We thoroughly enjoyed our Biki experience. Three of us were on Oahu for ten days--our hotel was in Waikiki and regardless of where our day trips took us, we always wound up in our little corner of the island. We got three monthly memberships -- $15 each, with no limit on the number of times we could ride each day. We planned our trips between Honolulu to Diamond Head in 30-minute bursts. On our longer routes, we used the bike code, set an alarm on our phones for 27 minutes, docked one bike and immediately undocked another. Great exercise, great locations for docks, easy to use. We found it helpful to adjust the seat on the bike before inputting the code so we didn't waste any time. UPDATED 3/21/18: Eleven days after we got home, we got a charge for $3.00, for no valid reason. Three of us in my family traveled to Honolulu, three of us got accounts, three of us rode everywhere together, three of us docked our bikes together within the :30 window ... yet Biki insists on charging us for one rogue ride. My son called, my husband called ... both fell on deaf ears. I hope they make that $3.00 go far, because if I were you, I would find another option for getting around. Biki was so fun and easy to use while we were there-- what a racket now that the blling cycle is going through on our credit card statement. Should you wonder if the affordable cost and easy access is too good to be true, let me assure you: it is. I used Biki throughout my week in Oahu and I absolutely loved them! I would recommend this service to anyone. I was a bit skeptical at first, due to some of the negative reviews but I personally didn't experience any of those issues. I did pull a bike that had a flat tire once but things like that are to be expected from time to time, so as long as you are realistic and reasonable, you shouldn't have a problem. I found Biki to be the least expensive and most convenient transportation option on Oahu. I'm planning a return trip and I will definitely be using Biki again! read more

Do not rent from this place. They place a "temporary" $50 change per use of bike that apparently is returned to your account within 3-5 days. If they would advise that fact up front I would not if rented from them. Now I'm $100 short on vacation. Not cool at all. read more

This is just terrible and makes me sick. I should've read reviews first. My family member was a regular user of this for work and they accused him of not locking the bike in. he was in an area where I'm sure there were cameras. the light came on like normal and they charged his account $100! I tried speaking to someone there and they said it happens. IT HAPPENS! AND THEN THEY CHARGE FOR THIS! and the bike ended up missing because their faulty lock and he was charged. No way do I EVER want my family to use this service. Please take this seriously. I've spoken with others after this incident and now I see that it's no surprise. Great way to get around urban Honolulu! Compared with how rarely I rode my $700 commuter bike, had it stolen once (then returned - props to HPD), and having to store it, maintain it, pump the tires, etc - this is a much better millennial way of shared ownership. Most of the negative reviews seem to be regarding overage charges for improperly docked bikes. Haven't had any problems yet and they send a courtesy text to let you know you're successfully docked. Hope they improve this to keep ridership up... Bikes are in good condition considering they are parked outdoors, seats are easy to adjust, and the LED lights come on automatically for night riding. 3-speed commuter bikes that keep you upright for good visibility (if not for speed). App is easy to use and really accurate regarding the bikes available / empty docks available to park at your destination. read more

