The waitstaff was great and the atmosphere was really great too. The sliced beef was not bbq it was pot roast with brown gravy. The ribs were very tender and nicely peppered but also had the brown gravy poured over top. So the sliced beef seemed like it was processed but the ribs were real meat. The food tasted like it was a week old. The beans didn't taste good, they were waters down. The barbeque was also horrible, the potatoes salad was the only thing, that was good. We won't go back. Patillo's, you are a gem. It's been ten years since I have visited and the interior is almost exactly the same as it was twenty years ago. Same old vinyl chairs and wood wall panels. It brought back memories of times past. The lady at the counter, who also waitresses the tables, is always so very personable. Inside is very modest, quaint, and has a "mom and pop" local feel to it. Total occupancy capacity would seat around 60. The food: I ordered the link (their speciality and what they are known for), beans, potato salad, and jambalaya rice. I also ordered the green beans and candied yams (didn't take a photo.) -Beef link: Eye-closing enjoyable! Patillo's beef link is handmade and the meat inside is ground up and blended with herbs, seasonings, and spices to create this unique meat masterpiece. It disintegrates in your mouth. Drizzle the sauce on to complete the experience. I have tried links from all over and nothing compares to a "Beaumont beef link." -- Just look it up. -Jambalaya: Good -Potato Salad: Enjoyable -Beans: Average -Green Beans: Average -Candied Yams: Canned, but dressed well *They also offer sides of Cole Slaw and Mac & Cheese. I finally got a chance to stop in after reading about Patillo's as one of the few SE Texas area restaurants serving African american East Texas link sausage. Since I love homemade links, I knew I'd be in for a real treat. The outside is really nothing to look at, and really neither is the inside. The menu is pretty simple and that's a good thing. I had very limited time and just ordered a link to go, but it was very good. I ended up eating all 3 slices of bread that it came with. Not sure how to eat it in a car with no fork while driving, it's pretty difficult, but I ended up just squeezing the filling onto 2 bread pieces, ate that, then squeezed the filling of the other half onto a single bread piece, which made for an overflowing taco, but it was delicious. I'd definitely return for other menu items like their sweet tea, homemade desserts, brisket sandwich, or ribs. read more

Everything I have tried was great except the links. The links were tasty but were to greasy for me. The ribs were great and love the chopped beef sandwich! I had a coworker pick me up 15 links from Patillo's on her way back to Mississippi and I was kind of disappointed. Patillo's has NEVER disappointed me. Most of my links were over cooked and dried out. I would still recommend going there being this is the first time I had an issue with the food . I have traveled the infamous BBQ Trail of Texas from Luling to Lockhart and many other places throughout the Great State of Texas and have enjoyed them all!! So I was told about Patillo's and said let's give it a shot. Sticking to the old saying of "don't judge a book by the cover" I went in to taste the goods. Super friendly young lady greeted me as I walked in and promptly sat me down and served up some good old Texas Sweet tea. Took my order and shuffled away. So far so good right? So here comes the plate piled high with ribs, link sausage, potato salad, pickles, onions, jambalaya rice and beans. Almost forgot about the 4 slices of bread. So I will rate the food in the order above: Ribs - not succulent but you can taste the smoke (ask for any sauce on the side) Link sausage - avoid the casing as it was not eatable put the filling was just ok Potato salad - not bad Pickles - can't screw that up - from jar to plate - simple Onion - just as simple, slice and plate Jambalaya Rice - best thing on the plate Beans - tasted old and a little burnt Bread - didn't see anything wrong with the bread just didn't eat any Price - under $20 and that a winner for me any day!! Not a placee that would say is Texas BBQ - more like Texas home cooking. This place is nasty. The staff was nice, but the food blew ass. As matter of fact I don't even think it was BBQ we had. I had the 2 meat plate with dry ass chicken and soggy brisket. The texture of the brisket damm near made me gag. I think I may only took about 4 bites from the whole time we were there. It was the worst BBQ I ever had. I also had beans and rice on the side and they were ok at best. My buddy had the ribs and sausage plate. He said the texture of sausage was very odd. He said the ribs were bland and were very tough. He also thinks we ate coon. Now that I'm finally off the toilet and have some strength I can write a review. Don't waste your time or money. Just skip this place. This BBQ is so good! I cant even begin to explain this you just have to taste it. Everything here is good! The dirty rice is amazing, the potato salad is amazing, the BBQ sauce is the best I have ever had, for sure better than anything in Lockhart or Austin as far as sauces go I think this may be the best in the world. I love the meat its always tender juicy and smoky. Patillo's also uses a seasoning blend than I just found they now sell that adds a flavor to the BBQ that blends with smokiness and creates something that is ungodly! The links here are amazing! I could rant for hours about how good everything is in this store. The juke box has the same songs in it my grandpa used to play in his 8 track when he drove me to school! If you are even considering Patillo's go there throw some quarters in the juke box play some Conway Twitty and Freddy Fender and exprience as close to heaven as food can bring you. read more

