West Warwick was built by people who went to work. Before it was even a town, it was a collection of mill villages along the Pawtuxet River. Textile mills went up, jobs followed, and neighborhoods grew around them. Those mills don't define West Warwick anymore, but they left something behind. This is still a blue-collar, remarkably parochial town. People grow up here and stay here. They buy the house down the street from their parents. Sometimes the one next door. Sometimes they never leave the house they grew up in. That shapes who and what survives here. West Warwick has never needed the newest restaurant concept or trendy ingredient everybody suddenly discovered six months ago. They don't need tweezers to arrange their lunch or a paragraph on the menu explaining where everything on the plate was "sourced" from. Nobody here needs their lunch explained to them. Keep it simple. Make it good. Make it right. Give people their money's worth. They'll decide if you're worth coming back to. Bill's Place West Warwick has been getting that answer right since 1974. Bill and Kiki Melanis migrated from Greece in the 1970s. They worked with family members in the pizza business before opening a place of their own. Seven tables. Fifteen stools. A small menu of pizza and grinders. That's how Bill's Place started. Fifty-two years later, I ce for lunch and ordered two things that would have made perfect sense on that original menu. A meatball grinder and a 10-inch pepperoni pizza. The grinder came cut in half on a plain plate. The meatballs are a house family recipe, sliced rather than left whole, tender and juicy, covered with sauce and melted mozzarella. When I pulled the halves apart, the cheese followed. No garnish. No little metal basket. No attempt to make a meatball grinder anything other than what it was supposed to be. It was just really good. Then the pizza arrived. Bill's offers three sizes, a 10-inch, a 16-inch large and an 18-by-12 square. I went with the little guy. Ten inches. Pepperoni. The top looked right immediately. Cheese browned across the surface. Pepperoni curled into little cups, crisp around the rims, each one holding its own little pool of oil. Pepperoni as God intended. Then I turned over the first slice. That bottom. Dark brown and gold from edge to edge. Blistered. Crisp. Oil and pan heat had put an almost fried surface across the entire thing. That's where you could see the care. Greek pizza looks simple. Dough goes into an oiled pan, sauce and cheese go on top, and the whole thing goes into the oven. Cook it wrong and you know immediately. This was cooked right. The bottom crunched. The edge crunched. Inside, the dough stayed light and soft. The sauce had enough flavor to stay present beneath the cheese. And the pepperoni contributed exactly what those little cups promised. A little crunch and a little heat. And grease. Good grease. The kind that ends up on your fingertips and requires a napkin, not an apology. While I ate, I kept noticing the interactions. The servers were young. Teenagers, maybe very early twenties. But when they stopped at the tables, the conversations weren't young. They knew the orders. They knew the families. They knew enough about what had happened since the last visit to know what to ask about this time. That's different from good service. That's familiarity. That's belonging. And in West Warwick, that carries a ton of weight. Fifty-two years of people coming through the door. Parents bringing kids. Kids growing up, becoming regulars, then bringing kids of their own. Maybe that's the best measure of a great neighborhood restaurant. Not how long the doors have been open. How many generations have contunued walking through them. read more

Bill's is definitely a favorite for my family. They have really good pizza and it's a nice restaurant with TVs. They also have several gluten free options. During my last visit, I got a chicken sandwich made gluten free with green beans. It was pretty good. On the weekends, you may have to wait for a table because it gets pretty busy but the wait times aren't long and they have a whole bar you can go to. read more

Bill's is a favorite of my mom's. She is currently in a wheelchair and the server was very quick to help us settle in to a table. Not shown are a cosmo and beer. Mom said cosmo was perfect! Lobster roll was fairly priced and came full of juicy meat. I had the jumbo cheese ravioli and asked for grilled shrimp to be added as a protein. Shrimp were cooked perfectly. I Just had my last pizza at Bill's. They can't even get a small pepperoni right anymore. I use to go once a week, same order, then once a month. After tonight's disgusting pizza, it'll be my last. Me and my college mentor came beer for lunch and everytime I drive by it is packed so it was only right we gave it a go. And I'm so happy we did! We went at 2:30pm and it wasn't packed but a good amount of people were coming in consistently. They do have parking on the front and side but sometimes you might have to park on the street because it gets that packed. We were greeted very warmly and the server was a sweetie. The menu had a nice range of things and the lunch specials were great! I got linguine and clams and my mentor got a sandwich special. Everything was so tasty and great portions and the food came out pretty fast. The noise level was perfect, they do have a side with a bar and that side seemed chill and relaxed. But I had went on the website to order a eggplant parmesan grinder, I also wanted grilled onions and peppers on it. So I went and picked it up and the price was not the correct price on the website which should've been updated. So I'm all excited. I get back to the house and I open up the grinder,so disappointing it still had the skin on the eggplant there was hardly any sauce. Forgot to post last night, but dinner was at Bill's Place in West Warwick. We ordered right away, but it seemed like it took a long time for our food to arrive. Luckily, we were not disappointed. I had a turkey club; it was deli turkey, but was flavorful and stacked. Fries were good too. Hubby had a beef taco pizza and he said it was very good. Must have been- he ate the whole small pizza! He had his salsa on the side and said no to any sour cream. We were surprised that the restaurant was as busy as it was for a weeknight, and they probably could have used more help, but we all know how that it in this industry! Iv moved to coventry 2 years ago and been hearing about how good this place is and decided to try it out. On some days its very hard to get in here. The parking here is terrible. people coming here for take out mess up the parking for the patrons eating at the restaurant there is ample parking on the street but you gotta be careful due to the busy road. The service was excellent and the menu and the daily specials looked great. we ordered the buffalo chicken tenders and the mozzarella sticks. Prob the best mozzarella sticks I have ever had. You can tell they are freshly cut and breaded. I ordered the veal and provolone which was pretty underwhelming due to the torpedo bun being flat and lifeless. Please change the bread for your subs and I would kick this review up to a 5 star. For the price to go out to eat now a days restaurants need to do a better job with quality control. read more

Pleasant surprise after another restraunt was not able to accommodate my family because of seating issues with an infant. Bills had tons of gluten free options and the chicken wings were slamming! I had the candy apple martini. My husband and son split a pizza which they saud was amazing. Our waitress I think her name was Jen (we had one of the tables against the window when you first walk in ) You had tattoos and were such a sweetheart to my oldest son and just an amazing waitress super quick and very knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered BUFFALO wings all flats, well done and crispy. Did not get any of that besides the all flats. They used hot sauce from a bottle instead of buffalo sauce and they just pour the hot sauce on the bottom of the to go tray. The wings tasted like flavored and were not hot at all. Most orders are ready on time to estimate given if it's take-out. Very attentive waitstaff, clean place. My only regret is their chicken parm w/pink vodka sauce not being a regular menu item. Bill's has been a staple in the community for many years. It has recently gone through a remodel and it is beautiful. It has a bar, a dining room, and it also has take out. It has some off street parking but if they had more the parking lot would still be full! They also have a small outside area. The waitstaff is great and the food is too! read more
