The food was fine enough to get 3.5 stars. The roast pork was fair but too much jus made the bread too soggy. The service is what this is review is about. The owner, if given the time, will talk your ear off about the chilli. That's fine and all, but then he acts like he's God's gift to the earth about chilli. He handed us samples unprompted which and meant well but my wife doesn't like chilli. We both told him that to his face directly. End of story? Nah, he insisted and insisted that she eat it until she felt uncomfortable and just caved to get him to stop. Fellas, if a woman says no to something and says it isn't something she wants or likes...she isn't going to change her mind just because you think you're special. I stopped in Timmy D's for a recent take out lunch order and I wasn't disappointed. The woman who took my phone order was kind and patient. She answered all of my questions and took it easy on a first timer. When I arrived, I found plenty of private parking behind their building and I thought it was convenient that they have a back and front door. The inside was pretty spacious and clean. They have coolers with drinks. sides and a couple of chip racks. My order consisted of their famous chili (award winning according to their menu), a chicken cutlet on a toasted roll with spinach and sharp provolone and a cheesesteak. They told me the order would take 15 minutes and they were dead on with their estimate. Now to the tasty part, the Filet Mignon chili was outstanding. For me I enjoy a chili that isn't too thin, but not incredibly thick and theirs is right in the middle. Lots of flavor, small lean cuts of meat, soft white and red beans, touch of cheddar cheese, green onions and a peppery/spicy kick from the middle lingering into the finish. Sadly I went with a smaller portion, but I'd go back for some more in a heartbeat. The chicken cutlet sandwich was decent, the breading had a sweetness to it that was a little different, but that wasn't a terrible thing, the roll was fresh (they told me they use a baker that mimics Sarcone's seeded rolls) and the cheese could have been sharper but was acceptable. The cheesesteak was on the same seeded roll .... points to them for not giving me a soggy, drippy, greasy roll .... but the meat was dry so I suppose that dry roll came at a cost. It could have had more cheese mixed in with the chopped meat. It was a slightly above average cheesesteak in my humble opinion. Would I return to Timmy D's? Absolutely! Besides a return trip for the chili, I'd love to try one of their panini's "spicy ultimate" sandwiches or an Italian hoagie. Thanks guys! read more

The food here is always amazing. Will happily make the trip from Vineland to treat myself to one of these hoagies, and of course the chili. Everything is always made fast, great customer service as well. This is the type of place I remember coming to as a child with my family. Stopped in this morning at about 1030am. Ordered a breakfast sandwich. Egg and cheese w/ bacon panini. Decided two minutes later to add a small Italian hoagie for lunch. Bag of chips and a Coke. Staff of 2 was friendly and accommodating. There was another guy just walking out with his order as I arrived. And then I waited. And waited. And I was there 35 minutes for two simple sandwiches with zero other customers and, as far as I can tell, one phone call order. I had to leave for an 1130a meeting 20 mins away and almost rolled without the breakfast sandwich because I couldn't be late. Both sandwiches were GREAT but I'd only go back if there was no time pressure. My mom introduced me to this paces years ago when they were at their first location. It's always spic and span in here for one i love that. Any this place has amazing deli sandwiches that aren't your ordinary hoagies. (Check the menu out). What my favorite thing about is this place is the fresh bread they have everyday. When the bread runs out that's it so get here early unless you want to use a wrap which is also good. But i love a good bread. I get my mom the hot roast pork which she pairs with sharp provolone cheese. Wonderful hoagies, great home made soup, fine sides, and a dearth of deserts beyond some sad cellophane wrapped stuff. What can one say but this place is the real deal. My wife and I shared a Turkey hoagie with no cheese, some pasta salad, and a shrimp bisque soup. The bread was great with a firm almost crispy crust and a good interior with no wonder bread Wawa type soft fluff. The turkey was sliced thin and was a generous serving of flavorful yum with nice onions tomatoes and lettuce topped with good oil and a bit of vinegar