This art deco theater is an enjoyable experience for the most part. I've attended a few events here. There really isn't a bad seat in the house due to the small size, tiers, and acoustics. The seats are very small and not much knee space at all so if you are a large and/or tall person, be prepared for that. They do have a family/non-gender restroom on the 3rd floor past the bar for those whom require it. They do require proof of covid vaccination or you test (you purchase and bring in unopened) right there. Although, I have issue with this part. We received an email just a day or two prior to the Fab Four concert (that was rescheduled twice due to covid complications) that proof or a covid test would be necessary upon entrance. This would have been nice to know well in advance during the window of deciding to get a refund or not. So we spent the extra money to buy the test (which was our budget for refreshments and could have went to The Bing instead of the pharmacy). Let me tell you...I've never felt so judged and on display in my life. The staff was not even informed being tested was an option in lieu of showing vaccination proof. So there was a very obvious hold up in the line and loud discussion alerting everyone to that point. Then we were told to stand off to the side until they could confirm what they were supposed to do. Finally after about 20 minutes they had us stand over at a table that was set up in the lobby and do our test. The person "monitoring" wasn't present the entire time we awaited the results and then basically shouted over the crowd to just dispose of them in the trash and enter, not even verifying. What a waste of money and unnecessarily being given judgement and rude looks from other patrons. We were very annoyed by the lack of communication and follow through of their requirements. We also witnessed several of the staff and workers not wearing their masks at all times or properly, and no enforcement of their rules as to others wearing masks at all times unless eating/drinking. If this was such a big deal, then perhaps they should have treated it as such. I'm sorry this review was more of a rant than about our theater experience itself but this pretty much set the stage and mood for the rest of our evening that we had waited so long for.

This is one of the most gorgeous theaters I've been to. The architecture is beautiful, the acoustics are great and the setting is intimate. I experienced John Prine seven rows back, but it seemed that I was so much closer. The only downfall I can say is if you're short, like I am (5'-5") and you get a giant sitting in front of you, you may have a harder time seeing, but it's not that bad compared to most theaters from this era. Update: I came here in April 2011 for April Smith and the Great Picture Show. Everything was just as expected. Lovely theater and not a bad seat in the house. This time we decided to try out the lower balcony for the performance and if you can get near the front rows, it seems like you're right there! Up here, there is still a little problem with us vertically challenged, but overall it's still a great experience. As for the other review, I don't know if they were just having issues the night she was there, but all toilets seem to in working order as a flood of females tested them out during intermission.

Very cool older theatre! Fabulous they are making updates to match the existing decor! Love the third level where they offer parties and the second level bar is comfy with a cool downtown view!

great theater, the ceiling crawl space is a bit tight though. They need to fix that and then it would be better for hiding in.

Gorgeous space! Great seats! I can't say much about the regular programming since I was only there for a theatre festival.

Since the departure of professional theatre in Spokane, there is little doubt that "The Civic"…read morerules the roost. Most community theatre productions I have seen are geared towards family and friends of the performers with a mix of talented thespians and enthusiastic, if weaker, performers doing what they love. The Civic does not fall into this mold. Without a doubt, this is community theatre of the highest quality. Boasting two stages: a large traditional "main stage" and a "black box" theatre downstairs, Spokane Civic Theatre produces a mix of traditional productions such as "Hello Dolly" or "White Christmas" to offbeat shows such as "Rocky Horror Show" or "Putnam County." Bottom line: Don't miss the chance to see top notch theatre in Downtown Spokane!

The theatre itself is beautiful and the modest size creates a very intimate atmosphere with each production. Ticket prices are very reasonable. You seriously can't beat the view from the audience the ticket cost and the superb skills of the actors. I just saw the current production of Les Miserables and let me just say....it is PHENOMENAL. I've seen the show on Broadway and in San Fransisco and I think this production rivals those. Kudos to the board for bringing on a great director and music director for this musical and to the men and women of Spokane (and surrounding areas) for sharing their gifted voices with us. You have another adoring fan.

Wonderful little theater nestled snugly in the cockles of downtown Spokane…read more Productions are carefully selected and feature an abundance of local talent from playwrights to production crew, actors to lighting techs, set design to customer service. Community engagement and social mission are baked into the crust. Stage Left puts their (your) money where their (your?) mouth is in terms of diverting portions of ticket sales to local causes, and they have a land-lease arrangement with one of the local tribes. They are a progressive theatre, no doubt, and wear their politics proudly on their sleeve. Still, with the production I saw I was delighted to see politics riding shotgun to art and stagecraft; highly politicized subject matter was treated with more nuance and thoughtfulness than I was expecting frankly. It's a small theater so all the seats are good seats. Sound, lighting, and set design were very nice! The acting was almost universally awesome and actors seemed both very well-rehearsed and highly skilled in delivery. Prices are reasonable at $25 for weekend shows; it's a great night out and a solid value. Cheaper tickets are available during the week as well. You can buy beer and wine in the lobby to bring into the theater, alongside some other snacky sundries. The theater is downtown in one of the more distressed areas, so feel free to walk in pairs and not leave a bunch of tempting stuff visible in your vehicle.

The last two times we didn't have to wait in line too long, but in the past we have been in a line that went all the way down the block that doesn't move swiftly. And when weather isn't ideal, that can be a bit daunting. We usually try to do the ticket packaged with food and beverage. This time we did the Paper Plane ticket which includes an appetizer, dessert, and non-alcoholic drink. I decided to order one adult beverage and although I didn't get my NA beverage, they still charged us the full amount of the drink. It would have been nice if we could have just paid the difference. Their table running could be more efficient. One of our orders went to the table next to us. We overheard the people saying what's this, oh what a nice surprise (because they didn't order it!) so we had to re-order. I'm sure the room fills up with big acts, but it's always been only full in the front part of the room when we go. I would love it if they would space out the tables and chairs because we're literally crammed in like sardines and with four people sharing a cocktail table (each ordering multiple items), we all had to hold our plates in our laps. There seems to be space in the house, so why not give us some elbow room to spread out for shows that aren't sold out? Overall, it's a great time and there's always friendly staff.
