It seems to be a fact of life that from time-to-time, our bodies experience wear and tear, such as aging or injuries that limit our ability to enjoy life. Speaking of good and compassionate professionals, I would heartily recommend Peak Physical Therapy in Cupertino for several reasons: 1 - From the moment I walked through the door, I was made to feel like a welcomed member of a family. The first people I met were the receptionists and, truly, they were glad to see me. I received this same welcoming feeling every time I arrived for a session, not just from the receptionists but from everyone. 2 - Of note was that my therapist NEVER treated me as just another body in some production line. Yes, I have had that experience elsewhere. She focused completely on me, quickly assessing my needs and developing an efficient plan of stretching and strength building. She was always polite and engaging, the kind of person that you would treasure as a good friend. 3 - Also telling, the other patients seemed very happy to be there as well. Obviously, their needs were being met and hope for restoration was being fostered. And that is one of the great gifts that Peak has to offer: hope. But, of course, we, as patients have a role to play in our own recovery. 4 - There are a good number of aides to assist the P/Ts. Every aide I worked with was pleasant, courteous, professional, and really helpful if I had questions about an exercise or needed a bit of help getting a strap around my big shoes. 5 - The facility itself is spacious, well-lit, clean, and feels comfortable. Items, such as towels, pillows, the treatment tables, etc. are cleaned after each patient. They have their own washer/dryer. (Not for patient use, unfortunately.) Before coming to her, I had seen several other physical therapists with no improvement, to the point where I truly believed my knees were permanently damaged. I just completed six weeks of therapy for a meniscus tear and cartilage worn down to bone on bone. I am in my late 60's. I could not walk without pain. I cannot say enough good things about Peak! My family has been to different physical therapy locations in Cupertino and the South Bay, and Peak is by far the best place. I've worked with all the therapists (Michelle, Garrett, Spencer) and most closely with Alex, and they are all hands-down incredible. The aids are great too! I've been coming on-and-off over the last two years for shoulder injury and post-surgery: - I didn't feel fully supported by my surgical team, but I felt so so supported by Peak. I found Peak Physical Therapy through Yelp so it's only fitting to post a review of my experience here (+Google). It's been a 10/10 experience for me at Peak Physical Therapy!! I started doing PT sessions at this clinic mid-September. Since then, I've seen 4 different physical therapists (Michelle, Genevieve, Alex, and Kevin) due to scheduling conflict on my end. Each of them have been so gracious, empathic, and very supportive of my treatment plan. I was feeling somewhat hopeless after having to deal with the effects of wearing the camboot for 6 weeks. Fast forward to being under Peak's care for 7 weeks now, I'm feeling more mobile, confident, and efficient in performing my daily tasks as a Preschool Teacher. I also have a better understanding of how my body works and do feel well-informed of what I ought to do in case a familiar pain within the area of my injury comes to surface. I always come here when I'm injured and broken and then Garrett always puts me back together again. Their staff is friendly and professional, the space is open and well lit and has all the equipment you need to rehab your injury. Even though there are always several patients doing therapy at any given time, the staff keeps everyone well spaced out. I recently had a meniscal transplant surgery and needed several months of intensive physical therapy rehabilitation. As I was looking for a physical therapist (PT), it was very difficult to find anyone who had seen a patient with a meniscal transplant before me because it is such a rare operation. I am so unbelievably thrilled that I found Michelle Blacklock, and I honestly couldn't ask for a more compassionate, thorough, and kind person to work with over the last half a year! I really appreciated being able to meet Michelle in person for a (if I'm remembering correctly) 10-15 minute free consultation while I was choosing my PT. I decided to go with her and haven't looked back since! She has consistently been an inspiring and positive presence throughout my whole recovery--her bedside manner is very warm and easy to get along with, and she has a clear, logical way of explaining how each of the exercises she assigns will help target specific muscles or tendons for strengthening. She never pushed me to a point where my body wasn't ready for it, and she always listened to me if something was borderline or a little too much to handle. She always made sure to encourage me throughout some of the toughest stages and always had such an optimistic outlook on my progression, which was very important when I was mentally struggling with my recovery. When I did some physical therapy while being out of town, I really missed how detail-oriented Michelle is as well as her overall spirit. Truly one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to work with! I would also love to sing praises of the office staff (Tiffany and Martina I believe), who worked tirelessly to help with the billing process or to get me appointments if I needed to get off the waitlist and see Michelle sooner. Dealing with insurance companies is awful on the best of days, and Tiffany always was on top of submitting authorization forms and following up with mistakes that the insurance made which allowed me to focus less on the paperwork and more on my recovery, which was extremely relieving after an intense operation. The whole staff at Peak are very competent and kind people--exactly the type of people you need on your side if you need any type of healthcare. I feel like these places pass you off to a an aid, and nobody ever pays attention to how you do the exercises.... and they trust you are counting the repetitions. The physical therapists at Peak are amazing! They are extremely knowledgeable, have many specializations (jaw and neck seemed the most impressive to me), and run a terrific clinic (clean, welcoming, and never overly crowded - even before COVID). I had to rehab my knee after a patellar tendon rupture and a follow on surgery for a bone cyst I developed while recovering. This was by far the hardest rehab I've been though (and I've been through a bunch); in total I spent 3+ years doing PT. Genevieve Cleveland was my physical therapist and she is a literal miracle worker. She would take the time to explain the mechanics and biology of my knee, answered all my questions (no matter how dumb), and knew how hard to push me to make progress without setbacks and injury; I can't say enough about Genevieve. Over my time at Peak PT I got to observe all the therapists working with a lot of different types of patients with a variety of challenges: seniors, overweight people, folks with reduced mental faculty. They were always extremely professional and kind while still getting the job done. Peak PT works with all kinds of patients: everyone from elderly folks to athletes (football, soccer, ballet, runners, and so many more). This was particularly important to me as a somewhat active person; in my experience if you want to ever get back your full functionality and even have a shot at returning to your sport/hobby you need to work with a therapist that works with athletes. Bottom line: you can't go wrong going to Peak. In my own experience, choosing who you do PT with is as (or more) important than who your surgeon is, so if you don't have a first hand reference from a reliable source it can be nightmare trying to choose a place. And extremely difficult to find a really top notch place like Peak PT in Cupertino. read more

