I previously had a good experience with Hoffman Plumbing, so when I noticed a small leak from the temperature and pressure relief valve on my water heater, I called them out again. This time, something had clearly changed. They charged me $99 just to provide a quote and then tried to turn a simple, clearly diagnosed repair into a massive upsell, with multiple wildly inflated proposals that had little to do with the problem I called about. Before they arrived, I had already done my own troubleshooting and correctly determined that I needed a new T&P valve, a new expansion tank, and a whole‑house pressure‑reducing valve. It was a straightforward, targeted repair. Instead of focusing on that, Hoffman gave me five quotes: Replace all plumbing (supply and drain) plus the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $35,611.00 Replace all supply plumbing plus the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $23,874.00 Replace all supply plumbing but not the water heater: $20,365.00 Replace just the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $4,800.00 Finally, the work I actually called about (and I had to ask specifically for this quote because it was not given)--replacing the pressure regulator, T&P valve, and expansion tank--dismissively labeled the "bandaid option": $2,180.00 That last number was for the exact repair I had already identified myself. I later bought the parts and did that "bandaid option" on my own for about $150 in materials. Seeing a roughly fifteen‑times markup on such a basic, well‑defined repair, after being talked down to, made it crystal clear they were pushing high‑dollar, out‑of‑scope work rather than providing fair, proportional service. The attitude matched the pricing. Instead of respecting that I understood my system and wanted a targeted fix, the plumber treated me as if I were clueless. The underlying message was obvious: don't just repair what's wrong--let us replace as much as possible for tens of thousands of dollars. About a week later, I received a voicemail from Hoffman asking when I wanted to schedule the work. I called back and explained why I would not be moving forward: the extreme quotes, the mismatch between what I requested and what was pushed, and the fact that I had already completed the repair myself. The person on the phone showed no empathy, offered no apology, and simply said she would close out the call. A couple of days after that, I got a text from the same person, clearly forgetting that we had already spoken: "We'd love to earn your business. What's holding you back from moving forward? If it's the price, we offer financing and may have discounts available. Text me back or call anytime. I'm here to help!" After being quoted up to $35,611.00 for work I never asked for and $2,180.00 for a repair I did myself for about $150, receiving a chipper financing pitch was beyond frustrating--it was insulting. It told me they either weren't listening at all or didn't care enough to track a very clear, negative response. In short, my one‑star review is based on: Extremely inflated quotes: $35,611.00, $23,874.00, $20,365.00, $4,800.00, and $2,180.00 for a $150 repair. A condescending attitude toward the appropriate, targeted repair ("bandaid option"). Tone‑deaf, sales‑driven follow‑up that ignored my explicit decision not to proceed. Hoffman Plumbing is NOT Hoffman Plumbing any longer - Hoffman used to be great, but they sold out to a larger corporation out of Las Vegas called "Legacy". DO NOT use this company. We purchased and installed a gas water heater through Hoffman in 2019, which was a great experience. This past Friday, our water heater's pilot light went out and when attempting to get it started up again, would not stay lit. Did a bit of my own trouble shooting via the internet, but was not comfortable taking the next steps necessary to possibly fix it. I called the number here on Yelp and reached this new company which I thought would be fine, with the understanding it was no longer Hoffman. Two techs came out today and right off informed me that I may need a new water heater. Definite red flag as they had not even looked at anything yet. Then, when looking at the wiring and pilot light area, said they needed to call their boss to ask what to do next. I was floored. The company sends two "techs" out to fix the problem that clearly have no repair experience and don't know what they are doing (not their fault, it's the company's fault).They then were looking online for how to trouble shoot the situation. It was at that point I went into the house and called another company (York Plumbing, who are fantastic by the way), and explained what was going on. They told me they would send someone out this afternoon. Finally the two techs from Legacy inform me that we either need to replace the whole gas valve, thermostat unit and burner assembly for $2450 or replace the whole water heater for $3562 and would not be able to complete either until next week. Um, no. Paid them their $99 service fee and off they went. York Plumbing arrived, efficiently and correctly diagnosed the problem and will be back tomorrow to fix/replace the parts needed for around $600 total. SO - there you have it. I am not one to ever write reviews here! But this is unacceptable and after seeing some others report this same experience, thought it important to share and warn others. read more

