Fast simple and affordable, I've always a good experience here. My fav place for a lunch salad but they have good dinner menu too.

Don't go if you're in a hurry. I've stopped here twice on consecutive weeks, and have received great food each time. Last week, I chose the Tuna Melt with Fresh Fries. The sandwich was perfect The tuna salad was delicious! The bread grilled perfectly, and the cheese melted through. This week, I chose the Charbroiled Chicken Sandwich with fries. Again, the sandwich was delicious! A standard GFS style chicken breast served on a perfectly toasted bun with a generous portion of tomato and lettuce. Both weeks the fresh cut fries were the perfect "fair style" fry: brown, not too salty, crispy outside, fluffy inside. Both weeks, the servers were delightful! Very accommodating! Very attentive despite them being overwhelmed with tables. My drinks weren't kept filled because of it, but they were refilled eventually both times. Now for the negatives: As others have mentioned; this place has an open seating plan. For a first timer, it's confusing to see where the seating is because as you walk in you walk into the bar, and the seating is off to each side, and is hard to see open tables. Secondly, this leads to an uneven dispersal of patrons and thus some waitresses seem to be overwhelmed while other's seemed to be standing around. Final assessment: The food is terrific! 5 stars! The service would be 5 stars if they worked out the kinks on their seating. 3 stars. The decor is dated. The pictures on the wall were from 20-25 years ago and were faded. It could use a little freshening up. But my chief complaint is the service times. My first trip took a little over 2 hours for a tuna melt and fries. 2 hours for 2 sandwiches. How do I rate my experience? I'm not sure. Over all , our visit lasted 2-hours for what amounted to 2 burgers, fries, and drinks. But, the staff was very apologetic, offered us a free appetizer when she realized our food was terribly late, and in the end, the manger came to our table and comped us one of our meals. Apparently their system "glitched" and our order was "lost", and never made it to the kitchen. Once the waitress realized the issue, I'm guessing she entered the order incorrectly, because once the food came out one of the sandwiches were totally incorrect. She realized it as she was sitting it on the table, apologized profusely, and left with the food. We waited again. Now to the food. The hand cut fair style fries were exactly what you'd expect. crisp, brown, and perfectly seasoned. The burgers were done exactly as requested. Medium Well. The toppings were fresh, cold and crisp. The patty was seasoned well. Again no complaints. The ambience is small town sports bar/family restaurant. With many TVs up front at the bar, and along the walls to entertain you while waiting. The decor is dated, but in decent shape for its age. Before posting this review, I read through past ratings, and I see other service issues in the past with long wait times. But, the reviews for fast, quick friendly service seem to outweigh them. So, I'm going to chalk my experience up to a REALLY bad day. But, I will warn anyone that there is the potential of a long wait for your food. read more

I ordered the turkey sub and it was delicious. It really hit the spot. My husband had the grilled chicken with fries. He also enjoyed his meal. The Oreo Brownie with ice cream was warm and scrumptious. The server was prompt and attentive. The restaurant was loud because it was pretty crowded and patrons were watching sports on the tv. The reason for 4 stars is the table was covered in crumbs. I would definitely try this restaurant again. read more

Tonight we had our first experience at Shades in heath. I can't believe I've never been there before but let me tell you it was amazing! The wings were huge and so saucy, the fries were so so good, and the spinach artichoke dip was fantastic!!! The kids loved their chicken too. The employees were so kind and constantly there when we needed them and kept our drinks full. Multiple patrons came up to us to tell us how good the kids were being and how beautiful our family is . At the end we were told by our waitress that someone had paid for our meal. I truly almost cried. They wanted to remain anonymous but we are seriously so appreciative. I know that bill wasn't cheap for 5 of us. If the person who paid happens to read this, we seriously appreciate you paying for our meal. That was so so kind. Overall an amazing experience read more

My wife and I have been here a few times, and the food is always great. When you arrive you can seat yourself where you please. Service is always awesome, and I'm not sure where you can find better. I personally opted for the Philly sandwich with onion rings, my wife had the Chicken Tacos. Both were very tasty and filling. The waitress was very efficient in keeping our tea filled and taking care of anything else we needed! read more

