Here to try and bring up the reviews a bit at least from a regular badminton player perspective. Is badminton pickleball? No. Is badminton as popular as pickleball? Debatably, considering the demographics of the area while accounting for the accessibility of each sport. Nevertheless, this is one of the only locations for a badminton gym close to the Cupertino and West San Jose area. Entry prices are average at $20 per drop-in for the time; not the greatest but still less expensive than climbing. The facilities are not as nice or as pretty as Bintang Fremont (newly opened), but this is also one of the older locations now. The most lacking thing is that this location has no water fountain. They've done some renovations and added new courts, and at the end of the day I'm here to play a few hours of sweaty games with local friends. Perhaps I'm used to it, but badminton has unfortunately never been a cheap sport to get into. Good feather birds cost money, racket strings can break within a week after stringing, and a good quality racket can be upwards of 200 dollars, not to mention that they are thinner and more fragile than tennis rackets. Nevertheless, it is the sport I grew up with, and this is a gym I've frequented over the past decade. I would say if you're looking for a gym with nice facilities, a water fountain, and ample court space, look toward some of the badminton gyms in Fremont or up the peninsula. read more

Well, I had a challenging time finding it. I went to the pickleball spot. When I found it, here are the impressions. 1- messy and all along the walls were weird broken down benches and clutter. Like- the place looked super run down. 2- the pickleball vs tennis/badminton were night and day. It's like they spent a fortune to make the pickleball spot really well stocked, clean, concessions to purchase and a little shop, pickleball was the favorite child and Badminton the black sheep step child that was clearly forgotten. 3- rates were the same. So you pay pickleball rates for a trash can area. Really? I won't go back. Too pricey for a bad effort at maintaining the space: too bad. Indoor would be amazing during extreme weather but hard pass. read more

Came here for the kids' summer camp and my kids absolutely loved it! They had so much fun learning badminton and playing the games. The coaches were really nice and helpful too. I loved hearing how my kids were sweating the whole time- makes me feel like I got my money's worth! Will definitely be coming back for more camp in the future! A side note- Was reading some of the other reviews complaining about not having a water fountain in the gym. Not sure why people don't just bring their own water bottles. Public water fountains are disgusting and gross. Also why are people complaining about no AC? It's a badminton gym. If you have AC, it will affect the way the birdie flies. If you need air, go outside for fresh air. Just my opinion.... read more

The place is expensive as it is so that's something to bear in mind. They have no chairs even for kids to sit in if they are waiting to be picked up- they need to sit in the floor at the entrance. We put our kid here for a camp and on the weekend before the camp started they left us a cryptic message saying that the afternoon part of the camp (mad science) was cancelled for the entire week because they didn't have enough sign up. They asked us to call them but never picked up the phone they Saturday or Sunday ! We were left hunting for other places to take our child last min. This is unprofessional and we do not have family or other ways to deal with this and have been picking up and dropping him off at another camp that we had to find on Monday AM. This review is long overdue. I go here because of the proximity to my home. I have been playing at this location for over a year. The place is poorly run. There are outside coaches who run coaching programs here to train the kids. I have seen kids running around the courts as a part of the drill where people are actively playing. It's a safety hazard for the kids as it's very easy for anyone playing in the outside courts to accidently bump into them. Several complaints filed at the front desk and the coaching staff have yielded in no result. All they care about is taking fees with absolutely no regard for the safety of the kids. As a parent, I would not be sending my kid to this location. If you are a general member, please be prepared to be treated as a second class citizen even though you are paying $20 for the drop in fee. During peak times there are very limited open courts for general public use. It just seems this place is run by the coaches who book the best courts for their program and leave the not so great courts open for the general public. On top of that they make their students do the running drills (at times kids are doing anywhere from 15-20 laps) while there are active games being played. This is not only a safety hazard for the kids and the patrons but also a nuisance if you are trying to play a competitive game. Well here is a suggestion, why not open the indoor and center courts for the public and let the coaching staff use the outside courts? At least that will help mitigate some of the issues. This was suggested to the front desk and coaches who obviously don't want to accept this as a solution. This facility doesn't have water fountain, no air conditioning, and absolutely zero customer service. Even an one star rating is still too high for them. Dropped my $400 racket in the front deck about a week ago and when I picked it up there is a chip on the racket,since it is brand new and never used before so I will say that they have damaged my racket. So they said they gonna investigate by putting my racket on the string machine again telling me that it wasn't damaged during stringing but in the pictures we can see that the strings there is also damaged but they still tell me that it wasn't them that damaged my racket. So when I want to pick up my racket, the manager named Jon tell me to pick it up without telling me when so I came at 2:05pm on September 14, there is just a guy who doesn't give me any chance to explain and being very rude slam the door and just left. Then I text the manager because he was too busy to answer my phone calls and he told me to come back again at their opening hours. read more

