This is a fun little family-run diner in Zanesville that was opened on New Years Day. They offer drive through pick up or seating inside with 6 small tables. The menu offers a wide variety of bbq meals, sandwiches and interesting sides. And don't forget soft serve ice cream. Prices are reasonable with most sandwiches running $7-10. Many locals were picking up bbq meals to go. We tried the Seafood Mac which came in a syrofoam cup as a generous portion. There were several small shrimp and maybe a little crab meat in a very creamy sauce. The potato soup was a special and was very good with a little spicy kick and full of new potato's. This is an amazing little spot. It's on a little corner with a drive-through around it so you don't have to get out of your car. It has so much flavor. This is recommended by other businesses, so I was initially going to go to Y Bridge brewing Company and they don't serve food and I asked what was great what was amazing and they suggested this place. Other businesses literally suggest this place. It is not a franchise or cookie cutter. It has a little indoor seating and then what looks like beautiful outdoor seating for spring and summer. The menu is huge. They have a delicious array of barbecue sauces to go with. The cashier is friendly, knows the menu well and knows what to recommend for kids, and is a very positive person to talk with. If I'm ever stopping over here, especially during spring, I have to come back. They have a brisket Sunday which is brisket on top of mashed potatoes, and it is fantastic. We were traveling today and stopped in for a great lunch! The portions are very fair for the price and the food was super tasty. The brisket was awesome, but I felt the pulled pork was a little fatty. The onion rings are beer battered and so yummy; the fries are thin and salty. The Mac and cheese was slightly sweet (I'm thinking it had cornbread crumbled in it) and while I liked it, it may not be everyone's taste. Cool place off the beaten path and I really enjoyed the overall vibe. I got the ribs and a sausage link. Unfortunately, the ribs did not seem to have any seasoning whatsoever and were therefore extremely disappointing. Sausage was dry and looked like it had been on the smoker for too long. It's my first visit in a while and I'm really disappointed. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. I also asked for spicy BBQ sauce. When I got home, I found: 1. The BBQ sauce was missing. 2. The chicken sandwich (without sauce) was super dry. 3. The sweet potato fries were undercooked. 4. Mac n cheese is like no other, it's actually a little sweet and I'd totally buy it again. The Parmesan potatoes was my second favorite and I didn't try the coleslaw and potato salad but everyone else liked everything too. We ordered food from here last week at work; I had the chicken, green beans, and peach cobbler - everything was great! Usually with chicken bbq, I often notice that the meat is bland and dry bc restaurants focus on the their pork and brisket, but not Dave's! The chicken was juicy and so delicious!!! Also the beans and cobbler were flavorful and the cobbler was not too sweet. I will have to check them out in person sometime.. Would I recommend? Heck ya! read more

This place is a gem; you should stop here for a bite! Stopped here while on a road trip. Didn't know what to expect; as others have mentioned this is a small place (maybe 5 two-tops?) with a drive through. In the time of COVID, we stepped inside to order and took it to go. I got a brisket sandwich (good), a coney dog (ok), and my daughter got a hamburger (good), and fries (good). I also got a side of Mac n cheese which was TRANSCENDENT! I am not the same person now as I was before I ate this Mac n cheese. That is how good it was. On the return trip, we are stopping for more of that Mac n cheese, to convince the remainder of our family of the genuineness of our transformation. That's how good it was. Ladywife and i hit this roadside Zanesville, Ohio, joint on a Thursday midday long drive from Columbus back home to northern Virginia, and we both agreed we'd stop by again on a return Ohio trip someday. Bottom line - Solid, good, satisfying barbecue. We got served relatively quickly considering a big to-go order was ahead of us. She got brisket sandwich, I got pulled pork sandwich, we split a Diet Pepsi and a 'kickin' Mac and cheese side.' Both sandwiches were heavy with smoked meat - they don't skimp. The meat was tender and done nicely. On your basic white sandwich buns - you will need a fork as the bread gets soggy quick. The hot bbq sauce is nothing too fiery, it's a mild heat. The Mac and cheese was perfectly alright - boxed Mac and cheese, with some spice added. Total around $21. Good value. Worthwhile. There's limited seating indoors; we sat outside on the picnic table-like wood tables under an awning. Perfectly fine for a September midday. read more