What has happened to this place? Ordered take out tonight and it was anything but good. First off they put hot food in a bag with cold salads which made them warm and soggy, and didn't put any dressing for the salads in the bag even ordered an extra one witch I paid for. Maybe it's a one off but the experience was pretty lousy from the service, to the order all sauces for wings and salad dressings were forgotten, no plastic ware or napkins on the to go order, soggy greasy wings skimpy Italian salad , basically a bowl of broth for chowder. One positive is it's-probably a good place for a large group as they have ample seating at bar and both dining areas. read more

We often travel to Heath for their awesome flea market and finally decided to try Shade since it is right across the street from the flea market.  They were quite busy and we had to wait maybe ten minutes for a seat.  Our waitress was very nice and kept our drinks filled.   Their menu is huge!!!  They have a little bit of everything on there and it took us a minute to make a choice.  I settled for their cowboy burger with fries, and the hubby had two coneys with fries.  My burger was pretty good, but there was way too much BBQ sauce on it, so much so that I was covered in sauce the minute I picked up the burger.  Their buns are also way too small for the burger itself, so keeping all the items in between the buns was difficult.  The hubby had zero issues with the coneys and said they were tasty.  Overall, the food was average and nothing too special.  With that said, we will probably try them out again since their menu is extensive and the staff is so nice. read more

This place was pretty nice but it was kinda cold inside. The service was nice but they never said you're welcome when we said thank you. The food was delicious, I ordered a grilled cheese and sour cream fries, I didn't know that the sour cream fries were already on my plate when they brought it out, I just thought the potato wedges on my plate came with the grilled cheese so I asked the waiter where they were and they pointed at the potato wedges and said that's them, I honestly thought they were fries with sour cream on them. Been here a few times but today was probably the worst I've ever seen it. Service was fine but the food a different story. My daughter's cheese pizza looked like chopped up pieces of a leftover pizza. It was so bad she didn't even like it. My open faced sub was very mediocre and layered heavily with a thick cheese. For a child's pizza and a small open faced sub it took almost 30 minutes or more to get the food. Restaurant was not super busy. Do not recommend the open faced subs or a child's pizza from kids menu. read more

Really good food. Never disappointed by our food. Service can be more attentive though. Got the wild fries as an appetizer, wanted to receive those then order main course when app arrived. Waited 20 minutes after the appetizer to be able to order the rest of meal. Server waited on the larger quantity tables and made us wait. Granted it was Friday night at 7pm but we felt a bit ignored and not as important as the potentially larger tipped tables. read more

Very disappointed in their less than standard "we called last call on the kitchen" before closing time. Sorry but restaurants are meant to serve food within their stated hours. If you're going to randomly decide close the kitchen early that should be posted on your website & maybe even on your door. Such a waste especially in such a small town you'd think they'd be eager for paying customers. read more

Wow I am impressed at their response to covid. Other than the more regular sanitizer stations, I would say this place tops the charts for acknowledging covid regulations in regards to social distancing and managing customer experience. I actually believe their experience and customer focus has improved. read more

Service was prompt & friendly. We had garden salad, chili dogs & fries, the Councilman, and coleslaw. The dog was Nathan's brand with homemade sauce. HD sauce was not meaty,had beans, but was very tasty. Salad was fresh and generous. They make their own salad dressings, but I do vinegar & oil. Councilman sandwich was really good, good amount of meat. Fries came out hot & crispy. Cole slaw was a vinegar dressing rather than creamy. read more

Went here on a Saturday night during the busy time, they handle crowds pretty well. Most of the staff is filled by young ladies. Their prices are relatively cheap, and the food is well worth the price! The inside looks a lot like roosters, and they have plenty of TVs of course. read more

Not busy for a Friday evening. We sat ourselves. I noticed people who got there after we did got their food before us. It took over 40 minutes to get our wings. The 10 traditional wings were burnt. The 10 boneless wings were tasteless and made me sick after eating them. The waitress did not check on us and did not offer to refill drinks. Definitely not worth $16 for 10 wings. read more

