Decided to take a trip out to Bill's Real Pit BBQ in Nashport. I ordered the Tex Sampler. It includes Broasted Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Beef. The chicken was nice and moist. Ribs were a little tough to me. The Pork and Beef both were super moist and flavorful. If I was ordering again they would be the 2 that I would get. The sides were phenomenal. The Macaroni Salad had the flavor of deviled eggs. Quite a surprise and definitely tasty. Also got baked beans which were made with chili beans, Lima beans and regular beans. Pretty tasty. What I have had has been good. Did do a carry out order once and it just wasn't as good as eating in. It is a little pricey.

Beans are just like my grandma use to make, maybe a few more secret things added but delicious.

So my Rating would be a 3.5 if that was possible. The BBQ isn't anything special. I have it the rating I did because 1. Out of the 200+ places I have been all over the country this place is hands down best bang for your buck. - I did the Tex Sampler (all meats) And 2 sides. Very tasty with large portions! We were here at 1:00 and the place was still full. Very friendly staff, fast service too. I had the pork sandwich and it was too big for me. Hubby had to finish it. It had a delicious smoky bbq taste. The smokers are out back of the place with piles of wood around. Truly is authentic BBQ. I took off a star for something I've never come across before - no prices on the menu. We don't like to spend a lot on lunch and prices would have helped. I'd hate to come here with my grandkids. They would way over order not knowing the prices. I did have enough time to look on here for an old menu that had prices and figured it would be a couple dollars more and I was right. The sandwiches were $2 more. However a huge glass of Coke was only $1.99! The appearance can be deceiving but don't let that stop you. Not much waiting room inside. The parking lot is pieced together with many patches. The booths and tables are well worn from years of use but it was clean. We will be back someday. read more

Very busy w/ a divvy atmosphere. The food is really delicious. I ordered a side of macaroni salad, and it was a generous helping and very delicious. The cole slaw was good, however the initial taste was not good (peppery) but once in the mouth and hit all places of the pallet, it taste very good with all the types of flavors. For the main course I ordered the "Tex Sampler" and the food was pretty good as well. read more

We drove about 15 minutes off the interstate to stop here on a road trip because the Yelp reviews were so good. The exterior screamed family-owned and dive-y, which actually usually leads to promising BBQ, and it was also fairly busy for lunch time on a Saturday. Sadly, however, our lunch did not live up to the hype. The go-to pulled pork sandwich was one of the worst I've ever had. The pork didn't taste smoked at all, and it came with the sauce cooked into it. That's always a no-no for me. It made for something very soggy and boiled tasting. The sauce itself is strongly ketchup based with no other dimension to it. Even on the side, I wouldn't have liked it. The baked beans were made in a similar sauce. Like drinking watery ketchup. I do give them credit for using an assortment of beans. It gave a nice texture to the traditional style. The sauce was so much that I couldn't finish them though. The kids had a hot dog meal and a grilled cheese meal. I also give them credit for splitting open the dog and grilling it, and the grilled cheese was the typical cheesy diner style that makes almost anyone happy. The big disappointment in the kids meals were the hand-cut fries we got as the sides. They should have been great, but without any trace of salt to be found, these ones were very, very bland. For dessert, we curiously tried the cherry filled sopapilla. Yes, sopapilla. I'm not sure the connection, but this BBQ place has an interesting selection of Mexican restaurant fair (including tacos and burritos). Anyhow, a sopapilla it wasn't. It was clearly baked and not fried, filled with canned pie filling. Much like the French fries, they managed to make something that should have been flavorful really tasteless. Even with the pre-packaged filling, frying would have greatly added to the texture and flavor. Overall, our lunch was just not good. Really surprising (and sad) for the 2nd highest rated restaurant in the Zanesville area. Save your gas weary traveler. This is not worth the journey off I-70. read more

Some really good menu items here, including the chicken in any form: BBQ style and the wings are quite yummy. The ribs can be quite good but beware of the cut they serve you. Sometimes they throw a fatty end cut that is not appealing. The pulled pork and brisket are not Texas style, and it can be a bit over-juiced. But the flavors are on point. The homemade onion rings are worthy as are the homemade desserts. I favor the German chocolate cake. Perfection! read more

