I really enjoyed my brief stay here. The room was clean, the people were friendly and helpful, and the little perks like a free mimosa, cookies, and to go cups for seltzer, were all really nice! Heated floors in the bathroom, nice products, and a fireplace were an added bonus. I stayed in the Sunset King for reference. Only thing I can comment on that could be better was the sauna - it's really tiny! But it wasn't an issue during my stay. read more

We went for a local overnight celebration for my husband's birthday. They upgraded our room to a balcony. The decor is very modern and retro. super chill and quiet this time of year. The cookies they put on the floor at 5 o'clock were delicious and wrapped in cute little newspaper. Our room was spacious, modern and very clean. The gas fireplace was an added bonus after coming back in from using the hot saltwater pool, which was divine! The lobby aquarium is beautiful. And the whole space is very relaxing and comfortable. This trendy boutique hotel (just 16 rooms) was my choice for a 2 night stay. Complimentary breakfast each morning, spacious & comfortable rooms, beautiful lobby with fireplace, sitting area and available spa & salt water swimming pool were a draw (although the rain/wind storm that came in kept me from trying out the pool...(next time). The 2 nights I stayed, the bistro/bar were not open in the evening...a drawback; but there are plenty of dining options in close proximity. The staff were very friendly & helpful, immediately expressing condolences when finding out reason for my stay (a funeral). Because of the storm, I was not able to enjoy the balcony of my room nor the top floor area to view the water (being December, by the time I checked in & after I got back from collation, it was too dark). There was an unexpected surprise of cookies being available at the community station on each floor...DELICIOUS)! Seeing as the hotel is a fairly new establishment (coming up on 10 years in 2025) it is still a very clean and up to date facility! I will not hesitate to stay here again. read more

This lovely hotel deserves more than 5 stars! Charming staff, top shelf amenities and many levels of comfort. You can borrow a bike, or walk to the waterfront, or to the numerous nearby restaurants. There are 3 beaches very nearby. And you'll have a nice beach bag to carry the towels they provide for beach and pool. And the pool is salt water and nice, even in winter, at 92 degrees, with a nearby sauna. A fireplace in the room and big screen tv, with super comfy furnishings make it a cozy getaway. The wonderful breakfast and ice cold sparkling water in the hallways not to mention fresh chocolate chip cookies take this place over the top! We are already planning our return visit! read more

The hotel itself is a lovely little boutique hotel in Narragansett. Unfortunately that is where the "lovely" ends. Last night during our stay our floor was awoken by incessant loud banging on doors and screaming. We all learned, after a few deliberate car alarms, some damage to the lobby, and the fire alarm being pulled, that a young woman was very upset she was unable to find her friend (who it turns out was sleeping very soundly in her room. They were on a tour together and were not well known to each other). Hotel guests evacuated at 2:15 am. There is apparently no staff on the grounds from 9 pm-7/8 am; the police were not even able to enter the building this morning for a follow-up without a guest letting them in via key card. While there is an emergency number in the lobby when staff are not around, it does seem odd and unsafe to leave a bunch of guests alone overnight (whether for potentially intoxicated guests or actual emergencies). I will say the Narragansett police, fire, and hotel staff have been very nice. We have stayed here before and it was a good experience. I understand this is a fluke but it does raise questions about safety and hotel protocols especially with certain individuals (ie: emergency services) not being able to enter if needed. To add about safety, their elevator was last inspected 06/28/2024. Might be time to get that checked out; usually these are done yearly. We love Narragansett and have been visiting for years. We were happy to find a small hotel that we thought would be quiet; unfortunately our stay was anything but. read more

Supposed to be 4 star. Not hardly. Rooftop lounge closed - no explanation. Pool closed tomorrow (for maintenance). Bar - no Dewars scotch. No Chivas Regal. Settled for Glenlivet. Wanted a Pina Colada - not happening (no frozen drinks - blender was broken). Room was clean and nicely appointed. Housekeeping apparently does not check the balconies- found two cigar butts on the balcony deck and what appeared to be a large red wine spill on the balcony side table. Restaurant - food was great! Service was sooooo slow. Wife and I were the only two in the restaurant and still took 15-20 mins between courses. This place is VERY expensive ($500 a night) and highly overrated. read more