My husband and I stopped for dinner on a Monday night. It was not busy, but it still took quite a while for our food to come out. That wasn't a big deal. We weren't in a hurry to go anywhere. I got the turkey burger. My husband got the grilled chicken sandwich. I'm guessing the reason it took so long to get our food was because it sat back in the kitchen waiting to be brought out. Both of our sandwiches were cold. My husband even said his chicken was cold in the middle, like it hadn't been cooked long enough. Neither sandwich had a very flavorful taste. They tasted like the frozen chicken and burgers you would get at Costco or Sam's Club. When we walked out, I told my husband I would never go back there. read more

Pretty good stand by- not the best I ever had but reliable and good variety. My favorite is the spicy chicken sandwich or getting just the spicy chicken and a double garden salad. Their cheesy fries are not healthy but are delicious. Strong beer selection with lots of local crafts. read more

While in the area I decided to try Shade on 30th. This sports bar offers a wide variety of menu items and local craft beer. The friendly staff and COVID-19 safe atmosphere lends itself to a great place for a casual meal. read more

I headed over at about 9 on a Saturday and the place wasn't too busy which I was happy with. I stood around the hostess station for a few minutes and nobody seemed to pay me any attention. The bartender eventually invited me to sit wherever I like and I placed my order there at the bar. The atmosphere was nice enough and I couldn't object to the music, but there seemed to be a lot of staff hanging around bored and talking very loudly, complaining about various things. This was a bit tiring. When my food arrived, nachos, onion rings, and a pulled pork sandwich, I was underwhelmed immediately; It all looked very unappetizing. The food was unilaterally unseasoned, the pork was dry (I assume from sitting out for a while), onion rings were bland and greasy, and the nachos were a mess on a far too small plate. The beer selection is good enough, but I'd rather go to a Rooster's. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I mean - really wanted to. There aren't many options for us out in Newark and were fairly excited upon finding Shade, going in and seeing their very extensive menu. We went on Friday night around 9pm. The place was fairly crowded but the bartender acknowledged us fairly quickly. I was a little weirded out because the guys in the kitchen were making weird gestures in my direction and after turning around, determined it couldn't be at anyone behind us. All the waitresses were loitering near the end of the bar and gossiping loudly. Not really the type of atmosphere or treatment anyone would want. We wanted to get a couple of things to snack on. We initially requested the buffalo chicken dip but were advised that they were out. So, we settled on pretzel sticks, 6 wings and sour cream fries. So... pretzel sticks. They turned out pretty well. The cheese dip was OK, the pretzels were soft. The wings. So, I prefer my wings crispy and asked for them in hot garlic. What came out to me was probably the worst wings I have ever seen/ tasted in my life. They were crispy for sure. Like dead, I pulled them out of the frier because they were dropped in there a week ago crispy. They also came out in what appeared to be a grease bath. It definitely wasn't wing sauce. To make things worse, after lifting the wings up, there were literally burned fries underneath and in the grease pool. BURNED DARK BROWN FRIES. I mean... REALLY? I can't speak to the sour cream fries because well... I never got them. After getting the wings, I was done. We got our check and ran for it. I might go back to try a sandwich, but I can guarantee you I will never touch anything that goes into that fryer ever again. Honestly, I probably won't step foot in there again. For being a chain that received a decent amount of good reviews, I am beyond disappointed. read more

Is this Roosters? Almost. The owners ran Roosters for some time and bought a place in Canal Winchester and revamped it to a Roosters style place. Through a non-compete contract, they were not allowed to offer certain menu items for 5 years. Now they own this place and one in Athens. This Heath location looks just like a Roosters since it's in an old Bob Evan's building. The food, just like Shade on the Canal in Canal Winchester. THE SAME. It's just has Henry Hawk replacing the Canal Frog. Good food, always consistent. Value not too bad. I'd rather eat here than at Roosters. read more

Think Roosters Wings, only better. Décor and seating literally look exactly like a Roosters restaurant. However I will say the wings and sauces here are far superior. Wings are very meaty and a great value. I'm new to the Newark/Heath/Granville area but I'll say this would be my go to wing spot up here. read more