Stopped in here the other day with my family to get some grub. Was told this is an amazing little hole-in-the-wall that serves up amazing ribs. Ended up being quite disappointed in the place. First off, it is tiny. They have hardly any seating, so we were stuck waiting for about half an hour. Not a huge deal, but I was told by some people waiting beside us that it is common to have to wait quite a while to get a seat. A number of people actually left while we waited to get a table. If this is a continuous issue, why not expand and allow for more seating room? Once we finally nabbed a table, I was annoyed by how uncomfortable the place was. It's a simple diner atmosphere, with hard plastic seats with no cushion. After about 10 minutes my back was starting to hurt and my butt went numb. Awesome.... I ordered their all you can eat ribs special, and requested a side of macaroni salad and onion rings. They brought the macaroni salad out before my meal, and I will say it was tasty. Very tasty actually. Definitely recommend the macaroni salad there. Then our meals came and I must say, I was sorely disappointed in the ribs. They were so dry. They give you extra sauce to put on them in case you don't like them so dry. But I prefer my meat to be moist without slathering it in a lake of sauce. I put more sauce on my ribs and realized I didn't like it at all. It isn't tangy, or sweet, or anything really. It's just....there.... The onion rings were really good though. So props to that. But if you are a rib joint, you gotta do better on your ribs. Having ok ribs and amazing sides doesn't do it for me. Lastly, the service wasn't that good. We had an older lady who I sarcastically remarked to my family was a "barrel of sunshine." She didn't seem to want to be there. If that is the case, find a new job maybe. I was informed they are only open for like 5 hours in the day, so it's not like they work super long shifts there. Just not a good experience for me. Pretty good BBQ. Pretty understated inside and out, but the wait staff is very friendly. Come here often and they'll remember you :) They are closed Mondays, but have specials every other day of the week, including all you can eat ribs, all you can eat chicken, .75 tacos, and other specials like baked steak and meatloaf. Love Bills BBQ! I'm not from the area, I'm from the opposite end of Licking county, but I still love this place. We started coming here several years ago because we have family who live up the road. Bills is now something like a family tradition. My step sister loves this place and loves to bring people to eat here. She has a disability and she likes to stick to a routine. So every Friday night she gets dinner from Bills. They've always been so kind to her, and it makes us love this place even more. My kids love coming here with their aunts, uncle, and Grandma. They enjoy the chicken and the French fries. I've enjoyed everything that I've ever ordered. Bills is a friendly place with a great "Mom & Pop" BBQ atmosphere. The food and prices are great. Got their sampler platter and was not impressed at all. Chicken was over cooked and mealy, pulled pork was in huge clumps and dry, not sure what the thing they called brisket was and the ribs had no flavor. Their sauce tastes like it's out of a bottle and a generic one at that. As for the sides, I got cole slaw and cucumbers and vinegar. I love pepper and the cole slaw had so much pepper that's all you could taste. Way overpowering. The cucumbers and vinegar were decent. And I got a nasty roll instead of the garlic bread the menu said comes with every meal. Not ever coming back, most disgusting place I've ate in awhile. read more

Hands-down the worst barbecue I've ever had. The pulled pork was undistinguishable from the brisket other than a slight color difference. The texture was slightly above baby food. It was as though the meats had sat in a crockpot for three days. My wife works at a nursing home and this is what they feed the folks who have difficulty chewing. The sides were good, baked beans and green onions and cucumbers but they were very small. The dinner roll was something out of the plastic bag. Bill's LOOKS like it will have amazing bbq. For me, it did not. The restaurant is small, crowded, and not kidding- I stuck to the booth like I have never stuck before. Not in a "hot summer day" way. In a "this booth hasn't been properly cleaned in years" way. It was PAINFUL, and I have never had that happen. The food was greasy, fatty, and just did not strike me as good quality. The meal was inexpensive- and you could taste it. Everyone in my group of 3 could not make it through even half of our dinner due to feeling full, bloated and really kind of awful. My family and I lived in Charleston South Carolina for four years. We know good quality barbecue. This was a real disappointment for us who appreciate high quality ingredients and cooking. read more

I have lived in the south for 20+ years so it is hard for me to find good BBQ in Ohio. But this is as close to southern BBQ as I have found. The meat was smoked, and the platter was piled high. I got the platter with ribs, pork, and beef. The brisket was excellent. the ribs were really good and the pork was good my least favorite of the three. I would recommend this place for good BBQ. The sweet tea was good southern style sweet tea. My biggest complaint would be the sauce. Its not a bad sauce but not a great sauce. I don't know if you can get the meat with out sauce but that is what I will ask for the next time. It's a red vinigery sauce and its not bad but not my favorite. I would like a little on the side. The cole slaw reminded me of my mom's which was great and the onion rings were really good and they give you a big helping. We finished with peanut butter cake which was awesome. So Final thoughts absolutely I'd come back the food was good. ribs where good chicken was awesome and the beef and pork was on point and the had cut fries are worth the drive alone the chocolate cake was your home variety but chocolate cake is chocolate cake. This place is the real deal. It's in the name! I went on a Thursday, which is all you can eat beef and pork for 7.99 which comes with 2 sides. (Onion rings were good and so was the Mac salad). Bill's BBQ is one of Zanesville's best kept secrets. It doesn't have much going for it in terms of atmosphere but that isn't why you go there. You go there for darn good, honest BBQ! The chicken and ribs are out of this world, as is the pulled pork. Not into BBQ? They also have excellent sopapias! Don't tell too many people about it though, the seating area is pretty small.