Biki bikes have been on my bucket list for some time now. I guess you can say that I wanted relive my childhood when bikes were the coolest thing ever! Riding your bike everywhere, the wind through your hair, putting your hands up in the air like a pro...brings back memories! Well after failing to hike today due to rainy weather we decided to go to ala Moana beach park to rent a biki bike. Figured we needed to be healthy and active after attempting to hike! We parked our car which was free and then walked to one of the biki stations. I think that I saw more than 3 stations within the park itself. Anyways you go up to the station and you touch the screen to begin. You choose the payment plan that you want and then how many bikes you are going to rent. From there you insert your credit card, type in your number, and zip code. Let's just say that it sounds extremely easy if the touch screen actually wanted to read my finger. It took about 5 minutes just to input all of this information because it was not clicking on the screen. I'm not sure if it was too hot because the sun was blazing on it or my fingers were too big?! I have no clue? So it tells you there's going to be a $50 hold on your credit card. No debit cards are accepted here. Then you receive a code that you can memorize or have printed. You go to a bike and on the left hand side you input your code. Let's just say that this took a minute as well. You're not 100% sure if you pressed the button because there is no distinct clicking noise. However the light will turn yellow for a bit and then green once the code is inputted correctly. Let's just say I inputted the code a few times in order to get the bike. The other issue is pulling the bike tire out of the rack. I'm not the strongest person in the world towering 5'1" over here, but seriously, you have you lift and pull it out all at the same time. Talk about Damsel in distress over here! Phew ok after about 10 minutes now I finally have my bike and need to adjust my seat. Pull the long lever towards you to unlock it so it's parallel to the ground. The seat will then move and you can lock it again by pressing the lever back up. I'm short so I have it all the way on 1. Alright now sitting on the bike you have the basics. You have a gear shift with hand breaks and even a bell I think. There's a small area in the front to store a small bag. Bike seems standard except for the rock hard seats that dig into your behind the entire way! After 30 mins of riding I felt like I bruised my entire behind...literally! I get it...price verses comfort...of course they can't make it comfortable at an affordable price point. BIKI's HR system is pretty bad. I just found that $102.62 was paid automatically from BIKI, so I asked to customer service what's going on. They just said, on July 28th, I didn't dock the bike improperly and someone just used right after me about 14 hours 43 minutes and 32 seconds and this is why they charged $102.62 about 4 months later without any notices since then. So I asked them to refund because I saw that my bike was docked properly and heard that sounds and saw that color changed when I was docking. I've been called twice a weak, and every time they said 'I'll call you back' but never happened. I just made my third call, and I hope they call me back this time. Very poor experience with Biki. I rented two bikes for a duration of no more than 20 minutes. We docked the bikes and made sure they were securely back in place; waited a couple of minutes for any notifications ie. return receipt via text or the on-site Biki screen. Nothing. But the bikes were locked in. Got a text message 12 hours later saying "Nice job! Your bike has been successfully docked." I checked my bank statement and I was charged $98 PER BIKE!!!! NINTEY EIGHT DOLLARS PER BIKE!! For a ride that took me TWENTY MINUTES!!! Called customer service and all she could say was "you should've waited for the green light when docking". I WAITED!! Hi!! We love Biki!! It's always nice to support local businesses and especially ones that are eco friendly. Biki accounts are easy to set up using the app on your phone or simply using the kiosk. There are bike docking stations all over town so we appreciated the convenience of this so we could stop and walk around for a bit and not have to use our minutes. It's so affordable and we only paid a tourist rate of $25 for 300 minutes (so 5 hours!!). We did have a tiny issue but Taro is one of their supervisors and he called us immediately and helped us out. If someone in customer service isn't available when you call, you can request a call back and ours was handled so quickly. We can't to use Biki again! read more

So, I took the family on vacation to Waikiki, Hawaii, during the last week of August. I went to the Biki, bike rental stall and slid my credit card (cc) for a bike on Monday, August 28th. I returned the bike the bike stall and made sure that the bike was secure and that it could not be removed anyone, as to not incur further charges on my credit card. I was not sure if the green light on the locking mechanism came on as it was raining extremely hard that day. Like I said, I made sure that it was secure and unable to be removed. I get my cc statement and discover that they charged my cc for $3.67 on August 30th, which is fine $3.50 including tax is $3.67. Right below that charge was another for $102.62 charged on September 12, 2017. I called on Saturday, September 23, 2917, and spoke with Jennifer and told her about the charge. She asked, if I had verified that the green light came on and I honestly told her that I did not. I did mention that I made sure that it was secure and unable to be removed, so I would not incur further charge on my credit card. She took my information and said that she would send my dispute to thier customer service department. So, I received a call back from them and it was determined that I would not be refunded the $102.62. The charge was for extended use, which makes no sense since I made sure the bike was secure and according to thier own user agreement; Bicycles not returned within 24 hours are considered lost or stolen. If User does not return a Bicycle as required by this Agreement or causes damage to a Bicycle, User agrees to pay an amount not to exceed $1,200. Which they obviously still have the bike or I would have been charged the ridiculous amount for a $200 bike. Needless to say Jennifer could have cared less about the charge, as I am now back, home in California. Jennifer would not even let me speak to anyone from their customer service department that makes these decisions. She just said that is how they conduct their complaints. Be wary of how you return the bike as for their customer service is lacking. As for our future trips to Hawaii, I will never rent a bike from them. read more

