The food was great but the service was odd. The young server came up to my table to ask what I wanted. I told her my order in very plain language. She asked me 3X what my order was. I told her what I wanted in the same language 3X. The food was correct and very good. The bill came to $18.68 and I put a $20.00 bill and 0.68 cents. I gave this and the bill to the host who asked me if I wanted change. I said yes (they owed me $2.00 because I left the tip on the table in cash). He left and then gave the bill to the server who came back with a $10 dollar bill, a $5 dollar bill, 5 x $1 dollar bills and the 0.68 cents. The server gave it to me and I asked her why she was giving me back my money. She said that I wanted change. There was another young server with a mask on at the till and they both looked at me like I was from Mars. I told them that I should get $2 dollars back and the rest should go into the till. The first server asked me if that was the "right math". I think that the people who hire at this establishment should make the people applying for the job do some simple math problems before they hire them. I could do this math in grade school. Boulevard Cafe is a solid breakfast spot with the best coffee -- good, classic American coffee that hits the spot every time. The staff here have been working here for years, and they know the regulars who come in daily and weekly. It gives the place a homey feeling, even though the restaurant itself is more modern. The kitchen sits near the center of the restaurant, so you can watch the chefs hustle and bustle while they cook up a storm, and the servers are always busy keeping up. The menu has a huge variety of solid breakfast and lunch items (they're open for dinner too, though I haven't tried it yet). My go-to is the corned beef hash and eggs -- they make their own hash, so it's not the canned type, if that's what you're looking for. My husband usually gets the tuna melt with pepper jack cheese, toasted just right. My kids always opt for the sweeter breakfasts like pancakes and waffles, which come with eggs, sausage or bacon, and toast. I've never been disappointed with the food here, and prices are reasonable. A few tips: weekend waits can run 30 minutes to an hour, so come early. Parking can be an issue -- you might have to park a bit further into the residential area by the apartments. Five stars for retro cool ambiance as well aa the mussels and clams special, except no clams please. I think my waiter was Renaldo and he took very good care of me as a solo diner. I actually had never eaten here but have been to Jack's quite a few times. Moules Frites are one of my favorite treats but clams are my least favorite mollusk and i was thrilled to have the special customized with all mussels. The fries were above average and dipped into the liquid gold that tasted of garlic, butter, warming spices, white wine and the sea. Every shell opened and the mussels were tiny and tender. The mussing star is because a my refilled half glass of iced tea was accidentally dumped on me as my plates were being cleared. We stopped by Boulevard Cafe for breakfast and ended up really impressed. Service was quick and efficient, and the portions were larger than expected, which made it feel like a great value. I ordered the Top of the Morning with scrambled eggs, applewood bacon, English muffins, and hash browns. Everything came out hot and filling. George went with the Three-egg Chorizo Scramble with onions and pepper jack cheese, plus hash browns and toast. He also tried a side of hollandaise, but it did not stand out since it tasted more like it came from a packaged mix. One thing that stood out right away was how generous the servings were. The eggs seemed bigger than usual, and neither of us left hungry. The space itself was clean, bright, and had a modern feel, which made the experience even better. In SF visiting with family and met up at the Boulevard Cafe. Restaurant has a large dining area which allows to seat large groups. We were a party of 12 and I felt we were a pretty easy group. However, our waiter had so many eye rolls and sighs when we had questions. Not sure why he was in a bad mood but we noticed. If the gratuity wasnt included, his tip would have been very different. Had not been here for breakfast since the pandemic. This visit was a disappointment. The sausage was not the large plump kind they used to have and it was cold. The hash browns used to be yukon gold but no more. Those were the 2 things that set this place apart for me in the past. Also the service was very poor. Server never was seen after delivering our meal. No refills on coffee offered. I finally flagged down a busboy. Probably will not return as i can get the same quality of food with better service in a cozier atmosphere. Always so loud here. Amazing experience at this restaurant! I always pass by this place as I live nearby, and I finally got the chance to try it. They have a wide variety of cocktails, and even a happy hour if that's up your alley! I tried out their lamb burger, which is made out of 100% lamb, and it was juicy and delectable. The blvd pasta was everything as well and super delicious and savory. The tamarindo sour and espresso martini were perfect. Lastly, to end the meal I tried their apple pie a-la-mode, and it was the best apple pie I've ever had! Ambience inside is elegant yet casual, and the staff were super kind! Good size wings, very tender, not dried the buffalo sauce added great flavor really did like these. Scampy prawns. The prawns were good sized. They weren't over cooked. Very well, seasoned. The pasta was cooked al dente. Chicken asiago- very large piece of chicken, very juicy, very juicy, even though it was flattened. Pasta was el dente just like the prawns. Alongside good portion of vegetables served alongside. Fried Chicken- add of the three dishes we had. This one was a REAL disappointment. It was more like a banquet chicken tv dinner than anything else. Each piece of chicken was more batter and chicken fat than meat, not a lot of meat on the dish again real disappointment. DO NOT ORDER! Chocolate Cake. When they brought the piece of cake, I was like, really, is that it that little slice, I kind of felt like Joey from friends, asking for more. Very rich. Take your in-laws here. Boulevard Café has been a popular Daly City icon since it opened in 2005. It's the kind of place that gives a city character and Daly City would feel a little emptier without it. The goal here is a classic diner experience with some unique signature dishes. It's in a great location easily