Creepy!!! Married instructor "Aaron" walks around shirtless and barefoot in spandex overly short volleyball type shorts while continuously staring at women's breasts during our yoga positions. He leans over you to get a closer look at your "form" while intentionally dripping his sweat all over you. The other instructor was nice & welcoming, but AVOID Aaron. The studio is carpeted (unhygienic) and unfortunately the smell and sound of prior strangers' sweat squelching underneath your yoga mat is an extremely unpleasant. This studio is spacious and I really would have liked a better experience, but will not be back due to Aaron's lewd behaviour and poor attitude. read more

Tldr: unsanitary, poor value, negative atmosphere. Cons: The yoga area floor is carpet and so it's always wet with sweat. Weird membership policy: pay $465 every three months, no option to pause under any circumstances (so if you injure yourself on day one, you loose the $465). They offer showers, but dont have towels or soap; feels super budget despite the high price point. The class style is 'militaristic': teacher are shouting, snapping and clapping with an aggressive urgency. These people could not be less interested in the core of yoga (focus on breath, presence etc, they are instead trying to make the atmosphere a high energy workout club. Even in this they fail, as the vibe is not fun and energizing but instead feels like everyone is stressed). The atmosphere is strangely non-yoga (everyone who works here is jittery and wired, like they are chugging caffeine and snorting adderall). There are only a few props for yin classes, and they are inadequate and unsanitary (a few tiny, sweaty bolsters, and sweaty wet blocks). Basically this is the worst yoga studio I've ever been to, and recommend you travel to Portland for hot yoga. They nickel and dime while charging luxury rate in a dirty studio with stressed out staff. read more

The owner Dara claimed bankruptcy and took money of prepaid membership and ran. Not picking up phone calls. The new owner says she doesn't carry dara's liabilities and hence will not honor any membership prepaid. So as consumers, we are f***ed. Understand covid is hard for everyone. I totally dig the warmth and heat. The instructors are nice and knowledgeable. If you don't like repetition then I don't recommend any bikrham studio. It is based on the same 26 postures in the same order. I personally like the consistency of that so in the sweltering hot room I am not concentrating on too much. It also makes it easier to help improve those poses. There is no soothing yoga style music, just the heat and the yogini. I dig the simplicity of it all and the studio is simple and clean. If you are down for the hot yoga and want to go make sure to bring a towel or two. One for your mat and one for your sweat. Drink a lot of water before and after and don't eat anything heavy before working out. read more

I love this Hot Yoga Studio. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable. They offer traditional Bikram Hot Yoga, Hot Pilates, and Yin Yoga. The heat loosens the joints and intensifies the workouts for maximum results. They offer a wealth of classes and times to fit anyone's schedule. I have practiced here over 5 years. I have enjoyed seeing the studio grow and flourish. Yoga has improved my life dramatically. I credit my ability to survive in this crazy world to my yoga practice. Located about a mile north of Hwy 14 (164th exit), Bikram Yoga Vancouver is easy to get to and has ample parking. I found the studio and restrooms to be very clean, the classes start and end on time, and the instructors are knowledgeable and caring. Bottled water and yoga mats are available for purchase/rent if you forget yours. My husband and I participated in a free trial offered at Bikram Yoga - $10 for 14 days. I wasn't sure I wanted to do it but found myself intrigued by the combination of two things I enjoy - yoga and saunas. So I went. Day one was grueling. Fifteen minutes into the session, I became nauseous, dizzy and weak, feelings that lasted throughout the 90 minute class. I fought the urge to bolt from the room. Instead, I followed the instructors' encouragement to sit or lie down for as long as I needed. When the 90 minutes was over, I was certain I'd never return. But I did, the next day. Day two. I thoroughly hydrated all morning and stopped eating 3 hours before the class start time. Although I felt some weakness during the class, I didn't experience nausea or dizziness at all. I did sit some, but participated in over half of the positions. Another new student became overwhelmed. Upon insisting to leave the room, the instructor stopped the class to walk her out to the lobby and went out several times to make sure she was alright before letting her leave the building alone. After class I felt like I'd had a thorough workout, was glad I'd given it another shot, and was looking forward to returning. Day three was great. I was able to do most of the 26 positions without sitting or stopping, was surprised at the level of flexibility and depth of breathing I had achieved in just a few days, noticed many common aches and pains I'd had were gone, and just felt stronger. Most of all, I was proud of myself for doing such a rigorous 90 minute workout, something I didn't believe was possible beforehand. I don't think Bikram Yoga is for everyone. It is very strenuous, and requires a lot of inner resolve to get to the fabulous benefits it offers. Those few days, I saw teens, young adults, middle-aged folk, and some 60+ year olds in the class, so there's something there for all ages. It's easier for some to be negative, rather than to admit it's just not for them. I decided not to continue with Bikram because I don't feel like it's for me. But I do recommend it to others so they can try it for themselves and decide. My advice: Do a trial period. Bring a towel and/or yoga mat. Hydrate well prior to class and only a little during class. Stop eating 3 hours before your class start time. Each day (and instructor) is a bit different, so give yourself 3-5 days to see how you feel. If your schedule allows, don't skip days (go consecutively). Listen to YOUR body rather than rely on someone else's experience. read more

