So I needed a switch for my convertible. I had backorder one from Jbugs and I call Bill&Steve yo see if they had it. They did and I went to go get it from them. The counter guy was gruff. White goatee ball cap etc. I told him I called earlier and he went in the back to get it. I saw the part and told him that the one in my 74 I was taking apart had an extra terminal . He boasted "ALL SUPER BEETLES FROM 73 ON ARE THE SAME STYLE." Yet I had physical proof that they were. He was dying on this hill. So I bought the part and left. Oh well. read more

Stay away from this place. I honestly am not one to complain but this experience was one to say something about. First off, im not a VW expert, hence I visit these shops since they appear to be the experts in vw parts. First thing you notice when walking in is a heavy set guy sitting all the way to the other end of the counter who doesnt even acknowledge your visit *all while entire store is empty*. (I believe this rude guy is the same guy every negative rating here talks about.) Second, they have reps selling parts without even confirming its the correct part or in working order. Bought a brasol fuel pump ($42) and flange for my vw, and not to make it long, flange was incorrect and had to come back and return it, when installing the fuel pump, car would not start and had to go back again after checking off all possible root causes as well as doing more research online only to find out (jbugs has same pump for $25 and other local shops have it for $30)....well turns out the pump spring action part was no good and was not causing suction. The counter guy *thin guy w/ long hair) acted as if I didn't know what i was doing and proceeded to tell me all the pumps are like that and brought one fresh out of the box and to his surprise, was stiffer at the spring part that the rod pushes up and you can see the embarrassment on his face...either way, he tried to be cool by offering to exchenge it for me which I just told him my experience plus the price I paid pushed me to request a refund instead. He said he would ask the heavy set guy if he could refund but most likely would not be approved. He asked and failed to tell the guy that it was my 2nd time there due to their incompetence and back again due to being oversold on a defective fuel pump, so guy told him NO and told him only exchanges are allowed. I pointed out to the receipt that clearly only says "no refunds on electrical parts", the fuel pump is a mechanical part and clearly defective. As I said that he literally said "I dont care what it says, Im not refunding any money and will exchange it only". Im not gonna continue on about how unprofessional and dismissive his conduct was clearly lacking in any sort of customer service skills, but just say I did not let up and told him id be reviewing this on any and all patforms. NOT for the defective parts themselves because it can happen, but on how his attitude was and how apparently untrained his staff is to sell incompatible items to the applications mentioned during your visit. As a customer who begins to learn the VW platform and scene, id say that these negative experiences dont have any place if customers are paying your salary and keeping you afloat, VW community is usually helpful and very keen to providing a helping hand and knowledge but this is definitely not the case with the people here now. He ended up refunding the amount paid for the fuel pump and his reasoning was to just "get me outta there" instead of acknowledging his own written policies, defective part and lack of customer service skills. I went a few miles down the road and got the same exact part in working order for $12 less and excellent customer service from a person much more knowledgeable and with more years in the business but not acting dismissive about it. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere if you are someone whose new to the scene or someone learning VWs because if you are not up to par with these cars, pricewise, you will get taken advantage of here. read more

