I didn't opt to visit first, had my hub went there for a pick up on a weekend. It was very closed to their closing time, so not much left. But hubby was able to get Fruit Tart, Flan cup, Tiramisu cup, and Bavarian Donut. I loved everything except the Bavarian Donut, it was a little too dry for me. After trying some of their bakery items, I knew I have to go and dine in. We decided to stop by today and went relatively early. We got there around 8:30ish, and WOAH, plenty of selections. To be honest, I wants one of everything lol. Especially the different mallorcas, they looks especially appetizing! We got some drinks from Zoe's Coffee Bar, they were deeeeelicious!! The second time I went I had the Apple Crumb Sticky Bun and the Sticky Bun Bread Pudding (no photos). I loved the apple crumb sticky bun. It was by far the best dessert I had of the three I tried. It was so good I did not share that with my kids who were plotting on my good. The bread pudding was my least favorite so that was shared. I was hoping for more flavor. I didn't get much of a sticky bun flavor. There's many more sweets I want to try so I will be back to sample those.

Many of the ready to eat offering s are prepared in the stores kitchen by authentic cooks representing the various regions. I am here an average of once a week to supplement any cooking we do at home with fresh made salads, such as their Korean Carrot salad, their seaweed salad, and especially the smoked turkey lunch meat, as I cannot find this type of smoked turkey in any local supermarket. My kids love their puff pastries stuffed with ground chicken or potatoes. These make for a great snack or quick breakfast before school. Out of all the same type stores in our region, and there are plenty of them, Holland tends to be the freshest, make the best food, and offer the highest quality best tasting prepared foods. They are not the cheapest but for me they offer the best value. At times some of the staff can be, let's say, less than pleasant (hence the star off), especially if you don't know what you want or they have a tough time communicating with non Russian speaking patrons. However, I would not be too intimidated to come here if you don't speak Russian. Most of the signs are in English and you can point to what you want and tell them how much (just like a deli in any supermarket). I know I do that at Asian markets where I don't speak the language. As for being too sensitive to some of their personality (again, not often, but I have experienced it too), try not to be too sensitive, you are here for the food, which is well worth it. At those times, just pretend you are in NYC. They have a nice bread section here. Many times the breads are still warm from baking- yum! Many breads get delivered from Brooklyn too, If the whole loaf of bread is not too warm, you can take it to the counter and they will gladly slice it for you. This store has extensive candy, desert, jarred and pickled veggies from around Eastern Europe as well as farmers cheeses and European juices. All in all, please don't be intimidated to come here. If you have a difficult time with the language, ask for one of the managers and have them assist you. You will not regret the quality of foods offered here and you will most likely!
