My wife and I have breakfast here about one Saturday a month, we wouldn't keep coming back if we didn't really like it. The food and service are both very good and we often take a dozen great muffins home with us. The pancakes are HUGE, and the sausage patties are exceptionally good (spicy but excellent). Saturday mornings can be busy and require a wait, and there is no good place to wait for seating. People waiting have to either stand in the doorway in front of the muffin cabinet or along the back wall. That's the main reason for 4 stars instead of 5. read more

We are always trying out breakfast places and we were pleasantly surprised when we tried Bill's Bread and Breakfast....it was great!! Food excellent, the ham taking the prize..so much flavor; hash brown were another pleasant surprise because not all breakfast places serve them. I am also not a true coffee drinker but I had to try the coconut ice coffee and it was the perfect choice!! Serve was good and friendly; parking is not the greatest and while we got a table rather quickly I did see that the wait could be a few but it's well worth. We had a 10 minute wait, which is apparently the norm here, but it is well worth an even longer wait. The food is above average, the servers efficient and the baked goods look great. We ordered omelettes - a Philly cheese steak and a grilled portobello with roasted red peppers. Each came with bread and breakfast potatoes. Our choices were in-house baked English muffins and I had well-browned hashbrowns while Rich enjoyed well-browned home fries, all of which were very good. Some herbs, salt and pepper would have improved the omelettes and an even hand with the cheese would have improved the Philly cheese steak, which was dry at one end, but we'll definitely be back. read more

They make their own English muffins. I had one on a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. It was dense, but yummy. Also had a single blackberry pancake. Wicked good. Gf had steak and cheese omelette. Also good. Good breakfast/brunch. Eat here. It's good. Will satisfy but not amaze. We will go back and so would you if it's convenient. Wonderful place for breakfast, fresh baked goods, and a great atmosphere. Only reason it didn't get five stars is because they serve Putnam city water when you order water. They seriously need to get that under control. Offer bottled water, get a few Brita water pitchers, or have a water softening system installed. Don't serve Putnam city water that you would never drink yourself. Fantastic establishment with local notoriety should serve drinkable water. read more

It was not busy when we dined here for breakfast last Saturday. The owner graciously greeted us at the door and our waitress fetched me my coffee, and my husband his tea. That's when the good times ended. We were asked if we wanted our muffins first before our omlette, said no, and the owner brought right away regardless, indicating poor communication between management and staff. The ham in the western omlette was poor quality, we could not taste the 'jack cheese' at all. Our toast was un-toasted. When we asked for real toast, the owner brought it over when we were almost finished the omlette, and it had a big black hair on the plate. It was not hard to miss. We informed our waitress, who informed the owner. He expressed regret yet made excuses ie; "They all wear hats in the kitchen". This attempt to evade responsibility and turn the onus on the guest is wrong. My husband and I both have grey/white hair; it wasn't ours! The cooks should wear hair nets to prevent this in future. I found the owner's attempts to make feeble excuses shameful; he should have taken something small off the bill as an attempt to make amends. If he had done this, I would not have written this review. That said, the food was less than mediocre and when we were in a hurry to pay our bill, the waitress, a kindly young lady, made small talk with all the regulars despite our trying to flag her down repeatedly. Lastly, the price increase was not justified by the quality of the food. We will be avoiding the place, especially when we found out the muffins are Sysco brand, and only baked by the establishment. read more

My favorite breakfast place OF ALL TIME. FYI, It gets really busy in the morning so I recommend going early to get a good seat! My favorite breakfast to get is the Buttermilk waffles topped with whipped cream and strawberries. It's heaven on earth and I can eat it everyday if I could. Their hash browns are really good as well. So crispy and they give a good portion as well. Btw if you go during the week in the morning and it's not as busy, you can sit anywhere you like so I think that's pretty cool as well. read more

after a disappointing breakfast(s) elsewhere in the woodstock area i decided to do my homework this time. read the reviews on yelp and found this place... it is as described, absolutely excellent and one of the bettr breakfast meals i have had. if you've never experienced a breakfast sandwich on a homemade english muffin - which i never had- it is a wonderful experience! there baked goods and pastries are also phenomenal. the value is outstanding- we had 2 breakfast sandwiches, an omelet meal, a muffin, and 3 pastries for about $20!!! this food was easily worth double that. read more

