Initially, we were unsure where to enter; there's a barn structure and a house and we didn't want to walk into someone's home accidentally! But, the tasting room is indeed located in the unassuming converted house. The interior has a bar area, a couple seating spaces and an outdoor space. The tasting is generous, 5 wines for $5 plus the slushies. This winery specializes in fruit wines, which tend to be sweeter than what I typically drink. However, the pear wine was a refreshing delight after our day in the steamy outdoors. The slushies were surprising-I also don't usually like these because of their sweetness- but the ones here were not sticky sweet. Small charcuterie snacks are offered if you need a snack with your flight, glass or bottle. I wish I got the name of the woman helping us. We had great conversation and she made the experience comfortable, casual and just fun. Tilted Compass was the kind of place you can visit after enjoying a day outside at the park. Or add this winery to your list of new places to try for a low key weekend adventure.

However, we found out after we got there if you wanted to participate in the big green egg fest, it was an additional $20 which my wife and my friend's wife wanted to try dearly. The food was delicious. Well worth the $20 and by the way all of that went to charity so kudos to them. the unfortunate thing for us was we got there at 3:30 and got great seats however it got so crowded people were walking all over you. if you wanted a beer or a mixed drink it was well over a 30 minute wait. we ended up leaving about 6:30 PM because we were getting trampled by people and there was no way to get any thing to drink without at least a 30 minute wait. it was pretty disappointing. One last thing the music was good.

It's about the cozy tasting room, the friendly staff, the overall aesthetic, and the outstanding food. I got fish and chips, and my wife got chicken strips and fries. I was taken aback by the small, bite sized pieces of fish at first, but they were just fantastic. I mean perfect! My wife loved her chicken, and we both raved about the fries. It was all piping hot and very filling for a reasonable price. We sat outside and ate while listening to a good live band. It was a wonderful afternoon. I'd go back there just to eat. Great place we both highly recommend.

You don't have to go to California or the Bourbon Trail for a great wine and bourbon tasting…read moreexperience because right in the little town of Zionsville is an amazing tasting bar. The bar is owned and locally operated by Ron Hopwood. Ron makes and bottles his own wines and bourbons. Most of the grapes are locally grown. I have passed by his bar for years because I was skeptical of Midwest wines until I had a bottle of his chardonnay at the local pizzeria. The chardonnay was so smooth and delicious, that I walked down the street to his tasting room. The cozy upscale bar is FILLED with Hopwood wines and bourbons. He offers tastings or you can buy a bottle or glass. and sit at one of his lovely tables and sip. He even sells charcuterie boards and dipping breads to pair with your wine. Awards for the wines cover a wall. Ron is most proud of winning the 2019 American Wine Societies award for best cabernet sauvignon. The wines are inexpensive and they offer special pricing to Club members. To be a member, one needs to commit to buying 2 bottles/month or 2 cases/year. It's such a great deal that I am going back over this week to join. Ron has special events for Club members! Hopwood is a great place to sneak away on a date or with your bff. It is cozy and delicious.

Unfortunately, I did learn that Hopwood Cellars is closing its doors for good in June, so it was a good thing I came back to visit. Hopwood Cellars is one of the best wineries in Indiana that I have been to since living in Indianapolis. The owner is a great guy and very friendly and helpful to the customers. His staff is very knowledgeable on the wines, and the ambiance is beautiful. The Cabernet Sauvignon is my personal favorite wine. They also have a great Chardonnay as well. The winery does sell flights of wine so you can sample a few wines. The wine milkshakes are supposedly out of this world, so I would stop by before the end of June 2025 to try one, or else you will miss out on the opportunity. The bar area goes around the facility and is very nice. They have a wine sample card you can purchase to try a bunch of wines as well. The staff definitely knows what they are doing, and they are very professional on presenting the wines. I'm sad that Hopwood Cellars is closing this year because it was a good winery and one of my favorites in Indiana. I wish the owner nothing but the best, but I know he will succeed in whatever business he decides to do next. Farewell to Hopwood Cellars Winery! We will miss you!
