Not only was the wine incredible (and now some of my favorites) but the food was just as good. While the brunch board is pricey, it's basically brunch for two people and every item was delicious. The flavors and textures we just couldn't stop raving about. Definitely not something I could even begin to figure out how to cook at home. While staying at the McCormick's Creek Inn, we visited the winery. Great, quiet place in the boonies; beautiful setting. Enjoyed several of their wines. Among them, brought Old River Red home. We opened it the other night and it was totally closed with no nose and little taste. We decanted and aerated and put away for 24 hrs. The next day it was a deep, vibrant, memorable red. Worth the drive. The winery recently added a Sunday brunch and our visit today was a perfect way to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Inside seating available, we opted for one of the picnic tables in the shade. Outside also boasts twinkle lights, bocci ball, corn hole and a rotating sculpture from the nearby sculpture trail. There is also a beautiful hand blown glass installation in front of the main entrance to the building. In the past we had the Charcuterie and sandwiches which were good, but the new brunch board is wonderful. Our group split two board across five people and it was plenty of food. A stop post hike at McCormick's creek. It's off the main roads, as others have noted, but there are signs in case you lose your mapping app. We each did a tasting, 4 wines for $8. The pours are generous and there's a wide selection to chose from. You can get the wine slushies and cider in your flight, too. The Georgia cupcake is a must have. The 4 of us split one and I'm not a sweets person but this was fantastic. They also have a rotating cheesecake. The inside seating area is small but there's a nice outdoor patio with tables and chairs and picnic tables in the yard. read more

On a whim, two of us drove there. As we pull up on a Saturday evening, I hear the unmistakable sound of Kade Puckett, a local multi-genre guitar hero. The wines are good, the setting lovely. We came to late in the day for food. It's a large rural setting with lots of places to sit in the sun or shade. We'll be back to try the food. Off the beaten path, worth a road trip to visit the quaint winery with extra tasty wine options produced on site. The owner was very insightful and he was a delight to chat with about their quality wines. They have over a 100 persimmon trees that are useful to produce two persimmon wines and one is kept in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel to add that extra kick. Sulfites often bother me, no bother here as these wines were all interesting and delicious. Support this locally owned business that supports others locally for sourced items. Can't wait to return here to sit outside with some wine, friends and the dog. Nice find to have an extra creamy piece of cheese cake while over looking their well kept grounds. read more

Such a cute and local winery. We haven't visited too many around here but this one still tops the ones we have. We tried Oliver Winery and after having Owen Valley, we won't be going back to Oliver. We had to pay separately for each thing to eat and then unpack it all outside in the heat at Oliver. Here it is prepared nicely, tastes wonderful, and we ALWAYS love whatever drinks we get (we have tried quite a bit). Such a beautiful winery! This is off the beaten path a ways, but definitely worth the trip if you're near Spencer. The winery has lots of table space available for guests & have an "order at the counter" system which is nice. It's very laidback inside & the owners and staff are so friendly. I usually get a wine flight to try multiple wines, but on this visit we decided to get their special Sangrja pitcher. It was a great deal and so good! We also ordered the Brie board & a grilled cheese to snack on. The appetizer boards are very filling and perfect to eat on while wine tasting. If you like tasty wine and good conversation, make a point of traveling a few miles south of Spencer to check out this family owned/run winery. They have a small vineyard of their own grapes and an orchard where they grow some of the fruits for their wines/ciders. They do have to order some base fruit/juice from other states to offer a wider range of wine types than can be grown locally, but the family handles its own processing of raw ingredients to the wine stage "in-house". As you pull into this rural location, you are likely to be greeted by the large and friendly dog. He is very laid back and seemed part of the charm that exudes from the place. From the lot in front of the tasting room, you can see the vineyard and the outdoor seating area complete with a large tent that offers shade during the hot summer. Once inside, the tasting room is small and has a counter where you will be greeted and offered 6 tastings for $5. Like most wineries, their list begins with the dry wines and progresses to the sweeter ones, including ciders. I had the benefit of being served by the husband/owner of the winery and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the wines, the food that he likes to prepare to go with them, and about the challenges of running a winery. He hopes that business will continue to thrive so that one day, the winery may support a bistro as well. The predominant type of offering here is the fruit wine because of the easy availability of source fruit. But I sampled wines from a variety of types and found quite a few that I really liked. I really enjoyed the "Old River Red" (Petite Sirah) and the "Covered Bridge White" (Cayuga grapes). There also was a tasty Traminette (grown on the property) called "Harvest Moon". Over on the fruit wine side, I sampled the site grown Persimmon, the locally sourced Blackberry, and an apple based cider called the "Cantankerous Neighbor". The cider is much lower in ABV than the wines and has some effervescence. For visitors who want to try something unique, there is also a "Hop Head Mead" which should appeal to IPA drinkers. This winery is worth a visit for singles, families or a group of friends. It's in a beautiful rural location but not hard to find from Bloomington etc. There are 27 different wines for every taste at reasonable prices, also ciders and slushies. The food was a highlight for me, the group I was with shared the huge bread board which was loaded with enough goodies for 6 of us to enjoy. We also added the wonderful goat cheese crostini. The large outdoor space invites you to linger on the patio or at a big picnic table in the shade amongst the grape vines. You can play cornhole or bocce ball or one of the games they have inside. The staff was friendly and helpful in making selections. You can try a flight of wine for $10 if you can't decide. read more