My girlfriend and I spent a fantastic night at the break for a post holidays getaway without the kids and everything was wonderful. We both noticed that the attention to detail throughout the hotel was wonderful and that they excelled at providing little touches (like sparkling water machines on every floor and a jar of warm cookies in the afternoon) around every corner. Found this place when the ferry was cancelled. Kim at the front desk was incredibly helpful getting us a room. The rooftop bar was packed with other guests and fellow castaways. Have you ever needed a Break? From work, family issues, never-ending global economic and pandemic woes, or all of the above? I did. And I was lucky enough to be able to take one at, you guessed it, The Break. I researched The Break online, called ahead, and easily booked the Oceanview suite from their website. It was mid-week and off-season, so I got a great deal. I hopped in the car and pulled in a few hours later to find that the front desk manager, whom I'd spoken to by phone, had my room keys ready and allowed me to check in early. Their restaurant is closed some nights in the off-season, so she emailed me a list of good restaurants in the area. The place -- every inch of this hotel was meticulously designed to be attractive, open, relaxing, chic, and comfortable. There is a saltwater fish tank in the lobby. Every rug, light fixture, piece of furniture, and wall covering is gorgeous. The colors are bright, it is not overly crowded, and the background music is relaxing, and not too loud. My room --- beautiful bed, seating, and a deck overlooking the heated swimming pool, an outdoor sauna, and an ocean view. I will admit that my bathing suit and flip flops remained in my suitcase because I was too much of a wimp to hit the pool at 48 degrees with a steady ocean wind -- but many of the other guests were more hearty and were in the pool! I forgot my phone charger (of course I did), and there was a charging stand next to my bed. There was a desk where I could do work, the floor in the bathroom is heated, there is a water station on every floor and fresh cookies, and the shower and soaps, etc. were fantastic. And, the breakfast -- first of all, beautiful dining area. I sat next to the window and the pool reflected off of the gorgeous ceiling. The people were friendly, helpful, and kind. There was plenty of food and it was good -- fresh coffee, orange juice, fruit, yogurt, French toast and I saw plenty of bacon and omelettes. A front desk member steered me toward a sidewalk next to the ocean where I took long walks every day. It gave me time to think and relax. I feel ready to go back to it all. In short, this place is a find. Get here if you can. read more

We stayed here in Sept 23 when our ferry to block island was canceled due to weather. We stayed here two nights and enjoyed their bar/restaurant. We were so impressed! They pay attention to detail here! Amazing service, so accommodating. This place is 10 years old and it looks brand new. This hotel turned a disappointing trip into a great experience. When we thought it couldn't be any better we saw they provided a tin of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies - so good. The dining experience has been hit or miss, however, Rebecca has been the A+ person who must be recognized as exceptional in all of our visits! She is with out a doubt a hands on and attentive bartender, server and honesty at your service and ready to accomodate whatever is needed. They normally have buffet breakfast but with Covid, you got free room service and the breakfast was like we went out for breakfast. Rooms are sanitized and you need your room key to even get to your floor to keep everyone organized and spaced. Wonderful staff. They even left a special treat in our room when they learned it was my birthday. Thanks for a great stay! Not many hotels check ALL the boxes like this! As for the review below mine, we didn't pay $400, in fact it was under $340. Rooftop restaurant closure is bc of covid, we must adjust and have a bit more patience for businesses right now. read more

This gem defines relaxation. We needed a few quiet days to unwind and the Break was what we needed. Quiet, no pressure, super relaxing. The rooms are huge and quiet. The hotel was full but not crowded. Every room has a wireless access point so total, fast internet access. There are two cell phone repeaters so service was fantastic. The pool is awesome. The rooftop lounge is a great retreat. Super helpful staff. The spa services were top notch. We have no complaints. We will be back. read more

