SERVICE WAS WEIRD AND UNCALLED FOR. I believe the person who came up to use was the owner. Or possibly a manager. I was playing with my homie and before we were gonna break to start a game, he tells me we need to use a cloth underneath the white ball first otherwise we could damage the tables. I've never heard of this. I asked him multiple times why and to example n to me the logic. With this rule you could basically mess up the cloth after every hit. This idiot don't even introduce himself or anything, he just starting talking to us like we were ten year old and he was our dad. Also, he never did this shit with any other table there. There are also no signs anywhere of this rule. He pretty much killed our vibe and we left. We're grown ass men, if we fuck up your table so be it but why the fuck are you coming up to us and where we're half drunk trying to talk to us like you're our dad. Not coming back. read more

Overall it was not that expensive and they serve food. Service was prompt, with workers who might as well blend in with patrons. The lady/owner? at the cash register/checkout is friendly (asked if there were specials on a Saturday night...she said no, but first round can get a B1G1 Coronas deal...so did). There are 14 pool tables (regulation size), 3 billiards tables (the ones with no pockets) and one bar/pub pool table (smaller size). The pool sticks are not warped, but there is no chalk so it's kind of grippy at first. The restrooms are all the way in the back of the place. Nothing is really open around this area late at night, unless one counts a few taquerias and bars a few blocks away. This place closes at 2am, and "opens 365 days a year" yeah. read more

"It takes the hood to save the hood." I was born an American, raised a Mexakin. When I came here, I felt immediate comfort. My hood would definitely save me. I like this place much better than Family Billiards. It's easier for me to win, I'm in good company, the temperature doesn't rise to the point where I'm boiling, and the jukebox has got a good selection of music. Aventura, Don Omar, Camila, Sin Bandera, RBD, Maná, Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, you name it. They have American artists, too, but almost every jukebox in America does. I wish they had Reik and a few more songs. Oh wells. I screwed up on the jukebox. I had 4 free credits and fed the machine $5 and kept hitting "play next". Don't do that. It takes up an extra credit! I ended up only getting half the amount of songs I payed for. Sighs. The people here are very nice, and I think it's on the cheaper side. The decor is really nice and pretty! The pool tables have actual pockets, which I prefer over Family Billiards. They're got drinks and food, so drink up and eat up as I school you! Parking kinda stinks because it gets so crowded, but we got lucky. Take a cab? When I played "Te Amo" on the jukebox, someone at another table yelled "Makano!" I thought that was pretty rad. My friends and I went, most of us for the first time. Very pleased with the new owners and the care taken of the place. The table we were on, 11, is one of the most level tables I have ever played on. I like playing 'safe' at times, and some safeties simply cannot be done on a table that is 'off'. Their website is wrong; no food, no phone, but there's a lot of good places to eat nearby and you can byo. We'll be back! read more

Leaving a 1-star rating here primarily because of the customer service and staff. Came in for the first time on a Saturday night and the place didn't seem too busy, the crowd was a bit on the older side but not a big deal to me. I saw a bunch of tables open but we were put first on the waitlist with a 35-40 minute wait. We decided to wait and the male staff (not sure if he was an owner or manager) said he would give us a call when the table is ready. We received the call and said we would be there in 5 minutes since we were walking around because of the wait and he told us if we couldn't be there in less than 5 minutes he would have to remove us on the list. We hurried over and the same male employee or manager told us that the only table available was $14/hour for only 1 person! Online the price says $8/hour, in-person the price board is crossed out to $10/hour, and I feel that I was being up-charged by giving me a "special table" for $14/hour. I had called him out on why I was being up-charged on this specific table when there are plenty of other tables available. I think he realized that I knew he was up charging me and thought I wouldn't give it a second thought, and said he could give me one of the side tables for the $10/hour. I didn't appreciate trying to be up charged so I left pretty quickly and will definitely not be coming back. Me and my date went to Town & Country Billard, much better experience, friendly staff, and fair and accurate pricing. Also, this place takes cash only. read more

Had fun here last weekend. The environment isn't fancy, but clean and comfortable. I think they recently remodelled the rest room, which looks very clean now. Nothing like the one I saw a few years back. The only complaint I have is I wish they seperate the tables a little bit more. Kinda annonying when there's people playing right next to your table. This pool hall is the best place to shoot pool in San Francisco whether you're a very casual player or an avid shooter. If you're a casual player then the best thing about this place is the low prices, the beer selection, the service, the many tables and the chill environment. If you're a shooter...well if you're a shooter then there really isn't a better pool hall in the city, and I'd even dare to say the Bay Area, though I haven't been to EVERY pool hall in the bay, yet. Here's the rundown on this pool hall: - They have a good amount of well maintained 9ft tables, - They carry top notch equipment which includes Aramith Pro Cup balls always in great shape with the 6 dot measle cue ball, - Simonis Cloth that's also always very well maintained (I'm guessing it's 860), - Select tables with tight pockets (ask them which ones those are), - Two bar box 7ft tables including a beautiful Diamond table (only one of 4 places in the city that has one), - Two billiards/three-cushion tables, - oh and a large selection of straight cue sticks with proper leather tips (none of those screw-on or slip-on tip abominations). read more

