Lamb on a bed of salad

Absolutely delicious, lamb was perfect! They were able to accommodate our dietary restrictions and placed the lamb on a bed of salad instead of rice.

Lamb Gyro!

Absolutely a gem! Ordered three dishes and each was excellent. Lamb Gyro, Buffalo Chicken Wrap and Chicken Tikka sandwich. Made with care and love each dish was made from scratch. Please don't hesitate to visit. Bina's is a true gem in Saugerties.

It's not very tasty nor worth the money. It was basically just pieces of meat floating in oil

Tucked away at the corner of Deming St and Mill Hill Rd in Woodstock, NY, Nirvana is exactly what the name promises- it's a calm, sensory bliss, has warm lighting and a slight Indian spice in the air. Then there's the food. The tandoori shrimp came out sizzling hot with perfect charred edges, the garlic naan was tasty but it was the truffle naan that brought the fire. The real showstopper was my cardamom+saffron+ passion fruit cocktail full of tropical attitude. Service was great. I mean- they move like they're reading your mind: our plates were cleared, drinks refreshed, all before we even asked. Listen, Woodstock may be known for its music, but Nirvana's got its own rhythm.

We made a reservation ahead of time and was promptly seated. The drinks and food were delicious but it did take over an hour for our orders to come through even though tables that came after us were getting their meals. Probably just a once off and the rest of dinner made up for that mishap. The paneer curry was delicious and the chicken tikka masala was so tender. Overall a great stop for a date night or night out with friends!

They told me other people took priority because they made a reservation earlier, not because the reservation time was different. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! We had kids with us, they were tired and HUNGRY getting past their bedtime and we had to stand! They should have just told us no, they cannot take a reservation. They knew we wouldn't have anywhere else to go and TOOK ADVANTAGE. Gotta say though, food was excellent.. drinks as well, which is why I gave 5 stars for food. But the service was so abysmal, it ruined the experience completely. I would have left and gone home, but I was on vacation and staying at a hotel. The man that was managing the front of the restaurant did offer 20% off and gave my kids free mango lassies although he definitely was more annoyed at us than appoligetic. He even accused us of arriving later than when we arrived. (The waitstaff did apologize even though it was not their fault). This was the first time in my life, I have ever left less than a 15% tip in the US. I was originally going to leave nothing, but I felt bad for the waiters that did nothing wrong. The restaurant is just very mismanaged.

Have you ever had Indian food so bland that an english muffin might be considered spicy? Welcome to the Red Hook Curry house. It has all the potential, but delivered with "Meh." The best part of the meal was the garlic nan. I'm a vindaloo kind of guy. I expect it to be spicy. I was woefully underwhelmed. I took home the leftovers and fixed it. Granted, the lamb was nice and tender, and the rice was well cooked. But the overall feeling was, "whatever". My wife had a vegetarian dish with chickpeas, again, lacking in any spice. She brought it home and added some flavors. This was my third visit to the Red Hook Curry House, and probably my last. The place felt closed already. I imagine they do a decent take out business, because I certainly don't want to sit in there again. And what was with the bright green sauce for the papadam?! That food color went out in the 50's! However, we were met with an experience that really soured us on the restaurant. We arrived at 5:00 and were seated one table away from the window. Then another couple came in, likely had a reservation for the window seat, and were seated beside us. A little close, to be sure, since every other table was open, but we didn't mind. The guy at the window, though, obviously had a big problem with it, because (after first complaining to the host about the volume of the music -- "too loud") he immediately returned to the host stand to complain that we were seated too close, and that they wanted more space. Okay, I get it. But if you want more space, then YOU move. You don't ask the host to move other guests. We were comfortably seated and ready to order when the host approached us with a made-up story that we were mistakenly seated in a reserved table, and could we please move one table over. In hindsight we should have left right then and there. I understand that the host was attempting to defuse an absurd request from an entitled individual, but it truly put a damper on our dining experience. Toward the end of the evening, I suggested to the host that one guest's entitlement shouldn't cost another guest their seat. She was apologetic and obviously just wanted to keep window-man happy. She's young, and I don't fault her -- a more seasoned host might have found a way to smooth things over -- a genuine apology, a complimentary appetizer -- rather than leaving us to feel like an inconvenience. Honestly, I'm more irritated by the ridiculous customers who had us moved. I had a lot I wanted to say to them, but my wife diplomatically insisted that I refrain. We considered leaving a Yelp review, but that doesn't help anybody, and as I said, our past experiences at Cinnamon had all been very positive. In the end, it was just an uncomfortable situation that made me, at least, feel like a second-class customer in a restaurant I'd genuinely looked forward to returning to.

Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!