This hotel is gorgeous and we absolutely loved the gas fireplaces in the rooms. We booked it for 3 nights after seeing them on Groupon. Unfortunately, Groupon messed up and didn't send them my reservation (after I paid in full) so when we got there they had no room for us. I had reserved an Ocean View room and it was our anniversary, as well as Valentine's Day and fortunately, they were able to squeeze us into an available room but had to move us the next day because it was reserved for someone else. I was disappointed that we didn't get the ocean view and the desk/seating area, but was so grateful that they could accommodate us. They did their best to make up for what was definitely NOT their error. They gave us dining credits, a small bottle of wine, chocolates and the next day when they had to move us, they left a beautiful half dozen chocolate dipped strawberries in the fridge for us. I was so grateful for all the nice touches. They also gave us dining credits throughout our stay. Loved the beautiful walk-in rain shower in the first room. Didn't care for the tub in the second room though, as it was very high and the door was very narrow so my husband had to help me get in and out so I wouldn't fall. The bathrooms have heated floors and automatic vents which are wonderful though! Breakfast was complimentary and so tasty! I enjoyed the beautiful dining area and my egg casserole and pancakes. Best overnight oats I've ever had and always fresh fruit and what looked like homemade bread for toast. Our dinner at the restaurant the first night was OK but the drinks and service were fabulous! We went to the rooftop bar for more drinks and loved that so much that we went there every night! It was one of the highlights of our stay! Bartenders were so friendly and the bar area is gorgeous. During the day the views are beautiful. This is absolutely a 5-star place in my opinion! Even with the issues we had, I was so impressed by how comfortable and beautiful everything was -- on our last day there was a different staff and they were a little slower replacing things for breakfast and that first night we thought our dinner was a tad too salty, but aside from Groupon's mess (and the tub) everything else was beautiful. We received a gift certificate to come back and try the room we wanted another time and will definitely do that. I'm sure I'll be able to add on that 5th star when we do!! :) read more

We went for my birthday in February 2023 and booked a two-night stay. We had dinner at the Chair 5 restaurant the first evening. The restaurant was only serving a limited menu...which was understandable given the time of year and the burger was really good. That night I didn't sleep well between the fog horn, heating unit turning off and on and chemical smell in the room. Upon getting up in the morning, my eyes were swollen and almost shut. We had planned to go swimming in the "heated pool" but after not sleeping well and having some kind of allergic reaction, we decided to just go home. We were told that they had just upgraded the rug in the room and that's where the chemical smell came from...like being in a Home Goods store! The owner did give us a credit for the second night (which was the discounted night) but we were charged full price for the first night. It was really nice that he even did that since the policy is "pay up front and no refunds". We had a credit of $231.00 to use in the restaurant or for another night stay. We decided to use it yesterday for dinner after going to Theater by the Sea. The website dinner menu gave us some good choices so we made reservations. We arrived at The Break and they gave us the "gift certificate" for $231.00 with a note that it could not be used for the gratuity. We went up to the restaurant and sat down to eat and we were told they had lost their chef and they only had a "limited menu" to make our selections. It was noisy and not conducive to an enjoyable meal, so we decided to take our $231.00 of food to go. Our waitress was great, she help us decided how to use our gift certificate to the fullest, and we gave her an appropriate tip. We had a shrimp appetizer (shrimp were delicious but half the shrimp still had excrement in the veins which we cleaned), we took fish and chips, burgers, a cheese tray and one dessert to go and a bottle of wine, Ardeche , unoaked chardonnay, which was listed on the website menu at 10/38 ($10 glass and $38 a bottle). The menu we were given listed the same wine at $52 a bottle...this wine costs $12-$15 in a liquor store...we can appreciate a mark-up but $52 seemed ridiculous...but since we were never going back to The Break we added it to our take-out order. We understand that in order to stay in business you need to make a profit, but our experience was not pleasant and we felt abused. We should have been given our money back in February! read more

