I am torn. The guys are great. Several times I took my car there expecting to pay hundreds and left with the problem solved for under $20 (e.g., very slow power-steering leak so it really just needed power steering fluid topped off). If anything they err on the side of inexpensive/free fix now that may need attention again later. Also a plus: They are right next to a Silver Line stop, it is easy to get to South Station. That said, many times I would schedule in advance and they couldn't look at it that day, or they could look at it but couldn't line up the parts or lift time for a few days. (It's a small shop with only one lift, I think.) Also, they often close well before 5. We use our car for daily commuting and so have to plan ahead for having it in the shop for just one day. In the end, this made these guys impractical to work with. In short, if you live and work in the area and so can leave your car for a few days, take this review as five stars; if you need to need things fixed fast and need to fit that in with a working schedule, you probably want to look elsewhere. read more

As other mentioned this garage is hard to find. So let me start with directions: Take Northern Ave towards the Harpoon Brewery. Pass the Harpoon Brewery entrance and take your next left. You are now on Seafood Way (though that is not marked). At the first intersection (again unmarked) with Fid Kennedy Rd, Bill's Garage is on your left. Take a left onto Fid Kennedy Rd and take your first left into the little parking lot. You are now at Bill's Garage. It is not marked and you have to walk around the corner to see a door to buzz to be let in. This garage used to be in the building where The Renaissance now is. Bill and Jason's (the guys who run the shop) father started the garage in 1953. I took my Mom's car there when a nasty snowstorm damaged the windshield wipers (not just the blades) while she was visiting me. Jason drove me home and offered to pick me up to retrieve my car an hour later. Yes he prioritized fixing this problem for me so my Mom could get home. I would definitely go back. read more

Bill's is awesome. I bring my car here annually to get inspected and he totally remembers me and cracks up at my dying vehicle. But seriously, when it did need a bit of work, they were super honest and helpful, fully disclosing that they could do it for me and it would cost them about $600 but if i took it to X shop, they could probably mcguyver something for me for $200 since it's their specialty. Saved me a few hundred bucks! And I've had similarly good experiences every time I've done business here. Like the others said, it is really difficult to find (and be warned, the fish stench is a bit overwhelming), but so worth it. read more

Finding a trustworthy auto repair shop can be difficult, but whenever I get my car serviced at Bill's Garage, I never have to worry about getting ripped off or poor results. I recently dropped my house keys down into never land between the center console and the passengers seat of my car. I called the guys at Bill's, and not only were they able to meet me right away, but they dug my keys out for me AT NO CHARGE. All of the other services I have received (oil changes, tire rotations, inspections) have also exceeded my expectations. They are knowledgeable, efficient, and reasonably priced. Really great guys working here. They are very honest and friendly. My car's frame broke and I brought it here. They were very straight with me about the car's prospects (not good) and didn't try to charge me for unnecessary repairs. They also gave me advice about what to do with the car, allowed me to keep it in their parking lot over the weekend, and recommended a much-needed stop at the harpoon brewery next door. I only found these guys because I submitted a quote request for another place closer to my home in Roslindale but Yelp suggested I ask these guys for a quote as well. I spoke with Billy on the phone who was very kind and professional but said they could not give me an accurate quote over the phone and they would need to look at it, but they would not charge me to look at it. So a week or two later I drove my car over there and they told me my problem was not with the water pump like I believed it to be, but actually with the thermostat housing and said they could do the repair but it might take some time to get the part as I drive a Daewoo and parts can be difficult to find. I remembered when I was looking for water pumps thinking that was the problem that Rock Auto sold parts for this car so they said if I could get the part they would be happy to put it in. They also gave me some tips to keep the car running well until I could get the part in. I had Rock Auto overnight me the part, and brought my car in two days later at 7am and got a call that it was ready at 10am. They charged me a very reasonable price and were very friendly and trustworthy. They do have very early hours, 7a-2:30pm I believe, but believe me when I say I'm never going to another mechanic again as long as I still live here. These guys are great! read more

