What a shit experience going to this place, I had already gone months before to buy things for my bike and today I decided to fix something that my new bike had, the mechanic did not want to attend to me and asked me for more money in case I wanted to do it, in the end I ended up going to a bike shop on Roosevelt Avenue read more

I paid $120 for a tune-up and was told to come back if the bike needed any adjustments over the next month. By the time I got home I could tell that my rear brake wasn't adjusted correctly. I brought the bike back a few weeks later on a Thursday. Andreas, the mechanic, was not present. I was told to come back the following day (they would not keep the bike overnight so that it could be fixed) and it would be a quick 5-10 minute fix. When I returned the following day (with my kids in tow), I was told to leave it and return 1 hr later. When I came back 1 hr later, I learned bike needed a new brake cable, which would cost $14.00, and to return in 30 minutes. Wasn't this the whole point of doing the tune-up? I agreed and paid up because I had wasted so much time. As many others have said, this place has TERRIBLE customer service. They do not open the shop when they say they will. Andreas is often not on the premises and they will turn you away rather than hold your bike until he returns. They do not finish the work when they say they will finish it. If anything changes, you will a) wait longer than expected, and b) pay more than your original quote. I have gone to this shop off and on for over 10 years (b/c I want to support local business and b/c I'm too lazy to walk further to the next shop up the road) but this most recent experience will be my last. I'm so sick of being treated like garbage just to do routine maintenance work on a bike. Avoid this place!!! read more

Edited September 10th: the " front desk " lady has no sense of customer service. Have a gear shifting issue with my bike and didn't have the option to go to a different bike shop. First try: the shop is full, they cant take my bike, won't even hear about the issue I have to see if they can even help me and send me away to come back 5 days later. Just went back today and the same lady played it like she wasn't the one who saw me last time, only to tell me they couldnt help me. Asked her if the repair man could at least take a look at my chain that I haven't been able to fix since it last derailed, she wouldn't ask that and told me to fix it myself. Terrible place and terrible service, STAY FAR AWAY. ____________________________ I'm a newbie cyclist and brought a fixie bike for a tune in. It took 5 days - I didn't mind at all given the crazy increase in demand during Covid. When I picked up my bike, the pedal was making a continuous clicking noise while riding that wasn't happening when I took it in. Took it home hoping it was just a temporary thing - it wasn't. Brought it back a few days later, they barely took a look at it and told me that was just how it was. Didn't offer any solution - not even something they could've done to fix at an extra charge. Tune in was $60 including 30 day service - but I guess the 30 day service doesn't really mean much. It's a shame - my plan was to return and buy a $500 new bike there when they'd be available to purchase again. I recently went to this bike shop to get a tune-up and to check and see if there was a problem with my hub because the wheel didn't seem to turn very well. My assumption was that it was just dirty but I had no idea, I'm not the mechanic. The woman who received my bike told me the tune-up would be $60 and that they would absolutely call me if there needed to be anything done besides a tune-up. I was a little on the fence about getting this bike tuned since it had been bought used for $100 about 4 years ago but decided to just go for it. Upon returning later that week to pick up my bike, they informed me that they had replaced my rear wheel because the inside of the hub was cracked and that the bill would now be $120. I am absolutely not here to to say that they lied to me about the hub, I believe that it was broken. However I was very unhappy to hear that they had gone ahead and replaced my wheel without calling me, like they had promised. They defended themselves by saying that I "had no choice" but to replace the wheel and that they are "very honest people". Again, I'm not denying that the hub was broken but I absolutely had some choices. One was to select the new wheel I would end up buying, one was to shop around for a quote, one was to just get a new bike entirely. The fact that they promised to call me if anything more than a tune-up was necessary and then clearly didn't and went ahead doing whatever they wanted is why this place is getting a 2-star review from me. read more

