Bill has been sweeping our chimney for a couple years. We met him when getting a second opinion on a previous chimney inspection which claimed our chimney would basically have to be rebuilt. He debunked every single thing the previous business claimed, showing me each item and why it was a non- issue. He's a no nonsense, salt of the earth guy, he does a great job, he cleans up, and he's very affordable. But where he really knocked it out of the park was installing a wood stove. After a few years of open fires, we came around to the efficiency of a wood stove. Bill sold us a great stove, and installed it in one morning. I was there every step of the way ( I'm a very hands on person and love to learn how things are done ) and was beyond satisfied with his work. Bill just left my home and my windows are sparkling! My house has tons of windows, skylights and solar panels and they're so hard for us to clean. But Bill shows up once a year (I should probably have him come twice a year though) early in the morning, works hard for hours and uses a lot of elbow grease and what must be magic because the entire home seems to sparkle from the outside in when he's done. Lori answered Yelp messages regarding quote and setting up appointment super quick, and Bill was also easily reachable and responsible via cell phone. We are first time homeowners and moved into a home with a fireplace that we didn't know how to use, and didn't really plan to. We noticed that there was a draft and that the lever to close the damper was not doing anything. With all the smoke from fire season and the heat waves, we were really concerned about the airflow that was going in/out from our chimney at all times of day. Bill arrived and ended up teaching us how to use our fireplace, and also discovered the damper had been installed backwards and was permanently stuck. He gave us a quote for labor and parts to install a new damper and was able to come back to do the work as soon as the parts arrived. Just in time for the second wave of bad air quality days we had recently. Our air purifier didn't need to work nearly as hard as it had the first wave or last year, and we didn't smell smoke in the house. What a relief! We asked him to come over since we recently purchased our home and we wanted to ensure our chimney was safe for use and that it was clean. We have a difficult chimney with a malfunctioning frozen damper, and an external cap damper. Bill came over diagnosed the problem, cleaned the chimney and removed the cap damper so we could install our insert. Re: fireplace insert replacement with a clean burning stove. What a difference, for the better. We started a fire this evening and the stove heated up quickly to 400 degrees. With the fan on we were able to heat down the hall in about 2 hours compared to 2 days with the old Earth stove. Very little smoke out the chimney. Beautiful watching the flames. The old stove didn't have flames when opening to add wood, this one does. Decided to use Bill's services because he came recommended and quoted a reasonable price for chimney cleaning and inspection. He said he'd text me back to schedule the work. Fine, no problem. I reached out in the meantime to inquire if he was Fire and CSIA certified. He responded that no he was not and defensively pushed back at the importance of these certifications and told me to take my business elsewhere. Other reviews about his gruff nature seem spot on. I had Bill come out to clean out a fireplace in an old home, he was quick, efficient and on time. He explained what he was doing and why. He has the character of an old time business owner, holds himself to his word and if it wasn't for Covid a handshake. would of been in order. He had to come back with a Spark arrestor and told me he would take a picture and send it to me as the house was empty at the time. Bill was great! He probably saved my house from burning down. I called a few places listed on Yelp and I was not really impressed with what I heard. Due to reviews I asked Bill to come check out my old house chimney. He showed up on time and started the inspection. Turns out my damper was so warped and rotted and there was damage all around the firebox that if I lit a fire it would have been very dangerous. He gave me a few options and said think about it then call him. That's exactly what I want to hear from someone. I did not feel pressured to do anything at all (one option). After great explanations about what he could do and estimates I waited a day then decided to go with a rebuild of the firebox and replacement of the damper instead of a wood burning stove (another option). He worked maybe 10 to 12 hrs over 2 days to finish the project. Along the way he was really professional. He obviously knew what he was doing, and he was very nice and entertaining. Bill is a wonderful guy. Very approachable and knowledgeable about his area of expertise. My experience regarding the work was less than perfect based on a few things. My appointment was set for 10 am and we were asked if we could accommodate an 8 am visit. We agreed. He showed up 15 minutes before 8am. No issues. Happy to accommodate. My expectation was that the charge I was quoted was for cleaning 2 chimneys. Bill spent 5 minutes to inspect the chimneys and told me they are clean and handed me a bill for upwards of $500. Seriously? You did no work other than looking up the chute and you charge that much. I asked him if he charges that much for just 'looking' and actually cleaning and he said yes. I wish that had been made clear before he came for the inspection. read more

We needed our chimney inspected and cleaned, and also wanted an estimate on converting to a gas fireplace in the future. Other companies I reached out to wanted to charge much more *just* to inspect the fireplace, then credit a portion of the charge to the cleaning, which was a separate charge. Bill's estimate for inspection and cleaning was very fair and I am so glad that we went with him! He arrived on time, wore a mask, and explained everything in detail.