It's good when the stations work... I haven't ran into any crazy charges that these people have ran into, but I literally could not pay for my bike. First day, it took me 2 tries and 2 credit cares to get a transaction through. 2nd day I tried this, it took me 2 credit cards, 4 tries, and 2 different biki stations. Transaction would not go through so I just had to walk the last mile back to my hotel. I might just get cheap bike rather than going through this over and over again. Also 4 dollars for 30 minutes and 25 dollar a day for a bike rental is pretty steep (considering you can get a bike for 200 bucks if you are staying around Honolulu for a little bit longer). read more

Been using it for a while. Found it Overpriced and inconvenient when it comes to parking the bikes. The company should have more available stands to park the bikes. The map doesn't even keep up with actual available parking stands and it takes extra time to park the bike. It was fun, but def don't wanna use it anymore. Pretty horrible experience dealing with customer service. I tried to rent a biki bike with two friends and for some reason only my code worked and theirs didn't. After getting increasingly frustrated with the locks, we decided to just give up on riding the bikes and just call for a refund the next day. I had to call three times, only in the end to have someone tell me that I would not get a refund because my bike was "out" (aka off the rack) for 11 minutes and supposedly it is company policy to not provide a refund if your bike has been out for over 10 minutes. I wished I was warned of this when I bought the code, because I wouldn't have taken my bike off the rack before helping my friends if that was the case. The most frustrating thing is the two previous people I spoke with kept telling me that my refund will process, they just have to review/speak to a supervisor. But then to have to call a third time and have someone tell me "oh they probably didn't want to tell you the truth about the time limit". WHY WOULD YOU WASTE MY TIME LIKE THAT? I really wanted to try Biki and give it a fair chance, but now I'm hesistant to ever try it again. read more