I am lucky enough to live in the same building as "Bicycle Repairman" which is the best Bike Shop here in Long Island City/Astoria NY. They sell nice bikes such as Jamis and Bianchi's, road bikes, fixed gear bikes, track bikes, mountain bikes and hybrids, kids bikes, etc. Its owned by an amazing guy named Andres. This bike shop is the most friendly in the city, they are not at all pretentious like most shops here in NYC. I walked in the store to browse one day, and I went home and looked up all the models, so when I went back I had done my homework. The owner, Andres, approached us and asked us a lot of questions about what we wanted. He has no attitude what-so-ever. He is not at all pushy, and if he thinks a cheaper bike is better suited for you, he will try and sell you the cheaper bike. For example, one of the bikes he tried to show me was a 2009 model....and I was thinking to myself..."you're going to try to sell me a 2009 bike at the original 2009 price..."...but unexpectedly, Andres goes, "This is a 2009 model so Its automatically $100 off the price. Most bike shops here in the city try to screw you over, this guy is really good. They are very experienced mechanics at this store. Andres, from what I've heard, used to work as a repairman at a major store here in NYC. He totally knows what he's doing. They sell a lot of accessories here such as helmets, gloves, etc, but very little clothes. Lots of other accessories though, just very little assortment of shorts and jerseys. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. They called me to say that my helmet was ready to be picked up. Their posted store hours are 11am to 6pm. I went at noon, but the store was closed. I waited until 1pm and still no one showed up to open the store a full 2 HOURS after opening. I called and left a message and I still haven't heard back at 8pm. Best Bike shop in NYC. I trust few people when it comes to working on my bike and Andres is definitely one I do trust. Talking with him while he worked on my bike, I got to know a little about his background and i thought i would share. Andres has a long history with bikes, over 30 years. Starting in Columbia building bike frames. Actually welding them from Columbus steel tubing (the best) he still has customers riding his bikes today. He also has relatives that raced in the Tour de France! Opening his own shop in astoria is the result of his passion for bikes and experience working for another bike shop for many years. His experience was immediately obvious when i brought in a bike i found in a dumpster. The painted decals were old and worn off from age, but he immediately identified the frame builder with a reminiscent smile. He has treated my my other bikes with great care and has offered great advice on equipment. So i write this review as a tip to his professionalism and great service. If you are looking for a bike shop that does good work, or a experience cyclist that can lead you in the right direction. Go see Andres! And you know the rules... I normally do not write reviews but wanted to give a heads up for first time visitors. 1. I was told that my bicycle was ready for pick up and confirmed their store hours, (11:30am open). Arrived at the shop by noon, shop was CLOSED, waited more than 30minutes and other people were also waiting. I wasted 1 hour going and coming back home. had to revisit. Everyone's time is precious. Don't tell your customer to come if you are going to be closed. 2. When I finally revisited in the afternoon, our bike had even more scratches, the mechanic did not know how my bike worked (folding bike) and was just pressuring and was not handling the bike with care, just talking about how professional he is when he doesn't have the knowledge about the folding bike. I even had to tell my bike company to not do any business with them because it was not a great experience, I would rather visit other shops in the city. read more

I was very impressed by the service. I needed my bike boxed for my cross-country move and they did that for me and it was available when they said it would be. They even offered to drop me off with the bike at home, since I was within a mile to the shop. In addition, before I left with my boxed bike they explained how the bike was disassembled in the box along with what I would need to do in order to reassemble it -- I really appreciate the time and effort they made to answer questions I didn't even think of, but would have had when it was time to put it back together weeks later. Got my bike tuned up for $95! I called 3-4 nearby bike shops and this was the only shop that had available slot within the next few days. I dropped off the bike on Tuesday, and the bike was ready to be picked up by 5pm on Thursday. 4-stars since it would've been nicer if they gave an overview/summary of the tune-up upon release? Those personal touch/engagement will go a long way! My bike that went untouched in the garage for the last 10 years is now happily on the road. I usually avoid repair shops and opt into repairing my bike myself via YouTube tutorials, but I'd heard such good things from my Queens friends about Andres that I figured I'd give it a go. Andres was super helpful; he had my bike repaired an hour or two after the parts came in. I paid a bit over a hundred bucks to have my cables switched out, for a new gear shift and handlebar, to have a new rack installed in the back, and for a general tuneup! This is in line with what I was expecting- my mechanic friend says he comes here for parts because they sell them cheaper than he can find online. I think his daughters assist in the shop too. They were very friendly and communicative about updating me about my bike, when to expect it, etc. My bike has never performed better. I wish I had brought it in earlier; I would have saved myself a lot of headache! read more

