I've been to a few Binny's locations, one in Chicago, one in Buffalo Grove, and this one and a few others. I'm not sure how Binny's manages to have such cheap prices but have the best staff you can get in a liquor store. Staff are very nice and conversational, if you come across someone stocking the shelf and just want to get some advice on beverages they are happy to give recommendations. It's quite nice to go here when they are giving out free samples, it's a fun hour spent drinking a variety of new things and it's free. I've gone on sample day and walked out without buying anything and nobody gave me any dirty looks or anything. I like how they are happy to serve you some free drink and don't pressure you to buy, sometimes I want to be able to sleep on a decision to buy a whole bottle of something that I might seldom use in my average drinking. The store is very clean and stocked to the gills with every beverage you can imagine. Binny's truly lives up to its slogan. Horrible customer service. Bought $1000 worth of booze for a wedding and gave them the date. Was told I could return un opened bottles after. Went to return and they would not take back the extras. They said it was past the 30 days date. They never told me 30 days even though I told them the date when I bought it. Worst customer service. Never shop there again. God forbid you forget your ID the manager will tell you not to comeback for laughing. I went to the cashier and was asked for my ID when I was not paying, I'm 24, the cashier asked for my ID which I told him I didn't have and told him I would leave if needed, he then called over his manager and made the situation way bigger than it needed to be. The manger asked me and my friend to leave and we left without and issue, but we laughed which was a huge mistake because the little guy in the front told us "if you're going to laugh don't come back" to which I responded "it's not that serious" and he made a gesture for us to leave. This place is a great place to get your beverages at a consistently great price. Really fantastic selection. I found bourbons and whiskeys that are extremely hard to find, including Hillrock. I love their selection of 1/2 bottle (375 ml) wines. Decent variety of better quality reds. Service is great. All of the employees are awesome. Been shopping at Binny's for decades, most are usually pretty decent and selection is good and the people are mostly helpful.... I quickly dropped in this location to find a few things and this amazing $7 bottle of Spanish wine I get at other locations. I humbly asked the guy who refused to acknowledge my shopping if he knew what I was looking for and without looking at me laughed and said "I can't help you with that information all the cheap bottles are on the bottom row" and kept on doing his thing. Sorry I was looking for a great bottle of cheap wine other nicer locations carry, you guys need to not hire old stereo salesmen to help your customers. Bitch, Please. How could I not love it here? Large, well lit, easy to locate items, and staff with a watchful eye- in a good way. Every customer gets a greeting and the offer to help them find what they're looking for. Their beer selections was also one of the better ones I'd seen at Binny's. Okay, there wasn't a ton (of the good stuff) in the cold section but I understand that a lot of folks are into all that Miller, Bud, Coors, Blue Moon, and other sh*tty sh*t beer... but I don't understand why Oh- and they have bottles of the 3 Floyd's + Brewdog collaboration, 'Bitch, Please'. So yeah. Even though this Binny's is about 728964282478 miles from my house, I wouldn't be surprised to see myself back here scoping the sweet sip-age selection. read more

Attitudes and customer service at this Binnys have been swirling the drain for years. It survives on soccer moms, wine snobs and commodity cooler purchases. Ask the manager a question and his hemorrhoids flare up- it's infectious, and trickles down to everybody in the store except the John Malkovich beer guy. TOM is one of the best employees I've encountered. I've been looking for a hard to find beer in various forms. Trooper beer, British, Iron Maiden related. TOM helped me find the cans version, called me the day it arrived, and then updated me on a bottle box I was curious about. He is the only employee in the area that actually returned my call and followed up on my questions. I will be visiting this particular Binny's going forward. Tom rocks! read more

