This grocery chain is a little on the pricier side compared to its competition. However, it's clean, well stocked, and has a great prepared foods section. On the weekends, it gets busy. The produce was fresh; had the clementines and they were the sweetest. The meats counter had a unique selection to choose from. We had the Chinese sausages and they were delicious. I walked by the sushi section and the chef was rolling up fresh rolls right before lunch time. If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend their dollar chocolate pies, SO GOOD! Checkout: they have quite a few self checkouts available and an associate ready to assist. Bring your own bags or pay 10 cents per paper bag. This Big Y has THE kindest, most welcoming employees of all time. They have been so good to my family over the years and not to sound cheesy, but they really treat you like family. The last time I was there, for instance, I was on my way out and my bag broke, and the woman working was SO extremely nice and understanding...I was practically on the verge of tears (the cherry on top of a not-so-great day) and she turned it around with her kindness. They also have great customer service in general - there have been times where something has rang up incorrectly for me or my mom and they are so quick and understanding about correcting it. Their prices (especially for produce) are a little higher than they should be, but their selection is good and they have really great sales on occasion. They have an unusually good hot foods section - their sushi is unusually tasty for grocery store sushi (I won't buy sushi from literally any other grocery store) and their pizza is delicious. They make subs to order that are absolutely massive for $8 and delicious. No use in going to Subway when these are better and cheaper. If I have one complaint, it's that I wish they had a by-pound olive bar like Whole Foods does. I don't snack on olives but I use them in martinis, and when I go I like to buy a very small quantity (maybe 10 olives or so) and I can't do so because they're pre-packaged. At first it was due to Covid, but they've reopened their hot wing bar so I'm not sure why they haven't reopened the olive section too. Overall, my favorite grocery store in town by far. read more

This a the perfect store if you are in to your very own store sponsored shadow. Not only will they not speak to you, but they will stand over your shoulder, and watch as you ring every item out in the self check out. While the front end supervisor stands at his letecturn enjoying his voyeuristic fantasies of Domination. Please keep in mind that I did have a sweatshirt on and dirty work boots as it is fall. Good solid supermarket. They always seem to have what's on our shopping list. Never any problems in the selection department. Solid bakery, deli counter, excellent produce, lots of made to order take-out stuff like sandwiches and pizza. Always have bargains to be found, whether its mark downs or bogos. Up front staff is pretty good. Good price on frozen shrimp by the bag, even better when its 2 bags for the price of one. Got a really nice price on a whole chicken, marked down a few bucks with an impending sell-by date. Its beer-can chicken tonight, baby ! Went here and 5 employees had their masks under their nose. Including one handling food in butcher dept. and one in the seafood dept (with her nose like a foot away from someone's shrimp). We thought the butcher kid was just young and didn't know, so we told him. He acted surprised, covered it--the we walked by again and he was purposely putting it down. One employee took off his mask to give me directions, like he couldn't speak with a mask. I asked the check out person to please connect with a manager on it. I love my Big Y it's my go to grocery store for all of my grocery needs. The bakery is my go-to for all birthday cakes they are all amazing I even use the deli for fresh made meat and cheese platters and antipasto just ask the deli for a menu and you can order there. The sushi section also has someone making fresh sushi at the sushi bar we get it all of the time it is nice and fresh. One of my absolute favorite things about Big Y is the grinders ,you order them and they make them right in front of you and for 8.99 for a massive 12ft grinder with all the toppings is a great deal for $1 extra you can grab a bag of chips and soda and make it the meal deal. They also have party grinders that I have ordered before and they were a hit!!! They also have a great verity at the seafood section and the butcher is great I also get filets and ask them to butterfly them for me and they always do you can also order all different types of meats from the butcher! The staff is always so friendly and helpful especially the women in the self check out she is always so helpful . The hot food section is also always fresh and great to grab on the go !! Lets not forget about the tasty great priced pizzas!!! They also have everything you need for your household needs usually I find great deals on cat food and cat litter !! I love deals and when there is the buy one get one, or even two sale, you will see me shop. Place is very clean, i like the fish market as prices are typically better than other stores. Muffins are better than the competitors as well. FRAN IS THE BEST EMPLOYEE EVER, and the main reason why I enjoy shopping here. I love this Big Y. It's clean and pleasant, also recently renovated. They have an amazing bakery that's made all of our birthday/holiday cakes over the past decade or more. The staff is friendly and helpful - never had a bad experience. We love getting their 30 inch subs when we have a get together. I also love their generosity. I have organized several charity events that they have donated to. So thank you, Big Y! Why not 5 stars? They are a bit on the pricey side. I find I do most of my day to day shopping up the road at a store that is equal in every other way except their bakery - Big Y is superior. Their buy one get 2 free is a great deal though! read more