Technicians were great and helpful but Hoffman's was bought by a large company recently so now all their prices are ridiculous. $675 to snake a drain. Other places will do it for less than half that. They also quoted us $14,000 to replace the drain. Customer service was also a nightmare when we were trying to schedule the visit. Had a guy come out as we had some pluming issues under the house. The man came up and said we needed all new pipes and were quoted a couple thousand. Got a second recommendation and it ended up only being a few hundred. We have had other family members scammed by them. NOT USE THESE GUYS. THEY ARE VINDICTIVE AND DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR PROPERTY Hoffman Plumbing , Carson City is the worst company that I could have called when my water heater decided to leak. I called them and they were quick to respond and a tech arrived, he assessed the situation and went over what water heater options were available, a selection was made and he left to go pick it up. When he came back and began to start he realized that he had brought back the wrong water heater, ugh.. that was the first red flag, but still being early in the day I didn't think much of it. Then he worked all day on the water heater installation, it was all day. It took the tech a total of 12 hours and multiple trips to home depot to complete the job. Finally he was done, at 8:30 in the evening. He goes to turn it on and nothing. The tech could not get the pilot on. He looked at me and said the water heater was possibly defective and that he can return tomorrow to install another one. I was in disbelief. I didn't want to go through another day of this, he somehow got the pilot lit and said I wouldn't need a whole new water heater, but he would be back to install a part. After he left the pilot would not stay lit it was always going out. He did come back a few days later with another tech this time and they replaced the part and said it should fix the problem, we'll guess what it didn't. It only made it worse. Because now the the whole house smelled of gas!!! I had a gas leak!! which was not there before. I called again, by the way the communication is terrible you cannot get a manager to return your call and tech is always late or doesn't show at all. So I am wanting this fixed and I call again. Another tech comes out and says he will replace it with another water heater but in a week. I was irate. I have had 5 different techs come out and not one of them could figure out what the problem was. It was on day 13 of dealing with this madness that I decided to call a different company. The other plumber came in with his partner and within minutes said it was a kink in the vent. The installation was not done correctly. So ​​​by now I am very unhappy with the communication and the techs not being experienced enough to notice such an obvious problem. I had no faith in this company and the faulty equipment that came with it, because the water heater still didn't work. Finally after many attempts to have a manager call us back Chaz called my husband and he was arrogant and dismissive only making excuses for everything we were going through. He never once even applogized. We were done with them and just asked for them to come and remove the faulty water heater as we were going to have another company install one that worked. Two techs arrived and one that I hadn't seen before Tristin looked angry. Didn't say a word to me but told his partner well "lets go rip it out." Wow, he was being litteral they cut the supply lines flush to the wall and removed the shut off valve for the water. They also took the gas line for the water heater removing the gas line that was running to the water heater and put a cap on it. These guys were intentionally going to make sure that I suffered even after the hell of 14 days of no heat and still no functioning water heater. They left here without saying a word. Knowing that I would be left without water and heat that night. Didn't tell me that the water and main line of the gas was off. They just left. The way they handled this situation was vindictive, irresponsible and unprofessional. I gave them many opportunities to resolve the problem and instead something else would go wrong. I will be filing complaints with Nevada Contractors Board and the Better Business Bureau. Do not use this plumber at all cost they are bad business all around. read more

The cost was over $500 for a repair that took less than an hour. I was really surprised at how much it cost. They weren't this expensive in the past. They pretty much did price gouging. Hoffman is the best around! I am so happy to have found them on Yelp many years ago because Joe and his team have come to my rescue on more than one occasion, and I am forever grateful! Most recently I discovered a leak in my wall revealed by tiles coming off the walls. Insurance said I needed a licensed plumber to come and do an inspection, and for me there was only one call to make... HOFFMAN! They were out in no time with cameras and scopes, lifting tiles and looking behind the wall to see exactly what was going on. The report they wrote was incredibly detailed and thorough, exactly what insurance needed to open the claim! I needed to unplug my toilet. Hannah took my information and I scheduled an appointment. While shopping at Home Depot I noticed there was a plunger gun. I decided to purchase the product and I was successful dislodging my toilet problems. After checking for every thirty minutes for a while I was satisfied success. I called Hannah and she was very nice and said no problem and canceled my appointment. If I ever need a plumber I will contact Hoffman because they treated me with understanding and kindness. Clogged kitchen drain pipe. Clogs every 6 months to year. Cheaper than to break up the slab. Nice young man came $100 for service call. Told my wife (I was out of town) he needed to get a snake for another $200. Didn't get the clog and the problem still existed. He said that was the best he could do and to not run too much water and it would slowly drain. That was the problem to begin with. I called Hoffman for someone else to come out. Same young man showed 5 days later and said it would be another $100 to look. Got his boss on the phone and told him I wanted fixed or a refund. Ultimately he agreed to refund the $300. Called another plumber and he spent 20 minutes to solve the problem. Paid $160. We were then out of town for 2 weeks. Came home, no refund. Called Hoffman 3 days in a row and always told someone would call me back. They obviously blew me off. I am a 76 year old totally disabled Vietnam veteran on a fixed income. I used to unclog the pipe myself but I am unable to do so any longer. I am now out $460 for an easy fix. No doubt they were more than happy to essentially steal money from elderly people. BEWARE, Hoffman Plumbing was bought out by Apex West Regional Holdco, LLC out of Vegas. We had a drain valve replaced and after dealing with Hoffman Plumbing expected