This shop is adorable and well stocked. We encountered it while acquainting ourselves with the area of our Airbnb. In addition to a large deli with prepared food and standard grocery options, this market had an expansive assortment of foods and items imported from Ireland. Heaven! My wife is from N Ireland and it is so hard finding her favorite foods and snacks... Chocolate buttons, HP sauce, Salad cream, Tayto, GLUTEN FREE soda bread!!, plus bangers, black pudding and white pudding... Not to mention all of the other items that they stocks. I moved in a few doors down from O'Neill's recently, and I gotta tell you it's great having such a cute little shop so close to home. They have a nice selection of prepared foods: soups, sides, meats for my lazy girl dinner nights. The deli section is the main attraction for me though. All different types of deli salads available and they're so much better than the ones you get at chain grocery stores. They also have a nice selection of imported foods from the UK! All the staff I've interacted with have been so nice too. Can you get things cheaper elsewhere? Yeah... But supporting iconic local businesses is really cool if you're financially able. A staple in the community. This cute little village grocery market has a great selection of meats, produce, pantry, prepared meals, dairy, and European imported foods. You have to admire how petite this store is, because in England and Ireland grocery stores are typically this size! When you don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle of Giant or Whole Foods, this little market is sure to have all the things you need. They don't have a lot of USDA organic products, but they make up for that with fresh food and customer service. The prices are a little higher on some products compared to Giant, but overall I think they're about the same. read more

I recently move to King of Prussia but I still travel down the turnpike to shop at O'Neill's especially for Irish products. There Irish soda bread is the best this side of Ireland. There is a secret in Glenside and I am about to let you in on it. But first a little background. Now I shop mostly at Whole Foods or Trader Joes and try to do the organic and healthy thing wherever I can afford it. But sometimes I just want something like good, old fashioned, bad for you New Yorker cheese or a potato hamburger roll or non recycled paper towels, you know? And I really find shopping at the huge mega plex Acmes and Giants a nightmare - trying to navigate those sprawling, icy behemoths that have way too many choices, under the glare of florescent lighting, waiting in long lines, masses of people racing about, kids screaming. I literally feel sick when I leave these stores and a couple times on weekends long past I have just left my cart and walked out. So thankfully I have O'Neils market nearby; a small, cute old fashioned grocery with just 5 or so short aisles that contain everything a big store does, just not so many choices. They have a good deli counter with delicious potato salad they make there in the store. Most of the employees are teens and are quite amazingly polite and friendly and (gasp!) helpful. You would think this would be bounty enough but wait, it gets better! Here is the secret.... Color me thunderstruck as I turned my head left one day while passing the meat case and saw an entire endcap jammed full of Irish/British imports! Things like Irish oatmeal, tins of golden syrup, gravies, cookies or rather biscuits as they are known across the pond, marmite, cans of mushy peas, boxes of Irish tea - and yes, you can buy these kinds of items already at most places but these are literally the UK brands. But what really swiveled my head was the candy, ye gads, could it be true? Right here in lil old Glenside I had hit UK candy nirvana! Colorful piles of Smarties, Maltesers, Cadbury Milk, Lion and Flake bars to name a few caught my wide eyes like a drunk spotting a bottle of scotch at a tea party. (And if you don't understand why inexpensive UK chocolate is better then inexpensive US chocolate search out the article the NY Times wrote about it last year.) And considering they are imported, an amazing bargain with most at only $1 - $1.25 each. They seem to get a shipment every couple of weeks or so and sell out quickly so if I go and the candy is in stock I pile up, usually while humming either "Hail Britania" or "Danny Boy", depending on my mood. The polite teen at the register fortunately makes no comment about the embarrassingly large pile of Lion and Milk bars as I try to distract them with inane comments about the weather. So now you know the secret in Glenside! read more

Ok here goes. Yeah it's home town. Yeah nuns in mufti shop here and its real. Yeah they have very good home made foods in the refrig case. Yeah they have chips by small local Lancaster producers. Yeah the folks who work here are nice and helpful. Yeah they have what you need, without 5 different brands making for a quicker shopping trip. OTOH the deli slices cheese too thin - a GOOD THING for meat is not for cheese - thin makes it break when you try to peel a slice. The butcher is never there when I am and they often are out of meat items. Parking is ok at night on Easton and I will be honest the back lot is often full - sometimes like when the Keswick is having an event its tough to park... Blows smack-me away and has a heart unlike genuardis/safeway. I shop here, you should too! read more

I've been to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and the Epcot Center of supermarkets....Wegman's. These places have everything gastronomique and more. Great prices, friendly people and a million food choices at the prepared food stations. So why is it that my favorite place to shop for food is little O'Neills Market in Keswick Square? I guess it's like my feeling when I need to buy an item like duct tape. Would I rather go to the Home Depot and search down mega-aisles and wait in long lines or would I just go to the local True Value and spend the extra quarter and have the shopkeeper walk me directly to the duct tape? In short, I like going to the local place and spending my money there. I also like being able to walk through the entire store in about ten minutes and grab everything I need. Since O'Neils is relatively small, you would think it would be lacking in selection. It won't compete with Wegman's on that front, but it does have everything I need, and that's what's important. Plus, they have some surprising items, like English/Irish foods and a super-good prepared section. Really feels like the stuff is homemade. The prepared foods at Wegman's or Whole Foods just doesn't taste that way. Other pluses to O'Neils--friendly staff, you could eat off the floors (I've done that with a spilled tub of Kozy Shack Tapioca in aisle four), and a good seasonal selection. This place has a loyal clientele and great community vibe without seeming too precious or preachy (Hello Weaver's Way). I think it's the warmest place to shop for food in the area. And they sell Spotted Dick. read more