After 3 years of regular use, I am "breaking up " with Biki!. Today was the last straw. I had a dental appointment and went to a stand that had 7 bikes ... none of them unlocked when I used my monthly pass. The next closest station to my house has disappeared along with several other Waikiki stations!!! I ended up having to go home, get my car, drive to the dentist and look for parking in downtown Honolulu... needless to say... way late for dentist and had to reschedule. This has happened so many times lately.... the bikes don't unlock. Last Friday I went to 5 different stands in Waikiki until I found one that worked. Biki has also gotten rid of stations all over and I end up having to walk a long distance to my destination after finding a stand to park in. I have counted on Biki for my commute to the Federal Building downtown ...for the past 3 years... with all this going on I have been late for work a few times also which has not been fun!!! Honolulu is among one of the many cities that's overly crowded and have roads not made to handle as much vehicles. I myself own a vehicle, a monthly bus pass, and now I hold a Biki pass. As much as owning a car is convenient, it's become one of the stressing factors as to why I started growing gray hairs. I'm kidding. Perhaps I'm simply getting too old. With that said, my joints are beginning to hurt and can no longer run the miles. Okay its part of my many excuses as to why I really hate exercising. So I've turned to Biki for some spin action, okay not exactly spin action like some do at 24 hour Fitness. But Biki has been my form of exercise while others use it for commuting. As soon as I started seeing Biki stations at my work vicinity, near my house, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Kaka'ako, Ward, downtown and Chinatown, I knew this was something many people might be concerned about. I was a little fearful since I dislike following behind slow mopeds and bicycles while I'm driving on the road. After trying Biki the first time, I felt happy. The bikes are easy to ride with adjustable seats, 3 speed, and a bell. Biki's other features come equipped with automatically blinking lights on the back and front and a spot to place your back pack with stretchable bands. Downloading the app was simple and easy to work with. There's a $15 monthly plan (month of unlimited 30 min rides), $25 monthly plan (month of unlimited 60 min rides), and a single ride for $3.50 (30 min duration). So far I've tried the Free Spirit Pass for $20 prepaid of 300 minutes over anytime period. This pass doesn't expire for at least many years out and it's about 5 hours of usage for the 300 minutes. I find this to be easier for my needs since I've gone 30-45 minutes at a time. The physical card is then sent to your mailing address to use and scan at the Biki station. Should you not want to bring the card around, codes are still unlock-able on the app. After selecting my desired Biki pass and paid through the app, I didn't need to touch the Biki kiosk. I'm able to obtain my code lock key based on the location I'm picking up the bike. Before unlocking the code key on the app, make sure you're at the station since this key is good for 5 minutes only. Enter the code at the key pad on the bike you desire to use and the light turns green when okay to take. Among other perks on the app is knowing how many bikes are left on certain stations and in your vicinity. Updates are at most real time. I also love adding all of my favorite stations on my favorite list. After the first few times of using Biki, I only wish there are more bike friendly lanes and paths around the city. I don't like joining traffic as I pedal pretty slowly and feel unsafe. I recommend reading all bike laws of the city like not riding the bike on certain sidewalks and on the crosswalk. I've heard a few get fined hefty costing tickets for breaking these city laws when caught. I also recommend for the Biki apps to start including notifications on the amount of time we have left on passes. Otherwise, I really enjoy using the Biki's at any part of the day and would be using this regularly for my commuting, working out or feeling the Hawai'i breeze. I really love Biki! It has inspired me (and sig O) to exercise more then the usual walk. I even find time to sneak in a ride in between appointments, in my street clothes. The bikes are clean and solid with a small basket in the front handlebars with obligatory bungee cord to hold yer stuffs. I suggest checking the bikes prior to a ride. Check tires, seat position and adjust prior to your ride. I would pick the bike of your choice and then get the code to unlock. And if you notice a bike with mechanical difficulties just press the red wrench on the release to notify others. The bikes appear to be well maintained but there was one with a flat and another with gear switching problems so please check 'em carefully. My only gripe is that they seem to continuously move racks, but if you use the app it will show you where the racks are as well as how many bikes are available. To me $3.50 is a bit high for 30 minutes, so for $20 you can come and go as you please for 300 minutes. Much better and no clock to beat! read more

Just had my first biki bike experience. It was so easy to use. I opted for the 300 minutes for $20 instead of pay per ride. I plan to use it to get downtown this summer. Lots of my friends use it as well and have never had problems. I do with the hourly rate was a bit cheaper. Doesn't make sense that is the same price as the bus. I love riding Biki around but they have the worst customer support. I called and the man who answered was flippant and dismissive. The information he gave me didn't make any sense, he was repeating to me an email address that I have never had. He said he was changing my email address to the correct one, but he sent me a link that doesn't work. I am back at step one. Preparing my 2019 taxes I noticed unauthorized charges of $102.62 & $1200 from the Honolulu Biki bike share program! I called Biki and they said the charges were for a lost bicycle and 2 days of riding time accumulated. I never received a phone call, text, email or letter regarding the missing bicycle or the charges. The bike was found two days later by a Biki employee at the same dock I'm certain I stationed it. I'm still charged the $1200 for the missing bike + $102.62 for the bicycle being in my possession for two days. Biki manager says they can't refund charges over 2 months old. Unbelievable! Ever since we saw the bike racks going up around town we have been excited for the bike share! Yes! Finally! We were so eager to try it that we gathered up our usual weekly 'running' crew to ride bikes around ala moana park instead. It costs $3.50 for each 30 increment and so we all decided we would do a lap around the park for 30 minutes since $7 for an hour seemed like a lot. We set off and were pleasantly surprised with the bikes! The ride was smooth and comfortable and the bikes were easy to use! We were also impressed with the number of stations in the park! How convenient!!! As we noted that our half hour was almost up, we returned our bikes at the closest stand we could find. Everyone was raving about how much fun it was and ways that we might use the bikes in the future. Two weeks later we noticed that we had two charges for our bikes and that the second charge was for a overage charge! Someone in our group found out that her charge was for being 7 minutes over! If we were planning to ride for an hour we would have bought a pass! Overall it was fun until we noticed the extra charge. My friends tried using their pre-paid credit in Waikiki, and couldn't get their bikes out of the rack. They called customer service for help, to no avail, and wound up walking. Frustrating! I have seen full racks and empty racks, both of which are problematic. Too expensive for Hawaii residents! Awe: NO Kamaiana discount for locals. It's partially a For Profit company. Sometimes, however, the biki payment stations don't work (hence 4 stars instead of 5) in which case you must utilize the Biki application to reserve a bike. Purchased two 24 hr passes for Biki bike. Supposed to be able to use multiple 30 min intervals during the 24hr period. Used the bikes once and then could not get additional uses with the code. Was forced to walk back from the beach with my wife. Called the office to complain andd they said it is necessary to reenter your credit card with each 30 min interval. ??? Where do they communicate that info and why would I reenter my credit card when I have already paid for the use. Spent $24 for one 30 min use. My husband and I rented the Biki bikes by Ala Moana shopping Center/ Park. We did 30 minute rentals and rode through the canal areas and through the back areas of Waikiki. The only drag was that the cost was $3.50/30 minutes. (I live in the SF Bay Area and our community bikes are $1.00/hour and no docking station is required.) overall, the bike ride through the city was nice and the bikes are sturdy and easy to use. read more