with a bite. The soup was tasty with plenty of shrimp. It was six bucks; don't think you are getting down the shore twenty buck soup here. For a take out place the soup was quite delicious and fairly priced. The side, in this case pasta salad was good but not outstanding typical macaroni with assorted veggies so you can tell yourself it's healthy. Right. People both on the phone to order and at the shop were very helpful. If you know the area caddy corner from the Sunoco across church from Dunkin it's busy but there is decent parking in back. We really enjoyed it and at 25 bucks for a hoagie, a pint of soup, and a small side and a tip for the servers...well welcome to the post COVID world. The guys at my job are on a scientific quest to find the best cheesesteak in the North East Philadelphia area, and so far, Timmy D's is my front runner. Known more for its chili, and if you don't believe me, go talk to Timmy D himself; he will extol the virtues of his chili ad nauseam, Timmy D's makes a decent cheesesteak. Although the chili is award winning, and apparently is TImmy D's pride and joy, the samples he gave us to try didn't exactly blow my skirt up. Good chili, nothing earth shattering. The store itself was spacious and clean. A great find close to Hope Lodge. I had read some reviews about a free taster of their chili's and asked about it . And the lady at the counter obliged! But since I don't eat pork I sadly couldn't try it. My father and I walked over for lunch and were very pleased with the what we found! We ordered a turkey hoagie in their famous boar's bread and a turkey salad. The 10" hoagie was so wholesome we didn't even need the salad! Been going to Timmy Ds for years. It is true that this is some if not the BEST CHILLI I have ever had. That is the reason why I keep coming back. The hoagies are good, nothing special. 3 stars instead of 5 because #1 the quality of food is inconsitent. Asking for lite mayo, no onions etc is not garunteed. #2 Staff is great sometimes other times seem clearly messed up. Timmy D is kind of rude but makes great chili so I'll let him slide. This is a unfortunate report. Timmy D's WAS one of my favorite sandwich places for years until yesterday. I ordered 3 sandwiches -( worked all day - didn't eat because i wanted to savor knowing I was having Timmy Ds . There was zero difference between the turkey hoagie and the turkey diablo except they both were bland. My wife got a roast beef hoagie that had more fat than roast beef. Having a brew at nearby Hop Angel I got into a conversation about food(Italian sammies & such) w/ a nice woman. She highly recommended this place, so I decide to check it out. Got a large meatball sandwich which was excellent! From the bread to the sauce, the cheese, the meatballs; nothing but sheer perfection! Two gripes; As a walk in I waited at least 20 minutes. Place was not busy; but staff seemed extremely flustered. Almost asked "Would you like me to jump in & help?" Think they must have had a lot of phone in orders before mine. I have driven by Timmy D's 100 times and I never knew what I was missing until now. You know you're a special place when they 6 different kinds of Italian Hoagies. I had an "Old Fashion" with Prosciutto, Hot Coppa, Hot Sopressata, Sharp Provolone, and Oil/Red Wine Vinegar. It was outstanding. The meat was freshly sliced and the roll was delicious. My girl had a pannini, which she loved. Timmy recognized that we were first-timers and offered us a free sample of his award-winning chili. The chili was too spicy for my girl, but that's not unusual. She rarely eats anything that could be called spicy. For myself, I thought the chili was amazing. Just the right amount of heat, and a distinctive flavor that guarantees I will be going back for more chili soon. If you're in the area and want a great Hoagie, drive right past Wawa and all of the neighborhood pizza parlors. I have been coming here for years and today I witnessed the owner belittle and degrade his staff when the slip clearly stated what it was. He questioned why chicken steak would be on a salad and basically threw the chicken cheesesteak he made at his employee. He then in the back was saying how this request is unreal in 20 years he's never had this and when I grabbed my order he said I have chicken breasts and I stated I prefer it chopped. This review is a bit late but very relevant. We have never been disappointed with our meals from Tommy D's. We even had them cater our daughter's 1-year-old party for about 50 people and every just raves about the sandwiches. They hit the nail on the head. Our favorites are the chicken park