I thought I had scheduled irrigation assistance for a stuck valve, an annual water heater flush, and since they were already here, I planned to ask about a whole-home plumbing inspection as well. Ben was good--pleasant, professional, and very informative. He was able to loosen our irrigation valves that had become stuck and completed the whole-home plumbing inspection. However, the water heater flush was not performed, which left me a little confused since I believed it was included in the service I had scheduled. Ben explained that we could schedule the water heater flush about six months from now, allowing them to visit twice a year and stay on top of maintenance. While there may have been a misunderstanding regarding the appointment details, Ben himself was good to work with. He was personable, knowledgeable, and offered several helpful suggestions regarding plumbing fixtures and a water softener system. I needed a newly installed toilet in my shop lifted and a snake run about six feet to the cleanout. I was told on the phone that Bighorn Plumbing would charge $96 to "assess" the job the next morning. The plumber arrived, after I explained what I needed he tapped on his tablet for a while, then announced the price: $1,047. When I stopped laughing, I told him there was no way I'd pay that for a 1/2 hour job. He explained it could take four hours if the job wasn't as I described. I asked whether he would pay $1,047 upfront if he were me. After some circling, he said he would. Sure. Bighorn has a nice business model going here: charge $96 to show up, offer a ridiculous estimate, and hope one desperate customer in five says yes. If not, collect $96 for a 15-minute visit. Like throwing pasta against the wall.... see if it sticks. Had a oven instaled or should i say took one fitting off and put 2 on, was on premises less than 30 minutes and charged me 504.00 i paid it because i was in a time crunch but those are lawyer fees. I did know at the time and could of went somewhere else which in hindsight i could of did it myself for less than 50.00. We called Bighorn Plumbing for a residential backflow inspection because they were the first ones listed on the TMWA approved list. The person that answered the phone was very polite and offered to have a rep come out the same day. It was convenient so I booked the appointment and proceeded to inquire about pricing. She wouldn't give any price range over the phone (as happened with another Yelp reviewer). At that point I should have cancelled the appointment and called around to other testers for quotes but I was busy so that's on me. When the rep arrived he told the inspection cost is $428. I was surprised by that price and inquired about what was included and after a few minutes he offered a 10% new customer discount. Even with the discount, I should have declined service at that point but being new to the area I didn't have a price point reference so my fault for not researching more. The rep was also polite and professional. However, after doing some quick research, Bighorn's pricing seems more in line for commercial property inspections as opposed to residential properties. I found the average price in the Reno area for a residential backflow inspection can range anywhere from $75 - $150. So that's well below what we were charged. Again, everyone we dealt with were very professional so perhaps for other services their pricing is more in line with other companies. Unfortunately, I wouldn't call them again for a backflow inspection due to their higher pricing compared to other companies for the same service. read more

Called them to resolve a main sewer line backup in our house. Asked for pricing over the phone and they would not give it to me and I should have taken that as a red flag. They did arrive quickly, however that was the only good part. They provided 3x pricing quotes which were all extremely high in price. I was able to get out cheap with a $98 diagnostic fee. I would not recommend this company as they simply are too expensive! I was able to resolve the problem with a different company for half the price of their lowest quoted price. I want to warn others about my experience with this company. Please be careful before hiring them. I scheduled a water flow test and asked the office to confirm that they were approved to perform this service. They promised to send documentation before the technician arrived, but they never sent anything. The technician still showed up at my home. When I asked for proof of approval, he could not provide it. He did not perform any test, did not inspect anything, and did not take any pictures. He even told me he did not bring his tools. Since no work was done, I did not sign anything. However, they later sent me a $96 invoice and called it a consultation or dispatch fee. No service was provided, yet they still billed me. Based on my experience, I recommend people be very careful before hiring this company. read more