While the studio is beautiful and modern, the quality of instruction is inconsistent. In general, teachers rarely address students by name or leave the podium to offer adjustments. Unfortunately, I have seen teachers ignore students who are clearly getting in and out of postures dangerously, like not grabbing heels in camel or turning the head in rabbit. It's scary to see people doing things that could really hurt themselves just a mat away! After feeling uncomfortable with two separate instructors, I expressed my concern to the owner, Erica, and asked to see the schedule of who was teaching when, so I could take class from instructors I felt safe with. She told me that variety was an important part of Bikram and that they did not allow students to see the schedule in advance. While some teachers have been just fine, Erica seems to care more about upholding her studio policy than making sure yogis feel safe in class. I would never recommend it to a student new to Bikram--the quality of instruction is just not there. Very sad that these guys put Fire Mountain Yoga up Mill Plain out of business, It was a grungy little place, but the teachers were experienced and attentive. read more

First of all, the other reviews are extremely unfair. I am at this studio 3-5x/week and LOVE it. This is the ONLY true Bikram approved hot yoga studio in Vancouver. All of the instructors must pass an intense 9-week training prior to certification. They learn the anatomy, biology, and kinesiology of the postures to provide the safest and most effective session daily. Obviously each teacher will have a different training style because they are not robots and have their own wonderful personalities. Some teachers are tougher than others, and some make class extremely fun, but they all follow the dialogue as Bikram has intended so each class is consistent. Don't just give Bikram hot yoga one, two, or even three tries. Give it an honest effort 5-10 times before deciding it's not for you. This studio offers a variety of rates, including Pay What You Can every Friday at 6:30pm and the 3rd Saturday of every month is free to new students. The owner wants everyone to experience the benefits of hot yoga, even if you're on a budget. So, don't believe those other awful reviews! I bought the groupon and I am really happy with the studio. I have been practicing Bikram for 4 years and I like the studio. The room itself is really beautiful no stink clean carpet and it never feels over the top hot compared to some studios I have practiced in. I believe they have a really great air intake. I have practiced with a few of the instructors and Sean Hall is great. I had one teacher that was a bit much I don't care for peppy clapping while I'm doing yoga maybe for a spin class. I think the only faults I can find is the lack of a water bubbler I know selling bottles of water is profitable but I think the majority brings a bottle and it would be nice to fill it outside of the bathroom since the restrooms are in high demand. Second fault the bathrooms could be a bit cleaner we are walking barefoot and it doesn't seem like they are maintained throughout the day. I could go to any studio and find a few things wrong this studio is really wonderful. I have seen a few reviews where people are just being ignorant. They lock the front door so no one wanders in and steals your stuff during class not to keep you captive. As far as encouraging you to stay that is their job and its your job to be in tune with your body. When you start to feel overwhelmed or can no longer breathe through your nose calmly SIT DOWN. I see so many people who just ignore the teachers words they are silly and are eventually going to hurt themselves. It is truly a life long practice and the sooner you slow down and listen to your body the sooner you will see improvements. read more

The Bikram yoga is the only style for me. It is more than yoga but there was never any religious teachings here either. As a Christian that was my first concern, so it was absolutely fantastic that I could enjoy this practice at this studio. I agree that the instructors have different styles; but my advise would be to go to different time classes and find out what type of instructor is best for you and then go to those classes so you get the most out of it! The owner is really down to earth and keeps the studio exceptionally clean. The schedule offers a lot of times as well so you can't make an excuse for missing :) Hope this helps someone! read more

