The service was amazing. My parents frequent this location and they remembered a challenge they had the last time they were there. Made a point to acknowledge it and said they changed the process in the kitchen. Really appreciated that. The food was great overall. I ordered the catfish and shrimp plate. Loved the beer battered fries. The fish could have been cooked a little longer, but it didn't take away from the experience nor the taste. Would 10/10 return. We tried this place for lunch recently and had a good time. The place is massive with plenty of tables and booths inside. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We tried the kid's shrimp plate, fried catfish, and the bacon burger. The portion sizes are huge for the price. The flavor on the catfish was good. WOW!!! I am really impressed with this place. Let's start by saying our waitress Miriam was amazing and she recommended the fried pickles and they were yummy. I had the chicken fried chicken which had the best batter I have ever had on chicken fried chicken. My husband had a burger and onion rings and he really enjoyed it. The place has lots of seating and it's a pretty cool set up with a large open seating area and a farm house look. This is truly a treat for our visit to Mexia!!! read more

I came here for dinner on a work trip. I had a very nice waiter who took my order for an 8 oz sirloin. I didn't order the 8 oz ribeye because it was $9 more. Food was good. When I was delivered the bill, I noticed I was charged for the ribeye. I told the waiter I had ordered the sirloin. He said he was sorry and would fix it. The bar manager came over and rudely said, "ahh we can't change the bill if the food has already been eaten!" She added that they don't even have an 8 oz sirloin. I showed her the menu where it was listed. She said she could give me a small discount. I replied that I ordered the sirloin and would pay for that. I didn't question the waiter about which steak he brought, I just accepted it and ate it. I then asked for the restaurant manager. She was more apologetic but also said they didn't serve an 8 oz sirloin, so I showed her the menu. Finally she agreed to discount my bill the $9. Note to self, don't come back, but if you do,be sure not to order the 8 oz sirloin listed on the menu. It doesn't seem to exist and they'll bill you for the more expensive steak and make you feel bad about not paying it. read more

We went all out and started with the sampler appetizer which was almost a meal in itself. We then had the fried catfish which was very tasty but the hush puppies could have been fresher. The service was great and our waitress was very efficient and friendly. The restaurant was much larger than we expected but seemed well maintained. Farm House is a tasty place to stop if you're ever driving through the Mexia, TX area. There aren't very many options regarding food in this town, but Farm House is the top of my list every time I visit. I have heard the catfish is very good although I have yet to try it. I have tried their pork chop and their grilled chicken sandwich. They are both average I would say, they aren't amazing but they aren't bad either, right in the middle. Service was a little slow both times I've visited even though it was pretty slow, guest wise, at the time. This isn't a restaurant you should drive out of your way for, but if driving through it's a good meal and the decor is nice to look at as well. read more

The peach cobbler looked raw. Everything we ate tasted burnt. Like the grease needed to be changed out. The coleslaw was terrible. Pinto beans and green beans tasted old. This place had been recommended by the locals so I thought I'd give it a shot. The waitress suggested either the shrimp or the hamburger (she said the patties are made fresh every day and never frozen). I had the fried shrimp dinner and subbed the coleslaw for a baked sweet potato. The shrimp had a batter on it that was so crunchy and light. The fries are obviously fried in the same oil because they had a slight batter on them that just added to the flavor. The beans were your typical pinto beans and the baked sweet potato was so light and fluffy. Will definitely come here again! read more

Soft and not chewy - cooked right. Wifey had the patty melt and it was also very good. The hush puppies were super good! Little jalapeño and onion flavor in there - um-um! But then the finisher was the peach cobbler and ice cream. Oh yeah!! Friend had the oysters and said they were just right. Two meals, a beer, glass of wine, extra hush puppies (oh yeah), and cobbler totaled $50. If your traveling through Mexia you need to stop here. read more

The staff was very friendly and efficient. We were waited on and served very quickly. I will give it five stars for that experience. I'm only giving it three because I really felt like the food was all the same and it tasted exactly alike. Oysters should not be fried in a catfish batter! It really took away from the flavor of them. The cat fish was cooked properly but it was also too spicy, The hush puppies weren't good at all. Everything was too spicy, we could not eat it. I know we are in Texas but I don't think everything has to be spicy to be good. You definitely will not walk away hungry here! read more

We were visiting for the weekend and was fortunate to enjoy Farm House twice during our stay. A rustic, no thrills local restaurant which is a favorite of the local residents. Our friends encouraged us to try the fried catfish and they didn't lead us wrong. It was deliciously prepared and the portion was more than generous.