Best bike shop ever! Smart friendly staff. They helped me pimp my ride last year. I bought a Bianchi Via Nirone, got PINK Velo rims, shiny white seat & white handle bar tape. He helped me order it and got it to me FAST! I ordered I think on a Tues or Wed. and had it by that Saturday! And he had to have the rims shipped from Florida! Called in for a quote over the phone and I got quoted $120 to repair my breaks, due to me telling the csr that I put together the bike by myself and he said that he would only do it if I get a tuneup on it, I agreed. I walked over 2 hours later with my bike I asked how much to install some basic brake pads I got quoted $15 each for a total of $30 and were done within 20-30 minutes. No frills type of place, phone communication and quite were bad, but Walk in or go in person to the shop service was excellent will be back again for any bike repairs or needs. read more

A guy with broken english mumbled "xyz plus labor 10 dollars" I was not sure if he understood my question and asked back If this is correct information for patching a tube. He said " i am with a customer, do me a favor and just come in" I biked there just to find out that they do not do patching service. I spoke up complaining why the guy told me to just come in. I own a pretty expensive road bike, but I don't know much about the mechanics of a bike, so whenever there's a problem, I would have to bring it to a bike shop for it to be looked at. I bought my bike at some place I thought was great, but customer service sucked after my sis said some stuff about them. Plus their skills as a mechanics were suspect. Nothing ever seemed right. So I did some search and found this place. We went there for the basic tune-up and they gave us a pretty good price. We really needed our bikes the next day, but they were able to accommodate. They told us to pick them up the same day, and they did have it ready for us by then. Andres, the mechanic, was the one who fixed up our bikes. He also gave us a call to let us know that they were ready. Andres is a really great mechanic. When we picked up our bikes, he told us that our seats might be too high, so he told us to get on the bikes so he can see. Indeed, the seats were a bit high, so he adjusted it for us. He also noticed that my seat was not an angle that was ideal; it was slanted downwards, so he adjusted it for me. He said that a seat that is parallel would allow me to better control my bike, and I wouldn't be shifting around so much sliding back and forth. We also chatted up a bit, and he told us that Bicycle Repairman Corp is a business owned by him and his family, and that he's been in the bike business for quite some time. I definitely would be coming back here (even though I get free basic tune-ups at the other place I bought my bike), because Andres did a really good job on our bikes. They were sparkling clean, and my gears were shifting pretty smoothly. I'm a pretty happy biker! read more