Ever watch Gilmore Girls? Glenside has it's own Doose's in O'Neil's! That is how cool Glenside is. If only I lived closer to this little mom & pop's grocer, I surely would spend more money here, and less at Genuardi's and other big names. But alas, if I have to drive somewhere, and Doose's, er, I mean, ONeil's is a drive away, I will end up at some big name box just to save a couple duckets and ensure I get everything I need. The only complaint I have is the parking which isn't that fun, and which is why I'd stick to walking here. The dream is to move closer to this spot some day, and buy my own little shopping cart so I can walk here and back to my house with all my grocery needs. This place does really have it all covered, from produce to dry goods to meat. And the prices are not outrageous, given its size. This is one of the best small markets in SE PA. The deli staff are the best, the are trained and will slice your cold cuts and cheese paper thin. O'neills, what can I say? Everyone I know worked there in high school (several moons ago) and some still do. It's a family at O'neills. It's clean, they have wonderful employees and you are always made to feel welcome when you enter. This is my GO TO place for lunch when I am too lazy to pack any (which is all the time). The chicken salad alone is worth going for. The prepared food section is stocked with many many differnt meals and many different soups. They always have lunch specials and will recommend what is freshest to you. Their catering is also amazing and I've NEVER been disappointed. GO O'Neills!!! read more

Straight up laughed out loud when I read the review from back in '09 about this being Glenside's very own Doose's Market, because that's exactly what I was going to say. I come here at least 2-3 times a week because it's so easy to walk to from my apartment. If I need anything super specific, I'll drive a few extra miles to Giant or Trader Joe's, but for the most part, O'Neill's has everything that we need! The staff is super nice too. We recently moved to the area and I always try to support local businesses so I've really tried to support O'Neill's but it just hasn't worked out. It's a very small store with limited space and they don't have a lot of brands that I like. Initially I tried to ignore that and buy brands that they carry but on a recent trip I decided that I probably won't go back. They carry Dietz & Watson deli products which is okay but I really prefer Boar's Head. On my last visit I ordered a couple of meats and a half pound of cheese. I asked the girl not to slice the cheese very thin. She said okay but just started slicing away without showing me a slice to see if it was okay. Her back was to me and I couldn't see what she was doing but when she handed me the package I could tell the cheese was sliced too thin and told her so. I took the cheese anyway but when I tried to use it it was so thin that the slices wouldn't come apart. It just crumbled and fell apart. I ended up throwing it away. I wrote to the store and told them about my experience and no one even bothered to get back to me. I didn't ask for my money back but what would have been nice would have been a reply acknowledging my email, which I never got. In my opinion that's really poor customer service and when I support a business I expect them to support me too. read more

"a blast from the past." Well stocked neighborhood grocery store whose shelves are filled with almost anything you might need. The pluses include reasonably priced prepared foods (Soups, entrees, salads, etc.); imported foods (Irish, Italian, Mexican) and old-favorite items you don't see in your average large Supermarket (Spam, Deviled Ham, Black Cherry Visnick and Fresca sodas , etc.) My favorite find - Irish Bacon. Parking can be a challenge - but well worth the effort. read more

Great cold cuts with Boar's Head brand, a bit steep in price however for by the 1/2 pound, great homemade soups, as well as the cooked prepared foods, although always the same ones over the years. They never really created any new dishes. My one complaint is from a health standpoint in that the stuffed chicken breast and chicken parm is sometimes rubbery and not cooked through enough. I have had to throw it out as a result. I told the manager about it but it still sometimes occurs. Courteous staff, friendly and warm and you can get in and out fast, unlike the Jenkintown Acme. read more

The only reason I shop here is when I have no way to get to the regular big chain supermarkets. If you live in the area & don't drive, It is a "no other choice" market. It's small, its usually pretty empty so you get stared at like a shoplifter, by the cashiers just standing there waiting to do something. The selection is small, not much to choose from. The store made heat & eat food is BAD, with the exception of penne & chicken, & roasted pork. Even the meatballs are gross, how do you mess up meatballs? They are practically next door to a pretzel store, yet their pretzels are all damp, salt is all melted, & they are either rock hard or soggy. Worst of all is the HIGH PRICES. Those yucky meatballs were $10.50 for 14 in a bowl of red sauce. $4.59 for a 6 count box of popsicles.$7.25 for a 12 pack of choco chip individually wrapped cookies. $5.99 for a bag of Purina cat chow. $3.99 for a family 6 pack of tasty-cakes. Just about anything in this store can be purchased at any Super Walmart for HALF the price. No bargains here, that's for sure. read more

Then I clicked on this web site to get the phone# to order something else and saw your review. So funny! Yes, indeed it is the ONLY potato salad one should eat. I used to have to make my own, But theirs is just as good and always consistant. I stop in almost every single day for something. I LOVE all of their homemade foods to go. O'Neill's is a small, family-owned business in Pennsylvania, and I must say the service, quality of products, and family atmosphere are OUTSTANDING. You're guaranteed to meet at least one member of the family each time you visit, whether for groceries or catering. The quality and amount of food you get for the price can not be beat. All homemade catered foods, for any occasion. I highly recommend giving the homemade caesar dressing a try--it's the best salad dressing I've ever had, and I hear one of the owners makes it himself.