We walked in and there was no one else waiting. They gave us a sheet to pick out our wines for a tasting. As we were doing that a couple people came to check out. Ok, no big deal, we were still deciding. A person from the back come out and asked the girl if she needed help and the girl up front acted annoyed that she asked. Well, I wish she would have stayed. The girl in the tasting/checkout area decided to help the two people that came after us, before us. Then another couple came and she proceeded to help them and they wanted a flight and she asked me to move and get in line because she was helping them! She knew good and well I had been standing there. I was there a good 10 minutes before this person. Needless to say we left without any tasting. Poor, poor customer service. read more

Very cute winery hidden through some back roads. We went on a Saturday night while there was a live band playing. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was nice to sit outside and listen to music while enjoying a the conversation and wine. My husband and I did a wine tasting, he is a beer guy though so he didn't like any of them. He was a good sport. The Crimson and Cream is my favorite I even bought a bottle to take home I should've bought more. When we were walking out the door a friendly older gentlemen was coming in he said goodbye and thanked us for coming. He def could've ignored us and went on his way but it was nice to see his appreciation. My guess was he was the owner. We will def go back when in the area. read more

Tastings only $10 with the keeper glass. Well worth the trek into the country. We came here after the Bloomington Farmers Market and to celebrate a 16th anniversary of Danielle & Richard. We liked the dry reds, the sweet wines especially the Cream and Crimson. Very reasonable prices for bottles, lots of activities on the calendar. Oct 6th sounds like fun, hot air balloon rides. Bocci area, corn hole and lots of outdoor space for an afternoon picnic. Nice service. We will be back. Good goat cheese, fig jam, apricot, almonds and sea salt caramel platter, enough to share! Suggest you try a substitution of blue cheese and a local honey for those who do not like goat cheese. read more

This winery is a gem in Owen Country. I have been there a number of times and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They sponsor community festivals and bring in musicians. But more importantly, every wine I have bought there has been delicious. They have selections of wine from Dry - Semi - Sweet, ciders on tap and wine slushies. The venue ensures safety precautions through enforcing mask wearing, pulling bottles of wine for customers to avoid multiple hand-contacts and to signage for spacing out. To say this winery is rural is an understatement. Just when you think you're lost is when you find yourself in little slice of winery heaven. Middle of nowhere with little to no cell reception so you must unplug for awhile. This was on our Indiana Grown Wine Trail and they have a Groupon (be sure to print, no reception) so when I was researching them I found they have persimmon wine. I was so excited when I read "This wine was crafted to evoke memories of grandma's persimmon pudding." They make a limited amount each year. I love this place! We live just outside of Spencer with our 10 year old son and one month old daughter. When we need to get away to have an hour out two to ourselves, we take the kids to the in laws and we'll take the scenic drive to this place. The road getting there may seem a bit rugged, but soldier on! Once you get there, you'll be greeted by the owner or one of his polite staff. A tasting is only $5 for 5 tastings and the amazing wine itself is worth the trip. He has unique flavors like Persimmon and plum. One of my favorites is his hard cider made from apples! You can bring a growler and have it filled up for only $15. It's a bubbly, fizzy masterpiece. Over all, this place is worth the trip to see a bit of the local flavor. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to this winery. I have been there several times, now, over the last few years. Each time has been terrific. Their Crimson and Cream is my favorite wine, excellent taste. Several times during the summer months they have bands or individuals playing, you bring your own chair, sit on the lawn and listen to some really great music while sipping on wine or perhaps snacking on a cheese plate.
