    3 days after first appt.
    Sam B.

One of their ads caught my attention on FB, so I called to clarify the process, to minimize surprises. Whoever answered the "new patient" line was friendly and knowledgable, causing me to feel comfortable enough to come in for the first time. Luckily there were quite a few appt. times available, so I booked this past Wednesday to come in in the early afternoon. The location is super convenient for me, and they have a big parking lot. It is always packed when I've visited, but I never had an issue finding spots. There were a lot of people when I got there which made me feel a little less nervous. Most of them were pretty young, even the people working the place including the nurses and the people who stick you. The front desk ladies on Wednesday were pretty on point. They explained the first steps and answered all my questions. Most of them were welcoming. MOST. I waited a little bit to get my identity verified and to take the 30min questionnaire (re: health history, privacy, etc.) I had quite a few clarifying questions about the questionnaire, but the nurse answered all of them. The physical was non-intrusive and explained up front. I was assigned a donation section, and a very nice lady did an excellent job sticking me painlessly. I was pretty surprised because the nurse had said it was a pretty big needle. I wish they told you up front you're going to have to "pump" your fist while the machine takes your blood because my nails were killing me when I did so. I asked for something to squeeze (since I saw a lady with a stress ball), and they gave me wadded up, latex gloves that were better than nothing, but got pulverized real quick. Once hooked up, I thought all was smooth sailing, and then the machine started beeping and went off after only a couple minutes. Apparently the blood was having a tough time going back into my body, so they wanted to switch arms. I told them that the nurse earlier said the veins on my other arm were not ideal, so I didn't know if that would even work. They said, "Let's try any way". We switch arms, and the machine kept beeping and shutting off every couple minutes. I noticed my arm starting to bubble, and they told me I was developing a hematoma and had to stop the process. Three days later, my arm is still pretty dang bruised, but they told me how to treat it. I asked if it was anything I could have helped, and they said no, not really, except to be super hydrated. I was? I was there for over three hours my first day, but I only stayed on the machine a fraction of the time. We did not get close to finishing, and they couldn't return all my blood. I asked if I should even try to come back, and they said they recommend coming back at least a second time since they throw away everything I had just donated because they have to test the first donation to my second. Today is Saturday (three days after the first appt.) I called the "current patient" line over 4 hours before my appt. today to see if I should still come in since my arm is bruised still. No one picked up, and I left a voicemail. No one ever returned my call. I drove there 30mins before my appt. time to ask in person. Brittni at the front desk was completely opposite of the Wednesday staff that I was brightly greeted by. I say hello, and she just looks back down and says in a monotone, "What's your appt. time?" She looked like she was put out by being there. I tell her when it is, then that I'm not sure if I should donate and showed her my arm. She said if it was still sore, then probably not. I told her I had called hours before about this, but she didn't blink an eye. She said I could go talk to the nurse "if u want". I talk to the nurse who had the same sort of apathetic attitude as Ms. Brittni over here. He said my bruising wouldn't go away for at least a few more days and to keep putting hot compresses on it. I go back up front to tell Brittni I need to cancel, and she says again like a monotone parrot, "What's your appt. time?" even though I just spoke to this chick 2 minutes ago. Sheesh. And it wasn't nearly as busy as it was Wednesday. I tell her again and that the nurse told me I couldn't donate. "Can you please cancel my appt.?" She says, "Eh, it doesn't really matter." I say, "Okay, thanks." She says nothing. Man, Brittni sucks as a front desk person. I've been told I have small veins by RedCross, so I think my experience was a one-off. It seemed like everyone else was having a much smoother time of it. Wednesday staff was much better than Saturday staff it seemed. They didn't seem to give a sh*t. So, if you got big ol' veins, I think it could be worth your time. It's key to bring your own stress ball and your own entertainment (for waiting around and especially for when they're drawing blood). I would avoid plug-in headphones in case they drape the blood tubes over you like they had to do with me (when they switched arms) since they kept getting all entangled every time my machine stopped.

Rude front desk workers! I was given attitude, and the others that were being helped looked awfully upset with them too.

I've been coming here since the center opened. Very clean, knowledgeable staff, friendly environment. Great place to donate plasma.

They all know how to keep a professional demeanor and attitude while performing donation tasks. Today was the first time I had a bad experience donating. The technician that was responsible for administering the needle maintained a professional demeanor as stated above, however was neither confident or competent in her job. There was no line at all when I went in to donate, but it still took her 45 minutes to get me started. While I was waiting I noticed that she had to switch arms with the donor next to me, so when she started working on me I watched how she manipulated the needle. This technician had zero confidence putting the needle in my arm and it looked a little odd how she placed it. Sure enough turned out to be a bubble, and they were gonna switch me to the other arm, but I had to leave soon so I just asked to leave. The nurse that pulled me aside to make sure I didn't pass out gave me some snacks, and had me sit for 30 minutes. I only lost a few Milo grams of blood, and the bubble took place during the saline flow. Right before I left though someone else had been pricked incorrectly, and they told him he lost so much blood he couldn't donate until after waiting 8 weeks. So it really depends on who you get and what experience they have with this line of work. For 2 months this was the only problem I've had at this location.

The first six times donating plasma it was a fairly simple process. Of course you have to fill out…read morethe annoying questionnaire but that is understandable. Once finished with the questionnaire you have to wait again to get blood draw, weighed, temperature, blood pressure, etc. then wait again... for a card, to go into the 3 different colored sections. The first 6 plasma draws went well. The last 2 plasma draws were a disaster. I have a huge bruise from two weeks ago. Thursday, the phlebotomist wasn't able to get a blood draw. I've always been told that I have really good veins. Thursday, the phlebotomist tried to change the needle into my other arm but I had the card which said only the left arm. Then she tried telling me that she noticed my veins didn't look good. This was a total lie as I've never had a problem with getting blood draws or plasma before. And I saw the nurse prior to being seated in her area.
