We stopped here for dinner before a concert in Portsmouth. We were greeted and seated right away. Our waiter did an excellent job. The atmosphere is like a family friendly sports bar/restaurant. The food was great. We had wings, mahi bites, and a wedge salad. I would recommend all three items. I have been here a few times and the food never disappoints. Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend. It is attached to the mall which could be great if you with someone that wants to shop. You can sit at Woodys and relax while they shop. Win Win. The place is a good size and the employees are so friendly. They have HH and do nightly events such as Music Bingo on Tuesday and Trivia on Thursday. They even have a stage for bands. We were there for a quick stop and got some pretzel sticks were good. You can't go wrong. We did get some boneless wings and they were delicious. First time trying. Great atmosphere. And loved the high tables. Quesadillas wee cooked to perfection, Shrimp was grilled perfectly and not overcooked. Very cheesy and came with a side of sour cream and salsa. My husband said the Mushroom Swiss Burger was cooked and seasoned well. He enjoyed it. I've only been twice so far, but I plan to go more! I went on a Friday night and sat outside at the patio. Their patio is super spacious (any cigar smokers? It's cigar friendly on their patio!), which was really nice! Their drinks are good, and their food is good. I got the BLT, and on Friday night, it was divine! Chris was our server, and he has a serious gift of being an attentive server, while also talking to literally everyone out there, while also making sure you're good- all the while, he's quick to bring everything out. That was so impressive. We went back on Sunday night, and we had Christian, who was nice, but we didn't see him very often, or had other random servers (which was fine, but they just weren't super attentive to us- maybe they were busier than usual). I got a BLT both nights, and it was better on Friday night (probably super fresh). I really enjoy my time here, and I will be back soon! read more

Met a friend met here for a quick dinner one evening. The place was spacious and clean. It was empty, but from what I hear it depends on the night you go. We went on a Monday night which was football night. They offered 5 boneless wings for $6, $1 oysters, and they also had drink specials. Our waitress was sweet but the food was meh. I frequent Big Woody's often but today was the day that made me appreciate WHY I come so often. I sat at the bar and was quickly greeted by my server, Colin. He was the only server working and you would have never known it! He was friendly and welcoming. I told him my order from the meal down to the amount limes for my drink and he didn't miss a thing! Food and drinks were really good. We got an appetizer of the ahi tuna and I had the Mahi tacos and my husband had the cheeseburger. Tons of options on the bar menu and very diverse in what they offer. The waitress did keep disappearing for about 15-20 minutes at a time so we had to keep going up to the bar, from our table, and order our own drinks, but other than that it was a good experience with a nice, chill environment. read more

Ok,this establishment has an inviting atmosphere when you walk in that good looking bar/restaurant. I'm only giving two stars because the menu is very limited in the food section,you would think it would have a wider selection that fact that it's connected to a local mall,but I was disappointed. Before quarantine I went to Big Woodys just about every other Monday for awhile for the 0.59 shrimp & $2 beers. Their fried shrimp are AMAZING!!! Since covid they don't do the deal anymore... I can't wait until they start it back up. Today I tried something new, the fish sandwich. The fish was fried to perfection! Very good, but the lettuce & onions were not fresh! The lettuce was kind of brown & soggy looking, the onions didn't have a crunch to them. It wasn't bad I'd give it a 5/10. I think from now I'ma stick to what I know which are their amazing friend shrimp. I also tried the Rang Tang Wrap! Try it won't be disappointed. I stopped in recently to Big Woodie's at Chesapeake Square Mall with my wife and found the place to be cool with decor and great waitresses and the food smelled great. I liked the outdoor part with Corn Hole games and big screen TV and smoking section. I am looking forward to try the food soon. (I had just eaten dinner elswhere on last visit). This place I have mixed feelings over. And I think it's because it seems to lack anything that makes it stand out. It has a beach theme to it but doesn't stick out past anything other than your typical bar. Even the signage in the front of the building blends in with the mall decor causing you to miss it if you blink too hard. Nonetheless, sometimes having a general bar close by has its benefits. First off, I haven't been to any of them, but after taking to some of the regulars here, this place hosts a lot of local bands during certain days of the week. That makes it nice if you're looking for something unique and just random. Why do I go here? Well on Monday's they have fifty cent wings. If you go even earlier, you can catch the happy hour. It's a cheap deal that "sometimes" pays off. I say sometimes because of the times I've gone here, the quality of the cooking and food has been drastically different. So different that I went from traditional wings to boneless so it's less effort on their part and more likely to be consistent to what I'm expecting. So when you order be ready to be at the mercy of whoever the chef is that day. With regards to the service, it's meh. One time we sat down at the bar and waited twenty minutes before we were even recognized. Unfortunately that performance has been closely repeated once or twice before. Overall I can't give this place anything other than "it's a bar that's close" and "it's just one of those places that just exists". Such a shame because we'd love to have a real awesome place close by to frequent for something other than cheap deals. Came in today to watch the Football game with my wife and 3 kids. Place was very slow. Asked to sit at a table to see the browns game. Was told browns game was only showing in the back.... I said "sure that's fine". Was then told the only table available was a high top with 4 chairs. I then asked if we could sit in the front and change the channel on one of the 15 TV's that only 10 people were watching. Answer: No sorry we can't do that. So I say "so you're telling me you don't have a table for me??? Answer (from tallish hostess with glasses): no sorry we don't (IN A MOSTLY EMPTY ESTABLISHMENT). I've watched the game here before and always spend $100+. Very disappointed. I used to go here all the time for karaoke and it was great, but lately it has kinda su ked. Twice I've gone recently, and the service has been lackluster at best; waiting awhile for service, forgetting drinks, etc. Plus, the management of the bar won't let anyone say cuss words on the mic, even if it's in the song or sing anything they deem "inappropriate". I mean, it's a 21 and up establishment. It's ridiculous. I don't have patience for karaoke nazis. I'll find someplace else to go and I probably will not be back for the forseeable future. read more

Visited this bar for the first time last night. Had a really friendly waiter, forgot his name, but he was knowledgeable and made our experience great. They practiced Social Distancing and enforced wearing masks while walking around. They didnt have a drink menu which was probably the only downfall but our waiter suggested the Liquid Marijuana which was delicious.
