As someone who has no interest in the bikes in there just due to their style. I ride BMX and brought a custom BMX bike all in parts there that he built it from the ground up. Has been doing my Maintenace on it which is a few times a year it could be anything to a trueing, chain, bolts to something I just want to ask about. Has always been my go-to guy to a bike he doesn't work on often(just bc many people don't ride BMX). I will continue to go there always the pricing is great on Maintenace and always has my bike back to me that day or the next if he's busy. read more

Great, small, timeless bike shop.

Had an unpleasant experience. I'm all about supporting a local shop but definitely not this shop. Was interested in getting a downhill or enduro bike to trash around at the bike park. Was also gonna pick up a bike for my kid. Walked in and was pretty much greeted with "all our bikes are over $3000K" as if I can't afford it. I have a Specialized Epic and Santa Cruz Nomad both high end bikes well over $10K. I'm not worried about your $3K bikes and your crappy inventory of bikes. I'll be happy to drop my money at Kingston cyclery or revolution bicycles. Both shops that treat their customers right. read more

The Famous Bike Brothers treat you like family in their shop. Dave and Marty became my friends in short order. Not so with the other shops in the area. I'm writing to give my perspective of the Shop, to address some of Caitlyn's comments, and to help newbies understand a few things. ( no disrespect intended C. D.) Yes, the showroom is small. Yet some folks find that to be more cozy and intimate, regardless of the genre. Much like getting together in a small, country general store. Lots of good bike shops have that vibe, some good shops are huge. These guys stock a few popular, quality brands and cover a wide price range. It would be the manufacturer that labels the bikes small, medium, large - not the Bike Brothers. The Giant bike I bought from this store has a frame sized in inches. The Specialized bike I bought from (the shop around the corner) was measured in cm's. They roughly match, and both are considered a "large". Note that different builders may take their measurements from "here to there" from different locations. It's relative within the brand. Regardless, the first step is your stand over height. That Giant was the first real bike I owned. The Brothers asked all the right questions a bike shop should ask, and helped me get the right size frame. Also it was the bike that met my wants, needs and riding style. Contrast that to a shop in a nearby town that tried very hard to talk me into a drop bar cyclocross race bike (old inventory) that was so big I almost crashed it on the test ride! Not good. Those antics cost them the sale of the bike I was actually interested in. True story. Once you have the right frame size, getting a better fit for you in the "cockpit' is a matter of making minor adjustments to the components and/or swapping out parts. That's certainly all a casual or low mileage intermediate rider needs. True, the Specialized BG Fit System is state of the art. If you're an elite cyclist, or aspiring to be one, you might consider it. Dave, Marty, and many other elite cyclists probably never even saw the BG system, and still ride custom fit bikes. So did all cyclists before that System even hit the shops! Not bad mouthin' it. Just sayin'. The Brothers even helped me fine tune the fit of 2 bikes I bought elsewhere. (I'm not brand loyal, no reflection on this shop). No state of the art system needed. There were no hard feelings about those bikes. These fellas are good people. Bike Brothers performed some top notch adjustments and repairs on all my bikes. Their turnaround time was fast. They have an ample supply of quality components, accessories, and apparel for purchase in the store. Prices are competitive. Forget the goofy dollar sign ratings. We customers want value, these guys deliver. They always made time to answer MY newbie questions. I learned much about bikes and cycling from them. Value added. BTW, don't be in awe of a shop JUST because of the large inventory. For you, the new to this bike buying thing, it's mostly eye candy/"bike porn". Nothing I've written here is to discredit other fine shops. There's a few in your area. A good shop will help you stay focused. There's really only 2, maybe 3 bikes - your PERSONAL selection - that meets your immediate need, and only 1 (per category-you'll ultimately "need" a couple more) that you'll take home that joyful day! :)) Happy riding, be safe. Shop has the home town feel of old school, but they have so much experience and exposure they are up on the latest. Always friendly to me and my friends. Great help on small repairs too. read more

Interesting selection of bikes, but I wasn't as impressed. Kingston Cyclery has a better selection and they are much bigger. This place feels a little cramped inside. Bike Brothers does bike sizes like "small", "medium" and "large", but that feels too general to me. At Kingston Cyclery they do actual measurements so I feel like it was much more specific to my frame. They were pretty friendly here though, and they seemed to be pretty helpful in answering questions. I guess it just wasn't my thing. read more

A couple of years ago I walked into Bike Brothers with my hybrid bike. It was not shifting properly and I had exhausted my expertise in bike mechanics. The owner who is also the bike technician, looked at the bike turned the crank and shifted through the gears he sprayed some lubricant and made several adjustments. "try that" I rode around the neighborhood and everything was fine, when I went back see what owed him he said nothing. 6 months later I was ready to upgrade my bike and so was my wife, I stopped in Bike brothers, it is a small shop very packed with equipment, the brothers are old style service minded business men. Unfortunately I wanted to explore and wound up purchasing two bikes at Kinston Cyclery. They have a bigger store less congested and a good selection, but what I experienced was that their customer service is quite the opposite. After purchasing the bikes and having routine tune-ups and service at Kinston Cyclery I called a week and a half before my vacation. I had a damaged wheel that needed to be replaced. They couldn't see me until the following Monday, I explained I would need the bikes back before Friday. I brought the bikes in early Monday morning and spoke to the owner I needed a built wheel as I am a heavy rider. He assured me he would call me in a couple of hours with the price. Ever called when I called he was not in the Technician said they were busy had not gotten to my bike yet, same the second day. Finally I went in and was told they would need to order a wheel and it won't be in before Friday. I took the bike over to Bike Brothers who took it in and had it for me the next day. I am ready to upgrade and had talked to both shops about that, Though Bik brothers did not have the bike I was looking for in my size they ordered it immediately and said when it came in I could ride it and there was no obligation to purchase it. They do not try to sell you up to a higher level but are sincere and honest about your needs and explain what they recommend and why. read more
