I won't bore you with the details of this place enumerated by previous reviews, ie. old theater, in ghetto, cheap, etc. Although I did have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for a table ( Sunday is league play) it gave me some time to get a seat, a drink and soak the place in. There were at least 5 languages being spoke throughout the hall which leveled things out. Its never relaxing when one group throws off the balance, everyone was doing their own thing, having a good time. The couple that run the place and their staff go out of their way to make the place comfortable for all who want to play or just hang out a bit. The tables are nice 9 footers, the "felt" ( its more like nylon ) is worn and adds to their great amount of run, cushions are a bit dead but the tables are level and straight and better than any I have played on for the money in SF. You have a good amount of room to shoot around each, and none from what I saw were impossibly placed in a corner or too close to a wall. This is a real pool hall. Along with an ice cold beer, ice-cold-beer and Michael Jackson on the box, the white-muffled roar of 20 lively conversations breezing through the old theater echoing up into its vaulted ceilings made it easy for me to make amends for the long drive from nothing-Napa. That sort of backdrop i fear is a bit to heterogeneous for most, driving them to scrub the character, history, and fun out of a place until they can see themselves in the reflection, a reflection that makes good men want to spit. If you like all things pool you have to check this place out, they don't make them like this anymore and I doubt they ever will again. read more

Not a bad little billiards place near outer Mission. It's on the older generation side, but still does the job.

This is a great place for pool. It has about 18 tables and they are well kept. The crowd is mostly Latino and a little older than the crowd over at family billiards. It wasn't too crowded for a thursday night (there was always at least one open table). We shot some pool, had a few beers and couldn't help but play the lotto scratchers from the machine near the door. All those winning tickets on the counter were irresistable. My only qualm about the place was that they didn't have any white chalk for your hands ( I guess thats why the table are kept in good condition). This was a pretty good Pool Hall and I been to many Billiards. The staff are mostly made out of Hispanos, but they understand what you are saying. It is a huge hispanos hang out place, if you're Hispanos. If you're not, it is just a good place to play pool. There were plenty of pool tables and sticks. There is reasonable amount of crowd there, but you can totally get a table even at it's busy hours. There is a waiter, you can ask for beer if you drink. There is plenty of space between the tables, and pinballs machines if you're tired of pool. Also make sure you bring a ID, so they can hang you balls to play. It's only used for ball return and pay. This place is awesome. So many tables and at an unbeatable price! It's open late and serves all the beers/soft beverages you'd need. And if that isn't enough, there are nachos with homemade queso the owners make. Very chill place to spend some time when you're trying to have a good time and not break the bank like you normally would in the city. read more

If you can deal with mariachi music you're not going to find better kept tables, unless you come for the tourneys which Gene Miller runs like a true professional for NOThING except a luv for the game . Anyone who has ever played in one of his tourneys needs to say. " Thank You" read more

I've been here a few times . The pool hall is alright . The tables are really well-kept and the workers here really friendly . There's a jukebox but it doesn't have any new songs . been here a couple of times tables are good overall the atmosphere on the other, i feel like i am going to get shot either inside the poolhall or walking around that rea if you shoot decent, all the regulars will start staring a you the moment you come in if you have your own gear. it felt like being dump into tank filled with hungry sharks i personally wont go here to shoot. i rather come here with immigration officers and raid the place or with police and catch some drug dealers hanging around the music is constant south american. i have no problem with mexican music, just not all 2hrs i am playing there wont be coming back soon place is far too shady for my taste. read more

This place is my Billiards home. I feel comfortable here and visit frequently (about three times a week). The employees mind their own business and make it clear they are there to serve you. I love the large tables, the diversity of the clientele and the way sports are always being played on TV. What else can I say? I recommend this place to anyone looking to learn the basics or find a challenge. read more

The pool hall itself was decent and most tables were in good shape. And it's a bit cheaper than other pool places. Many cue sticks to choose from. There was no problem getting a table on the weekend night. The only issue is the location of the place. It's not the best neighborhood and there is some graffiti outside the building. They have a few small tables, a quarter table also three tight pocket tables. I am in love with this place. My friends and I go here all the time. It is our favorite place in the city to play pool and hangout/grab a drink. The owner Frank is extremely cool, friendly, and great to have a conversation with. Their prices are great and they are very easy to find and get to with public transportation. They serve alcohol and amazing DELICIOUS snacks. Sometimes I go here just to get the incredible Taquitos Frank sells for ONLY $3.50! I went there today in the afternoon and thought it was great! The place wasn't crowded at all and I was able to pick and choose from the tables that were available. The lady at the counter was real nice and explained everything to my friend and I who were newbies at the game. Everything was clean and well kept, very spacious. I went during the day and there wasn't really too many people there (a little more than half the place) was taken up. The people there were cool, everyone was minding their own business. The neighborhood around this area is definitely not as bad as its made out to be. Mission and Geneva is really popular and from what I can tell, extremely safe (atleast during the day). There are a lot of businesses all around and three or four bus stops, meaning that there are tons of people in that area. This place is located in some shady little alley, it's on a big street and very very visible! read more

I came here last week with my husband. We've lived right down the street from this place for over seven years and never darkened it's doors. It just didn't look very friendly from the outside, kinda rundown. But recently I've gotten really into pool and so I decided to give it a try. So we're walking up to the front door and there are a few cops talking to a few middleaged Latinos. Apparently the owner had kicked them out. We went in and I asked the woman behind the counter, whom I found out was the owner. She said she doesn't put up with people being disrespectful. She was super sweet. I felt safer knowing she was in charge. So they charge $5.75 for one person per hour, $11 per person per hour. Pretty decent prices. Beer is like $2.75 a bottle. Over all the prices, staff and quality of the tables really good. I really didn't like being gawked at by a huge room full of men though. I felt like a piece of meat from the moment I walked in. I'm a girl and pool requires bending over the table. Get over it! We eventually asked to move to the table in the back corner and we were able to have a game in peace. After that we had a good time. Oh, and there are no locks on the women's bathroom- not the outside door or the stall door. That would be a nice addition to make the minority feel a little more safe in a testosterone & alcohol filled environment. read more

Surprisingly nice equipment. Very fast simonis cloth, recently redone, clean new balls, and a mix of shimmed and unshimmed tables. The old amf tables seem level and the rails play correctly. Didn't expect this quality and friendly service, it looks a lil sketchy from the outside and the interior is a very old run down former theater. There's a wicked pool-themed graffiti mural outside. Jukebox is usually playing Latin music. There's not much selection of food and drinks and only 1 barbox but the great tables make up for any complaints. read more

It's too bad that the Palacade and Family Billiards are the only pool halls left in this city (I don't count Jillian's or King Kong). No more Great Entertainer, Hollywood Billiards, or Chalker's. There are also no snooker tables closer than the Broken Rack in Emeryville. The tables are in better shape then the ones at Family since the cloths have some nap left in them. The people here are friendly and a good atmosphere for practicing pool when it's not crowded. Family Billiards is in a better location and has a parking lot, but right now the Palacade is by far the best pool hall in San Francisco. read more