Um, like for real though...this place is sacred in my mama's hometown...Beaumont, TX. Where else can you get the juiciest most succulent hot links on the planet? Look no further. This is not one of those hipster BBQ joints. It's just down home, good meat with a little Southern love attached to it. It's a hole in the wall for sure but those are always the best places. It's quite famous so I'd go early and during the week to get your fix. But yes...don't question it, just do it. Great service and a cool little spot. This is one of the older BBQ spots in Beaumont. The 11th St location is closed now and the Washington location is now reopened after being closed since the last hurricane. The homemade sausage is good, but is still pretty greasy and the chicken is decent. On my first visit back I ordered a rib sandwich. I figured it might be de-boned rib meat in sandwich form, it wasn't. It was ribs on bread, bone and all. I don't get it, I would've just ordered a rib plate. My other complaint is the sauce. It looks like a brown mixture of BBQ grease and water. It will hardly stick to the meat long enough to get a taste of it. This isn't my favorite place for good BBQ, but it is worth a visit. read more

Jack Patillo's Bar-B-Q provides a unique southeast Texas barbecue experience. Upon entering the restaurant I noticed the enticing smell of barbecue that is incredibly unique to Patillo's. My fiancé and I were greeted by a friendly staff member upon finding our own table. The menu is straightforward and simple to understand. I think that the prices are fair, but keep in mind that any meat-related items offered by a restaurant will drive the price up on your receipt fairly quick. I ordered the link plate with potato salad, rice jambalaya, and beans. I also ordered a Coca-Cola with my order. My fiancé ordered the shredded beef plate with the same sides, except he ordered the coleslaw in place of the potato salad. On the menu the restaurant references the potato salad as "salad," so keep that in mind when you are ordering. We were also given four slices of white bread on the side. The food was delivered pretty fast. My fiancé and I agree that the food was absolutely phenomenal. Overall, I highly recommend trying Patillo's. I will definitely be back again. read more

On our way back to Houston from Louisiana we decided to stop for lunch in Beaumont, wanted to try Beaumont-style BBQ as I'd always heard it's different from other Texas styles. Remembered a Houston Chronicle BBQ article from a few years ago recommending several old-time Beaumont BBQ joints. The one we really wanted to try was Gerard's but it was closed for the holidays. Went down the road to the next one on the list, Patillo's, about 1/2 mile away. That was a big mistake. Should have read the Yelp reviews first. Ordered a sliced beef platter with jambalaya rice, beans, and potato salad. She ordered the beef sandwich. Neither of us ate much of the meat, it was awful. Don't know how it can be called BBQ. It was thin-sliced, tough meat swimming in a greasy brown gravy. Tasted and looked almost exactly like Dinty Moore canned beef stew. It should have been called "sliced pot roast in gravy" on the menu. It's not BBQ. Beans were oddly smokey but good, jambalaya rice was OK, potato salad was too sweet. Folks running the place were nice. Wanted to take home some Beaumont-style links since I've always heard that's different also from other styles, but after the beef failure decided not to. Wanted to like this place, it's got a lot going for it... old-time BBQ joint setting, a long family BBQ history, really nice folks, decent sides... but BBQ is the main reason for going there and it is not good. read more

First of all I would like to comment to the other yelpers who had an issue with the "brisket", if you do not know what the cut of meat that you are eating is, then how can I value your opinion? For the record Patillo's serves beef clod (shoulder). Now that I'm off my soap box on to my opinion of the food. To start with their links are beyond compare for their flavor (heavy on the garlic), yes they are greasy, but that is easy to deal with by using a good slice of white bread. My favorite thing to order is the sliced beef on bread, their sauce is a bit thin but has a very unique flavor. I really like it, but I could see where others that desire a more traditional sauce would leave disappointed. Their ribs are well cook cooked and have the proper amount of tooth to them, where they must be eaten from the bone but are still very tender. If you're in Beaumont and want to try a different spin on BBQ I really suggest you give them a shot. read more

The most unique barbecue in the area... Possibly anywhere. A true original and Southeast Texas staple. Evidenced by the diversity of the clientele and the fact that it is consistently busy, despite being located in what some might call a "bad neighborhood". Now, if you only like viscous, sweet ketchupy tomato-based barbecue sauces, you might not like Patillo's one-of-a-kind sauce. Patillo's delicious mildly spicy sauce is designed to accent the smoky goodness of the meat, rather than drown it. They offer the usual barbecue meat selections, beef(but not brisket), pork, chicken, and links. All wonderful. Note to the link lover: Don't expect a dry sausage when you order links. Expect a well seasoned grind of meats lightly stuffed into a crispy smoked natural casing, dripping with the magical spicy orange grease that signifies flavor. I like to split it open and scoop the meat onto a slice of fresh complimentary white bread. Some like to "drain" the links before eating them. For lunch the chopped beef sandwich is my personal favorite but the half a chicken plate is high on my list too. All plates come with three trimmings which include pinto beans, dirty rice, pickles and onions a stack of white bread slices and the most distinct potato salad you've ever had. Prices are super reasonable. The staff of sweet kind hearted ladies have been working here for many years, and will leave you with a smile on your face. Literally half of what many other local joints charge. But I'd pay double if that's what would keep me rolling in Patillo's BBQ. They have somewhat odd hours, so I recommend calling ahead if you're not familiar with their operation. They are the busiest during lunch hours Monday through Friday. Highly recommended!