(Nail at baseline of pluming pipe in bathroom) Ended up going with another company who cost 3 times less, fixed in under one hour with a $6 cost charge on the coupler. Bighorn wanted to charge $2200, the other company cost $4**! Bighorn wanted to charge 4 hour labor, for $100 part, which the other company said was only $6. Way unreasonable. Came on here to write an updated after receiving the response from the owner. Unfortunately it looks like Yelp has taken my review down and filtered it as "not recommended". Not sure if this is because Bighorn is spending advertising dollars with them, or they somehow complained about it and got it taken down? Up until my review was demoted, I had more feedback from other yelp users than any other review for Bighorn, and my review was one of the most thorough, and honest experiences. Hopefully yelp reinstates it after this update as it's disturbing that it was taken down. To the owners response, you are literally charging for estimates with your "diagnostics fee". This is far from "upfront pricing". You have numerous complaints of price gouging after the fact with 3-4 x pricing on your services. According to other reviewers (on yelp and other platforms) Your "flat rates" end up charging 300-500 an hour for plumbing services. You can call any other plumber in town and their prices hover in the mid 100's, Which is plenty to give an honest wage to employees and take care of overhead. It makes me wonder if you are paying your plumbers on commission for sales vs a fair wage to work. Your claim to positive reviews on other platforms is a moot point. Many of your reviews are obviously fake/generated to in an attempt to bolster your business up. Most provide no substance and details of your services, just that you were "great" doing whatever services. Your company miraculously has more reviews in the last two years than 95% of local plumbing businesses around town that have been serving the area for decades. Obviously a company can charge whatever they want, but you should be able to provide free estimates on your work prior. When your "diagnostic" charge is literally showing up and not using any sort of diagnostic equipment, you misrepresenting what you are doing. This is a predatory way to bait customers into paying a fee for you to just show up. If they have no experience hiring a plumber before, they may go for it, but if they decline you are still making money for doing no work at all. It's really sad because at the end of the day you are taking advantage of people who may not know better. You don't even have to do any work and you'll make enough money off of estimate fees to stay afloat. I don't know how your run this business and sleep at night with such a lack of integrity. If you provide a good service and honest upfront pricing your business would do fine and you wouldn't need to resort to shady business practices. Do better, you're taking advantage of people and training the next generation of trades people that are working for you that it is okay. read more

When the Bighorn technician arrived at our rental property in early July 2025 to replace two old, leaking spigots, he called me to give me the quote. He quoted $1200, which I assumed to be an estimate. I did not know Bighorn did not quote by the hour, but rather by the job. In all my years hiring plumbers, electricians, etc., I'd never heard of that. So, I figured he planned to do some welding and would likely spend maybe 4 hours or more on the job. The parts, BTW, two spigots, could not have cost more than $200 and were probably more like $100. So I agreed to the quote. One hour and 6 minutes later, he called me back and said the job was complete and he could take my credit card over the phone. I said, wait a minute, it's $1200 and you only worked a few minutes more than an hour? He said, that's the price you agreed to. I told him I would call his office. I've made four calls to their office, each time telling the person who answers the phone that I'm not paying that bill until I speak to the owner (Jesse Itzen) or a high-level manager. Much like the gentleman who filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for a job Bighorn did in mid-June, they have not called me back. Per-job pricing is legalized thievery. How that can justify nearly $1000/hour is beyond me. We own a small business, and if I quoted someone that amount and then the job was completed in such a way that it worked out to $1000/hr, I would definitely come back with a much smaller number. But Bighorn apparently wants to do a money grab now and deal with any consequences later. Tell your friends -- hire ONLY PLUMBERS AND TRADE PROFESSIONALS who charge by the hour. It should be illegal for the trades to charge by the job. And this borders on predatory behavior, in my opinion. At the very least, Bighorn has zero character or integrity. read more

