We've been staying at a ranch for a week and this restaurant is by far the best food we've had all week! The food was delicious. The wait staff was very attentive. The coconut shrimp was crispy and fried to perfection! Everything was delicious Definitely a must try!

This place deserves 5 star rating all the way. I was impressed with their friendly service and atmosphere of the restaurant. Their fried pickles for starter and the delicious ribeye steak was excellent and highly recommended. I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area.

Our server was amazing and the food was great! It was not packed the day we arrived and we were celebrating my wife's graduation. I ordered the ribeye while my wife ordered the salmon and we got fried pickles as an appetizer. Everything had great flavor! They also give complimentary rolls which were warm and freshly made. The peach cobbler and cheesecake were delicious! We definitely will be coming back when we come thru Madisonville! Couldn't get anymore pics because all the food was gone.

Appetizers- friend pickles and squash! Delicious!

Good food! Combo app of fried pickles and friend squash - zucchini and yellow with homemade ranch. The rolls are warm and soft with melt on your knife butter! Our table also had crab cakes, salad, & chicken strips. Good service! Quick response to request of napkins and tea refills. Only downside is the parking - a challenge at lunch on a weekday. Clean restaurant with Texas ambiance. I love to sit in a booth with the textured leather. Adds to the western charm!

Food: The table rolls were delicious- light and fluffy with perfect whipped easy-to-spread butter. I got Baja tacos with rice. Oh so yummy! Though if you don't like a. It if spice you'll want to street clear or get extra water. I ordered a white wine and it came in a chilled glass. Talk about feeling fancy! Son got sirloin with baked potato and broccoli. Bake potato was huge (bigger than grandma's). Stake was good (though not as good as grandpas lol) Hubs got chicken fired stake, fried okra, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Road trip hunger! When asked 'how was it' he said 'it's good'. When poked further to describe good he said tender and chewy in a good way. Desert: DO NOT LEAVE HERE WITHOUT EATING THE COBBLER! It's small so easy to share even if you think you're full or even better get your own and don't share. ;) Restrooms: Clean and well stalked. Lightweight entrance doors and wide out swing stall doors make easy for accommodating disabilities/injuries. And last but never least... Service: Our waitress Megan was a delight. She was friendly, kind, and thorough. Will definitely save this place as a come back to!

Paige gave great service! Get off I-45 and drive 5 miles off course for outstanding food! Great steaks, chicken or fish. Homemade! The smell is nice and food great.

Don't come in a hurry. We waited 10 minutes to be seated and over 30 for a burger. (It wasn't full, they are just on their own timeline).

The salad stuff was fresh and the dressings were all good. On the hot side of the buffet they had chicken friend steak, ham, turkey and dressings, bbq brisket and friend chicken. Everything was excellent! The sides were all great. I imagine their homemade pies are amazing but I was too full to try any of them! I will 100% be back anytime I am nearby!!!

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.

I was the only speck of pepper in a room full of salt. With all eyes on me, I gave a wave, some folks smiled back and understood what i was doing others weren't quite sure what to make of it. The vibe is old-school texas dining. It was mofos in there with actual spurs on their boots. Clean, no-frills, and straightforward. Concrete floors, a mix of mismatched chairs in earth tones with the occasional pop of red. You seat yourself, and service is quick. my server showed up almost immediately with a laminated 8.5x11 menu featuring a tight lineup of Americana comfort food. I went with the chicken fried steak, with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes on the side. The Brussels sprouts were split and grilled, simply done with a bit of butter and salt--nothing fancy, but solid. The mashed potatoes? A perfect base for the white gravy, which was the standout on the plate. The chicken fried steak itself had well-seasoned breading, but I wish the meat had been more tender. That said, the gravy was so good it honestly deserves to be bottled and sold at H-E-B. Because when you have already committed to overeating why stop, i tried the peach cobbler dessert. I should have stopped, this was terrible, it looked like someone dumped a can of peaches in syrup over raw dough...it tasted just the same. Such a let down with everything else being at the very least good.

Never expected myself to drive two hours for some ribeye steak, but it was worth the experience. We…read morerandomly scrolled on YouTube and watched someone rated this THE BEST in Texas so we had to check it out. What makes this place unique is that they use charcoal, have make their own rub, you can order as many ounces up to 32oz I believe, and they only sell ribeye steaks. The place is called the general store because that's what it used to be when first started doing business in the 1980s but later expanded and converted into a steakhouse. We got there at 4pm and there was a little bit of a line already. The restaurant is only open three days a week each day from 5:30 to 9. On Thursday they have fried catfish and Friday and Saturday they sell only steak. The minimum order starts at 10oz and each ounce increment is a little bit extra charge. We ordered the 24 ounce to be shared between the two of us total is about $70 and we still have some leftover. The charcoal flavor was not overpowering, but the seasoning of the steak was perfectly balanced. Usually, I eat my steak with extra pepper or chimichurri, but this one I was able to eat without any extra seasoning. The surface of the steak look heavily seared but the medium interior was really juicy and succulent. I could taste more char on the edge pieces. After the steak we headed to their second shop next door for some malt shake. I got the cookies n creame flavor, it was milky and not overly sweet like any other milkshakes. And the malt flavor lingers on the tongue after each sip. I was debating to get another one but chocolate flavor but I was too full. Service there overall was very welcoming, and dining area is really big, the interior feels like an old western cabin but very clean and spacious. Great for family gatherings too. They also have a BYOB offer for people who love some good sips along with the smokey steak.

Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!
