Hand cut, fresh, fried okra
Joseph M.

Pulled up to the livestock auction house and thought for sure I was lost. I was starving so am glad that I opened the door and confirmed the existence of this gem. Walking into the building you wouldn't think much of the place, but once you get into the restaurant you feel like you are in a typical Texas roadhouse. Cozy, warm, homey, and delightful all around. I asked the waiter if the burger was cooked properly or the Houston style (burnt to a crisp and disgusting). Fortunately, being so far away from Houston, I was assured the burger would be nice and juicy: indeed it was. Fresh cut, perfectly fried okra alongside a juicy burger made this meal perfect. I wish I could give this place a diamond rating. Texas Michelin Star Worthy for sure. Got to meet Billy as well. True gentleman. I'll be back, even though it's a 5 hour round trip visit, this place is nestled amongst some beautiful countryside. So very happy I stumbled upon this true gem

Senior catfish with beans and fried okra.

After looking at property at Lake Limestone we decided to try this place as it was highly rated. Don't let the outside appearance fool you it's a gem inside. Home cooking at its best. We started off with potato skins that were the best I've seen. Plenty of cheese, onions, bacon and homemade ranch dressing. My fried catfish was excellent with a side of onion rings and mac-n-cheese. My wife had the senior size catfish plate and could not finish - too much. Our daughter had the chicken fried chicken and she could not finish it either it was so big. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was superb and provided by Bubba. Oh and btw we got a single slice of coconut cream pie to go and enjoy when we got home it was outstanding. We'll be back!!!!

The good: - The steak tasted yummy and was not dry. - The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. - The small salad bar was good with homemade croutons. - The rolls were TO DIE FOR! - My husband really liked the green beans. The bad: - There was nobody at the entrance, so we had to figure out where the entrance to the dinner was. - Other dinners had to tell us that we can sit anywhere. - The fries tasted like fish and they were stone cold. - Both mine and my husband's steaks were overcooked.

Nice surprise! Never would have known the restaurant was there if I hadn't looked for a place on Yelp! Friendly staff and clean, cute restaurant. We started with the salad bar. There were a few people that were loading up before it was our turn so the lettuce and other items were out. I asked the server for lettuce and she was great! The salad bar was replenished in two minutes. Nice selection of items, dressings and awesome croutons! I decided to try the fried chicken. Oh my! Great chicken, gravy was amazing, nice soft roll and pretty good fried okra. BIG portion! Plenty of left overs. I would definitely order again! Husband ordered the shrimp -large order. He requested 5 grilled and 5 fried shrimps with beans and coleslaw. Shrimps were good. He enjoyed the beans and coleslaw was great! We ordered chicken strips to go for our dogs. When we got home and opened the to go box we were surprised at how big the order was! Enough food for two days for our monster dogs! We would eat here again! Don't let the exterior fool you. Very good eats!! : )

On the way back to DFW from College Station we stopped at Sam's on Sunday, 3/8. I was so glad we…read moredid!! This place has an absolutely amazing lunch buffet! The salad stuff was fresh and the dressings were all good. On the hot side of the buffet they had chicken friend steak, ham, turkey and dressings, bbq brisket and friend chicken. Everything was excellent! The sides were all great. I imagine their homemade pies are amazing but I was too full to try any of them! I will 100% be back anytime I am nearby!!!

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.

BEST.STEAK.EVER. One…read moreof the most delicious meals I've ever had. Started with a simple little lettuce salad with dressing, accompanied by crackers with whipped butter!! Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!

This time I was able to arrange to be here on a Saturday expressly to visit Leona. It was a 2 hour drive down from Dallas but hey, it's an adventure! I was not disappointed. I got there about an hour before they opened and there were 30-40 people in line already. I grabbed a spot on one of the benches that line the porch and watched more people pouring in. Over the next hour the line got longer and longer. I definitely got there none too soon. At opening time the nice lady came out and started bringing in each party one at a time. It moves fast and I was seated pretty quickly. The place is pretty huge so they seat a lot of people at a time. Judy Lee was my very sweet server and she kept me checked on and my tea glass full the whole time The "salad bar" is pretty simple. Just lettuce with a few tomatoes and the obviously homemade dressings. There is also slaw which was VERY good. The steak came with a scoop of mashed potatoes and a yeast roll. The streak is definitely the star of the show. The standard size is 10 oz with the option to add additional oz's. I opted for a 14 oz version which was probably closer to 20. They don't cut you short by any means. I have to say that this was one of the best and most perfectly cooked steaks I have ever had. I have had my share of prime restaurant steaks and this rivaled them all. Juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. It had the largest rib cap of any steak I have ever seen. Simply delicious. A 4 hour round trip for dinner might be a bit much but really worth it for the experience. If I find myself somewhere a little closer I'll be doing it again.
