Stopped in with a friend after hiking at nearby Shakamak State Park. We noticed this winery on our way to the park and made note to stop in on our way home.
Initially, we were unsure where to enter; there's a barn structure and a house and we didn't want to walk into someone's home accidentally! But, the tasting room is indeed located in the unassuming converted house. The interior has a bar area, a couple seating spaces and an outdoor space.
The tasting is generous, 5 wines for $5 plus the slushies. This winery specializes in fruit wines, which tend to be sweeter than what I typically drink. However, the pear wine was a refreshing delight after our day in the steamy outdoors. The slushies were surprising-I also don't usually like these because of their sweetness- but the ones here were not sticky sweet. Small charcuterie snacks are offered if you need a snack with your flight, glass or bottle.
I wish I got the name of the woman helping us. We had great conversation and she made the experience comfortable, casual and just fun.
Tilted Compass was the kind of place you can visit after enjoying a day outside at the park. Or add this winery to your list of new places to try for a low key weekend adventure. read more