My husband caught the Beetle fever. Just this year too. Never before in his life has he been interested in this make or model. Now I love it... It's such a fascinating, mostly simplistic vehicle with an interesting history. Thanks to Bill & Steve's Foreign Auto Parts, though, he doesn't (or in most case "we don't") have to drive all over Los Angeles/Orange Counties or risk online orders to find what he needs. They mainly cater to four different models of VW's: 1) the ever popular Beetle, 2) Bus, 3) Karmann Ghia (but how often do you see those?), and 4) Thing (and I haven't seen many of these lately)... PROS - PARTS IN STOCK: Most items are in stock! True story, though... I posted a picture on Yelp of the roof rack my husband was going to purchase and put on his Beetle AT THE STORE as soon as he did some work and it was sold. I was floored. We found that out on a Sunday. No problem. They ordered him another one. Came in on Wednesday. He had to put it together himself but he did it & had it installed in a half hour. I am certain he'd rather put it together himself anyway just because that's the kind of guy he is. - COMPETITIVE PRICES: Most of everything that we have needed to buy has been lower than, say, JBugs in Oceanside and comparable to prices online especially when you figure in the cost of shipping. - CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly staff. Mostly knowledgable. Very willing to get you what you need & make suggestions. - LOCATION: If you have to drive in from a faraway location or the traffic just sucks, know that there is one fairly large shopping center called Downey Landing across the street with several eateries. Another shopping center is being built close by as we speak (10/5/15) called the Promenade. CONS - Closed on Monday (but open the other 6 days) - You might not get someone as experienced/knowledgable as, say, Steve... SIDENOTE Have you ever noticed the German spelling of "Bettle" instead of "Beetle?" It might not be all models, but I've seen it on our '71. It is not labeled that way on our '69. If I could give a zero start I would, been doing business with them for about 6 yrs already. The only electrical item I purchased here. Only one item, I wasn't able to returned it!! I would say Miguel is very helpful but the other guy, my god!!! I don't know what's up with him, so rude. I will NOT come back here anymore!! I had gone in to buy a shift coupler for my 65. The fat guy behind the counter tells me they don't have German part only aftermarket. I said ok being as I needed the car. Two weeks later coupler breaks as I was getting off the freeway. Finally made it home and took the defective coupler back. The same fat guy at the counter tells me "Well that's what you get for buying cheap aftermarket parts. I said "YOU were the one that sold me cheap aftermarket part". He went to the back and brought out another one threw it onto the counter and said, "well then I guess I should give you this". Won't be going back again. read more

Been coming here for years so believe me when I tell you AVOID this business. Customer service is terrible. Patrick is rude and unprofessional. The last straw was a rebuilt engine we bought for our customer. It had several broken studs and a severe oil leak. There company policies regarding their engines warranty is rediculous and an inconvenience to our valued customers. NEVER AGAIN BILL AND STEVE. read more

Great place! I just purchased a 71 vw bay window bus and have went here a few times for my parts. All the guys So far have been very friendly and helpful! They're also very knowledgeable which is what you want so you don't keep making unnecessary trips back and forth. It's good to know i found a place that's close to the house! I've been looking for a store of this caliber for years. This store has some OEM parts, some OEM refurb, and after market parts. The guys are on point they know there early VW's and give great advise. They go the extra mile if they don't have it in stock they'l find it and get it for you. I found my store for my restoration. Thank God for these people, they potentially saved me tons of money and time. I was sure my engine needed to be rebuilt. Found metal fragments in the engine and thought it was the brass on the camshaft self-destructing from an improperly mounted distributor driver gear. It turned out to be the rod from my fuel pump. Patrick gave me some great advice on solving my engine problems and told me what parts I would need. They have some excellent older original parts, tons of new parts, pretty much everything anyone would need for a classic VW. From now on I will do all my VW shopping only here. Glad to hear that they are open on Sunday. Really nice people and super helpful too. Very highly recommended! read more

It is as good as it gets if you don't want to travel as far as some of these other VW places. Not many of them around anymore. They have a pretty decent size store concidering thr size of other VW stores. Don and Steve are knowledgable people but I think they are about the only people who work there so if theres other people in there you might be waiting a while. I just cruise the store for cool stuff. I have purchased many replacement parts form them that are still running well. If you are thimking about restoring the old bug,ghia,micro bus,thing,fast back,type lll. Whatever they have the parts, and if they don't they can always get them ordered. read more

Went today with a list of parts to buy for our '72 beetle and '68 squareback. Arrive and there were two other people ahead of us with two gentlemen working behind the counter. We waited until our turn. It came quickly, we asked for the first part, it was retrieved, then the phone rang. We waited for that conversation to finish, once done the cashier said "lemme get this guy's name" to the customer next to us. He proceeded to help him with his question and then purchase! I walked off, found my husband. Once the clerk was done with that customer, my husband asked the clerk if we had his full attention now, the clerk rambled on with excuses.