ethical service. My husband was told the service fee is around $220 now for one hour and as it was so high he wouldn't charge for parts. He was charged $310.26 instead of the verbal quote. As he was used to ethical, honest service he didn't read the Ipad carefully and signed the Invoice. The new management would not speak with either of us but rather had the office help relay messages. They also could not say what the hourly rate is. They would not explain the charge which had only 1 hour listed but just insisted it was correct. Run don't walk. I went to Home Depot to purchase a new water heater, they contract with Legacy/Hoffman Plumbing for installation. After two canceled estimate appointments, the serviceman came out and gave me an estimate for a Bradford White water heater, higher end than what is sold at Home Depot. I agreed to the contract. When the installer came, he was here for NINE HOURS. He left twice for parts, sat in his truck for an hour waiting for help, and ultimately installed a Rheem water heater, NOT what I had ordered. Two days later I received a call from another installer, stating they had to return to bring the job up to code. I was unable to reach him as he no longer worked there, called the office and they never called me back. I called again and finally got another installer to come complete the job. When I complained about the lack of customer service, integrity and honesty, I was told "oh sorry." I expect a partial refund since I had to chase THEM down to get my water heater installed to code. Had a pressure regulator installed under my house that I believe is around $200. My water heater was flushed and refilled even though it was under warranty. My bill was 1600+ dollars. Our hot water tank was making a lot of noise and it was over 14 yrs old. I called around and received estimates from 2 other companies. One company quoted $3500 to $3800. Hoffman quoted $2500 and the 3 rd company quoted $2500. I looked at Hoffman reviews and liked what I read. Well I called them in the morning and they said they could schedule me in the next day. Well the next day they arrived and I was met by the service tech named Roberto. Extremely nice young man. He arrived and looked at our old unit and took measurements then came back about an hour later. He ran into some plumbing issues due to our old house, corrected the issue and installed the new water heater. Roberto was extremely knowledgeable, worked hard and very efficient. They will ask for surveillance footage to prove that their workers did anything wrong.*** $2300 to put in a 40 gal storage water heater. They quoted $1900-$2300 and left me a few gifts in my garage and driveway. The owner was not interested in lowering the price which is above and beyond other alternatives. He simply offered to come and clean up the mess that I already cleaned up. Aside from that panic attack no obvious issues. Update: After noticing that one of my glass chemical bottles was broken during the job and large pieces thrown away leaving behind some smaller pieces of glass I called to complain some more that my bottle was destroyed and no one bothered to tell me. There was a leak in the wall from our water heater pipes into the house and I needed a plumber quick. My normal plumber company I usually call was booked for the week so onto Yelp I went and found Hoffman's Plumbing. They were busy too, but put me on their waitlist and their receptionist said she would call all her service guys to see if they could fit me in their schedule. They were able to fit me in for the next day and "Geo" was assigned to the job. Geo quickly found the leak, replaced the portion of the pipe that was leaking and even gave me some recommendations on how to handle the damage to the walls from the leak. The service was reasonably priced and Geo was very thorough - fixed the leak and made sure to clean up the work area when he was done. With this being such a pleasant experience, I will make sure to call Hoffman's Plumbing again next time I have any plumbing issues. read more

I called Hoffman Plumbing Friday morning regarding replacing a leaking wax ring on a toilet. I previously used Hoffman Plumbing last April 2024 to install a new hot water heater at our home and I was very happy with the service and competitive price. Well today Hoffman Plumbing was able to have a tech show up a few hours after my phone call. The technician was very professional and personable. He informed me that seven months prior Hoffman had been purchased by Legacy Heating and Air, a very large corporation, and the original owner was no longer associated with Hoffman Plumbing. The technician spent a total of 30 minutes actually removing the toilet, replacing the wax ring seal and putting the toilet back in place. This was done during normal working hours on a Friday afternoon. The technician deserves a 5 star review. However being billed $530 for a half hour simple plumbing job deserves a 1 star review in my opinion. Not the same reasonably priced Hoffman Plumbing Company that I have used in the past. Needless to say at the prices they now charge I will never be using them again in the future or recommending them to any of my friends. $530 for a simple toilet wax ring replacement during normal business hours with easy access to the toilet??? read more

The plumber I have been using for the last decade and a half ended his business, and so we were forced to make some decisions. Again, my friends at Yelp came through. Hoffman had dozens of 5 star reviews and, as you can see, I also gave them five stars. Communication was great. The ladies that answer the phone were knowledgeable and if they didn't have the answer, they'd call you back with the correct information. The gentleman that did the work showed up within the window of time I had been provided with, and he was diligent in getting the job done. I think his name was Lane. We were visiting my elderly mother in Minden when we noticed a leak under her kitchen sink. We called a few plumbers in the area but no one was available until the next week due to it being Memorial Day weekend. Hoffman plumbers came out the next day and placed the leaking garbage disposal and repaired some piping.
