Big Wheel is a must have when we visit Victoria. It's a quick drive from our time share, so we order by phone and pick it up. Always fresh, filling, and delicious. The burger was amazing - could not believe the first bite - totally awesome, perfect balance - will certainly be back for another one of those - wish there was one close to VGH. I've had big wheel 2-3 times before and the meals were great but today it sucked. Cajun fries were way over spiced, burger was dry and over cooked, hot dog was dry and forgot to get us our hot dog and wouldn't provide them after we came back. A 0 today but good other times. read more

I had an unexpected, and *eventually* quite pleasant experience at the cook street big wheel tonight. I called in an order and went down with two gift cards, believing them to have a significant balance. It turns out the cards were only worth $10 each, and did not cover my food and drink bill. Now, it's New Year's Day - I went down in my pjs, without anything but my bicycle and house keys. The manager told me that I could call in with my visa when I got home to pay for the rest. The manager refused to give me the beers that I ordered, but gave me my food and said he "really hoped" I would call back and pay what I owed. I left with my food, feeling very uncomfortable with the interaction. I called back 20 minutes later after arriving home and spoke to the same person I had at the restaurant. I told him how he had made me feel, and he said I gave him a weird vibe too. He took my card number and tried to process, but was having technical difficulties on his end. After a few moments he apologized for the earlier interaction and told me that he would like to take care of my bill. I was ready to pay; he called it a New Years gift. The food is great - their quality is consistently high. I honestly wasn't hungry anymore after all this, but I've got leftovers for days. What struck me tonight was the customer service. His kindness when I expressed how our interaction had left me feeling, was a really neat thing to receive and I will surely pass on the gesture as soon as I can. 4 stars for a filling burger and poutine that was my go to for a year. I used to live in Cook St. Village, and if I was ever craving a burger and fries, Big Wheel was my main spot. They have a few different burger options on the menu, a vegetarian patty, hot dogs, and milkshakes. Their burgers were always some of my fave because of their soft melt-in-your-mouth buns. The poutine for $8 was a huge steal because the portions were large. No complaints here! The place is set up fast food style - order at the counters and pick up when ready. You can dine in the restaurant or take it to go. If it's a nice day, I recommend taking it go and eating it picnic style down by Dallas Road to soak in the views. They've opened up a new location as well, but I have yet to check that one out. I need to pay Big Wheel another visit soon and get my BWB poutine fix! read more

This is my favorite burger place in Victoria, Canada! I'm not a local because I live all the way down in California in the states. I went to go check it out after taking a look around Cook St Village. The burgers were great and the fries were excellent. I have to say that this place surpasses In-N-Out Burger based in California. The burgers are better and the staff is very friendly. I went back the next day after I tried Big Wheel Burger and it was as great as it was the first time. I'll be coming back again someday soon. Subpar, overpriced grease. The absolutely worse value in the city for a burger. If you want a bacon cheeseburger with a side salad it will run you $16.00. And this is a quick, diner-style joint serving quick, class fast food-style burger, not 'gourmet' like Pink Bicycle, Bin 4, or Chuck's. The burger is served to you in a grease-soaked brown paper bag, even if you're eating in. The burger itself is pretty plain. It's thin (adding to the poor value), pretty tasteless, and the sauce is overall forgettable. Take your money and go down the road to Pink Bicycle or Bin 4 after 9pm. The burgers are many times tastier and a MUCH better value. I like the concept of local, fresh ingredients etc, but the end product is just really disappointing. I'd avoid. read more