Updated review. This location still has a pretty decent beer section and even though all the staff that I once knew and talked beer with in this department have been long gone, the current beer staff are nice and helpful. I usually find what I'm looking for in terms of beer. I'll keep a couple stars for the beer department... Marking off a few stars because this is probably the worst Binnys for spirits, particularly whiskey. Sure they have everything you can find every where else and some decent store picks from time to time, but certain bottles I used to see on the shelves years ago are never available. I mean, they keep them locked in the side room by the registers and only sell them to bar owners and deep pockets who spend absurd amounts of money every year. For example, common allocated weekly BT drops like ER, EHT, Blantons, Weller anything, are all in this room. Never see shelves, not behind the service counter to inquire about, just locked away. I know when they drop but every time I come in, nothing. I remember inquiring about a seasonal favorite of mine the day it dropped, MWND. Was told by an employee that he didn't recognize me. Well, I've been shopping here for more than 10 years, you seem new to me too but why does that matter in the first place? I know you have it in your little room. If it was on the shelf, I wouldn't have to ask. Not like I'm asking for Pappy or something to that degree, jeez. Ended up going down the street to a grocery store and had no problem picking up the bottle I was looking for. It has just become a bit ridiculous. I understand the employees don't want to be hounded all the time for particulars, so put them out somewhere. Put a limit one per bottle. Check their Binnys card to show they shop at this location. Let the average drinker who shops at your store have the opportunity. What prompted me to even update this review is today's Weller 12 release. I get it, it's sought after, released once, maybe twice a year. Someone posted a photo from a Binnys Chicago location of stacks of cases available on the floor. There were tons of it going around. LZ Binnys never does this. Even if LZ still has some in their room, I'll never have a shot. Because of this practice, I don't nearly come to this store as much as I used to. I've had better experiences at another multi-location Chicagoland bottle shop and though you spend a few more bucks, some of the mom and pop spots. Great place to get any alcohol or cigars. But I usually venture out here when the Captain Morgan is on sale (sometimes as low as $19.99 for the handle). Other reasons for stopping at Binny's is when we are invited to a party & we want to get a specific wine. Have used this binnys for years prob spend average 100+ per week on wine and bourbon. And every time I look for bourbons allocated or not they hide them in the back. I get keeping like a gts or other great bourbon in back but simple eagle rare, wellers special reserve, eh Taylor etc. I mean come on. Go to wheeling store where they will put good bourbons out on the shelves. Or better yet go to consume lake Zurich for great bottles and prices. We stopped in at 8:55 pm tonight to get a few cordials we needed, mainly for cooking. The service/check-out area is in the front, right by the door. There were around 5 employees hang out there but none greeted us. I realize that they close at 9 and we came in at 8:55, but we had plenty of time to get what we needed. At the register we tried a bit of small talk and were greeted by the sound of crickets. Not even a thank or come again. Based on my experience tonight, I'd say the poor customer service earns them a solid 2 stars. read more

I love this location, it is by far one of the friendliest customer service store they have. Even though it's a bit further away from home, I like coming here for two reasons. Staff is always nice and they greet you and offer assistance throughout your shopping experience. And two, they have the lowest sales tax around. I mean would you rather pay Cook County taxes or save the extra buck or two and maybe get a little more for your money. It's a no brainer, I must say. My mom and I headed in on our way to a concert, knowing we didn't want to spend $10 per beer (Mom doesn't drink beer anyway) to pick up some booze and a flask. There were multiple employees standing around the service and register area, but we weren't greeted or acknowledged until I went to the service desk and specifically asked about the non-plastic flasks. We were pointed in the direction of said flasks. We had just gotten there and began to discuss what was in the case when an employee who apparently works in that section greeted us and asked if he could assist us with anything. We told him we would need a moment, so he told us to "Let him know when we were ready" and walked away to help another customer. Shortly thereafter we decided what we wanted to purchase, but he was still busy, so we waited patiently. At one point he was 10' away and made eye contact with him to let him know we were ready. He saw us standing there, so when he was done with his customer we figured he'd come back over. Nope. He began to socialize with what appeared to be a friend of his who had come into the store. So we waited. And waited. I mean, two women just standing there, not looking at anything else, facing the employee who holds the key to the goods and trying to catch his eye again.. if that doesn't scream Non-verbal Retail Cue, I don't know what does. Not wanting to "patiently wait" anymore, I went back over to the service desk to ask for assistance with the flasks. And instead getting a key and walking the 15' over to help us, the employees who were just standing around got on the intercom and called the talking guy over to the flasks. Talking Flask Keyholder Guy came back with no apology for the wait - just asked what we wanted, put the lid on the box, and handed it to us. Overall it seemed the employees had nothing better to do than socialize amongst themselves versus assist customers. read more

Beware! Not all Binny's are created equal. I bought a $27 Belgian beer gift box. I gave it to my boyfriend only to discover the beer inside had a "best by" date of 2016!! Seriously!? 4 years past the date?? We returned it to the same Lake Zurich Binny's, and the manager could have cared less. He made some lame excuse about how the distributor sent "old beer". I've been customer of this store for years. I've purchased wine, liquor and cigars there. I've been pretty satisfied in past till this past Sunday . I went to purchase cigars in there walk in humidor, and as I was browsing for a selection the man that unlocked humidor felt he had to stand at door with door open watching me as I was browsing. I felt as though he was either put out because I was browsing or he didn't trust me . Regardless, I did purchase a few cigars but will never be back to this store for anything again. read more

Was just in store talking to an assistant manager, when an employee sadly hurt himself when a bottle dropped and exploded into his face. The assistant manager sprung into action and ran over to aid the employee. It was nice to see a manager immediately drop our conversation to run to the employees aid. Great Job sir! As a "regular Jane" when it comes to wine selecting, I know I can always trust Binny's of Lake Zurich to steer me in the right direction. As a novice wine drinker, I find it can be intimidating selecting special wines for special occasions, or for gifting to oenophiles and Italians named Gambino. Expert wine selector John Anderluh was extremely courteous, informative, and brought me to the perfect selections...price point perfect and attractive label art charming as well. Definitely my "sure thing" go to spot for Over 21 boozy fun. The selection of beer, booze, gift bags, sparkling bubbles and such make shopping a pleasure. Friendly staff too. read more