I can't say enough good things about Alex Liang at Peak Physical Therapy!! Alex has been helping my mom recover from a rare but serious foot injury that required surgery. The expected recovery process has been described by many others online as long and painful, but with Alex' help she has been gaining the muscle strength, skills and confidence to walk correctly again with minimal pain and no walking aides!! I have been coming to this group for PT for over 10 years. Always received great care. I was more impressed recently when I observed that they really pay attention to patients with special needs. This morning I saw an Aid walking a woman with a cane to her car after her therapy session. And then they blocked a parking space close to the entrance for another patient who's on wheelchair. An Aid actually went out to help her get into the wheelchair and wheeled her into the clinic! Don't think many clinics would pay that much attention to help their patients! read more

Decided to finally get my TMJ checked out after over 10 years of popping. I had 8 sessions with Genevieve, who is an expert in that specific joint. Even though my ligament was stretched over the years (can't be in stretched) it felt greatly improved and stabilized. Before, any slight movement would easily shift it out of place and create the pop. In addition to improving my TMJ, the exercises also helped improve my posture, allowing my shoulders to externally rotate more. Highly recommend. read more

My first time with physical therapy for a shoulder problem where I couldn't raise my arm above my head or behind my back. I was lucky to be a patient of Garrett's. I visited once or twice a week over the course of a few months. The stretching, massages, and exercises all helped so that my shoulder is back to normal. Garrett also provided exercises for me to do at home as well as modified exercises when I went on vacation. My family has done appointments with Peak Physical Therapy for close to three years for different issues and every time we have received five star service. All therapists and support staff here are extremely professional. Each appointment starts on time. It includes check on the current status, muscle tissue massage as needed, exercises and ice/heat pack treatment. Things that stand out - very cordial staff. Easy to talk to, explain issues and discuss possible treatments. Cleanliness - with COVID 19, I was worried, however they keep the place and all equipment super clean. I have a really positive experience at Peak Physical Therapy. I had some severe headache and caused me to use 3 days sick leave. I scheduled an appointment at Peak Physical Therapy for a four-sessions treatment. Michelle was super nice and experienced, she found out the headache was actually due to overuse of the muscles on my shoulders, which was an outcome that the muscles on my back were weak. She helped me made some plans to practice those muscles to alleviate the pressure on my shoulders and corrected the postures when I'm working. It's getting much better after the treatment. I'm also happy to see that they're using a fancy web portal to deliver exercise videos and plans to the patient, which is super helpful when at home. read more