sub and chicken fingers with fries. Best. Ever! The guys there are super friendly and helpful even when they're crazy busy. Love Timmy, love his panini's, love the new location. You can eat in at the new location thanks to a few counter seats. The parking situation is greatly improved and you can also now grab some pre-made dinners to bring home. Wait time can still be an issue, but I've yet to have him run out bread, and really...the wait is worth it. The bread is unbelievable, the special sandwiches are unique and the chili is hands down the best chili I've ever had anywhere. They're take-out and street parking only and usually get pretty busy which means sometimes they actually run out of rolls. I live in the neighborhood but stopped in for the first time this past week. I bought two hoagies ($8.25 each) and when they asked me if I wanted a copy of my receipt I said no thanks. That night I checked my bank account and found out they had overcharged me by $10. When I called them to tell them about it the girl who answered the phone just said "Oh". I was at Moss Rehabilitation in Elkins Park to work out a foot injury and Timmy D's deli is just down the road and I called them one evening to order a Italian hoagie for dinner. The advertisement said that they are open until 7pm, and it was only 5pm so I deli safe with plenty of time. Wrong! No one answered the phone and I found out the next day that if they run out of bread they close. I also found out that Timmy D's doesn't deliver either. I was puzzled because among others things, they are located a couple of blocks away from 2 hospitals. Knowing these clues I figured that this guy was pretty independent. The guy that told me about Timmy D's closing when the bread supply running out, had a son visiting him and he was glad to pick up a hoagie for me. Thanks to that young man's kindness, I had a delicious hoagie that evening instead of baked chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes. The hoagie was in a seeded Italian roll with some authentic Italian meats, prosciutto, salami, cappacola, soppersatta and a generous amount of sharp provolone cheese. It was finished off with EVO, lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. The hoagie was fresh, tasty and filling, but to put his sandwich among the elite, he needs to switch out the ice berg lettuce for romaine lettuce, the ice berg lettuce was machine sliced and I can taste the bitterness and dump the white onions and throw in the red Bermuda onions. If you are the type that thinks sandwiches, hoagies, subs or whatever you prefer to call them are good from Wawa or Subway, stop reading right because you're not on this level yet. However, if you have taste buds and enjoy eating delicious foods then try Timmy D's if you are in the mood for some awesome Italian style sandwiches. My personal favorite is a medium "Old Fashioned". The bread, as others have noted is fantastic. It is crusty on the outside and has just the right amount of chewyness (not a word!) throughout. This isn't something that you find in the bread aisle at Acme. Timmy uses quality ingredients and when you walk in, either he or his staff are always busy preparing things. Here's a true story that Timmy himself decided to share with me one day out of the blue, he told me that he goes all the way to somewhere in south Jersey to a local farm to buy certain onions because regular onions are too strong and they throw off the flavor of his sandwiches. That is dedication to your craft. Some people play football, some people are models, I work for Uncle Sam, Timmy D makes good ass sandwiches. The chili is awesome as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not from Texas or somewhere in the midwest where people knife fight over correct chili, but this stuff is flavored nicely, has a generous portion of meat and goes great with that awesome ass bread (see above). It's convenient location on Cottman Avenue, excellent sandwiches and fabulous home made chili would otherwise give it five stars. However, while not overpriced, this place is not a bargain ( at least by Philly hoagie shop standards ). And there is one major annoyance. Towards the end of the day, they seem to frequently run.out of rolls, so no more sandwiches. Also, they really have a habit of closing earlier than posted. I get that this maximizes freshness. They always suggest to call ahead and preorder, but it compromises the convenience grade. read more

The sandwiches are great and the chili is even better. It's my go to for lunch. The staff is always incredibly friendly. They go out of their way to give you what you want.
