I brought my bike to the shop last night around 6pm after my front derailleur started acting up (ie not working); even though they were slammed, they managed to take a look at my bike quite quickly. I totally appreciate that they offered to replace the broken part with a used part rather than forcing me to shell out $$$'s on a new derailleur. Plus, they hooked me up with a loaner bike to ride home with so that they could fix my bike today. Most other bike shops that I have visited in the past usually tell me to come back the next day if it is within 1-2 hours of them closing. I appreciated that this place stays open later than most of those shops and clearly is more open to finding ways to accommodate customers. This is definitely on my list for go-to bike shops. read more

Just bought a bike here on the weekend. Lucas and his crew were awesome. Very patient, helpful and not pushy with the sales at all! Had gone around the neighbourhood to the other bike stores and couldn't find the same level of service. Realized I should just go back and buy the bike! So glad I did!!! Worst service I experienced in a bike shop, ever! I thought that the person that was "helping" me probably had a bad day. He did not greet me when I came in to the store (or when I left, or say thank you, goodbye...). He kept trying to sell me more parts and more repairs for my bike, even after I explained all I wanted was what I asked for. When I came back to pick up my bike, he was the one "serving" me again and he still had a chip on his shoulder - so much for the theory that he had a bad day. When I mentioned that the part that I wanted changed did not seemed to have been changed, he became angry and accused me of lying about the repair that I asked for. Finally when he finished his tirade, he asked the mechanic about it; the mechanic looked at the invoice slip and said that he made a mistake and that he had installed the wrong piece. By the mechanic's tone, you can tell that he did not think that that was a big deal, and neither did I, a simple mistake. However, the person "serving" me turned this into a federal case. To make matter worst, beside not apologizing, was the fact that he would not fix my bike now (it was a simple, quick fix). He asked me to wait another week for the mistake they made. Fortunately the manager (I assumed) who was present during this whole incident and who had not say anything until then, finally step-in and told me my bike would be ready in a few hours. I am not sure what is worst about the "service" at Bikes For All, is it that an employee treats customers in a disrespectful manner, or is it that this is acceptable practice for the manager? read more

After explaining what I wanted in a new bike, I was given 3 bikes to test drive. They all had their charms, and it was tough to narrow it down to 'the one'. The technician was able to swap out the handlebars and 'voila', my new ride became my stairway to heaven. Attractiveness, comfort and functionality in a sweet set of wheels. The service was stellar and I was especially impressed that the bike I purchased at 4pm was ready two and half hours later with all my favourite accessories and few new ones attached and ready to go! You must check this place out if you need to service or to purchase a bike. read more

I also had a groupon for a tuneup, and had a somewhat similar experience to some of the people below, although slightly more positive. The guy there tried to convince me to get the whole degreasing tune-up experience for an extra $40 which seemed a bit steep when added to my $25 groupon...so instead I opted out but still went with the new chain/cassette/additional $10 cost for labour to add those parts. I don't know a lot about bikes so I'm not sure if what they charged me for parts was reasonable, but I still figured I was saving SOME money with the groupon. Since I had clear knowledge of my quote ahead of time, I was quick to check over my final cost when it came out to be a bit more than I expected. Turns out I was charged a bit more for the cassette and chain - BUT the cassette charge was reasonable (turns out my bike originally had the wrong sized cassette and they had to put a bigger one on, so he knocked the price of that and the labour cost down) and the guy knocked off the extra $1 for the chain when I asked him to. However, on the POSITIVE side, they seemed very knowledgeable and super nice, and the guy took time (20 min after closing time!) to give me some regular bike maintenance tips, and he even rushed my bike through and had it ready in one day when my jaw dropped at the original week-long tuneup estimate (I explained I road my bike every day and would miss it). They installed the fenders I bought for free, and now my bike works great. So even though I am still a bit skeptical about the quotes/costs, I had a positive experience in the end. read more

This was our first experience with the shop. We were overcharged, despite the original quote, and our concerns were dismissed when we tried to address the charges. Afterward there were problems with the services rendered and despite the offer to resolve them (by staff) the owner/manager refused to take responsibility for their products or services. Now we're left having paid for repairs that we'll have to have redone elsewhere. Buyer beware! We'll be utilizing one of the other local bike shops next time. read more

Last summer, my son and I visited Vancouver for 17 days and we rented 2 bikes for Bikes for All. We got 2 great and solid bikes, well tuned up. They installed 2 baskets and let us have 2 great locks as well. We'll do business with them again. Very friendly staff. read more