Peak Physical Therapy is AMAZING! I have been going off and on for a few years for various injuries. I have seen Garret all of the times. And all of the times each injury has improved. The most significant recovery has been recently. I started seeing him back in March due to knee pain. I was training for an Ironman triathlon and could barely run 15 minutes without my knee throbbing. He gave me strengthening massages and would do deep pressure massage every appointment. With the combination of appointments and me doing the exercises I was slowly able to work up to running again! I was STOKED! I could finally do a 17 mile run with ZERO knee pain all due to Garret and his expertise! I would go back in a heartbeat if any injury flares up!! They're amazing, qualified, intentional and knowledgeable about....everything! Highly recommended and would never go anywhere else! (I did try somewhere else one time, my company offered it and it was closer to my house- when I told the physical therapist I normally go to Peak Physical therapy, she paused and looked at me and said in Cupertino? Peak is the best place for athletes to go for therapy. I have gone to Peak for post operations for my shoulder, and foot. I have also gone for strengthening my knees and back (sports take a toll, but its worth it). I am currently finishing up my post-op therapy for my shoulder with Garrett. Garrett's ability to assess what is going on and what needs to be accomplished is the reason why Peak is so great. I had moments where I felt I could do anything and Garret was there to tell me otherwise. He also makes sure that my form is proper and that I'm not taking any shortcuts in my work out. His communication with my orthopedics specialist goes a long way when i have follow-up appointments as well! Another great part about working with Garrett is he challenges you and makes sure your progress is "real" and not "inflated". After going to therapy for a while, some of the workouts "appeared" easy; however Garrett will throw curveballs that will catch you off guard and it displays your "real" progress. An example of this is when he tests my shoulder to respond to sudden impact. I would lay on my back with my arm in the air and have to keep it in the same spot as he would come at it from many angles and try to move it. I thought that was getting easy until he made me do it standing up using a thera-band to increase the challenge. I was not as strong as I thought I was. Garret always challenges you to show improvement WITHOUT hurting yourself. The entire staff is awesome at Peak from the front desk (Audrey and Claire), to the PT helpers (Spencer, Brandon, and Dan). I am very pleased with every aspect of Peak Physical Therapy for the treatment of hip soreness. On my first visit, Kelsey diagnosed my problem as a result of poor posture and how I walk, which resolved my original issue. Over the course of 10 visits, she identified two other issues with my hip, which were cleared up with her suggested changes and therapy. Before my treatments, I would have soreness in my hip after walking for 20 minutes. I can now go on 3-hour hikes with no issues. I also had no issues with insurance problems, which is nice. I should add that I just walked in to get treatment for my hip. I had no prescription from a doctor (which most people don't know is allowed). read more

As a recreational runner, I received treatment from Garrett between May through Dec of 2013 for severe shin splint issues I had. Garrett is versed in sports therapy and conditioning and has given me effective deep tissue massages and various rehab/strength exercises to do at the facility and at home for my lower legs as well as the core area (with emphasis on strengthening the glutes and hips). He also gave me recommendations on products I could purchase and use at home as well as excellent advice to prevent recurring injuries. After doing some researches in best physical therapy place around Cupertino / Sunnyvale area, I decided to give a try at Peak Physical Therapy even thought it is out-of-network for my insurance plan. And I have no regret in making this decision. I had a serious knee injury about over 4 years ago. The physical therapist at that time was prescribing a program that is too aggressive for my condition that had caused setbacks and injuries. Since then I have visited many doctors in many fields trying to recover from the accumulated series of injuries. After having stem cell therapy on my knee early this year, I was told that it is very important to do physical therapy afterwards in order to achieve the optimum result. So I was very careful in choosing one hoping that will not cause the same setbacks like last time. After several visits, I had such a relief and had a lot of confidence that this time I have picked the perfect place to get the therapy I need. I would like to give a big applause to my physical therapist, Michelle Blacklock. During the first visit, she carefully examined my current condition, asked about my injury history, what went wrong with my past doctor visits / therapy sessions, what type of doctors I have visited and their results, what is my concern and what I would like to achieve. She is a good listener, very thorough and is extremely patient. She then prescribed a program that is gentle but yet effective in progressively strengthening the required muscles on my knee. She reviews how I do those exercises and reminds me of any incorrect postures. And she constantly asks me if I have any questions on anything related to the exercises I am doing, or any other questions I would like to ask. She is very professional, knowledgeable, helpful and caring. It has been ~2.5 months since my first visit. I feel my knee is a lot better and stronger now, and I am confident that I could eventually go back and do most of the activities (e.g. badminton, cycling, hiking, traveling, jogging) I was doing before my injury, and my ultimate goal is to do skiing again! Peak Physical Therapy in Cupertino is the best PT clinic I have been to. The overall feel of this clinic makes you feel very assured and comfortable. The staff from the Front Desk, to the PT helpers, to the Therapists themselves are all very attentive and professional. The clinic is very clean and well equipped. Everything is well cleaned after each patient is finished and everyone does their best to make you feel welcome and comfortable... and that's very important to me.