it boggles my mind that i have lived in pomfret for just over a year now, and today was my first experience here. my boyfriend and i rolled in around 11:15, in time for both breakfast and lunch. the space is bigger than i imagined, with a good mix of booths and tables. service is friendly and prompt. we were told to sit wherever we liked and were brought menus. we both had a cup of the coffee of the month: hawaiian coconut, which was wonderfully nutty and smooth. i also had a cup of coffee milk which had great coffee flavor without being too sweet. for breakfast, we definitely over-ordered, but it was so worth it. my boyfriend ordered bill's big breakfast: 2 eggs (he got them scrambled), hash browns, bacon, english muffin, and french toast. everything was cooked to his liking, and the flavor was great. these were basic items, all done very well. because i'm typically not a breakfast person, i actually mixed a bit of the two menus. soup specials today were cheeseburger and creamy cajun chicken. i've had cheeseburger soup multiple places and it's typically either a tomatoey broth with cheeseburger components, or liquid cheese with cheeseburger components. theirs is broth-based, so i went with the creamy cajun chicken. this had wonderful texture, and the flavor was great, very forward and fresh with vegetables. for breakfast i ordered the crab cake benedict along with a side of homemade corned beef hash and turkey links. the crab cakes were creamy and full of fresh crab flavor. the homemade english muffin IS as good as everyone says, and the hollandaise was perfect. i ordered my corned beef hash well done, and it arrived perfectly griddled on the outside, and juicy on the inside. (note: when i ordered the hash, i was asked if i wanted canned or homemade. please- choose the homemade. it rivals anything inside a can, hands down.) turkey links were hot and juicy. our super-sized breakfast, including beverages, was about $35. i think if you order more modestly than we did, you'll have a very affordable and tasty breakfast, complete with great service. we will most definitely be back. read more

Surprisingly in little CT there is a breakfast/bakery that puts some of the ones in LA to shame. The food is always amazing here, and the breads and pastries and muffins are out of this world. The service/wait time is usually pretty quick, though it can get SUPER busy on weekends because it's so good. Definitely worth the wait. read more

Was in Putnam for the Deary 5-Miler last weekend and was taken here for breakfast by a cousin (big group of 8 or so). Easily the best breakfast in Putnam. Great breakfast sandwiches and homemade muffins/English muffins, etc. From Philly originally so the price for that quality was quite nice too. Went for breakfast this morning. Been here a few times since moving into Connecticut. Got the Irish Benedict which I really enjoy. It comes with nothing and is 12.99 now!?!? Well to start the Blueberry muffins are absolutely awesome. The homefries are really good but the fat free veggie omelette wasn't so hot but probably having to do with the fat free cheese being very watery, didn't even taste like cheese. All in all the place is really good just don't try to eat healthy it sucks LOL just go all out and get the good stuff and i'm sure it would have been better, omelettes are HUGE though very very good portions!!! All of the food here is good, but the baked goods are spectacular. I suppose it follows that out of the rest of the menu, the sweet items are the best. I always loved this place, but my last visit was very disappointing. I sensed that something wasn't right from the minute I sat down and had to wait too long for a menu. I ordered the western omelet, well done hash browns and the plain English Muffin. 5 stars for the English Muffin, but the omelet was runny and the hash browns needed a steak knife to break through them. They were hard and greasy. I have eaten here many times and was very surprised at the quality off the food and the terrible service. I hoped for another tea, but the waitress never returned. Why do people eat breakfast here? Entered the restaurant and thought the AC was broken. The waitress acknowledged that it was super warm but made no mention as to why or what was being done to improve the temperature. Our food was pedestrian, at best. Burned corned beef hash that I wouldn't feed my dog, everything was under seasoned and either over cooked or just under. I could have stayed home and made a better breakfast. They make all their own bread products from scratch. Best giant muffins ever in a wide variety of flavors yummy. Staff is always friendly and helpful. They are busy due to how great they are. Wow what a selection of muffins! We tried the red velvet and it was really good. I was proud of my Eggs Benny until I tried my wife's Irish Benny. Her's was fantastic! Mine was really good as well. I got a couple pieces of the thin French Toast, and it was nothing to write home about. However, for an extra $2.50 I was able to have REAL maple syrup brought to the table. This alone puts Bill's miles ahead of all the other breakfast diners I have been to on this New England road trip. Everywhere else it has been impossible to escape the ever-so-poisonous high fructose corn syrup. Prices were especially low. Salmon eggs benny for $10, forget about it! Great food an a great deal. Drove here from Rhody on the recommendation of our waitress from the English Muffin believe it or not. So glad we did. Decided to try it for Mother's Day breakfast and definitely weren't disappointed. They were slamming busy but we were only give a 20 minute wait for breakfast- ended up being sat in 15. The owner was super friendly and service was really good. The homemade muffins, homemade English muffins and shredded hash browns were the stars of the show. We had a table full of food and nowadays we don't get out of breakfast for under $70 having 3 growing boys but the bill came in at $53 so we were happily surprised. We will definitely take the trip again when we're in the mood for some great homemade breakfast. read more