I just got home coming from the shop. I just bought my 2nd bike from this store and all I can say is that this place will make you want to keep coming back. Not just for the bikes, but even more for the service that Andres and his family delivers. They really take their time to help you with what you need. The first bike I bought in 2012 was a Specialized Sirrus (hybrid). Sold that and now ready for a road bike. It's a Friday after work and I got there at 7pm (they close at 8pm). I've never tried a road bike so I had to try 3 different ones tonight. The 3rd one I wanted was almost perfect, almost because there was a rattling sound coming from the brakes/gears. It was already past 8pm and Andres offered to swap it out... after 8PM. I kept apologizing for taking up his family and rest time away since I know he's there all day. Now, I'm not a bike expert. I'm barely even a bike amateur. I took my bike, which had sat unridden in the basement of my old apartment building for at least two years, to be tuned up and repaired if necessary so I can start doing some riding again. I brought the bike in on a Saturday, and the woman at the counter looked it over and said if all went well, it would only be $65 for the basic tuneup. She did warn me that it may need new tubes but they were only about $5/each. She told me it would be ready by Wednesday evening, but I didn't end up picking it up til this past weekend. The same woman was at the counter and I only had to wait a few minutes for them to bring my bike out good as new. I didn't end up needing new tubes, so it was just $65 for the tune-up, which surprised me. A lot of places would try to upsell or replace unnecessary things to make more money off of you, and honestly, with my knowledge of bikes, I would have easily fallen victim to that. So it really stood out to me that they didn't do any unnecessary part exchanges or repairs to jack up the bill. The woman also told me that if there were any problems, such as needing gears or brakes adjusted, or anything else that I was unsatisfied with about my tuneup, I could bring my bike back in within 30 days for a free adjustment/change in my tuneup. Another sign to me of great customer service. I rode my bike home and it rode beautifully. I was very happy with the work done, the customer service was great, and I considered the price to be quite reasonable, given the quality of the work and service. I can't comment on their bikes/accessories for sale, since I didn't actually buy anything there. I will definitely be back though, as I need to get a few accessories. I realize that it's often easier/cheaper to buy things online than in a retail setting, but I'm happy to give my business (and my few extra $$ if necessary) to a company that really seems to care about its customers and their satisfaction. read more

So I've had a bad first experience at this place. Maybe it was just a bad day? I wanted to like this shop because of its proximity to my apartment and because the shop is just so clean. Their inventory is also really, really nice. I gave this shop another try one morning a few days ago. It was the day I decided to revamp my 2005 road bike. The bike had a leaky inner tube so I had to walk it to the shop. Andres, who was having coffee outside with his pooch gave me a warm greeting. I told him what I thought the bike needed: new tubes as mine have been sitting around since I got a hybrid commuter for say a year or so and the headset needed to be tightened. He said he could work on it right away. He asked for specialized tubes, always a could choice, so I said nothing. While working on my bike I remembered that one of my wheels needed truing. Unfortunately, I'd have to leave my bike overnight if I wanted that done as it was a busy day for them. The day was too nice and I already had plans to ride that day so I said I'd come back another time for that. I also got bar tape while waiting. Leidy, was very helpful and was happy to pull out every color of lizardskins for me. But I prefer good old black cork. She gave a specialized one for $15, really well priced and the cheapest I've seen them in a store. After about 15-20 minutes my bike was done. Andres complimented my wheel set and told me to come in anytime for the truing. This was the first time I've actually interacted with Andres. He seems to have so much professionalism and a whole lot of knowledge and skill about bikes. I think I've found the right mechanic for my beloved Stella (my road bike). Yes, I had ONE bad experience at this place but I am so glad I came back. And I will be coming back. read more

Take my review with a grain of salt. I purchased a Citizen Gotham 2 online, got my bike and turns out something is wrong with my rear derailleur, tried fixing it my self but I eventually gave up. So I found out about this place seen the positive reviews, OK great. I personally tightened the tension on my gears way to tight and my derailleur was making a grinding noise. The front lady told the older gentlemen my problem he gave her a face of "great not another piece of shit bike problem", but he took my bike and had someone else look at it. The great part which I give them credit for is they fixed the problem I caused which was to much tension on my gear shifter, thank you for that. The guy told me go out and take it for a ride, I did and it was still making a grinding noise, took it back in and became ridiculed. He asked if the bike came in a box, well of course I bought it online. From there he complained that "these bikes are made cheaply". Wow thanks. Guess what, Brampton's and Dahons come in a box to if you purchase them online. I get it my bike didn't cost over $500. But because I didn't buy it from you, or that it came in a box was no excuse to not take a second look at it. I then asked well what do I have to do, he told me there's not much he could do but if I wanted to pay $65 for a tune up he can look at it. OK look all I needed as an explanation to WHY it was making a noise. Look thank you for not charging me for putting it up on your bike rack and fixing the tension, I give them alot of credit for that. But other than that, no good. I feel like if you didn't buy a bike from them or if your bike came in a box that it won't be worth looking at. I plan on taking it somewhere else. read more