***almost immediately after writing this review, the studio director reached out and offered multiple ways to make this right. In no way is this review a reflection on the entire staff or the quality of service the rest of the staff offer*** I am sad to be writing a negative review, but I am hoping by doing so it at least changes this specific instructors attitude toward clientele. The main reason for this review is the just plain rude and disrespectful demeanor of their instructor Willow. My first contact with Willow was my first day visiting the studio. I walked in and Willow just stared at me and had an extremely irritated look on her face. I asked if she was tired to which she huffily replied "no just waiting for people to show up". Still no greeting, no "hi I'm Willow what can I do for you?". Instead I introduced myself and told her I was a new student. Still no warm regard. I explained that I just wanted to come by and fill out anything necessary before I begin class and I explained I had already purchased my package on the studio's app. Willow rudely replied that she didn't know what I was talking about because they don't have an app and asked if I bought a groupon. No, not a groupon, I bought my package through the app. Willow continued to argue with me and insist they don't have an app. I pulled up the app on my phone and she finally showed some sign that maybe she was more than ice cold, a chuckle and an "oh, good to know!". Fast forward, I took a class with Willow and during tree she stopped what she was saying and looked at me and rudely and sarcastically asked if I had an injury...in front of the entire class. I'm not sure if this is the Bikram way but why on earth would I disclose anything about an injury in front of a room of strangers? Especially in response to someone who has not shown an ounce of warm regard. I replied no, because luckily I am not injured but I am also not yet able to do the correct form of her type of tree so I modify it to what is right for me and my body. Willow replied with something to the effect of well why aren't you trying it the right way then? I explained myself, which now I wish I had just left the class because why am I explaining myself to someone who I am paying? I do not pay to do yoga so that you can feel good about yourself Willow. If this was a concern of hers she could have asked me after class. I was embarrassed, irritated, and distracted for the rest of the class. However, I still tried to be nice to her when I left that day, I simply said thank you to which she coldly replied "you're welcome" like she had done me some kind of favor by doing her job. I was looking for something more along the lines of a "my pleasure! Have a good evening" - as someone who has worked in the service industry I do not feel that is too much to ask. I immediately canceled all of the classes I had booked and decided to forfeit the rest of my month of unlimited yoga because I refuse to patronize that kind of behavior. I really REALLY wanted to like this place. It's close, a brand new facility and the prices are something I can actually handle on a teacher's salary. However, one particular instructor had such frenetic energy, it seemed like a sporting event with the announcer chirping loudly.... NON-STOP. I've been practicing yoga here since May and I have been thoroughly pleased with this hot yoga center. I am a little stunned by some of the reviewers here mentioning stinky carpets, unfriendly atmosphere, and rude/unhelpful teachers. I have been in sessions with a variety of instructors and not one of them have I considered them arrogant or oblivious to students' needs. They all have various styles and personalities, which is the beauty of it. Also, I had a c-section and I was grateful that the instructors would advice me on modified poses. Then I subsequently hurt my shin and again I got recommended adjusted poses from the instructor -- one of the best advice was from Mary Ellen. And stinky carpets? You gotta be kidding me. I think the only STINK I ever experienced was from my overly noxious neighbor who ate too many onions. I'm actually really glad that they utilize carpets in this yoga center providing a safe, skid-free floor to perform poses on. I've been to bikram yoga centers where they have creaky fans and old rubber flooring which is a catastrophe in itself. At least everything functions properly here and they maintain a clean facility. I also appreciate that the instructors recognize new students by name before class begins and at the end of class by applauding them for staying and trying. I'm looking forward to continuing my practice here at this hot yoga center. read more