I go here about once every two weeks to practice and I really appreciate the up-keep! Palacade definitely has the best tables in the city for a decent price. There is always a table open here and plenty of room to avoid bumping neighbors. Jukebox is filled with Los Tucanes de Tijuana... FYI :) My only problem is that I'm uncomfortable going here alone. If you are a lady... bring some pepper spray to walk to your car with or go with a man. read more

This place is a magical paradise. It looks sort of sketch from the outside, but on the inside it's pretty nice and the prices are much better than what I'm used to paying in South Bay. They got maybe 12-15 pool tables or something, and serve some pretty nice nachos and all those delicious Mexican sodas. The Jarritos, where the J is silent is what I learned when I tried to order it the guy was like what are you asking for? Say what? The J is silent. That's what I learned. Cool right. Parking around the area is street parking and it's pretty residential so good luck...I circled for like 15 minutes, so that was the only downside for me. The pool tables aren't top top notch but they are decent and definitely playable for the casual player just chilling with friends and having some fun. I've been coming here since I was in H.S. and I haven't came across a better pool hall in the Bay period. A lot of places I've gone too are more of a drinks on the table, then drinks around the table, where no one is really there to play, just crowd space. I found that you can probably do both only becuase there's so much room around the tables. But the place is mad mellow, low key and indeed a great place to play. Plus the arcade used to be the super kick-it spot for the youngsters with or without money (haha..that was me. I was more of a watcher then player..not by choice might I add). Nice 9 footers, and the felt is old, but kept smooth, so the ball's direction doesn't go left when you hit it right. Pool sticks aren't warped, so instead of a over-sized boomerang, you get a straight pool stick. Everything is pretty much good about the place. And yes I enjoy frozen taquitos, so that's even an added plus. Very good prices for a great place to just chill and shoot around a bit. In the afternoons, the OG's come in and play either each other or even play by their lonesome. Sometimes I watch nd just observe. I even ask for tips and they are more than willing to strike up friendly conversation, especially about something they love doing. The lady running the counter? My friends and I randomly found this place one night. Glad we did! I moved to the East Bay from L.A. about 4 months ago. A couple of weekends ago I had some friends visit me from L.A. because they missed me and they wanted to see the bay area (this was their first time visiting!). One of my friends was really bent on playing pool. Not sure why, but he just really wanted to play pool. He searched on his phone and Billiards Palacade came up first. I had never been that deep into SF before, yet we didn't have any trouble finding this place despite being in unfamiliar territory. This place was very easy to find (the marquee helps!) but parking was kind of a hassle. It didn't take that long to find street parking but we did park a couple of blocks away. We all fell in love with the place. I think a lot of the people there were Mexican and Central American. It kind of felt like I was back in l.a., which made us feel very welcome. Getting a pool table was easy. No wait time. Reasonably priced pool tables, snacks and drinks. I think we all ended up getting 4-5 beers each along with some snacks, which came out to about $12 a person (there were 4 of us). We got some nachos to much on. I loved these nachos! I've been looking for nachos like these all over the bay area. You know, the kind with the runny cheese, loaded with jalapeños? So delicious when you're drunk. We spent some money on the jukebox. I liked that the jukebox, when no one requested songs, would play a lot of corridas and norteño music and then randomly Lady Gaga. The service was great! To all non-Spanish speakers: I have no idea what any of the employee's English is like since all the ordering we did happened in Spanish, but I am sure they'll treat you just the same. Big props to this place for having a projector and screen on which they show sporting events. Big enough so the whole place can see. We walked in just as the Lakers won whatever playoff game they were playing. I highly recommend this place if you're in the market for a chill night of drinking and pool. read more

This place has been run by a husband and wife for decades, and they're wonderful. That woman is an angel. She runs a tight ship, and doesn't put up with ANYTHING (hey, can you blame her given the location?), and she's soooooo sweet. You can just tell that she's got this HUGE heart. The billiard equipment is in great condition! And in SF, that's a blessing. And there are lots of tables! (15 or 20) No more bumping your cue against the wall, or watching you ball change its path halfway down the table. They supply chalk for sticks, but dont have powder for you hands. Bring some baby powder or something. The Billard Palacade in an old vaudeville theatre, with the original wallpaper, and decorations, so it's a pretty cool space. I wish I could have seen it in it's hay day. I kept trying to imagine what it was like with performers up on that glorious stage. Alas. All the theatres like this in SF are in ruins. But that's another story. Not nuts about the food. Frozen taquitos with movie theatre cheese on top, and microwaved chicken wings. But if that's your thing, it's cheap! So, Pros: Great pool equipment, lots of tables, really sweet staff. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! Cons: Verifiably scary neighborhood, crappy food. Works for me. I love it! read more