They reimbursed for the meal and we tried again in good faith. Second event, burnt again, this time despite many attempts to contact the store we received no recompense for the poor quality. I was on my way to the ferry and looking for some food, and had heard good things about Big Wheel in Victoria, and was happy to see a new location in Nanaimo, so I decided to stop in. I was running tight on time, so I called in an order (cheeseburger, Cajun fries, and a root beer). I let them know I'd be there in 30mins and they said it would be ready when I arrived. In the time of COVID, things look very different at restaurants. When I arrived, there was 6-7 people waiting for their food, which is already a good sign. I walked up to the kiosk setup in the door, told them my name, and my order was just getting packaged up. The girl who helped me pay (I'm sorry, I didn't catch her name) was very friendly. I was greeted by Brian, the manager/owner, who handed me my food. It was great to see someone higher up who cares about their business/customers. We had a quick chat about the new location, and I was off to catch the ferry. The food was great. Cheeseburger was cooked perfectly, super juicy, lots of fresh toppings, and tasted homemade. Basically, exactly what you want in a burger. The Cajun fries were a nice change, and a tad bit spicy for me. I'll get them again since they were very good, just ask for a bit less seasoning. This place serves delicious, quality burgers, no doubt about it. But I would still have to say that it is a little over priced for what you're getting. I was hoping to try their special mac-n-cheese burger of the day, but after finding out that it was sold out, opted to go for the standard double cheeseburger. It is more than filling, and the ingredients are very fresh. Juicy burger on a nice soft, semi-sweet bun are the key ingredients to this tasty delight. This place started out great. They have several locations around town but I normally go to the Uptown and Cook Street locations. I have slowly seen the decline of customer service at these two spots. The Cook St. location is probably the worst. 6 different times they forgot my fries. Yes, 6. Once they forgot cheese on my cheeseburgers and when I told them, they literally handed me two cold pieces of cheese. Another time they was a massive hair cooked into my burger patty. And then at the Uptown location I placed my order on the phone which I was told would take 10-15 mins. I pulled up ten minutes later and paid. The gal up front said she would check my order. 20+ mins passed by and I saw people that came after me keep getting their orders. I finally went up to the cooks and asked for my order by my name. They looked around clueless until one of them walked out to the front fridge and pulled my order out. It had been sitting there the entire time. I will say that the Uptown one is usually pretty good but after all the fails I just won't order from Big Wheel again. On top of it, they add an automatic gratuity which I don't feel is justified. Enjoyed many burgers at Big Wheel since they opened in Victoria. Today I went there for cheeseburger, fries and shake and I was sadly disappointed. It appears as though the burger is smaller than I remembered which was confirmed by a fellow diner. Won't go back. 17.00 for a chicken burger and fries. Fries...COLD. Chicken paltry size. Onions come with burger but charged 50 cents to fry them? This is my go to burger place when I'm craving a simple sloppy diner style burger. Not sure why people compare it to the gourmet burger joints in town as it is not one. I'm not saying the burgers are not good, they are delicious. The thing that kills me is the price. For what you get it's really expensive especially the fries and small sized fountain pop. I had the "Juicy Lucy Burger", which, ironically, had a patty that was anything but juicy. The novel part was that it was stuffed with cheese curds, but as enticing as that sounds, it didn't make much of an impact for me when the patty was this dry. The tomato, pickle and their house "Big Wheel Sauce" were quite nice, being the only ingredients preventing this burger from getting any drier. The fries weren't bad, though. The cookies & cream shake, however... While it was tasty, it was way too thick, making it kind of hard to suck up with such a thin straw, a problem further compounded by the chunks of cookie and chocolate getting stuck in it. Annoying as this is an easily avoidable problem. As a side note, everything provided was compostable. Very cool. Overall though, while hardly a terrible dining experience, this was a disappointment, especially given how highly recommended this place was. I have had burgers in many different countries and all over my own. No one has ever come up with a better burger then Big wheel. The location is great, right on Cook street and only a short walk from down town Victoria. its a small little place but there is plenty of seating. The menu is are printed beautifully on chalk boards and they are always adding new and exciting burgers. The burger itself is to die for. if you are the kind of person who likes fancy burgers with crazy add ons then this might not be the place for you, they have a few wild and crazy feature burgers now and again but the real deal is the plain Cheeseburger. the sauce and meat and cheese and bun!!!!! SO GOOD. they also have amazing sides and offer beer and wine if you so choose. So please give this place a shot, I live in Edmonton and make sure I eat here as much as I can when I visit. I feel sorry for my future husband as this is what I will be craving when I'm pregnant! read more

