My 1975 Hetchins with 52/42 and 13/26 was getting a bit too hard to go up my hill to home so I found a Stronglight compact crank set 48/34 and brought it to Kevin for assembly as he's an expert in new and old. I went in to change cleats on my Pelaton shoes to try and to ride a neighbor's road bike a the nice man changed them out for Shimano SPD road clips, so I thought everything was cool until I get home and they didn't work. I took the bike back to the shop and he said the pedals were mountain bike pedals. How would I know? Anyways, he installed some compatible pedals on the bike and he couldn't have been nicer. If I could give no stars I would. I'm down this way for vacation and got a flat tire on my bike. I was out of tubes and after looking on line I saw "Bikeman" got some great reviews so I decided to go there. I walked in with tire in hand, the employee was on the phone, he proceeded to continue talking and never acknowledged me. My friend came into the shop and the employee still on the phone never even looked our way , although he defintely knew we were there. He never put a hand up, or mouthed "I'll be right with you" Nothing, no acknowledgment. After standing there for a good 5 minutes we walked out. So that was my experience - an employee who couldn't be bothered to acknowledge our presence. Maybe they do great work there, I will never know. After my experience I would never go back nor recommend the place. read more

Kevin was great. My road bike had a creak coming from the bottom bracket so I took it into another LBS and they had me get a full tune up while reviewing the issue. Two days later they called saying the bike was ready. I picked up my bike and went for a ride. Sure enough the noise coming from my bottom bracket was still there. After talking with the bike shop again they claimed nothing was wrong and riding it should be fine. I decided to get a second opinion and brought it to Kevin "bikeman". Within five minutes he found the issue. The crank was just loose. Its obvious the other bike shop never even touched it. I then asked about a fitting (it had been two years since my last) and Kevin was thorough. Everything from cleat placement to saddle position. I have been riding every day since and the bike feels amazing! Thank you Kevin. I am not one to trash a small business because of one negative experience so I have chosen not to list the first LBS name, but the real point of the review is WHY GO ANY WHERE ELSE the bikeman is great! I took it to Kevin to see if he could breathe new life into the old dinosaur and in less than a week he had it running like new...all for a very reasonable price. I have been a customer of Kevin and this wonderful repair shop for ten years. He keeps my old custom titanium bike going. Two years ago he built me new wheels. I am devoted to a one man shop where I know the bike mechanic is an experienced veteran who knows me and my bike. This is an extraordinary place. I was hearing an irregular clicking sound from the lower end when I powered the pedals. I took my bike to Kevin, waiting until the Thanksgiving rush was over. After all, this is a one man shop. He knew right away I needed a new chain. within 48 hours he called and said my bike was ready. He put on a new chain and tuned things up and rode the bike to check it out. No attempt to sell me anything I did not need. Cost: $31. How can you beat this? And why would you go to a bike shop where they wheel your bike in the back and you have no idea who is working back there and what the experience level is. He also sells tires, tubes, bar tape and that sort of stuff. Go for the privilege of having your bike work done by a real pro. Don't go anywhere else. read more