I really wish they get air conditioning, it felt like a sauna in there....from everyones body heat and sweat...and depending on what court youre at the floor can be uneven. This place is pretty high tech! You come in, pay, sign into the computer and get a password. Then you walk over to the 3-4 computers on the wall and sign into the court you want to play. Each individual player has their own name + password. Their are practice courts and challenge courts. The practice courts are 4 players only , so if your only a pair, you share with another couple. Also, there's 1-2 table tennis tables, or ping pong tables some would call it. The bathrooms are pretty big with 3-4 stalls. I like the reservation computer idea, if it times up, its up, get your butt off the court. Each reservation is 30 minutes long only. The computers show how long the wait time is and whose in queue. The roof is pretty high and there's adequate room around the courts. There's only 1 court that's hard wood. They also sell accessories like rackets, birdies, shoes, drinks, and candy. It's 7 dollars normally, unless you go during their lunch special which knocks it down to 5. read more

I've been here twice now since my friends frequent this place for indoor badminton. The concept is easy, go in, pay a fee and you can play all day (if you have the energy for it). They have several computers on the side to "sign in" or "reserve" a court. Usually, when the place is crowded, you're supposed to only play in one court for 30 minutes and then you have to switch with other players. If you don't have a racket, you can rent one. The rental price vary from $3 to about $8 depends on what kind of racket you want. They also sell the birdies (shuttle cocks). The reason I only give 3 stars is that ventilation could be better..especially during summer time and when it's crowded, it can get very stuffy. Also, they didn't have any water fountain, so you either have to bring your own water or buy drinks from them. Overall, it's an ok place to play badminton, it does the job! read more

Extremely rude staff. I am from San Diego and had come home to visit family and play some badminton. My cousin and I spotted an empty court and went over to hit on it. We had hit for maybe 30 seconds and we hear someone yelling at us to "get off his court" in a rude, mean, and aggressive way. Apparently, the court was reserved for training, although my cousin and I did not notice any signs and had no idea. Later on, someone explained the court reservation system to me. Our bad for not knowing that. However, that does not excuse the disrespect we experienced from the staff. We are all just people here to have a good time and play badminton. Please treat everyone with some basic manners and respect. read more

I used to come here all the time in high school to play badminton with friends, but I can't justify coming here anymore. This place is stuffy, expensive, and overcrowded. It's hard to get a court, and it's hot/humid because of a lack of ventilation. They also don't have a water fountain, so if you forget your water you're out of luck or you have to buy from them. Entry fee is $11 (cash only) for adults 18 or older, and you can stay as long as you want. You get a login after you pay, and you can use this login info to sign up for courts on the computers on the side. The courts are okay - the lines are clear, the ground is cushioned, and the nets are at a good height. People are usually pretty open to playing games with strangers, which is a plus because you get exposure to playing with other peoples' styles. Don't come here during their Bintang training sessions though (they close off half the courts for club/team members). I would come back if the price dropped, but for $11 I would rather spend my money doing something else :( read more

This is actually my favorite badminton gym out of the ones I've visited in the past months. It has about 12 courts, making it less crowded than other places. I also dig their court reservation system - when you sign in, you also sign up for a password that you can use at other computer stations around the gym to sign up for court time. This way, you don't feel too bad about kicking people off your court so that you can play. I'm also a fan of their lighting - it's not too bright like at other gyms where it makes it hard to see an incoming birdie. It's $7 when you go on the weekends and weekday evenings. It's cheaper by $2-3 if you go at other times. The one thing I'm not too fond of here is that they don't have water fountains. They make a killing off their cold drinks that they sell to the people not in the know that didn't bring water/drinks with them. Remember to bring your own water!! read more