reached from Pacifica, the Sunset, and anywhere in between. Close to everything. Ambiance Feels more like a cafeteria than a café. Cavernous ceilings and hardwood floors make for a noisy space. The entryway has a nice retro touch, and the seating is cool. The whole vibe feels like it was built in the '60s or '70s -- probably the look they're going for. I found it endearing. Service We were seated quickly, drinks taken promptly, and our order followed shortly after. So far, so good. The service itself, however, was quite lacking. I don't need a whole song and dance, but do try to look like you're conscious. If Soviet-era Brutalist architecture could get a job as a waiter, this guy was it. He had all the charm of a Serbian loan shark growing impatient that we hadn't defaulted yet. Anyway, the food... I ordered the lamb burger, which sounded interesting, and my bestie ordered a light breakfast for lunch of toast, sausage, and fruit. She was disappointed that they didn't have margarine or any other dairy substitute for the toast, but oh well. The lamb burger came with feta and red onion with shredded carrot and lettuce on the side. Or maybe that was a salad with no dressing. (There was enough lettuce that it might have been.) I took a bite and it was dry. I asked the waiter for some mayo, which he dropped off and quickly moved on without comment. The mayo wasn't enough to save it. It was just bland. It really needed something more- like maybe lemon or tzatziki sauce. Also the bun was too soft and poor quality. It fell apart before I had finished, so I had to resort to knife and fork. The horror, I know. Bestie's brunch for lunch wasn't much better. The toast was cold and the sausage was room temperature. The fruit, however, was quite fruity. And that's what you really want in fruit. So high score there. The Service Again I hope this guy was just having a bad day. I asked for more iced tea with my glass set conspicuously next to my bestie's empty water glass. He brought another iced tea, but didn't even ask her if she wanted a water refill. That seems so weird. Is it just me? Bathrooms Bestie reported the ladies' room was clean and nicely decorated. Parking I went on a Wednesday and there was just enough parking. In my experience, it's always been packed on the weekend, so I am assuming parking might be tricky. Things to improve. * Add sun shade. My bestie was a dark silhouette as I was seated facing the window. * Keep water glasses full. It's easy. * Add some noise mitigation. Hero Shout Out! Busboy Juan Carlos was hustling, smiling, and just doing a great job. Turning tables fast and being a boss. Give that guy some Giants tickets or something. He deserves 'em! __________________________________________________________________ I'm a burger snob, as some of you know, but I don't expect a fine dining experience in a diner. I'm looking for that uniquely American diner experience. (See my review of Art's Café). I do expect good service and food that is comforting and delicious. Good examples would be Tommy's or Max's. Boulevard Café just didn't deliver like that this time. Any restaurant can have a bad day and miss the mark. I'll be back to try the banana foster French toast at some point. I'm very appreciative that they are open on New Year's Day. I've been a customer for many years...and at the Lakeside Cafe on Ocean....and it has been my ritual to eat here on New Year's Day...for a long time...and obvious it's a ritual for many others. The food is always outstanding...I'm partial to the meatloaf, which my companions ate (but I ate a salad with prawns today...trying to be prudent with the calories...yet... we ordered a meatloaf to go) and I drank an outstanding berry drink...the house specialty. ...I had two. Desert descriptions would be repetitive ....everything is outstanding. Thank you to ERIC, our wonderful and personable "server"..is that the current term?...but the two other fellows were great too....I just didn't get their names. My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant late in the evening (we were their last customers) but were treated like we were their first of the day. Service was excellent! As was the food! We had their daily specials - prime rib with loaded baked potato and asparagus for him, and lemon herbed pork chops, mashed potatoes, and mixed FRESH vegetables. Both were DELICIOUS! I love a cute, old fashioned diner. If that's your scene, this is totally the place for you. With a chic cabin aesthetic and friendly staff, it's a great place to start the day with breakfast or brunch. I ordered the Greek yogurt and a side of sourdough, the portion was large and filling, but most importantly, it was the best Greek yogurt I've ever had at a brunch location. The yogurt was creamy and thick, the consistency I've only ever really found when shopping at farmers markets. The granola, honey, and fresh berries made for the heartiest breakfast. I thought I was making a reservation @ Westlake Joe's as we go for their fish & chips because they are FAB and more than plentiful. But I made a reservation here and we went for the F&C's, and they were GREAT and 3 nice size pieces, cooked perfectly, not greasy and HOT. Killer fries and sad no coleslaw but a decent little salad w/decent bleu cheese dressing, $21. Service was great, very attentive, but not intrusive. Because the space is so large it can be rather loud and off putting, but it did quiet down after a bit. Our reservation was for 12:30, uh, lunch time on a Friday. But honestly, I will always return for the food, price, portions and service. The bar is much quieter, by the way. read more

Came here for an early Mother's Day. I love that they have a parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking. Service was standard. Everyone at the table loved the schezwan pork ribs; they were crispy on the outside but tender and easily came off the bone. The alfredo was also one of the best I've had in years. Went there today and there were errors with every single order. Undercooked, burnt, missing items, improper preparation. Even sent one plate back for the burned food and the replacement was undercooked. Inexperienced wait staff. Inexperienced supervisor. We used to host many parties there, but will not be going back. In addition the cooks think caramelized onions are sautéed onions even after inquiring with the kitchen. The sausage gravy had no sausage. They only carry cow's milk for lattes. The calamari was excellent. Lattes were excellent as well. I was wondering as I arrived why there was so much parking when I arrived. read more