My wife has her own company acting as a project manager when people remodel their house, she works with MANY contractors, plumbers, electricians etc... we are in the construction business in the Bay Area, we give quotes to people all the time, yours is just completely dishonest! I will replace the cartridge next time I go up, and could make a video to show people how simple the job is and does not require any special skills nor tools besides a screwdriver! I did give the company time to respond. Here is what happened to us. SENIORS ON FIXED INCOME BEWARE!!! I was blinded by the 536 reviews giving 4.8 stars on google... Yes the serviceman was very nice, and they arrived within the timeframe they quoted (a 4 hour window shouldn't be too hard to accommodate). The plumber quoted my mother, who is 80 years old and on a fixed income over $700 to replace the garbage disposal. My mother later told me "well that's how much it is I guess." My mother said it took the plumber 30 minutes to replace the garbage disposal, it didn't seem to be a difficult job. I believe it.. at 1:25 my mother texted me, saying the plumber arrived. Bighorns emails and invoices came in at 1:58. If others in the Carson City area can afford that amount, then I would say that the nice, prompt and professional service might be worth it. But for seniors, this is not your place. So, our first thought is...since we have to pay $96 for a service call, and since you got the guy right there, why not have the work done and maybe get that amount ($96) taken off the bill.... no, the invoice was not detailed at all and was for $736.00 flat with a potential savings of $73.60... (what is that? savings from who, from what?) not that the amount came off the bill or that the $96 was shown as being removed from the bill or added to the bill or anything.. just $736.00 for the LABOR for 30 minutes worth of work!. We had the parts.. Unfortunately, now we need to ask family for money to help her cover the next mortgage payment that is due in 2 weeks. I just don't know how a company can justify that. HOW in the heck did you find over 500 people to give you good enough reviews to get the 4.9 on google with prices like that! Now the plumber did say his work was guaranteed... that's great, and he sent pictures of the work he did, that's also great, and then when we got the invoice... the disclaimer on the invoice states that the plumbers guarantee does not cover failure or damage resulting from owner-supplied equipment, parts or materials. Of course we had gone to Home Depot and got the garbage disposal and all the parts needed, hoping family could help us install it, but we just couldn't wait any longer and so we called the plumber.. but if we didn't get the parts then the bill would have been over $1400!!!! So, just to revisit this, Bighorn Plumbing charges over $1400 an hour to do any type of plumbing work. My mother had to cancel a lot of her Christmas plans because of this. It just sickens my heart. He did not complete the work, and then demanded much more money than the original bid. What a scam. In my case, he was there for five hours. Stay FAR away from Bighorn Plumbing. I called them out for what appeared to be a leak. Without properly troubleshooting, they immediately quoted me over $3,000 for a main water line spot repair. The city later determined it wasn't the main line at all, but an irrigation leak. Bighorn came back out, claimed to find the irrigation issue, and quoted another $2,700. At this point, I called a different plumbing company. For $85, they correctly identified and fixed the real problem -- something Bighorn never managed to diagnose after two visits and outrageous quotes. To make matters worse, I was still charged a service fee by Bighorn for doing essentially nothing, and despite multiple calls, the manager never bothered to return my message. This company is predatory and unprofessional. They seem more interested in padding invoices than actually helping customers. I will be disputing the charge and strongly recommend others avoid this business at all costs. There are honest, reliable plumbers out there -- Bighorn is not one of them. read more

Pretty trucks..... that's it. Were called to fix a leaky well line. Took over a week with no water. In that process dug up the electrical for the well pump, taped it back together, and reburied it, so that went out. Had a well pump company come out and replace the pump unit and repair the line they cut, putting it in conduit. They sent someone to dig it up and cracked another pipe for sprinkers digging with a backhoe and now aren't returning calls. It has been one nIghtmare after another but boy, they sure want money up front and to get paid. No one is coming out and checking their work. They come fast but finish slow, appears a lot of untrained labor. I cannot in good faith recommend these guys for anything other than a leaky faucet right now. They are nice people but the work quality is greatly lacking. Hope they can turn this around. read more

Awful company. Obviously there is some fake or incentivized reviews online. I would look hard at the critical reviews of this company to get a better picture of what's going on here, they obviously are paying a marketing site or doing something internally to bolster up their ratings when you search for them. Bighorn was trying to charge a $96.00 fee just to show up to the jobsite. They wouldn't give estimates for hourly rates or services over the phone. Only after charging you for a "diagnostic fee" that isn't related to diagnosing anything. They use this sales tactic to already have you committed to paying them. They "take the fee off" the repair/service bill (which usually is 2-4 times as much as reputable companies) and if the customer isn't very knowledgeable about what the service should cost, they go through with paying them because they already are paying them a fee. Reading through some negative reviews, you can see they are charging sky high prices for basic services. 500 for camera inspections, 600 for a faucet cartridge, 900 to snake drain lines, 5000-9000 to replace a hot water heater!!! Unreal. Try asking them over the phone how much a leaking hot water heater replacement will cost, or how much is it to snake a drain line... They'll claim they need to send out a plumber to "diagnose" it for a $96.00 fee. Look for other locally companies in town that will give you honest pricing and not try to gouge you. It's a shame because they are setting such a bad example for their employee's who eventually may go out on their own one day and think that this is an honest way of doing business. read more
