Why not 5? Burger bread hard/stale like. BUT poutine, which is what ppl probably go there for was definitely 5/5 very good. Hotdog not bad

Hands down, the best fries in Victoria! They're just as good, if not better, than in La belle province, where I live. They make a mean poutine (see pic) and the steamed hotdogs are addictive. It's pretty much a take out place and you don't go for the ambiance although the atmosphere is actually pretty authentic of your typical pataterie.

Next bike trip involves a stop at La Belle!

This poutine has got game! The staff are great, the location is excellent (grab a bite at the local park), and, as I said in the opening line... this poutine is as close to the real thang as you'll get around here - just awesome! You could call it, gamechanging, even!

This place was freakin BOOM. We arrived about 30 mins to closing time, and the place was packed. We ordered 2 medium sizes, and it was really generous portion sizes. Really delicious and worth the wait!

These photos are true to the experience. The smoked meat sandwich was excellent!

Friendly as all get out! Walk in the door and the staff were ready to help. Being here for the first time they helped me decide what would be best with my large group. They even filled our water bottles for us. The steamies were just right for my little ones and the price was right. The slaw on them is made in house and is perfectly sweet. The smoked meat was delicious, pickle included. We went with the Rob Special which was poutine with chicken and mushrooms. Little unorthodox but it was solid although a little light on gravy. You need to adjust your eating pattern to make sure you have gravy through the entire large. The few letdowns were minor. First off they were out of Spruce Beer. Popular I guess. Second the space of fairly small so large groups at a little hard to seat. Finally, they are the epitome of the greasy spoon. The interior is well worn. Where they cook and where you eat is clean but the rest, well... Still absolutely worth a visit.

We are French-Canadians who visit every year from Southern California. No trip is complete without our Tuesday special visit to Matty and La Belle Patate. If you've ever been to Top Dog in Berkeley you will get the same vibe, only Quebequois-style. I have had streamies, poutine, and Spruce Beer (it's a soda that tastes like drinking a Christmas tree). It's always the same and we love it. It's a short drive from Victoria on Esquimalt road. It's authentic as it gets and family run too. If you've never had poutine, it's very filling. I recommend plain curds and gravy in medium size. Xo

The big smoke meat Poutine! I've eaten dozens and can taste it just by looking at the photo.

This is the only place to go for Poutine in Western Canada. Awesome poutine made by with fresh cut fries, super squeaking curds and brown sauce. You'll see the same guy and his crew there almost always. I always have the Poutine with Smoke Meat and a Spruce Beer along with one or two All-Dressed Steamies. Go with a real appetite and stuff yourself crazy. The burgers are supposed to be incredible too but I cannot say no to the Poutine and Steamies in order to make room. I have been going there for years and the owner remembers me every time whether it has been months or days since I've seen him last. He asked about all of the guys I work with too as we would regularly drive across town for a special lunch. If you haven't eaten here - Go! Go NOW! La Belle Patate Rocks!

Most authentic poutine and steamies this side of the Rocky Mountains. You will not be disappointed. Take it from a former Montréalais.

You're not coming here for an authentic food experience (coming from Hawaii, I can certainly attest to that), but they do offer some of the dishes that speak to the spirit of Hawaiian fare and so "mahalo" to Kahuna for honouring the Hawaiian culture and ways in Victoria - thousands of miles away from its inspiration! === 2. FOOD The dishes may not necessarily cater to those from Hawaii (things have been adapted for the mainland - like all other ethnic foods brought to North America) but the creative dish names do provide some reminders of home. Of note, they have a few standard desserts including a lillikoi cheesecake and a haupia pie that they make in-house. Today, I tried the Loco Moco and it's perhaps a healthier (?) but very different interpretation of a typical loco moco one gets in Hawaii. Perhaps it's a local adaptation of the dish (for Hawaiians: note that there is a lot more vegetables on this, much less gravy and portion size, and different macaroni used and no brown/fried rice available) - but overall the dish is tasty. === 3. SERVICE Soft-spoken, well-mannered, it's like the Canadian version of Hawaiian service: caring but without any of the fun sarcasm and localisms one finds in a local Hawaiian joint. I noticed they were attentive to dine-in patrons and everyone wears a brighter-coloured shirt that speaks to the aloha shirts found in Hawaii. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Good, bright, modern, and clean, the Hawaiian motifs are visible throughout be it in colour palette, light fixtures, decorations, and even the t-shirts on sale. While it's not ginormous, you could bring a sizeable party of perhaps up to 12 here. Groups of 4 or less would be best served on a daily basis. Those with wheelchairs and baby strollers would find get in and out easily. Parking appears to just be up to your luck with a street spot or in one of the private paid lots nearby.

For more info on the city of Victoria & fun things to do while on Vancouver Island, see my pix & reviews from the summer of 2022. Located on Fort St, there's several shops, restaurants & bakeries on this street. BC knows how to do Smash Burgers right! Taste, presentation, flavour ALL on point! One of the bestest burgers ever indeed. While we don't have In-N-Out Burger up here in Canada - this is probably the next best thing. The thin cut fries are excellent. Get an order of regular fries. OMG the Chocolate Shake here is absolutely sensational! It looks small & unassuming, but don't be fooled - it's the real deal when it comes to quality shakes! Be sure to tell the cashier you want your shake after you finish your burger. I do not recommend you get it to go - have it right away once you've finished your meal. Also if you are one to carry around your own metal or plastic straw, bring it here! This shake should not be associated with paper straws = sadness! I usually get a single burger, but if you really love that beef & prefer a double patty, then go for it. The beef is right here at BC!