Formally requesting the use of the mythological sixth star. What a gem! Every part of this hotel has been thought through with an attention to detail rarely seen in these parts. From the Usb outlets underneath the bar to the heated floors in the bathroom and the option for an in-room iPad for use during your stay (and Apple TV). The whole hotel has a 1950's beach house with a touch of the modern accents. Head up to the top floor bar with deck looking out over the water and you might catch some acoustic live music. Dine Chair 5 on the ground for for some gourmet beach food. The pool is heated year round so if you are not really a fan of the summer crowds head over late in the season (or at the beginning as we did) and you can still enjoy a dip. The hotel has a gym in the basement which is more tucked away down there vs. relegated there. The spa rooms are also down there if you are in need of a little pampering. These folks work hard to make your stay feel special so rather than go to those typical tourist traps, take a Break and enjoy how good a beach hotel/restaurant can and frankly should be. Eat well Providence....enjoy our beaches when they're warmer and cooler. read more

This could have been a 4 or 5 star review much like the ones The Break is accustomed to receiving had I not had a very disturbing and uncomfortable experience with the General Manager upon check out. We had somber business that brought us to Rhode Island and after reading stellar reviews of The Break we felt like this would be the perfect place to spend a few days of R&R in between fulfilling a family obligation nearby. Upon arrival and throughout our stay, we were met with a warm and helpful staff and we were happy to see good Covid prevention practices in place. The accommodations were tasteful, loved the pool, and our room was very clean. After a 4.5 hour drive we were tired and looking forward to dinner and a movie in our room. Their website boasts of offering Apple TV but after much effort by me,who is extremely tech savvy and Casey from the front desk who brought replacement remotes and tried repeatedly to access any app that would have allowed us some good options, she was not even able to even use any remote without standing two feet from the TV (nor were we) and had no success accessing many apps that we subscribe to which their Smart TV offered. She was very apologetic and said she would alert the GM to the problem. After spending over a thousand dollars for two nights, I would never have expected the level of arrogance and dismissiveness I received by the General Manager at checkout. I was treated like a moron who doesn't understand how to operate a TV with multiple inputs and was told then that "electronic issues weren't the hotel's responsibility" before saying he couldn't do anything for me. This may not a big deal for some but when we're in the middle of a pandemic with limited options for entertainment, it would have been a decent business practice to care a little more about an amenity we were denied. After saying there was nothing he was going to do for me, I told him to do what he wanted and said I would do what I wanted. At that point he condescendingly said "So what's this worth to you?" I shrugged because honestly his attitude made me sick. He offered a $25 discount. This wasn't about trying to squeezing money out of anyone. And I certainly didn't expect to have this conversation while a woman was behind me trying to check out. This was an opportunity for the General Manager to acknowledge that a technical problem on the property had wasted my time and a good business practice, one that I have used would have been to offer some type of discount to a customer you should want return business from or at least to leave happy. I've never written a bad review even when I may have been disappointed and I've travelled extensively and that's because I've never encountered a manager, certainly not a senior level one, who's attitude when their service was less that what it offered do anything but try to satisfy the customer. read more

Top notch in every way. Hotel was warm, welcoming and exceptionally clean. Staff was cheerful, friendly and kind. The Chair 5 Staff took wonderful care of us and we quickly felt like an extension of the family. Pool and Sauna looked very inviting but we never made it to either one. I almost hate to tell people how fantastic this hotel is because I'd love to keep it a secret and have it all to myself but this hotel is too notch. I have been fortunate to travel the world and stay at some very high end hotels and The Break easily competes with them all. It is by far the most welcome I have ever felt. The staff (Casey at the front desk and Karl, the waiter in the hotel's restaurant particularly stand out). The hotel's decor is beach whimsy and absolutely charming. There is a salt water heated pool, bicycles available to use for free and a sunset deck that is comfortable and perfect to sit on with a drink to watch the gorgeous sunset. The free breakfast included the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. Can't recommend this place highly enough! read more

