom renovation. My living room ceiling had water spots so I called JBC plumbing thinking the cause was from the bathroom above. Clarissa was so nice and she helped me book a repair appointment within a week. I asked for an estimate but she said they wouldn't know unless they open the ceiling (and I'm new to this and thought if they OPEN the ceiling they would CLOSE/patch the ceiling and didnt find out till later they don't). Josh and his assistant came on time and got to work right away. He fixed what he thought was the problem at first (leaking toilet) and offered to open the ceiling to check for the leak but I opted out because he said he could open a hole in the ceiling but not patch it and i didn't want a hole just sitting there (ended up having to do that anyway). Fast forward a couple hours later in the day and the ceiling started leaking water onto the floor. I called JBC and they rushed back, cut holes into the ceiling to find it wasn't a toilet issue, it was a leaking AC condensation line! So I had to call the AC people who did my maintence a week prior to fix it. JBC was great! Im greatful for them I just wish I was notified in the beginning they can only open the ceiling, not close it, so I could have booked with another company to close it. The technicians were great but when it came down to paying my $145 hourly rate which is what I was quoted went to $366 after one hour and 10 minutes of work. Definitely not okay with that. Straight robbery. In response to owner: We messaged that we had two toilets that were malfunctioning, and that we also wanted an overall inspection of the plumbing in the house. Any reasonable person would foresee that something else might arise if we're asking for an inspection. Your exact message back to me was "Hi, we charge 145 an hour plus a 35 dollar dispatch. Please let us know if you will like to schedule. Thank you". Nowhere in that do you say "we charge 145 per project" or "we charge 145 per item that needs repair". You said 145 per hour, and we understood 145 per hour and so that's the information with which we chose to proceed. We scheduled and price wasn't discussed further until work was done and you hit us with a bill that was more than double what you said. Your example that you gave is completely different in circumstance, as a mechanic would list out different services and give quotes for each service. You gave an hourly rate. You're literally describing a bait and switch situation. The situation is more like: Walmart hires a cashier for 20/hr. They agree on set price. Employee shows up to work and rings up a customer. When they ring up a second customer, they expect to be paid 40/hr. Doesn't make sense, right? read more

This review is only on JBC fees and request for pricing experience for my intended work and not on their workmanship as I did not use their services. I first called to get an estimate to install a toilet that I would be purchasing and have on site for installation including wax ring, supply lines, bolts and caps if needed. I was told $145 per hour + travel time $35 and I believe a minimum of 2 hours would be charged. When I received the toilets from the supplier and ready for installation, I called again to schedule an appointment to install 2 toilets and was told that they charged a fix fee of $600 per toilet installation or $1,200 for installing 2 toilets. The time and material that I was first quoted applied to repairs only and that they only offered a flat rate fee. I was shocked and had to clarify if she meant $600 to install 2 toilets which would have been still expensive to me because I have observed and helped install toilets during the construction of my home and friend's homes. Unfortunately, I'm too old to DIY. The gal confirmed $600 per toilet. I politely told her "No Thank You" as I didn't feel like paying $1,200 for labor only which would only take no more than 2 to 2-1/2 hours of work. JBC has the right to charge whatever it wants because it's their business, but it makes me think that they don't want to do toilet installation by offering such high pricing but if do get the job, it would be very profitable one. I was planning on using them at their $145 per hour rate when I first called but when they changed it to what amounted to be $600 per hour, which I calculated it to be assuming that the toilet would take no more than an hour and it if did, I would be okay to pay for another hour of work. Fortunately, I found another professional and reasonably priced plumber on YELP that charged me only $150 per toilet including the accessories with no travel time. They did a fantastic job that took less than 2 hours and in addition provided a 1-year warranty for leaks or malfunctioning of the toilet (even though they did not furnish it). I arranged for C&C bulky rubbish to haul away the old toilets for free that others would charge an additional fee Though this exercise, I found that it is best to get several quotes unless you don't mind paying whatever is proposed to you. read more