I like watching people play pool, but never really picked up on the game. I decided to try it out and came to this place after walking by it dozens of times to the bus stop. The place was not crowded considering it was a Friday night and the vibe was pretty good. Although majority of the people were Latino, the people would just smile at you and let you get on your way to playing. The owner is very friendly and will answer any questions that you may have. Nice beer/soda selection. Will definitely come back in the future. Nice place to have a good time with friends who like to play pool. This place is pretty good price as well, and as much as people call this neighborhood "ghetto", it's really not. I used to live in this area and have never encountered a bad moment at all. I had never actually hung out in the Crocker-Amazon area of SF and found it somewhat of a surprise to find a rather large pool hall here. It was a surprise gathering of friends (none of whom had been to this part of town either) but I actually ended up having a great time here. The place is huge with 15-20 pool tables. The crowd was mostly middle-aged Hispanic males and although we didn't fit that demographic, it was a pretty welcoming place. The tables are nice and the per hour prices were very reasonable ($11-15/hour depending on the number of players). What made this place especially nice was the service. There's a woman who works at the front who, whenever we ordered beer, she would carefully wrap each beer with a napkin and cleverly tie it so that it wouldn't be too cold. Sweet! The place got pretty crowded mid-afternoon on a Saturday but died down considerably by the time dinner rolled around. Although we normally don't play pool or normally hang out around here, I thought it was a great experience checking out a new part of the city and doing something different. read more

This place isn't terrible. If you're looking for ambiance, you're not going to get it. What you will get is a 99%-male-occupied space. Tables are easy to get, and they're pretty cheap. The location isn't the best, but this place is open pretty late. You also get some greasy fare to eat, but they serve up pupusas and tamales as well (on the cheap too! $2.75 a pop). They've got a pretty solid selection of beers, so if you're looking to just hang out and shoot some pool at a divey billiards hall, this is the place for you. Don't expect any sort of grand comfort or upscale fun here. Just go and shoot on their tables on the cheap. Parking is really easy, but you're better off driving a less expensive vehicle because of the area. read more

Late at night is a very questionable time for any activity and this goes double for this billiard room. I half expected a fight to break out or someone to start some trouble. Be careful during late night because this place gets full with some unsavory patrons. Aside from that, the pool table look really nice and the florescent light really add to the finish off the tables. The high ceiling gives this place a noir/performance stage atmosphere that I'm a fan of. The food here consist of microwaved frozen food that looks like wholesale Costco food, but after a few drinks here, it's a winning combination. This lady finally gets there and opens the door. Not only does she not apologize for being late she starts giving us attitude. We got 3 tables and she's still being rude to us. After 8 years of living in SF, I finally made it over here. On a Sunday, @ 1pm, found parking fairly easily on a side street to avoid SF's fairly new crappy Sunday meter enforcement. I don't make it to this area often so I can't speak for the 'seediness' of late night. Having never stepped foot in here, I was pretty impressed with the architecture of the building (not sure of the history), layout, and overall cleanliness. I was super impressed with the staff meticulously cleaning & leveling the tables! I know they run a fair amount of tournaments out of here so it was nice to see them putting the condition of the tables first. By the end, got away w/ a $60 tab w/ tip between 2 people for a few hours of table time, 2 beers, 4 jarritos, & nachos. Well beyond reasonable for several hours of entertainment. I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

Actually, I much rather shoot pool here over "Family" on Geary. Sure, the neighborhood isn't as good. Get over it. I've been coming here since middle school. I've never once been jacked, had my car broken into, or got into it with other people there. Knock on wood. Family, on the other hand, is way overcrowded and more expensive. Palacade is actually cleaner (yes, I said it) and their tables are kept in much better condition. The guy that works at the counter seems pretty cool too. The demographic here is mostly Mexican. I won't bore you with the details of this place enumerated by previous reviews, ie. old theater, in ghetto, cheap, etc. Although I did have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table ( Sunday is league play) it gave me some time to get a seat, a drink and soak the place in. There were at least 5 languages being spoke throughout the hall which leveled things out. Its never relaxing when one group throws off the balance, everyone was doing their own thing, having a good time. The couple that run the place and their staff go out of their way to make the place comfortable for all who want to play or just hang out a bit. The tables are nice 9 footers, the "felt" ( its more like nylon ) is worn and adds to their great amount of run, cushions are a bit dead but the tables are level and straight and better than any I have played on for the money in SF. You have a good amount of room to shoot around each, and none from what I saw were impossibly placed in a corner or too close to a wall. This is a real pool hall. Along with an ice cold beer, ice-cold-beer and Michael Jackson on the box, the white-muffled roar of 20 lively conversations breezing through the old theater echoing up into its vaulted ceilings made it easy for me to make amends for the long drive from nothing-Napa. That sort of backdrop i fear is a bit to heterogeneous for most, driving them to scrub the character, history, and fun out of a place until they can see themselves in the reflection, a reflection that makes good men want to spit. If you like all things pool you have to check this place out, they don't make them like this anymore and I doubt they ever will again. read more
