I made my wine run for Thanksgiving, today, and realized I haven't updated my review of Grapevine Cottage in eight years! This is the ONLY place I shop for wine. The shop is locally owned. They have all the wine labeled with ratings, including staff recommendations, so it is easy to pick out a good bottle of wine. The prices are reasonable because they buy in bulk and pass the savings on to the customer. The staff is friendly and knowledgable, without being pushy. I don't hesitate to ask for help. The staff gets to know you after you visit enough. I also like to buy their gift baskets, which make perfect house warming or hostess gifts. They generally have several premade baskets, but I like to have them custom made from items that I select in the store. (You can even bring your own basket.) Baskets generally take a day or two to make up, depending on the time of year. I also like to buy gift cards for my wine drinking friends' birthdays or retirements. The shop is eclectic, cozy and upscale. They offer private parking which is a plus in downtown Zionsville where parking is at a premium. The staff will help carry you wine to the car if you need. Grapevine Cottage is well worth a visit. read more

I've been in downtown Zionsville so many times and have never stopped in. I'm not a huge wine gal, so that had kept me at bay. I peeked in the window one day and my eyes caught on a display of local B. Happy Peanut Butter - a favorite. I headed inside to explore more. That had a really cool selection of local gift baskets, international chocolates and treats, sauces, dried soup mixtures, local cheeses, quality meats, and more. They do have big rooms of impressive wines, but they also had a fridge of unique sakes in cute individual containers (including a sake juice box). There was also a wall of imported and unique beers from around the world. I found a bag of organic tagliatelle from Italy and some cool Italian chocolates that I got for my family. The owners were nice and recommended the risotto mixtures for my next visit. Can't wait to come back! read more

I can only say one negative thing about Grapevine Cottage: their recommendations are TOO good. I've been going to this place for years and the employees are incredible. Super kind, super helpful, extremely knowledgeable. The prices are excellent and I always know that I can get something special there. The range of offerings is broad, so you don't have to have a large budget to visit. I've bought amazing wines for $9.99 and great wines for $90, and I'm sure I haven't hit the ceiling. I especially love the cellar cards they have for every wine, telling you what to expect, sometimes including pairing notes, and reminding you when will be the best time to drink each wine. I tape the cards to my wine bottles at home so I can easily make selections and save wines for the right time. As for the place itself, it's cozy and warm, and just that homey, Zionsville vibe. This shop is a real gem to the Indianapolis area and I'm so glad I live relatively close. The employees are so nice and very knowledgeable. The selection of wine is curated, so you won't find most bottles on the shelf of your local grocery store. Tons of varieties of wine from many different regions can be found with a helpful info card at each display that gives tasting notes and ratings. You can even grab a card to take with you, and I've found this is helpful whenever I open my bottles. Sign up for the Grapevine Cottage newsletter and you'll receive specials and lots of information on the wines you love. There are very useful guides available at the checkout for free, and I learned a lot from "The Wine Guy's Rules of Thumb for Wine." Ample parking is available behind the store (with a back entrance) or on the street. You can also find a selection of gourmet foods in the front room of the store that would pair nicely with the wine you select. I'm glad to give my wine-spending dollars to this local shop that is passionate about wine and their customers. read more

They're currently open for curbside pickup only, but don't let that deter you from shopping here. It's easy to find wines on their website either by searching for a specific type or browsing through categories, and you can also call them and they can provide recommendations. In addition to a HUGE variety of wines, they also have cute gifts as well as frozen baguettes you can heat up at home. They're delicious and totally worth the 9-minute wait for them to bake. When you arrive to pick up your order, just give them a call, pop your trunk, and they'll load the car for you. Great service and a really nice small business. read more

I've always loved this store (both Zville and Fishers) but have been super impressed with how they've handled virus and lockdown. I've emailed orders and always gotten a confirmation of receipt as well as super easy to do the curbside pickup. Even when not knowing specifically what I wanted but giving some general "oh this kinda type but you guys pick" instructions I've loved all the wines I've gotten. Highly recommend this for all my wine needs (and lets face it, lockdown needs all the wine). read more

This is a hidden gem in Indianapolis. I stopped in during the Brick Street Festival, and was shocked how large this was! There are several rooms all filled with various wines. It's broken out by country and also type of wine so it easy to locate what you are looking for. It's a vast selection of wines with a large range in cost; easy to find a bottle under $10 or one for over $100. I love the variety of wines, and there are cheeses and accessories at the front of the store. If you're looking to try a new wine with people who can give good insight and selections based on preferences, this is the place! Highly, highly recommend for any wine enthusiasts! read more

