My wife and I were traveling through Eastern Kentucky on vacation and made Prestonsburg our starting point for our side-trips. We learned of Billy Ray's and had to try it our first night. The decor was wonderful with decorative ceiling panels and more. The menu was great -- something for everyone. My wife had the breaded cod dinner and said it was delicious and the cole slaw was some of the best she's had. I had the 21-piece shrimp dinner, but I'm sure there were closer to 30 pieces on the plate. Each day has a special and they all sound wonderful. read more

Billy Ray's Restaurant is one of the best places to visit in eastern Kentucky. The menu has a great variety of good ol' American cuisine. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent. It's a great place for families to dine and has a nice location downtown close to locally owned shops and the river park. They have great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Between the three of us, we had the tilapia, green beans, mustard greens, pot roast, cheeseburger, fries, rolls, and cornbread. I can't let this injustice fall on the people of yelp. Listen, this place absolutely sucks. I got a double cheeseburger and it tasted like the $4 it cost. Probably at best grade D meat. It was smeared with mayo and it was a mess. The place was crowded and slow. Staff was nice, but every time I go here I am left hungry, disgusted, and cheated. Never again will I go to Billy Rs. Imagine stepping back in time to that little ole country diner that you remembered? Well, you don't have to look far to find it!! The charm of Billy Ray's will amaze you in this little town. The staff and food is good too. Although we only had breakfast my party could tell that this is home cooking at its best. The Super Burger was a sight to see. So was our desert! It was a battered deep fried apple with ice cream. The presentation made your mouth water! The owner was so accommodating he even made us his special Mormon fry sauce to dip our French fries in. The fries were perfectly crispy. I had the Rueben which was some of the leanest well cut corned beef I have ever had. My husband and I shared a salad and our server split it beautifully. In town for the first time. Yelped Billy Ray's. Exactly what we were looking for. Great home cooking. Had the country fried steak. Others in my party had spaghetti and open-faced roast beef. We went out to eat and our daughter has developed to tomatoes, wheat, soy, peanut and she's lactose intolerant. We are still learning how to deal with this. While in Prestonsburg, for business I had dinner at Billy Rays. What a nice quaint restaurant. I was greeted and welcomed with a smile by my waitress. I enjoyed a prime rib dinner that was absolutely prepared to perfection. My dinner included a salad and bake potato and dinner roll with a glass of sweet tea to wash it down. I patronized this restaurant for many months , but last week I had a poor waitress.....anyone can have a bad day laid the bill down when she brought the order to never return to see if everything was alright... Today July 17, 2016 the waitress took the order waited 40 minutes no food no explanation why... Used another app to discover Billy Ray's Playhouse Restaurant. Located in the heart of business section of Pburg this was a great discovery for me. Was informed that this restaurant was formerly a pool room and then an arcade thus the name Playhouse. Moderately upscale diner with a huge hometown ambiance. Restaurant was 2\3 full of patrons at 3:00 pm on this Friday afternoon. I ordered a Pool Room cheeseburger, soup beans with corn bread and onions, fries and slaw. Slaw was amongst the best I have ever ate. Fries was standard crinkle cut but marvelously fried to perfection. Pinto's had a unique flavor that I really liked. The only fault I have with this meal was that the beans were just warm. Cornbread was muffin shaped and also had a unique flavor that was appealing. The waitresses wore shirts that featured "Pool Room Burger" on the back. The burger was to die for. It was like a melt in your mouth ground beef truffle. Fantastic! The flavor put me in mind of an Iowa "Maid Right" only the beef was in a solid patty. Restaurant serves dinner style comfort dinners as well. I viewed several dinners being served open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes meals. Meal cost $9.78 including tax. Service was solid. I will return when traveling through Prestonsburg in the future. This is truly a hometown treasure. read more