I have been a long time fan of Binnys and I find myself appreciating them more by the day, or shopping experience. Of course the latter and the former are the same;) While I'm writing this review specifically for the Lincoln Park location, formally known as Sam's, I'm posting it to locations I've visited. Every location I've been to has been great. As this is the only review for the Lake Zurich Binnys let me assure you this Binnys is a veritable play land of Spirits, Wines, and Cigars!! Although I purchase the bulk of my wine through wine.com I do order from Binnys on occasion. Sometimes the price is better, sometimes they just have something I'm looking for, and sometimes I don't want wine in 100 degree weather during transit. I almost never walk out without wine if I'm actually there because wine bottles are just sexy! Ordering online from them is a snap and they are very quick about giving you the status of your order. When it's ready you just show up and sign the credit card receipt (or however you set up payment). Short of a Scotch boutique you simply won't find a bigger selection of Scotchs in a single store. I'll say the same for Vodkas, Gins, Bourbons, craft Beers, etc. Even a selection of Grappas! In addition the staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Their humidor has always been top notch. If you just out for a cigar you may not consider Binnys but they have always maintained their humidor's to perfection. You may find a wider selection at a specialty shop but you won't find better prices, especially downtown. Still, they carry everything from cheap and easy smoking to top shelf brands and lines. I really enjoy their humidor. All in all Binnys is about as good as it gets when it comes to a liquor store. I'd give them 4.5 stars (I never give 5...it needs to be more elusive in my opinion) and maybe even 4.75 but alas Yelp won't let me. Prost, Cheers, Salud, Bon Appetit, and all those great wishes! Horrible! Went with my aunt to get calvados, a type of Armagnac or apple brandy for use with making a tourchon of foie gras. It's a very common, standard alcohol, available anywhere.. Except Binnys, where the staff had never heard of it, and instead suggested an atrocious, cheap, shitty, overwhelmingly oaky, one dimensional, only good for reconstituting dry mushrooms "Lairds apple jack" YUCK, I and my family will never return. read more

I've giving this location one star because of their customer service. I was just in a slow line at the cashier, while I was waiting they opened up two new lanes and took people from THE END of the long lines. So people who just got in line went right to the newly opened register and I had to wait another five minutes. Also, I have inquired about kegs of beer here previously and was promised call backs that were never received. Good product, bad service. read more

Last weekend I stopped by this Binny's on my way to visit my Dad and inquired about when(if) this location would be receiving a shipment of Goose Island Bourbon County 22 oz. bottles, usually the flavors. I was told that they would be sold next Saturday, today, at opening and it was "first come, first serve". Great, I wanted to grab a few for myself and a couple more as gifts if possible. Today, I woke up and drove out from Chicago to be there when they opened the doors. Understandably I was not the first in line, probably about 12-15 back. Upon opening everyone was directed inside to the service counter and told that we could have one bottle each of both Night Stalker and Bourbon County Coffee Stout. Again, understandable as they wanted to make sure that everyone who was waiting in line outside had a chance to get at least one of each and no one was left out. Cool. I paid for my two bottles. Put them in my trunk and walked back in. There is no line at this point now. Everyone who was waiting outside pre-opening was able to get at least one bottle of each. I walked back up to the counter and picked up another one both varieties. No staff said anything. Paid again, bottles in trunk, head back in. At this point there are no customers around the service counter at all, just me. I ask if I can get more seeing as everyone who was waiting was able to get a bottle of each and there was no one else waiting at the time. Their answer: no. I was told that I was "done" because I had already "double-dipped". Pardon? I can completely understand a "no" if people are still waiting in line or if everyone who was originally waiting didn't even get a chance to purchase both types. But now? I am standing in front of you, alone, ready to buy another six bottles of each, but instead you are holding them for people who might be coming later. I was there then ready to spend another $200 on top of the $64 that I had already spent. Let me reiterate one more time, if there was still a line or if people who were waiting originally were not able to even get their fair share this would be a non-issue. But that wasn't the case. Everyone who waited got at least one of each, and there were still two cases of both types behind the service desk. I'm sorry about the long review. It was just really frustrating to drive all the way out from Chicago, ready to spend a good amount of money once everyone got their fare share for waiting. Will I shop at Binny's again? Yes, I mean they really kind of have the alcohol superstore business cornered in the Chicagoland area and you can't hold and entire company accountable for one stores poor decision making. Will I shop at this particular Binny's again? Not a chance. They didn't want my money then, why would I give it to them in the future. Besides, they have other locations. read more

I set up a bar for my son's Bar Mitzvah and they helped me get the order all together and the delivery was on time and exactly what I ordered. I spoke to a couple of different managers and had made several changes and they were very, very helpful and attentive. They helped me pick out really good wines at very fair prices. When I brought back my unopened bottles they took my return with a smile understanding fully the service they offer. I say 4 stars for one reason and it is a small one. I didn't order enough cups in relation to the number of drinks I was making and they have a program that tells them exactly how many drinks I was making. I think that is something they should have brought to my attention with their years of experience. Friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I would use them again in a heartbeat for my next big event. read more

I only go here to buy imported beer from Europe that you can only buy at few selected stores in the Chicago land area. But my domestic beer I buy at grocery stores since you get better sales elsewhere on that. read more