Had a coupon for the cleaning and tune up, and since we are moving overseas my husband thought he would ask them to do a clean and the then box. 4 days later he goes back, the charge him $50+ for boxing the bike, not unreasonable except...They found the largest box they could and just shoved the bike in there, as opposed to wrapping and protecting his bike they just threw every bit of plastic and cardboard that they could find (included the cup trays you get from Tim Horton's) to fill up the over sized box. And on top of that they didn't even clean the bike. We had to take everything out, clean the bike and then wrap and repackage, minus all the trash. Yes we are moving so of course we would never be going back, but I would warn others not to got there as well, especially if you actually want things done properly. I guess that's what you get when you go to place that needs to use coupons to drum up business. read more

So I was really let down by this place. The idea of "bikes for all" is quite different from what the company preaches. Unfortunately, yelp removed some of the more negative reviews of the store, one of which brought attention to the stores treatment of larger clientele. I had been looking at a Japanese street bike that my friend had marked on the sites Facebook feed and was absolutely IN LOVE with it! But as I looked further I noticed that they seem to think poking fun at overweight individuals is fodder for sales. Instead of listening to consumers who complained that it was very hurtful for many people they basically defended it as being a good way to encourage them to lose the weight and stubbornly defend their right to mock overweight people.. Because treating people with indecency is a really great way to inspire healthy action?. Honestly, had they acknowledged that they made a poor judgement call I likely would have still bought the bike - because hey? I'm not unreasonable, and everyone makes poor choices at times, and frankly - I really wanted to purchase that bike. But I'm not going to, I'm going to look for it elsewhere because it is clear to me that their behaviour has hurt a lot of people. People who really just wanted to share in the wonderful experience of cycling in this gorgeous city! You don't want to correct your approach, and you openly wrote that you think it's perfectly fine to poke fun at these people on your website since you dont do it straight to their face while their wallets are open to you! News flash - size does not effect reading comprehension! Cycling is an intimidating thing to get in to, especially if you're just beginning your physical fitness routine, and one would hope that a store thats mantra is "bikes for all" wouldnt so cruely alienate, then ignore the feedback of such a large percentage of the population. And remember, cycling is a healthy thing that anyone, large or small, could benefit from - and larger individuals who want to exercise can really benefit from a sport that doesn't put too much weight on their joints. Why are we hurting them for our entertainment when we could be encouraging and supportive? You are not getting my business today. But honestly, make a real effort towards ALL of your customers and I will reconsider. And I mean that. I really hope you change your approach, it would be better for both of us. What have you got to lose? Bad yelp reviews maybe, but nothing else. Today you lost 3 customers in just 30 minutes because of your customer "disservice". All three were crazy about that bike, serious about getting into cycling, seriously ready to improve their health, and seriously reaching for their wallets when they were taken aback by your treatment of overweight customers. If you don't regret your choices based on compassion let's hope capitalism does the trick. You're $900 dollars out in 30 minutes. Edit: the person they said was an "employee" behind the online fat shaming is actually the owner. Slight misrepresentation there but worth mentioning since from reading their reply to the controversy they seemed to be taking the angle that the poor employee is just goofing around and we shouldn't be so hard on him. It's not an employee problem, it's an owner problem. I'm very unhappy that this is the approach they took. Own up to your mistakes and make amends. read more

The condescending tone of the response to my post months later (below) only confirms my view that these guys see themselves as holier than thou bike experts when in fact they could care less what the customer says, wants or needs. Not once did I say that I didn't want to use the small cog in the front. I have used it regularly since I bought the bike and still do now that I have fixed what these guys couldn't. Seriously - save yourself the time and money and google or youtube your own repairs. It will be faster and cheaper than having these guys do it. one of the oddest bike shops I've been into. really strange staff, and uncomfortable customer service. to quote aerosmith, "dude looks like a lady!" they were a little pushy and dismissed a lot of opinions about what I needed in a bike very quickly. I went to Bikes for All to look for a used or inexpensive bike. From the beginning I was clear about what type of bike (cruiser/hybrid) I was looking for and my price range (~$250). Unfortunately, none of the bikes met my criteria but the sales lady I was nice enough to give me pointers on what to look for in a bike. While we were talking another man (the owner perhaps?) came and kept pushing me to try $400-$500 mountain bikes or fold up bikes or bikes that were clearly too small or too big for me. He would keep interrupting our conversation saying "WHAT ABOUT THIS BIKE?". I found him very rude and pushy. He did not care of my needs and just wanted to make a quick sale. Do not recommend this place at all. I am only giving this place 2 stars because of the helpful sales lady who originally tried to help me. read more