I would also give a zero for customer service. I frequent bikram and non-heated yoga classes often. I am visiting from California and decided I would continue my program and try out the new studio. When I walked in, I signed up, and while she (the teacher - mary ellen) wasn't exactly warm she wasn't terribly rude either. What really got me going and caused me to leave class early (even though its made very clear they don't want you to) was her lack of compassion and/or instruction. Most of the standing poses she was teaching required our arms be lifted above our heads - something that was very difficult for me because my shoulder was hurt. I tried getting her attention SEVERAL times to which she just flat out ignored me... I am not experienced enough to know exactly what adjustments I need to make to cater to my hurt shoulder, and was hoping that she could find a spare moment while everyone was in their poses to come and give me a slight adjustment or recommendation. Instead, she acted as if I didn't exist, despite the raising of my arms or the eye contact I tried to give her. She continued giving instruction to others and acting like I didn't exist. We come to CLASS taught by a TEACHER so that we can better our practice and so that they can pass on their knowledge to prevent further injury. Instead, I ended up with a shoulder hurting so bad that I was crying. I don't expect her to drop everything and ruin the flow of the class to cater to me- however, it would have been nice if she at least acknowledged I needed her and found a moment in between to come and see what I needed. I simply laid flat on my mat from that point forward so as to not injure myself more and so that I didn't disrupt the other students by leaving or bringing attention to myself. She continued to ignore me, even though I was obviously in pain, up until she decided she wanted to call me out by name to tell me to "Please move the way I just asked everyone to move on their mats." Um, excuse me?! Maybe if I had received some attention earlier, I would be doing what the rest of the class was doing - however, I was hurt and taking it easy on myself because I didn't want to further injure myself without the adjustments. I heard you ask - you didn't have to repeat yourself specifically to me. I chose to do continue laying because I was listening to my body like a true yogi needs to. I walked out after that instead of moving the way she requested. I know she saw me trying to get her attention and chose to ignore me. So if I want to lay there and nurse my shoulder, I can. Not to mention her coming after me and blankly staring while saying "well then you should take it easy" That's exactly what I was trying to do until you requested I participate!! I've come across a few "yogis" who have a certain arrogance about them and she was definitely one of them. Sorry, but you're not that great of a teacher. A great teacher to me is someone who gives positive and loving attention to their students. Thanks for wasting my 20 bucks bikram yoga vancouver! If you are looking for a true learning experience then don't waste your time coming to her class. While the flow is nice and she was obviously knowledgeable of the practice, the most important thing to me is teachers who care and want their students to be in healthy poses for their bodies. I can't speak for the other teachers as I have not been to their classes. As far as the studio goes - its clean and modern. the only thing I can complain about the studio is that the classroom is carpeted, and as a result of people sweating profusely on the carpet, it stinks. I bought an awesome groupon for this place and I heard the Bikram Yoga was a great form of exercise. In terms of the facility, it looks top notch. My only complaint is that in addition to the room being hot and humid it has an odd smell to it. My boss pointed out that it probably has to do with the fact that the room is carpeted and people are sweating on it. I'm not a germophobe so that doesn't freak me out, but it is something to get used to in addition to it being hot and humid. In terms of the instructors, it is really hit or miss. I can't speak for everyone, but Bikram is already so challenging I need an instructor that I can understand and that speaks clearly and slowly. Some of the instructors speak so quickly that I almost get lost in what they are saying so I can't do the move they want. I really enjoyed my class with Mica. That class went so fast and I felt I did the best. She just spoke so clearly and calmly. Overall, I do enjoy this place. The times suck for me, but I do leave feeling great and it is a great workout! read more

Nice studio with variety of teachers. Teachers do not make corrections to student's forms very much (one red haired teacher is the exception and gives great advice on alignment). Showers, but in women's showers, there are some people who must think they are at home and stay in there for at least 5 minutes while others are lined up waiting. Would like to see a sign indicating to people to limit their showers to just a few minutes. Lots of class times, but would like a 6 a.m on the weekends, especially with summer coming. Always nice to be able to get your yoga in early and have the rest of the day to enjoy! Clean studion with the exception of the curtains hung on the women's changing room. Seriously need washing and also do not close very well for privacy. read more

Erika was my instructor for the class I attended. At first I was bent out of shape over how she called me out in front of the class. But then I realized I was the one putting myself on stage. I was being loud with my friends, giggling, telling jokes and making noises. She called me out because she knew I had it in myself to go further than what I was actually accomplishing. I did a trial and went everyday of it. I had a blast and was seriously considering joining! Bikram hot yoga is where its at. I decided to start hot yoga and I know you're supposed to be there 15 mins before class. I showed up 20 mins before class and the doors were closed. Yesterday a friend of mine showed up before time and people were in the lobby, the door was closed and nobody even bothered to let her know if she was late or acknowledge her in any way. When you first start hot yoga it seems totally different from any kind of excercise experience you've ever had. It is a test of your inner strengh, not just your muscle strength. After a few weeks I am hooked. i notice improvements every time. At first I looked around and compared my performance to others... but in time you learn to focus in on yourself. For me personally, I am a free bird so the rules and ordered sequence is a perfect counter ballance to my personality. I extra love knowing what to expect and when you get to the final pose you feel like shouting, "Oh what a feeling! Toyota!" like on those old commercials. Before I started coming to Yoga I knew something was "off" about me. My clothes were too tight and I just felt like crap. Well that has started changing. Slowly but surely. The differences in the instructors personalities lend a new twist on each class. You learn sometihing new from each one of them. I strongly reccomend it... It's worth the $$$ and time commitment. Also, when you think about it you are using your own body as resistance so if you have extra lbs to lose it makes the poses that much harder and promotes appropriate shedding of extra weight based on your extra hard work! I have been doing yoga for years and I absolutely hated this place. It's not because I am incapable of doing yoga, but I just really disliked the people and the whole atmosphere. I felt very judged by the other people there and especially the instructor (who made me feel awful for having to leave early). I have had three instructors, all which introduced themselves and put on fun and challenging classes. Kirsten has been my instructor for most classes and her upbeat attitude makes time fly. Been practicing Bikram yoga for over 5 years. This studio is by far the best studio I've been too. The studio's clean, the people are friendly and the teachers are very helpful. The teachers are available before and after class to take individual questions. Bikram yoga is different from other yoga classes. The teachers don't demonstrate the postures. It's up to you to listen to the teacher's step by step directions and do what you can. You get what you put in to the practice. read more

