Everything was really good, except they gave us a wrong sandwich at first and I would probably add some barbecue sauce to the sandwich. We got the link plate with brisket for the kids and the link was a bit spicy for them but super flavorful. The brisket wasn't the best but we went around closing time. Regardless everything was really good I'd still come back. Super homey restaurant and very clean. The order did take a while but they seemed pretty busy with take out orders. read more

Not great. Not terrible. Just something to eat. Taste like bush baked beans, brisket that is just decent enough, Mac n cheese that seems homemade but doesn't really have a lot of flavor tbh. The "links" and my pulled pork were plated together, the links (smoked sausage) were not impressive, the pulled pork lacked a lot of flavor and you can get better brisket from buc-ees. I'll start first with the taste. Everything we have had from the place has been pretty good. Now the negatives. We have eaten there 4-5 times, all but once was in at restaurant. Every time we have ordered one or more items would be missing from the order. Three of the times the food was cold. The first time they microwaved the food including the coles. Second time we just dealt with it. Last time was a to go order. We were offered a credit for our next visit but at this point we will not return. I hate to see a place with great tasting food be brought down by poor quality control. Got a banana pudding as well. Tasted great. But, be careful not to be poked on the throat by this hard plastic that went with it. read more

GF & I visited while visiting Beaumont area. Best BBQ we've ever had - really simple but really perfect.

I checked this place out last night after doing a quick search for BBQ in the Beaumont area. When I pulled up it looked the part. BBQ joints should either be shit holes or qwerky. This one was definitely closer to shit hole. That's not a bad thing when talking BBQ joints. I ordered the brisket plate with an extra sausage link. The plates come with 3 sides, slice of bread and extra sauce. All of this food came up to 8.93 with tax! Ridiculously cheap. My favorite BBQ item is brisket. I love a good smokey, dry rub brisket. This one may have been but I won't know because it was dripping in bbq sauce. I like my bbq sauce and all but I want to decide if I need it or not. The sausage link was also soaked in sauce. The meat was solid but not sure if I'd say more than that. The sides were boring to bad. They give you 3 sides with an entree but that's just more of blah. The mac and cheese was basically wet noodles. I saw no cheese and tasted even less flavor. The dirty rice was equally tasteless. The beans were pretty solid, nothing extraordinary. I think this place could be really good if they just let the customer ration their sauce proportions and revamped their sides. The staff is really friendly and their prices are very affordable. This is without a doubt the worst barbecue we've had in the Beaumont area, and this area is NOT known for good barbecue. My husband had the chicken fried steak. It looked like a deep fried frozen breaded cutlet. He said it was okay. I ordered a barbecued chicken meal with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and corn. The potatoes were cold and inedible. The green beans appeared to be straight from a can, but they really should have heated them before serving them. Yep, they were cold. The corn also seemed to be straight from a can, although at least it was warm. However, it tasted like it came out of the can sometime last month and had been reheated about 50 times. Gross! The only utensils they brought us were plastic forks, although it would have taken a chain saw to cut into the chicken. After several unsuccessful attempts to grab it with my fork, I picked it up with my hands. Like almost everything else, it was cold. And tough-- hard to bite into and hard to chew. I only took one bite; it tasted kind of funny. We didn't even ask for a doggy bag as I wouldn't feed that stuff to my dogs. We did order the banana pudding, and that was actually pretty good. But it didn't make up for the rest of the meal. read more

Just went there for the first time. Not really that impressed. The Bad: Rice had little flavor, chicken was dry, links were like something you'd buy at the store and were barely warm. Mac & cheese was greasy and not very cheesy. The Good: Coleslaw and potato salad were good. Kinda thought with all the good reviews that we would have found a new great place to eat. Next time we'll stick with Wrights BBQ in Vidor. read more

I have been going to Billy Joe's BBQ since I discovered it in 1975. On Thursday I walked in and ordered a half pound of chopped beef to go. A woman at the counter took my order, then turned it in to the kitchen. While her back was turned to me, she made a rude and unnecessary remark about why I would order to go, when they would only put it in one container. Perhaps she believed that I would not know who made the snide (and loud) remark. She was wrong. A minute later, she delivered the greasiest container of meat I have ever seen. The oil coated the top of the lid and dripped down the side. When I opened the container about 20 minutes later, the contents were also greasy and oil pooled in the container. We ate about a third of the contents before we gagged and threw it away. Considering the insulting treatment at the counter, and the pitiful quality of the chopped beef, I think I am done with Billy Joe's. Their long-time cook recently passed away, and I certainly believe he will be missed. RIP Mr. Cleo. read more

I will most definitely eat here again. The service was friendly and the environment was hospitable. I even got to talk to the Cook and he has been there for a long time and he is a genius when it comes to cooking a good brisket. It's very rare that you find a restaurant that doesn't serve it too dry. And with a sweet tea, 3 sides, and a piece of toast that is off the chain, this place is absolutely great. However, there was a point to where I felt like I was annoying the woman at the counter trying to place my order. I live in the south and these are all classic food entries that I have eaten my whole life. I have never eaten anywhere and had the urge to write a review afterwards. I even had to spend 10 minutes to recover an email password to sign in and write this review. The on reviews on this page that are above 3 star are clearly not real or are written by friends of the family. HOW DO YOU MAKE MAC AND CHEESE TASTE SO BLAND WITH ZERO CHEESE. Good decent BBQ served by good decent people. Owners always make you feel welcome. My wife is Asian and did not know anything about Texas BBQ. The servers made her feel at home and took a few extra steps to make her feel welcome. They even brought her out a small sample of potato salad that she had never had. Loved it. I have eaten there since it opened. I like the pork plate and chip beef sandwich. It is a perfect end to a fishing trip out of Port Neches park. read more