Big Y is an interesting store, with lots of local selections. The store is clean, organized and the staff is helpful. Produce is good, as fresh as can be expected for a large grocery store, and so seems the meats, dairy and frozen food selection. Their routine flyers had some crazy sales going on and I thought to venture in. Every week, Big Y has one or two items that seem like a steal; everything else is of course on routine prices ( which I feel are a little higher than other neighboring stores). That is my only reason for giving it lower stars; prices add up over the long run. I had the store pizza recently. The vegetarian option ( cheese pizza with veggie toppings) was decent, and I wouldn't mind eating it again. Parking is plenty, and really, just a convenient option if you live in the area. read more

This is a good store. The prices are better than some competitors and the sale deals are great. They've expanded their selections of specialty foods and allergy-friendly alternatives. Lots of options at the hot bar and surprisingly good fresh pizza! The freshness of the produce sometimes suffers though and I have been unimpressed with the quality of their red meats. Today I received excellent customer service from Mike, the assistant manager who told me that I did not have to go home to get my Big Y coupon for seven dollars off of my turkey. He stated that the customer service desk could help me. I then met Kathy who was extremely patient in helping me and other customers to load the app and digital coupons onto our phones. Finally, I have to give a nice shout out to Bella who was training someone at the cash register. Bella was very patient and kind with her trainee as well as being helpful and pleasant with the customers ( who were becoming impatient with the trainee). When asked to speak to a manager I was just as disappointed when she refused to help the situation. Never really shop here, but we were in the area. Wanted to get some fish for dinner and was pleased to see they get seafood deliveries 6 days/week. So I purchased some cod (at 13+/lb). Totally disgusting, very fishy, we threw it away. Maybe they get fish delivered 6 days, but the cod was clearly days older. Will not be back. Too bad as the cashier and the manager who happened to be nearby as we checked out were very friendly. read more

What's Social Distancing? This is a great store because they have wide aisles and good sales. However, the employees need to respect customer's social distancing wishes. Twice during this pandemic I tried to help the baggers and myself by asking to bag myself due to my immune suppressed system. However they continued to get in my space like one foot away even though I step back and tell them to stay away! I try to limit my time in the store by organizing the items, along with letting the checker know what I need to accomplish, but I'm looked at as if I've said something wrong. It's sad that I will not be going to this store anymore due to this! Be aware of their lack of training or just disregard of Covid 19 prevention per the governor's orders. read more

The Community Bag program at this store is a fiasco. The store director, Sean Norris, failed in his commitment to The Avon Arts Association Scholarship Fund which was to receive a $1.00 donation for every reusable bag sold during the month of July. We had publicized this so-called "partnership" extensively. My wife went to this store on July 14 with her shopping list. She intended to purchase at least four shopping bags. She was surprised to find a sign listing a different group as the designated , default, organization. She was also disappointed to learn that clerks had no knowledge of the program or it's process. I called the store manager, Paul___, who disavowed any knowledge of this preemption. He suggested I call the store director who would not be available for the next three days. read more

Decided to try the grinder deals from the deli. I tried the foot long Italian on wheat bread. The women working there was very nice, prepared the sandwich to order. The foot long grinders come with a free Nirvana water bottle. Rating the grinder only, I think the bread killed the over all sandwich. It was very dense and no flavor. I would never order this from them again because of the bread quality. I could see the grinder being very good, but no this bread. If I go back Ill try the fresh sushi that looked really good. read more

This Big Y is a great store. Helped me to my car on multiple different occasions when I was trying to juggle my groceries and infant at the time...even came out in the rain!! Best customer service I have had at a grocery store. The food is decent, however I did purchase some bread that I opened the same day and found to be moldy. With a receipt, I had no issues returning. They can be more expensive than other stores, however if you are smart about how you shop and take advantage of the deals, then you can do pretty well. The prepared take out food is pretty good too.