Great burgers made from great ingredients served fast food style. Fries are great, you can have a beer or whine with you burger and they have Nathan's hotdogs as well. Problem is, I like the burgers so much I haven't taken the time to enjoy the Chili Dog yet but soon! Now these burgers aren't priced like McDonalds so don't start thinking you are walking out with a cheap meal, you'll pay the price and you'll get great food that will keep you coming back! I eat burgers about 4 times a week and I consider it my favourite food and I'll put Big Wheel Burgers in my Top 10 list of burger joints. BTW guys, great job with the burger buns. Burger buns aren't supposed to be giant buns that you have to chew through to get to the burger, your buns are perfect, they squish down to almost nothing and allow you to taste the burger. It has been several Earth-days since my last report on the Human infestation on the planet, and I've made little progress in repairing my ship. It will take time, and research on the technologies available to you humans in order to get my ship functional enough to even send a message to the High Council. In the meantime, I have since engaged a human thrall to do my bidding and help me gather intelligence on your species. He has proven himself invaluable in navigating the human world properly, and as an added bonus has suggested several new nutrient-rich eateries. And so, by his suggestion, and after becoming sick of the sad state of his personal food storage unit, I had again ventured out into the city to gather more intelligence. My stomachs had grown empty and were in need of another refueling. And so, today I found myself at the food-distribution center known as Big Wheel Burger. My first thought upon entering the structure was its unassuming nature. It had been largely modeled to resemble one of the more common 'fast' food-distribution centers I've seen through the city, but I could tell there was a difference. I entered the queue, unsure of what food I would treat my stomachs to. The yellow-haired female service drone at the front seemed eager to sate my hunger, which was now ravenous enough that I could have swallowed her whole, but I had since grown to understand that such behavior was frowned upon here. The service drone seemed to sense my concerns, and addressed them by suggesting one of two 'specials.' It was the second that caught my eye. A culinary invention called the 'Bacon Double Cheeseburger,' with a side-order of 'Fries.' Although more expensive by a factor of two when compared to similar foodstuffs offered by alternate food centers, I compensated the service drone and was informed to take a seat and await the delivery of my food. During this time, I engaged my mind in reading a large board the purveyors of the establishment had thought to put up. The board proclaimed that the food distribution center in question was green. Lies! It was not green! It was largely white inside! The blatant untruth set aside, it went on to explain that all foods distributed from within the center were gathered from local sources. It went on to extoll the virtues of their waste management procedures, energy saving methods and water conservation techniques. I had to stifle my laughter. Waste management? On Reticula IV, we merely discarded our waste in what you humans refer to as a parallel reality, along with the drones that had outlived their usefulness. Energy conservation? You have a Class-Two yellow sun! More than enough energy to support seven-hundred planets the size of Earth. Unfortunately, you are too stupid to utilize it. And water conservation? Laughable! I can create water very simply, even with a broken replicator. Still. I must commend the efforts of the human masters of this particular distribution center to preserve their environment. When the invasion force arrives, it's nice to know that they'll be arriving on a lush planet full of clean air. After the humans have been subjugated, of course. Finally, a male service drone called out my name and brought me my meal. The 'Bacon Double Cheeseburger' came wrapped in paper. Silly humans. The nutritional content of paper is negligible, and doesn't taste very good at all. So, risking exposure, I removed the paper surrounding the burger, making sure no human with wayward eyes might notice me. Beneath was two discs of pure meat, coupled with the leaves of a green plant of some kind, slices of red fruit, smothered in a strange unidentifiable sauce, a layer of cultured milk, two strips of fried porcine by-product... and a pickle encased in two pieces of bread. I opened my mouth and guided the naked burger toward it. I chewed carefully, ensuring I allowed the taste to assault my senses in the appropriate manner. It was good, although the breaded buffer between the meat and my fingers was a little too soft for my liking. The sauce, while edible, seemed bland. Unimpressive. But the flavor within the meat was heavenly. I nearly ate the burger whole, resulting in an ensuing mess. In all my meals on Earth, however, I had never found such a small amount so filling. While I had eaten the burger happily, I found the strips of root boiled in oil, 'Fries,' was much more intimidating to my three stomachs than I was willing to admit. I ate several before I could no longer engage in their consumption. This was not a bad thing. The burger itself was very filling, and it sated the empty void within my stomachs. I could not continue. I found the attitude of the service drones to be exactly what I would expect from any service drone on Reticula IV, regardless of their strange, primitive sense of individuality. The food was greatly filling, and despite the blandness of the special sauce, I am glad I chose not to eat the yellow-haired service drone. read more

I would love to rave about Big Wheel but for the same price you will find a far better meal at the Pink Bicycle downtown. With that said they're a much better Victoria option than the franchise burger joints. Please consider offering a higher quality bun and make your own chips to go with your awesome beef, and you will be the most popular burger joint this side of IN & OUT Burger.