Biki has really changed my life. Background, wife and I are 60+ and have lived in Honolulu (Chinatown) for 20 years. We are soon to retire and go back to our mainland home however my wife now refuses to move unless there's a Biki equivalent. Although we own a car and two bikes, we use Biki for everything possible. The Biki bikes are fabulous and I find them more comfortable than the commuter bike I own. We both commute to work on them. Our car is rarely used now and we joke about remembering where we parked it. Our gasoline consumption has dropped 90% and my body weight has dropped 10%. We just put our two bikes up for sale on Craigslist. Besides shopping and commuting to work we enjoy a weekly around Diamondhead ride (the low gear on these bikes make them great hill climbers) and on weekends we go bar hopping, get wasted and Uber home. My only caveat is wear a helmet. Although Honolulu motorists are the kindest in the US, things happen and helmets save lives. Thanks Biki for a great ride! read more

TIPS for new users: 1) Sign up via the gobiki.org website - it is better and ZERO hassle than using the kiosk or the phone app. Your info goes straight into the Biki system and you are ready to go. Also helps to do this before you head out the door so you don't look like a newbie at the kiosk. 2) RESEARCH the fare and available plans and decide which plan fits your planned use and budget. I chose the $15 monthly plan which includes unlimited 30 minute rides. That is cheaper than a monthly BUS pass! After signing up I received my very own Biki pass in the mail two days later. I use my Biki pass and insert it in the card slot to unlock a bike from the station. 3) When you are ready to unlock a bike at a station, check to make sure the bike is in working order. No flat tire, seat is properly adjusted. Secure your belongings using the bungee cord. 4) When returning a bike at a docking station, make sure the front wheel goes in the dock all the way in and wait for the Green light. This means the bike is now locked and no longer under your responsibility. I will usually try to tug on the bike to make sure it really is locked. 5) Before you head out, study the Biki station locations via the gobiki.org website or the Biki app. This will help you decide how Biki will help make navigating and planning your stops. read more