I've heard a lot about this place from friends over the years, and finally had a free afternoon to stop in and give it a try. I can understand why my friends kept insisting that visit it. It's important to point out that I am in no way a wine connoisseur. I can't remember all of the grape varietals, can't tell the difference between a '07 and an '08, and don't like to spend much on wine. $10 is a good price for wine. $20 is on the high end of my budget. I also think people are trying to sound smart and sophisticated when they say they can taste the "hints of so and so" as they drink it. Saying all that, I do have some standards. I know wine doesn't belong in a box, and "Boones" isn't the maker of fine wine. I've also been told it's bad luck not to finish a bottle of wine (or I just made it up.. either way, no half-finished bottles around my place.) Enter Grapevine Cottage and their band of wine-soaked misfits. For those wanting a step up from the two buck chuck from Trader Joe's or something that will pair nicely with a dish or event, the folks here are amazing. Hundreds of bottles of wine, and they can speak in detail about pretty much any of them. Need a wine for someone's housewarming party who doesn't drink a lot of wine? Let them play 20 questions with you to drill down to the perfect wine(s) for you. I could have spent quite a bit more time hanging out at the Cottage and picked up cards for several wines that I've had before that I remember. As a self-confessed wine geek, I went into The Wine Guy today and really enjoyed the experience. This is now my favorite place in Indiana to buy the good juice. Although Zionsville is well known as an upscale enclave, what I really like about this store is that the vast majority of the bottles appear to be in the $10-20 range--there is no attempt to gouge, and the prices were reasonable with a lot of sales and markdowns. Another thing I was impressed by was that they have a wider and different selection from a lot of places. They have the typical big California and Oregon selections, but if you are tired of drinking Cabs, Chardonnay and Pinot all the time, they have a strong variety of whites and reds from Europe and elsewhere that you just don't see on the shelves elsewhere and most of it was in the $17-20 range. I don't often go to wine stores thinking I need to go back, but I really saw a lot of bottles that are in my future. The service was good, and two separate people helped me out very cheerfully, and I could tell that they knew their inventory and subject well. As for the rest of the store, I didn't have the time, but there were a full range of Belgian ales and various craft condiments/snacks that looked intriguing. This is definitely a place to find some interesting food and snacks if you are having folks over. read more

I love everything about this place! We stopped in on Shop Small Saturday because they were participating with American Express ($10 off just for SHOPPING? Yes, please!). This place is broken up into several smaller rooms, so it's really fun the first time you go in. There's ANOTHER room full of wine...and ANOTHER one... The first 2.5 rooms have things that pair with wines -- charms, openers, dips, cheeses, etc. There's a really fun selection. If you need a gift for a housewarming, hostess gift, someone you don't know well or your BFF, you will truly find something here. There there's the wine. Again, room after room after room of it! All good quality. I saw several familiar bottles and a ton I have never heard of. I didn't ask for a recommendation from the staff, but I will do that next time. Today my mom and I went to the Wine Guys store since neither of us are wine gurus. I had been here once before and found the owners and staff to be extremely knowledgable and friendly. When we walked in we were greeted by the owner who directed us to an all star employee named Dan. Dan spent 45 min with us discussing the types of wines we wanted and helping us pair our holiday menu with different wines. He was so informative without sounding like a know it all. He even gave us a handy sheet to write down what we thought of each wine so the next time we return we can hone in on the perfect wines for our tastes. If you're looking for a step up from three buck chuck, but don't want to break the bank this is the best place to buy wine. Although you can't taste the wine there, it's hard to go wrong considering the excellent descriptions provided by each bottle of wine and the fantastic advice that the folks there provide. I highly recommend buying a case of wine to take advantage of the case discount, and buy at least one or two bottles that are pricier than the rest. Hide the receipt, and try to guess the price of each bottle after you have finished it. Through this process we've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of some of the more affordable wine, and enlightened to the reasons why other wines command a premium price. read more

This store is WONDERFUL. Doug and his staff are not only knowledgable about wine but take the time to educate you as well. Doug spends his time with smaller wine producers collecting wines that are most often rated 90 and above and are VERY reasonably priced. One of my favorite Cab's that Doug introduced me to was a $13.00 bottle. NOW at that price I brought home a case! A MUST visit if you are passing through Zionsville or live in the area. Amy W. One of my favorite, if not favorite places to buy wine. They have an excellent selection of wines both popular and hard-to-find. I believe they do not sell anything with a rating under 85 (WS?), so you really can't go wrong. I have found their prices to be great, and I can honestly say that they have never steered me wrong with a recommendation. Their customer service is great and they will hold a bottle or a case for you if you call. One thing is a must and that is the email list. Sign up and you will get excellent wine reviews and notices of what's new, recipes, an occasional restaurant review and even a travel log once in a while. read more

A bit of a drive from my east side dwelling, but well worth the visit. The customer service was awesome from the greeting when I walked in, until I stepped out the door with my bag in hand. Gotta love the knowledge each person working here has to offer. The selections are well organized and easy to price. They carry mostly reasonably priced wines along with some high end bottles but nothing off the wall expensive. Nice little area in the back to select wine paraphernalia and gifts for wine lovers. This establishment does a fantastic job on everything they do. Starting with the emails they send you. They are fantastic you read the descriptions of the many different wines, you respond to the email with the number of bottles you want to pick up and they have it ready for you when you visit their store. So simple walk in the door pay for your bottles and they carry it to the door for you. Their stores always clean very well organized. Love the information cards they post with most every wine they carry. My one and only complaint is no one is ever friendly. They almost act like you are bothering them when you are there. It is confusing for me for a store that does everything right to not have friendly people working there. I had a friend with me last week when I picked up wine that had never been there before. When we got to the car he said, "wow no warm and fuzzies in that place" I want to love this place more, they do Most everything great! read more
