Wow, this place has some good food! Husband and I had catfish, kids had grilled cheese and corndog. Everyone was very happy! Small portions are still a little more than we would eat in one sitting. My reason for 4 stars rather than 5 was the service. Hold on... everyone was VERY FRIENDLY and polite. However, they seemed a bit overwhelmed with the house full, and no one ever really checked on us. This place is small so 3 waiters should be able to tend to everyone easily, but when I have to flag someone down to get my check it's a problem. It will not stop me from going back, I'll just make sure I choose a table that is in clear sight of the staff instead of a quiet corner. read more

Visiting with friends and enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner at Billy B's. Ordered a juicy hamburger which was perfectly prepared with fries . The burger was as large as the bread and the bread was soft and yummy. The small salad bar didn't have many options but it was a welcomed change to a side salad. The decor is rustic being in the front portion of a stockbarn. The vibe is small town TX all the way. The desserts are home made cakes, though I didn't try a piece, our friends raved about their taste. We stumbled in while passing through on our way to Waco, and were tempted to check out the auction but ordered lunch instead. My husband had the ham and cheese sandwich, made with real grilled ham, not your deli style, and said it was the best ham sandwich he had ever eaten. My chicken salad was very tasty. Bucket list double meat bacon cheeseburger and homemade hamburger steak with freshly made mash potatoes and brown gravy!!!! It was amazing and I haven't had any better home cooked than Billy B's. Oh my gosh! The food was incredible! The chicken friend chicken sandwich was so tasty with a hefty piece of chicken. The hamburger was thick and juicy and the added jalapeños were grilled! Yum! The buns are extra special, sweet and soft, maybe homemade. Speaking of homemade, the fries and onion rings were both homemade and there was no chance we were leaving any on our plates. Had one of the worst steaks I have had in 10 years. Loaded with gristle and fat. Only able to eat about one third of the 14oz. ribeye, left about a third uneaten and the rest was a pile of crap cut out. Wife's hamburger steak was crusty black on the bottom and dry. Make sure if you order the ribeye special that you don't order it before 5:00. I got charged the normal price for my crappy steak because I ordered it at 4:50, waiter said there was no ability to change that. So the time is when you get it or finish it, it is the exact time you tell the waiter what you want. We drive about 100 miles round trip just to eat there. May not waist the time any more. read more

Quaint small diner inside the livestock auction building. Hint: you don't have to be going to the auction to stop in here. I had the catfish plate with pinto beans, fried okra, and hush dogs (hushpuppies). It was the best catfish plate I've had in a long time. Catfish breading was seasoned really well, the hushpuppies were really something special. I think the damned things were homemade not out of a Sisco bag. Really excellent. The pinto beans were spot on. The okra was just normal but fried perfectly, hot and crispy. Seriously worth going out of your way for. Can't wait to come back to have a burger. I want to love this place. I truly do but it just didnt meet expectations. The food was mediocre at best and the service was somewhat slow. Its a tiny place with seating placed shoulder to shoulder. The wait staff appears to be parolees and that's not a problem, but their isnt enough of them during the rush nights. By the time our order got to us my table was hangry. The order was 7 shades of messed up but since we waited so long for the food (every but of an hour) we just ate it anyway. When I read the reviews of Billy B's, I knew I had to try it out on my overnight in Groesbeck. It's close to town, about two miles from my hotel and the high school & football stadium, and real easy to find. So I went. Since I was alone, I was a little nervous when I entered the restaurant. There were two large parties waiting and I figured that as a single, I'd have to wait forever to eat. But the hostess has a small table that was unoccupied and I was seated immediately. My server, Michael was highly attentive and extremely service-oriented. The place was packed, and servers were whizzing around, but I didn't wait for anything. In fact, I was amazed at how well I was cared for. The menu is excellent -- varied and affordable. I ordered a grilled small pork chop -- a risky move in a place that has an extensive fried food menu -- but it was absolutely superb, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. The salad is a trip to the salad bar, and you've got a fair selection of options to load on. Though I don't eat gluten, the meal was satisfying and there were enough options on the menu that I wasn't stuck with just one or two choices. Would I go back? Absolutely. And I'd encourage you to go. You won't be disappointed. Ask for Michael for super service. read more

Stopped here after the One Act Play competition at Groesbeck High School and just had to share how much we enjoyed the food. The salad and entries were fantastic. We had a large party, and the service was superb. I had the chicken-fried steak and others in our party loved the grilled chicken, shrimp salad, top-sirloin, and seafood platter. This place is quite an experience! At suppertime they are packed to the rafters! The dining room is small but if you don't mind literally rubbing elbows with people at other tables then it is worth your time. The noise level is almost deafening when the dining room is full.