She helped me with more than just my bike; She helped me understand my transition from cyclist without a care to cyclist with precious cargo. I genuinely appreciate the time she took to talk me through the process of going from a road bike to a budget conscious "mom bike" during my pregnancy and for the first couple years of baby's life. I don't appreciate the upsells though - don't tell me to replace parts that are brand new, like I don't know the first thing about my bike. This isn't an auto shop. We spent our summer holidays in Vancouver and needed bikes to navigate this great city. We were perfectly willing to buy cheap bikes for the duration of our stay and then resell or donate them, since finding decent longer, non-day rental bikes had proved difficult in previous years. That seemed ineffective and somewhat wasteful. We then found Bikes 4 All which solved all of our problems. We got great bikes to ride across the city at a very competitive rate. We had no problems with the bikes whatsoever. They got us everywhere we wanted to go. The guys were extremely friendly and seemed to know their stuff. In the future Bikes 4 All will be our go-to place if we need long-term bike rentals again. Can't wait for next summer to roll around. read more

Mixed bag about this store. Bought a great bike there a year ago and had great customer service. Decided I'd give them my other bike to service after a long hard winter. Final cost was $500, which was valid for all the work they did on it. However it had to go back twice - gears misaligned, front disc brake squealing periodically, but worst of all the new rear tire they installed was too big for the frame. When I pumped it up to 80 psi, it rubbed on the fender bolt head! The guy who serviced the bike didn't show a lot of interest in fixing my problems. He lamely said that you can't expect to use all gears without some noise. Good on sales, lousy on bike maintenance. Not going back. read more

I hate seeing all the negative reviews for this place as both of my experiences have been excellent. After being quite happy with the attention and care my bike received when I took it in for a groupon tune-up, I decided to bring it here again after I was in an ugly collision with a car. They explained the extent of the damage, noting slight twists and kinks in the frame that I had not picked up on myself. my baby was not fixable :( so they wrote me up a generous estimate for the value of the bike and even gave me the business card for a lawyer who had a good track record for bike accident claims. They seemed deeply sympathetic to my situation, Lucas and his crew are obviously very passionate about cycling and the rights and safety of cyclists on the road. read more

I bought a used bike here, an older Nishiki, and I'm really happy with it. They were patient with me while I test-rode a bunch of different bikes. They also transferred my rack over from my old bike, put on a better kickstand and adjusted the breaks so they were better for me, free of charge. They also offered to lend me a bike to use for a day until everything was done but since I live nearby I didn't need it. These guys are very friendly and helpful. read more

I brought my bike in a few days ago with a broken axle and for a routine tune up. They completed the repairs quickly and it was evident that they put in a high level of care and attention into their work. The bike is pretty old but now it rides better than ever. read more

Finally dusted off the bikes we parked in the carport for a few years and took them into BFA. It was a good move - they knew their stuff, worked quickly and properly and were very patient and helpful with our timid cycling style. Bikes For All, indeed. We brought in 2 bikes needing tuneups and minor repairs. They seemed nice at first, so let's assume they started with 5 stars. Subtract one for charging double the estimated price without calling first. Subtract another for not finishing the job on time. Take away 2 more stars for the 2 times they were 'closed' during regular business hours. Minus another star for trying to avoid doing work I was being charged for (truing my spokes). Deduct 3 stars for causing 3 new problems with the bikes (rubbing fender, rubbing brakes, and slipping gears). Take away 3 more stars for not properly fixing things they said they would take care of (squeaky brakes, a flat tire, and the rubbing fenders that their own tuneup caused). Minus another 2 stars for not having the equipment they needed to remove my wheels and for not noticing the problem until after the estimated completion date. So far we're at negative eight stars. Even after all that, they could have earned back at least 10 stars by owning up to their mistakes and offering me some sort of discount or refund like they apparently did to others on this Yelp page, but instead, they ignored my in-person complaint and blocked me from their Facebook page when I raised the issues there. Take away two more stars for that, and there we have it, folks, a final score of negative ten stars. Unfortunately Yelp requires a minimum of at least one star, so that's why that star is on there. There are better bike shops out there, people... don't waste your time and money with these clowns. read more