I was surprised that I have not reviewed this place. I've done a lot of Meetup events here and brought a lot of my friends to play. I like the bright and big space inside. Plus, the computer system in booking a court is one fair rule. Now, if only people would follow it, then there'd be peace on earth. Unfortunately, peace is too far to touch. Just shrug your shoulders and wait. If you don't have a badminton racket, they do rent out several ones in exchange of your driver's license. Once you break the racket, you pay for it. They're not cheap. Cheap rackets are definitely heavy. The lighter, the higher the price. Or, just buy your own. They sell both rubber and feather shuttlecocks, too. They're reasonable enough. Overall, one hardcore and sweaty workout. So, bring extra clothes and socks for changing. Be sure to bring pain meds. Your joints will definitely hurt. *laughs* Who wants to play? This review is only on coach Jon with whom my son got trained. My son is a novice and never learnt badminton and was very interested to learn it. He is not a naturally athletic kid and call him a bit lazy at physical activities. The only sport that interested him was badminton and he developed a strong desire to go to the classes. After a wait of around 6+ months, we could finally get a spot with coach Jon. First class started and the only thing my son did pretty much was running 15 rounds around the court in the name of the punishments for not listening to coach Jon. I was thinking that the coach is really strict and my son will learn the game the right way. I had to motivate my son to go for the second class telling how usually the badminton coaches are strict to bring up and out the game in a player. This time he only ran 5 rounds as a punishment, but lost completely when the coach asked him why he is using his left leg more than the right leg. This guy was talking to a 11 year old, who don't know any damn thing about how body physics help to play efficient game and my son put a blank face not knowing whether to answer the question or how to answer the question. He was kept standing idly for half hour and then the coaching continued. When I approached coach Jon for a make-up class as we missed our second class, he was telling me that he can't talk to walls. He said he will observe my son for one more month and decide whether to continue or not. His way of communication to me as a parent also was very rude. How can he talk to me rudely as I wasn't even in the picture to know what happened? If coach Jon only wants to train the kids who are naturally skilled to play badminton, he should evaluate the students and decide whether he wants to take a kid or not. Collecting money from the parents in the name of coaching and then dropping the towel after the first class itself is not a professional way of coaching the kids. After the two classes, I have decided not to ever consider bintang as the place where my kids will get trained. I am here, left with a kid who was enthusiastic to learn how to play badminton, completely shattered and down mentally on a Sunday. I hope coach Jon uses his brain (if he has one) to come out with a strategy on whom to train and whom not to train so families doesn't have to deal with mentally down kids at home. read more

Sign ups are completely useless here, no one is signing up and the 5 out of 50 people that did sign up, left before the time was up and all of the times and names are wrong anyways! Some coach said he had 4 of the 12 courts reserved all day so theres only 8 courts max at this stupid location. I paid 20 fucking dollars for me and my friend to sit here for an hour? First of all, this place is so hard to find. It is behind Fry's if you are planning to go. It was my first time at this Bintang. I walked in, the guy behind the counter saw me but didn't say anything so i walked pass the counter to see the courts. All the courts are taken, so i went back and asked the same guy how the system worked with all the courts are full. He explained to me like i was stupid. Not bad, it's alright. It's a small little play area with about 10 courts for those who enjoy playing badminton. When I bent down to hit the birdie, I knew right then and there that my butt muscles were going to hurt like shit the next day..... My theory was right. Also, my forearm was SO numb, I literally couldn't pick up anything with that arm.. I pick up chopsticks during dinner, and they drop to the ground. I pick up food, they drop in my mouth (hehe.. luckily).. but I choked once .....don't tell anyone that.. except I just did... I couldn't use my arm for 3 days... Anyway, DON'T.. come in long/casual attire.. Because I did. And I was the only one who did. And it was hot. Wearing jeans and a vest and casual converse shoes with huge holes on the heels. It's a nice enough facility, with 10 courts, a practice court, and a ping pong table. Cheap, too, at $7 entrance per person, unlimited play on 30-minute rotating courts. Eclectic crowd -- beginners and advanced, families and students, casual and hard-core players. Mostly Asians and Indo-Aryans, with the occassional white guy. The gym is well lit, the floors are cushioned and have traction, and the nets are hung at the correct height. There are people of all levels here ranging from beginner to professional and it's not too hard to pick up a game with others. I come here to play badminton every so often, as it is the better of the two Bintang locations near where I live. (The sunnyvale location is cramped and has low ceilings, which is awful for playing this sport. The milpitas location is the newest and best if you are willing to drive that far / brave the traffic.) There are plenty of courts available on weekday evenings after work. The players are friendly, competitive, and accommodating to novices like me who can be frustrating to play with at all. The system for reserving courts in 30 minute intervals is pretty lousy: it is a poorly designed website running on 1990s era PC's that is frustrating at best, if you can remember the username and password you are assigned upon entry. The prices are reasonable ($8 for a day pass) for occasional visitors, and the memberships dont seem unreasonable if you are a regular. The only negative is that it can get kind of stuffy because there are fewer ventilation openings than at other gyms. read more