I've used Andre for the past two years after trying all the local bike shops in Astoria. You will not find a better bicycle mechanic in this area. Andre is friendly, honest and a true gem for cyclist. His labor rates are more than fair and his free advice is priceless. As for the negative review for his shop being closed at "random" times..... Snapped a pedal on my mtb while doing hoodrat stuff with my friends, and could not, for the life of me, get its shattered remains off with a 15mm wrench. It was entirely jammed. So I packed up my pride and my bike and wheeled it over to bike store. W/in 2 mins, he had my pedals off and new ones installed (that I had brought myself). While i was there noticed him fitting a little kid (who was there with his folks) on a bike - seemed genuinely concerned that the kid fit on the bike and that it was an appropriate selection. You don't see that very often. Would urge people to check this place out, from looking at the mtb's (don't know that much about road bikes), had a good selection of Specialized brand bikes. read more

This place saved me from a bitter separation from my bicycle. As I was moving across the country, I was planning on shipping my bike. I thought it was as easy as finding a box and unscrewing some handlebars. Such was not the case. After a struggle of trying to disassemble my bike without breaking it, I decided it was time to find a professional. Like all things important in my life, this was a last minute scramble. I called Bicycle Repairman Shop and they said they'd gladly package my bike for a very reasonable price. I just needed to take care of the shipping portion. I am extremely happy with the service I received here. I didn't feel pressured by the friendly saleswoman. I came in looking for a hybrid. She showed me what she had in stock, gave me objective advice on the differences between models and let me leave and think about it, which I appreciated. I settled on a beautiful blue Specialized Vita and am really happy with it. I'm also glad that it comes with free parts replacement for one year and free tune-ups for three years. Andres is an excellent mechanic and person. For quite awhile, he has made various repairs to my husband's mountain bike and conducts a yearly maintenance in the spring to make sure it's good for all the summer riding and nothing is needed for repairs or safety (kind of like our own personal bike inspector). He did a way better job than the guys in the UES (Larry's Bike Shop) and was able to get rid of the back and forth wobbling. What made this visit exceptionally memorable was Andres telling me about one of the bikes (The Duke) he cherished in the store. I was here on a Sunday afternoon wanting to purchase something I could ride immediately afterwards. They are located 2 blocks from my apartment so I figured it would be the perfect place to go back to for tune ups too! Two employees were sitting and chatting in the back and they both looked at me and then continued having their conversation without giving me any further acknowledgement (no hello or smile). I walked around to look at the bikes for a few minutes and still no peep from either employee. Customer service is very important to me when I know I'll be spending a lot of money and they obviously didn't seem to know what that is. For a store that was completely empty of customers, you'd think they would work a little to get my business. The level of service I received over the years from this shop is much better than any of the other local bike shops. It is a true mom and pop business with exceptional attention to their customers. Every time I come in here, I notice customers leaving with a smile on their faces.Andres, the shop owner, has provided me with invaluable tips that have helped me while cycling on the road. I recently purchased my first clip-less pedal system from them and they assembled it for me quickly and with no additional service charge. Andres made sure I was comfortable with the float of the cleats by asking me to ride outside the store while clicking in and out. He also advised me to not forget that I am connected to the pedal whenever I am about to stop. Of course, as I was test-riding in front of the store and stopped at the front door, I forgot to clip off and crashed onto the sidewalk. Andres, ran out to help me out and he fixed my bike by realigning the handlebar and brake levers that took a beating from the crash. He fixed the bike without me asking and did not charge anything for it. He also showed me how to properly lube and grease parts of the bike to keep it running well. What a sweet man. read more