Made our morning!! Quick, professional, great prices, competent and simply above and beyond. Came across Bills Garage, run by father-son combo Bill and Jason, via Yelp after we spent 4 hours driving in from NYC. We had borrowed a 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan for our trip and for some unknown reason, it became an uncontrollably wobbly vibrating mess after 60mph. Steering wheel, car seats, everything. Not a good sign. Went to see Jason and Bill and dropped it off for inspection. Two follow up calls later and the problem was taken care of in two hours flat. Was in shock because 1. the price was 1/3 of the price expected. Mechanics have a bad rep of charging an arm and a leg and it was such a nice surprise to find out that Bills Garage is an exception. Fair prices and great work! There are honest people left in the world!!! 2. Jason even offered to drop off the car to our front door of the hotel! Who does that!? Be careful though: 1 the place is difficult to find. You have to go around the back of the same building as harpoon brewery 2 check the hours and call ahead in case of bad weather. Plugging the tire itself took only 10-15 minutes, and i was charged only $10. Had brought my car to Meineke the day before, and they were unable to find the giant nail in my tire. Bill's had no trouble diagnosing and fixing the problem within minutes. Have also had inspections done here, and have had the same great service and reasonable price. These guys are truly great, and all the other favorable reviews are a testament to this. This is your friendly, neighborhood mechanic that you can trust not to rip you off...in the middle of the city. Such a rare find today. I have been coming here for years after having some bad experiences with other mechanics in South Boston. I think these guys do a lot of work on the trucks that serve Seaport businesses, but they really know cars, too. Plus, they are good communicators, so I always feel more confident that I understand the problem, repair, and cost. I've had them do engine work on my Toyota Highlander and get all of my inspections done here. Their prices are fair and they are friendly and honest. Their location is convenient to downtown and the highways, but the shop is not well marked and tricky to find. It's behind the Harpoon Brewery and across from some unmarked utility building. Usually there are a bunch of box trucks parked in their parking lot. One thing to note: parking is very limited and they will usually ask you to pick up your car as soon as it's done. read more

Don't waste your time or money anywhere else. These guys are the best, and really the only non-dealership mechanic I will go to. Last year they did my brakes, rotors, and some other minor work at a fair price and on time. This year, when I started having some other (separate) issues, there was never even a question of where to go. These guys are accomplished mechanics. They work on all kinds of cars, trucks, and heavy machinery and have a loyal following of commercial customers. On multiple occasions, I have dropped a car off for a simple oil change and they'll notice things like low coolant or putting on a new inspection sticker... but they'll never try to upsell or push you to do things you don't need. Conversely, they'll tell you, "that should be fine for the next 6 months - you're fine now, but I'd come back then." It has been a long time since I've found a mechanic that I am happy to return to, but the longer I have had my cars' work done with these guys, the more I respect I have for them. read more

This is easily the best garage I've been to. We just moved to the area, and my brakes started making a funny noise right before I had to go away for the weekend (of course), and so I called Bill's up on a Friday morning. I believe I talked to his son, Billy, on the phone, who told me to bring the car right in and they would take a look at it right away for me (at least to see if it was safe to drive). I brought the car in, and Bill took a look around the tires and saw the problem right away (something about the brake pads). He told me he'd give me a call in a few hours about pricing. They also offered to give me a ride home. I kept clarifying that they would have it done the same day, because I just couldn't believe it. "It'll be done today? Completely? Fixed? Are you sure?" and they told me that they try their hardest to prioritize issues that could be really dangerous (e.g., brakes). Within one hour, Bill called me to tell me the very reasonable price, and then another hour later, he called me to say the car was ready. I've never had such an easy experience with a mechanic before. I truly can't say enough good things about Bill's, and I will definitely be taking my car back there from now on! read more