I came here for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. I've played badminton in school before (high school and college) but never in a badminton club/gym, so this was a first for me. The space itself is nice - the courts are laid out in a grid with clear lines and a fair amount of space between each court, and benches between the courts where you can leave your belongings. Very high ceilings, though it didn't look like there was much ventilation beyond a single fan placed at the back of the warehouse. It can get really gross and humid/heavy because of the bad ventilation, so be prepared. Throughout the several hours I was there anywhere from one to several courts were being used for drills by, presumably, students who were having either private or group lessons; otherwise there are a fair number of courts available for use. When I came, it was "unusually quiet" (said my friend, who comes often) for a Sunday afternoon; I cant comment on the court reservation system The parking lot can get very crowded on busy nights, as I drive past this area often when I'm in Campbell. The driveway isn't hard to miss if you have GPS/navigation, but the fence/building is unlabeled. Since it's right around a couple of corners/turns in the road just make sure to look both ways before pulling out or turning in. The gym itself is in a redone warehouse space that is average - nothing special but it's nice enough. There are stacks of flats stacked up around the inside of the entrance - Gatorade, tea, water, etc. - and there are a couple of refrigerators selling drinks for the sweaty and thirsty players. Once thing that is a little appalling to me is there is no water fountain of any sort. If you run out of water and need hydration, your only options are going without (which is ridiculous - what kind of gym doesn't have a water fountain for its members?) or buying drinks here. The drinks are pricey and you can definitely buy them cheaper elsewhere, so make sure to bring enough water/liquid to last you the amount of time you'll be playing. read more

I have been to a bunch of badminton gyms and I have to say Monday nights here are pretty fun. They have 3 challenge courts and a computer system that lets you sign on a court. The people are also not snobby and will play with you as well if you signed on the computer to play. I would say the wait time after you sign on a court is no more than 25 minutes. On the challenge court if you win then you stay on till you lose. Drop in is $8 dollars. Which is the average price you pay to play everywhere. The receptionist was also one of the nicest that I have ever experienced. She was very informative and very helpful. Parking was also pretty good as well. I would say on a Monday night it is not bad. I have not been there any other night so I will have to update my review when I go on the other nights. So far I am a happy camper and will for sure be coming here on Monday nights after work. read more

My first time here and I'm disappointed with this facility. There's technically only 10 good courts. The flooring on court 11 is worn out at multiple places. The court sign up system was screwed up so there were sheets of paper where you wrote names. The parking is limited and fills up fast, even on weekday evenings. There's no water fountain here either. Also, 4 courts are challenge courts. Other courts only have a 30 min limit. Some of the other courts are also reserved for private coaching. I don't think I'll be back here. read more

I still give it a 4 stars though cause it says 'YAY, I'm a fan!' If I had to nip pick something, I say I don't like their rotating system. Everyone pays the same price and some of the courts are for "Challenges" whom hog up the same darn court all night long! Some couple players don't know how to rotate so my suggestion is to have atleast 8 people in your group and keep signing up for the same court if you actually want to play, lol. The facilities are great. Nice courts. Lots of courts. High ceilings (unlike at the Sunnyvale location). I just have some issues with the signup system. Came on a Saturday once. It was super busy with lots of teens. Some little whipper-snapper punks totally deleted our entire group of 4 off the court in the computer queue sign-up system (since the passwords are limited to a set of automatically assigned animals, it doesnt take much password guessing before you're able to delete someone). We went to complain to the management, but they said they couldnt do anything about it and that there was no way to trace who was signed up. Was royally p1553d. On weeknights, ppl will sign up their group of 4 as two consecutive groups of 2. Kinda sketchy since another group of 4 wont necessarily want to split up to challenge the other group of 4 (split to 2 groups). But if you want to merge into the queue, you're free to do it. They might just give up the court. Sketchy nonetheless. It's complicated, but you'll understand once you go and have the court reservation system explained to you. read more

I've been coming here for about 10 years now, so I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of my most accurate reviews. The gym itself is mediocre, it was really good quality for its time when it first came out. Back in the mid-2000's, most of the early gyms around this area had bad lighting, overly hard floors, and here came Bintang Campbell: Grippy courts with softer wooden cushioning, spacing between courts, and better lighting. It was the place to be. Top players came in regularly Thursday and Friday nights, the facilities were superior to the surrounding gyms. Things were good. Despite issues with one of the front desk staff ladies, everything else was good, including the other people who worked here. Fast forward to the last few years here, and things are same, but different. The same flooring is now somewhat detiorated, the signs are either torn or missing, and the facilities have not been updated save for the flooring (I liked the old flooring better, although the new isn't that bad). The quality of players has been dropping as the elite players have found better, larger facilities with other better players that have also left. These days I mostly play here because of convenience, nostalgia, and the fact that I know a lot of people here (other players, the staff, etc.). But if it weren't for that, I would probably play at the other gyms. Some pluses are some of the staff, the coaches here (Nate and Holvy), and the other players. Facility is now mediocre. I'll still play here, and there are worse ones, but there are also too many better ones now for me to recommend newer players to join. read more

Just like it's Sunnyvale location, the court are padded and lighting are good. Weekends are packed just like lunch hour on weekdays. This location has a higher ceiling as compares to Sunnyvale location which makes it more airy. The changing room would need "extreme makeover" as it lacks of locker rooms, shower places, etc.... I do not like their booking system as they do not allow you to book the entire court. At busy hours, you would have to queue or share court with strangers even though you had already paid for it. read more