The brisket had absolutely no smoke flavor as a matter of fact therewas no flavor at all. Parmesan potatoes tasted nothing like parmesan or butter but had a vinegar flavor. And with places like this, you don't get the interminable, pretentious resume/lecture filled with all the "in," hip, food-trend buzzwords before you even look at the damn menu. The pulled pork samich was outstanding -so juicy it destroyed the bun - just the way it should. The hot sauce was mild but good and tangy. Didn't really need it though, the flavor of the meat was more than enough. Also the chicken wings. You know, you get heavily spiced and sauced wings and think, man I love this fat and skin, this salty and spicy- but you never really taste the chicken. No so here. Just spice rubbed, BBQ'd and ....they're chickeny! And meaty! Who'da thought!? Also loved the kickin beans. A unique taste I couldn't really put my finger on. Some hot pepper, little sour, some ground beef of all things- I don't know, but sure wolfed those down. Unique. Cole slaw was fine, the usual. Only bad thing were the sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, it made a real mess of a sandwich and the bottom half of the bun was soggy and not especially appetizing. My family and I ate there today for our monthly lunch together. We didn't know the restaurant existed until about a week ago thanks to Facebook. We all really enjoyed our food! I had the Kickin' Tater and really liked it. Service was very good, the young lady that took our orders was really nice and clearly a hard worker. Had some of the most delicious beef brisket ever at a family gathering this past December 2022. After my 22 year old college-going, tight-budget meal-prepping son went back for a fourth plate I tried a bite and wow! Excellent! This place is legit delicious! We order pulled pork, which was lean and moist. Sides included the Mac & cheese (which was oddly sweet), the kickin beans (peppery more than spicy), and fried mushrooms which were perfectly seasoned and breaded. Then to finish, a peanut butter ice cream! OH SO YUMMY!! Also, prices very inexpensive and I felt like the portions were close to two servings (at least for me). I got the ribs. 1/2 rack. At first glance, this was a great deal. They are huge. After looking for the "good" tender meat, I found that there was less tender meat on this entire meal than there is on a McRib. However, the sweet sauce is the best I have every had. The sauce alone got this dinner a 3 star. If it were not for the flavor of these ribs, this would get a 0 star review. Make some serious changes to the ribs. They had a very impressive menu with something for everyone on it, whether you want bbq or not. We had the pulled chicken meal and brisket meal, which each came with two sides and a drink for a bargain $8.99. The portions were very generous and we had the sweet potato fries, onion rings, mac n cheese, and the beans.... OH THE BEANS!!!!! If 6 stars was an option, Grillin Daves would have gotten them. Driving east on 70, we were looking for an authentic local restaurant and are so glad we stopped here. Starting with the girls at the counter who helped us make our choice, it was a fantastic experience. They were kind and honest in their recommendations. We enjoyed the ribs, the big brisket sandwich, the pulled chicken and the brisket "sundae". Each were delicious. The meat was tender, and the homemade BBQ sauces were extremely flavorful. Thank goodness we also saved room for dessert. The brownie sundae was a huge hit, and it was tough to decide on a flavor of milkshake and did not go wrong. To top it all off, when we told them we had a puppy in the car they made a doggie sundae with ice cream and dog treats for her. We were out driving and saw the sign for this little restaurant. Pulled up Yelp to see reviews and we decided to check it out. It's heaven for meat lovers. My boyfriend got the Dave's Special which was a sampler of all the meats (pork, brisket, ribs, chicken, wings) for $16.99. My sis and I had pulled pork plates $13.99 each which included 2 sides. Drinks are separate. Sauces are on the table. The meats are the star and delicious. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad but loved the mash n gravy; boyfriend said meat was flavorful, tender and moist. It's a small place with handwritten chalkboard style menu & pricing. Small inside with seating for about a dozen folks. It was 80° outside on our visit and about 70° inside with one small ceiling fan to move the air. We saw a couple picnic tables outside. They have a drive-thru for easy pickup and it was non-stop during our visit. Will definitely use that option too. Highly recommend for casual, no frills yummy food. My family stopped in last evening for the first time and everything we has was delicious. The brisket I had was incredibly tender and like all BBQ should strive to do, it can stand proudly on its own without a sauce. The sauces were also great. There is a robust smokiness to the meats, which I found was exceptional. We also had a variety of other meats, sides and the whole family wanted to try everything that everyone selected.