I had never been to hot yoga prior to this visit, I went with a friend who had called the studio prior to us arriving for class they told her I could try the class for free for the first time so i could then decide if hot yoga was for me. After class i was pressured into buying a package and was told their was no such thing has a free class it was 20.00 bucks or 35.00 bucks. I feel like the female instructor was rude and very pushy felt pressured and pretty much wasted 35.00 on a class that was not for me. Communication was horrible. i bought a deal on living social (or groupon), and since this is the only bikram studio i've tried i don't have much to compare it to, but i have a strong love/hate relationship with this practice. LOVES: it's an awesome, intense, full-body workout. it challenges me. i feel so great when it's done--there's a feeling of being purified by sweating that much (it's a LOT of sweat), and the aches that i might have afterward are proper (not staggering). the teachers are knowledgable, encouraging, and give good tips to help you get into the positions. erika (the owner) is really nice, and also a great instructor. i love that this studio participates in ways to make classes more affordable (groupon, living social, community classes and a pay-what-you-can class once a month). i feel really proud of myself after attending class and making it through. the not-so-greats: it's pretty expensive at normal pricing. the first class drained me for an entire day (but i was feeling much better around the third class, after going for consecutive days). the energy/teaching style of some instructors is more gentle and forgiving than others--this seems to have a significant impact on the perceived difficulty of that class. when classes are really full, the oxygen level in the room feels like it drops dangerously low--it's hard to breath in the heat, and even more difficult if there's not enough O2, which makes the difficulty level skyrocket. it's a big time commitment, which can make attending class hard. once i'm in class, i always appreciate it, but it can be a struggle finding the motivation to go. it's definitely not for everyone, but if you try it, go more than once (10 consecutive days is recommended, and i agree)--you'll thank yourself for hanging in there. read more

It was one of the hardest things I've done in my life. Outstanding studio with state of the art heating and ventilation. Very clean practice area and friendly staff. My old fave closed down (Fire Mountain) so have been giving this studio a try. Like the hours and so far have had great instructors. Only downside is I live in Northwest Vancouver but I can't fault them for the distance so hey, whatcha gonna do in the Couve? Bikram is awesome! I've been taking classes here for the past three years. I've enjoyed all of the instructors so far and they all seem to love what they do. The instructors I have taken classes from have been great, and all have a different personality. Bikram is very addicting . . . It is tough, but it feels so good. I've gone to many Bikram studios and this one is by far the best. I go regularly, so I feel I can provide a fair assessment. The studio is clean. The website is great. The other students are supportive. The instructors are superb, and they care about advancing our practices, as opposed to maintenance or going through the motions. While the instructors follow the dialogue, they are still people with unique styles. The variety is great and I'd recommend trying them all and not getting obsessed with one. Go to class regardless of who is teaching; they all offer something great. Erika has a clear, concise teaching style. Heidi is serious and she means business, but you'll improve with her. Bob is fun, but knows how to captivate and command the class. Elio is fun and positive and leaves nobody out. My husband loves him. Mary Ellen is compassionate and tough. Justin shares interesting stories and his voice is calm. Aaron teaches a solid class. Erik is very experienced and will catch the important details. I would recommend this studio for certain. I'd also advise against making any opinion on the practice or how it is taught for atleast 10 classes. It's a wonderful practice and helps many, many people. read more