My brother and I decided to use Biki bikes to bike from our hotel to the Diamond Head Trail Monument Trail Head, about a 20 minute bike ride from our hotel. When we were finished with our bikes, we dropped them off at a nearby station and locked them back up. About an hour or so later when he and I were 4 miles away from the bike station, a Biki employee calls us telling us the bike is not locked and is continuously charging us. We called nearby restaurants to see if one of their generous employees would walk out to the bike station to lock up our bikes, but when one employee went out, they said all the bikes were locked. My brother called Biki once again and asked if there was anything else wrong other than the bike was not locked. The Biki employee said the bike was locked but still charging us and there was nothing we could do about it. WTF, that's BS. So my brother and I finished our hike and ubered over to the bike station to check it out, but all the bikes were locked, including the ones we had used. We called the Biki employee back and asked, and he finally told us that all was fine and we were done being charged. So I wasted $10 on an Uber to figure that out that could've just been communicated through a phone call, or the worker's could've had enough competence to figure it for themselves instead of at our discretion. This company is awful at communicating and has an even worse customer service team. I would never recommend renting bikes from this company to anyone. read more

Got a call at 7pm tonight asking if I wanted a key card. I said sure but can you please explain. The person on the other line clearly flustered by me wanting an explanation reluctantly spat out what it was far. Look I get it. Listen Biki reps. Please notify your customer service reps who decide to call at 7pm they should be and remain polite as they are calling as Im about to sleep in for the evening. Finally, bike share in Honolulu and I'm loving it! The bikes are much lighter -weight than systems I've used in Chicago and Paris. The membership card is a convenient way to use Biki. With TheBus slow and unpredictable, Biki is a great alternative for short trips. I will easily make up the Biki membership cost in saved TheBus fares. Docking stations are generally well-placed, but Biki can improve the spacing, and hopefully will. For example, there is an absence of docks around Ward Centers, which is a logical location. All in all, Biki is off to a great start. I will rarely take TheBus or walk downtown again. And it's fun! read more

I would NOT recommend Biki rentals. Fee after fee after fee. We rented 2 bikes from the kiosk and paid the initial $7. We had to use the code on a couple different bikes before we actually got 2 that unlocked. We took them out for 1.5 hours and were charged an additional $22. At the kiosk I was told there would be a security deposit of $50 ($25 per bike) When I went to check my online banking I was charged $130. Extremely unsatisfied with this service. The bikes are convenient but when you have issues, that's when things get bad, REALLY BAD. They claim I didn't dock my bike correctly even though I saw the yellow light turn green - which I consider a system malfunction. So until the bike gets returned, they automatically asses you a trip overrun of $200 and then $1200 gets AUTOMATICALLY DEDUCTED from your account. For something that wasn't even my fault! They tell me there's nothing they can do until the bike is returned. So frustrating! I will edit this review if and when the bike is returned to see how they handle things, but for now, it's just really frustrating. read more

I've been using Biki for about a year, and most of the time it's smooth sailing. I use the unlimited 30-minute rides plan, which is perfect for getting home from work. I also love not having to worry about bike maintenance or storage, and about 90% of the time I don't have any trouble finding a bike and/or space at a docking station. My biggest issue with Biki is their approach to addressing unreturned bikes. Yesterday I biked home and docked my bike around 5:30pm. However, around 9:15pm I received a courtesy call from Biki asking why my bike wasn't docked. This call came nearly four hours after I had docked, which is far past my 30 minute cut off time. It's also plenty of time for someone else to have rented the bike, making it harder to track down. I told the staffer that my bike had been docked, but after a quick system check the staffer said that, if this was true, their system wasn't registering it. This has happened to me once before, at the same station. I was also informed that unless/until the bike was successfully noticed by the system I would be charged a late fee, and a missing bike fee of $1,200 if the bike didn't show up soon. The staffer suggested that I check the docking station for the bike, and provided a registration number. My husband and I hurried to the station and, luckily, found the bike. While I was lucky enough to not incur any fees this time, I find it disconcerting that other reviewers have had similar bike-docking mishaps, sans a courtesy call to alert them that something is amiss. Courtesy calls should be standard operating practice for Biki, not an exception. They should also occur within an hour or two of a rider going over their allotted time, not four hours later. read more

Terrible service. Remember riders that when you don't dock the bike right you'll get and over charger for the time the bikes not placed in the dock right. And then they blame you for it because the locking mechanism is not working properly also beware or it's your lose and they won't help you with that it being your fault. read more
