So I picked up my bike after getting great pricing for a bunch of new parts and labor: new bottom bracket, crankset, chainring, chain, headset, all installed, and new brake pads and a great "tuning" of my brake. Well everything works 100% and my bike has never felt better. The brake works well, everything is solid and looks good. I had been to a few other shops and consistently got quotes on the work I needed that were a lot higher and so was very pleased to walk in my local shop and get great service and better pricing. I am not the most mechanically inclined person, in fact i plain suck at fixing anything on my bike. I've been to this place multiple times and every time they have me back riding within minutes. This is a fine bike shop if you know what you're looking for, but I wouldn't recommend them for a first bike purchase, at least not if you want to be sure that your bike is fitted properly. They have some general knowledge about the bikes they offer and they seem to be fine with repairs - and they're friendly - but they seem to have limited knowledge when it comes to recommending the right bike for individual goals and body frame. So I would recommend them for a reasonably priced second bike purchase or repairs. read more

Stopped in here after first visiting Tony's Bicycles (just to browse prices and options). The customer service here is really non existent. There was one person on the floor- this lady had no idea what was going on. I asked her to show me some road bikes and Hybrids. Blank stare. Deer in headlights. I asked her again, she really was at a lost for words and sent us over to some magazines by the front door. I walked out and later purchased the bikes at Tony's. read more

I live right down the street, and I came here because my stem was loose and no amount of tightening seemed to help me. They helped me out right away 30 mins before closing, and even tightened my handlebars and filled my tires-- all for free! Great service and super nice people. Do not trust this store for service or repairs. They are dangerous. My experience: They did not pay attention to what they were doing, they got defensive when I called them on it, and they provided a sloppy "resolution" with attitude to boot. I had purchased a very old bike from craigslist and taken it to Bike Stop for a tune up. I said, "do whatever you need to to make it safe and reliable." I got it back and was told it was working fine. After the chain fell off twice in 2 days I stopped by another place. They showed me that my gear whatever was shot, that my back tire was wobbly as could be and my breaks were dangerously loose. They told me, "a bike this old needs a tune up." Yes, I had just paid for one and now I have to pay for one again. I think it is super crappy and I feel taken advantage of. Why not charge me for the new parts needed and fix my bike. Why send me off to commute on a dangerous bike? I think they just washed my bike off a bit and that was it. read more

Very friendly and knowledgable but they are complete space cases and communication skills are poor/non-existant. If you leave your bike and they say they're going to do something, make sure you call them to check on the status of your bike. There is no tracking system whatsoever, and they will not call you back or generally do anything unless you pester them repeatedly. read more

I've always had great service here. Last time in, instead of selling me a part I didn't need, they explained how to fix it myself.

The negative reviews are a shame.The prices have gone up but one of the reasons the last guy had to sell was because he coudnt afford the rent...umm recession? Thats why prices are more expensive now.They are so sweet and so patient and are fun guys to talk to as well. They've helped me with everything that Ive every needed sometimes not even charging me if it was an easy fix. They also TAUGHT me to fix some of the things i wanted to pay them for to fix. Not a good experience. One time I came in for a simple bar change. They tagged on approximately 3 times the amount in fees. Another time I purchased a tire for $49. I was shocked to go to the manufacturers website afterwards and see that it sells for $37.50 (MSRP). They do have a good selection of parts.. but they broke the bond of trust. read more

Unless the owner is there the staff is unreliable. I was waiting for ten minutes while this girl talked on the phone to her girlfriend about what went on the night before. Unbelievable. Also, they refused to replace a basket after it broke - my girlfriend put her lock in it and it snapped off- they said it was her fault! Rude and crude. read more

The guys are knowledgeable and know how to fix a bike but the manager seems to have a hard time being polite and has treated me disrespectfully more than once. There's definitely a guy culture going on in there. Don't walk in there if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, ladies. read more

This store is simply great! I'm"m very new to the world of bike riding but my partner is an expert and the BIKE STOP staff was not only helpful but extremely accommodating and above all patient. They were able to help me find a new seat for my bike and then installed it for me right on the spot and it wasn't the most expensive seat in the place, just the best seat for me. They were able to address my partners more intricate questions about fixed gear bikes, downhill riding and some other stuff I have no idea about. The store has all the accessories you would ever want at reasonable prices, they keep good hours, and are open 7 days a week. What I appreciate the most is the staff is not just working at a bike shop, they are part of a community and they take it very seriously. The enthusiasm and sincerity of the staff at the BIKE STOP's along with there great selections will keep me going back and tweaking my bike all year around! I live down the road from Bike Stop. It's a small shop with a little of everything you need. The guys that work there are friendly and helpful. Mark is the best employee this shop has. He helped me with a complex 650b conversion and never tried to sell me stuff I didn't need. Yes, sometimes during the weekend, they get pretty slammed and back-up. It's a small shop. All I can say is, if you need work done, go later or earlier in the day on a weekend, or if you can, stop in during the afternoon M-F. Any shop gets backed up noon-4 on a Saturday or Sunday. If you're looking for a bicycle shop that will provide you with enough of what you need without trying to rip you off, go to Bike Stop. Ask for Mark. He's there nearly every day. He's the guy with the tattoos and piercings. Don't worry though, you won't get an ounce of attitude from him like you will if you go into a place like Sids in Manhattan. I'm a fan. read more

Bike stop is the best shop in Astoria/LIC hands down. A year ago, I would not have said this, but there is new management, which has really made a difference. In March, I purchased a Trek Alpha 1.1. While the price was fair, its the service that has really made the difference since the purchase. Having tried all the bike shops in Astoria, I often get the feeling that the staff are a bit clueless, and generally try to sell you the most expensive items. That is not the case at Bike Stop. I have dealt with Mark and Frank, who staff the store at most time, and who both have been outstanding. Both have professional knowledge of all kinds of bikes, which is surprisingly hard to come by in NYC bike shops. I also never felt as though anyone was upselling me. Lastly, the service has been excellent. Free tune ups for the first four years of ownership, no questions asked, as well as helpful answers to all my questions. While I am less certain as to whether the prices are the best in the area, as I did not shop around as much as I should have, I would wholeheartedly recommend Bike Stop on the basis of customer service. read more

I have been going back and forth between this bike place and another one in Astoria where the owner has a pretty fancy pedigree. They are both great but everything at The Bike Stop is a bit more affordable. I ride a beat up old Schwinn ever since my beautiful Giant was stolen away from me (sniff!). I treat the Schwinn like crap and often leave it outside in the rain (like right now). It began to squeak and I thought I had better take it in for a tuneup. When I explained to Carlos what I wanted he quickly steered me in the right direction. I did not need the $80 tuneup. I needed a $50 replacement part.I came back the following morning and the repair was done. My bike now rides like a much more expensive piece of equipment. Excellent work was done on both the repair and service.I appreciate the honesty and integrity that all of the workers at the Bike Stop showed and will be going back for all of my bicycle related needs in the future. EDIT 10-18 These guys continue to impress me with their integrity. I went in expecting to have to buy new brake pads for my beat up old Schwinn. Instead of taking my $$$ and doing what I asked they cleaned my existing pads and wheels and sent me on my way without taking a dime. Thanks guys! read more