What a disappointment...our first post Covid trip. I asked for a room with a tub and THOUGHT I was getting a balcony that overlooked the ocean. Nope...for $500/night my room overlooks the road and the hotel portico and no tub. The room is nice enough but is no better than a room at Tru by Hilton, pseudo hip. No ice( not a covid thing, just no ice) No screens on the windows if you want them open????? The room is smallish. Bed is nice, that's about all the good I can give this place. I'm KICKING myself for spending this kind of $$ on this lacking hotel. Trust me, don't believe the hype...sooooooo not worth the $$$. read more

Had a pleasant 3 day stay here for our mini honeymoon! The staff even heated our left over meals from our wedding, thank you so much for accommodating us!!! Pool is warm enough, only thing missing is a hot tub . Breakfast is basically small meal tapas type food... Good, high quality, but not the most filling. They hooked us up with some Eggs to help us start our day off right. Rooms were very clean, had a rain shower and fireplace, along with heated floors, how can you go wrong? Pricey, but worth it. If you are looking for a place to stay by the Ocean in RI, that is not a chain hotel, this is the spot. Its an owner operated hotel and yes, they are in the building. Everyone in RI been needs to take a staycation here. Winter or summer its a perfect one night get away. Gas fireplaces everywhere you go and yes in the rooms. Heated year round salt water pool with a sweat house. Found this place on a drive by new years eve ans they were booked up. The Durkins, Hotel owners, were nearby and heard we were locals on a day trip and gave up thier room on New Years Eve for us! Immaculate, friendly, and farm fresh local ingredients. If you're a local, you get the deal ;). Take a daytrip you won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying two nights while we visited the area in mid April. We had made reservations months in advance and we were glad we did. I would describe the Break as a beautiful quaint charming romantic boutique hotel with a great vintage look. There's only 16 rooms so it's nice and quiet. There is a giant fish tank that grabs your attention when you stroll in. When we checked in our room was under minor renovation so they upgraded us to a suite. We were handed an IPAD when we checked in and told everything we needed to know about the area, the hotel, and some of the local restaurants were on there. WOW! Our suite had a separate living area, two televisions, a work station, a gas fireplace, heated bathroom floors, a refrigerator, a Keurig with coffee and tea options, and bottles of water. Everything was updated, clean, and working. I forgot to mention the views of the ocean. Did I mention the delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies that were placed strategically as you walked off the elevators as you walked back to your room? On our first evening there, we were invited for a nominal fee to join in a wine tasting event in the lobby by the fireplace. Best yet, each wine tasting came with an hors d'oeuvre prepared by the chef to compliment each wine. The chef actually came around and described what you were eating. OBTW, the pours by the host were generous and healthy. The wines weren't for sale so there was no pressure to purchase. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious and a great way to promote the dining at the Break. We enjoyed their complimentary hot/cold breakfast they served each morning in the dining and bar area overlooking the pool. They offered various scones, yogurts, cooked to order pancakes, granola, an egg item, juices, tea, and coffee. Coffee was excellent. The Break is located down the road from all the beaches. They are within walking distance of a few very good restaurants, especially the Spain of Narragansett. There is a heated pool and an upper deck dining area which we didn't take advantage of because of the cool weather. If you wanted to be stranded somewhere this is the place to be. The entire staff was friendly, warm, and caring. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind staying here and driving the 16 miles to Newport. Just came back from a most wonderful weekend with my family at this spectacular hotel. My wife happened upon it back in May on the internet, prior to their opening. Really can't say enough good things from the decor, amenities and most of all, the service. G.M.'s Heather and Mike assure that everything is "perfect". From all of the hi tech features throughout the hotel and in rooms to the perfect arrangements of a fresh, eclectic and healthy breakfast presentation. I've been to this place a couple times, both when they were extremely busy and had the four course meal. The setting is amazing and service was great.
