This place has rude & incompetent staff. They also exploit the donations by not paying sufficient for plasma and time. Lines are long and they leave you hooked up after donations for a long time. Sometimes it takes longer than 2 hours to do a donation. That is ridiculous. They are for profit and should definitely be paying a lot more. They don't even send out competitive offers. read more

It depends on who you get. I've been going to this BioLife location for 2 months now, and I have had nothing but positive, professional interactions with the staff. They all know how to keep a professional demeanor and attitude while performing donation tasks. Today was the first time I had a bad experience donating. The technician that was responsible for administering the needle maintained a professional demeanor as stated above, however was neither confident or competent in her job. There was no line at all when I went in to donate, but it still took her 45 minutes to get me started. While I was waiting I noticed that she had to switch arms with the donor next to me, so when she started working on me I watched how she manipulated the needle. This technician had zero confidence putting the needle in my arm and it looked a little odd how she placed it. Sure enough turned out to be a bubble, and they were gonna switch me to the other arm, but I had to leave soon so I just asked to leave. The nurse that pulled me aside to make sure I didn't pass out gave me some snacks, and had me sit for 30 minutes. I only lost a few Milo grams of blood, and the bubble took place during the saline flow. Right before I left though someone else had been pricked incorrectly, and they told him he lost so much blood he couldn't donate until after waiting 8 weeks. So it really depends on who you get and what experience they have with this line of work. For 2 months this was the only problem I've had at this location. read more

I donated at bio life for years and finally had enough of their 3 hour lines just to be seated. This place you maybe wait in line for maybe 20 minutes at most on a busy day. The techs are always super nice and informative. I've honestly not had a bad experience here yet, the worst is when you can hear the techs having full on conversations with eachother and not moving the line along but with how short the lines are and how much work these guys are put through it doesn't bother me.. Nothing but Stupid kids that don't know what they are doing. They're training isn't long enough at all. It's like they take anyone off the street and let them work here. I've been donating here for over 3+ years and have never had this issue. I got two huge bruises on my arms because the kid didn't know what he was doing. Couldn't find my vein on my left arm so he said we have to stick the other arm. Guess what happened... yup you're right, the idiot couldn't find that vein either. I was then deferred for two weeks because that duma$$ put two huge bruises in my arms. So now I couldn't donate for something THAT WASN'T MY FAULT! See pictures for proof. I struggle to even give them one star. The entire initial experience with them was horrible! Understaffed, unprofessional, unfriendly, and absolutely unorganized. New donor process was a joke. Personal questions asked at the front counter, in ear-shot of all donors waiting to donate. Kiosk to answer health questions didn't work, as employee entered my wrong DOB at the front counter during check-in. Finally, after getting my DOB corrected in their system, I answered all health questions at kiosk, which indicated that everything looked good. Got finger stick, and another review of my answered health questions. Told, again, that everything looked good to donate. Waited 45 minutes to get a physical exam, because it took them 45 minutes to conduct my wife's physical exam. Found out later, from my wife, that the staff member (a male) conducting her physical went underneath her thin t-shirt to check her heart and lungs, and even had her pull her shirt up to push on her abdomen. I've never heard of someone (especially a female) having a medical assistant go underneath her shirt like that. Talking with others (including females) who have also donated at this location, they said that their physical exam was only 10 minutes, and definitely did not include under-the-shirt exams. So, now, with a significant time gap between my wife's progress through this ordeal, and mine, I asked a staff member if my wife could wait until my physical exam was complete before she went back to donate, so we could go back together. They told us no, as there was a time limit on her getting back to donate. Wow. They seemingly weren't too concerned about a time limit while performing a questionable physical exam on her for 45 minutes. Then, to add to the whole experience, it wasn't until I had been there for nearly 3 hours, already, that I was told I couldn't donate, as I had lived in Europe for 2 consecutive years between 1980 and 1996, while serving an LDS Mission. I sure wish that they could have told me that sooner, as there had already been at least 2 opportunities up to that point to inform me that I was declined. Frustrated is an understatement! read more

A horrible experience! Two false positives for two different major diseases in just two visits! Wish I had read these Yelp reviews before deciding to go to this Orem Grifols facility. It CERTAINLY was NOT worth the undue pain and suffering they caused! Not by a LONG shot! Please don't bother responding with the trite CYA type response I've read given on other complaints, here. They are meaningless. The only compliment I can give is that when I spoke with an upper level manager, upon my insistence to do so, he gave what felt like a heart felt apology and recognition of this very unfortunate experience. But, that doesn't undo the harm done. They need to clean up their process, communication, and test reliability, at least! Took Grifols upwards of four weeks to disprove initial false results with 'supplemental' tests. In the meantime, while I had the thrill of wondering whether or not I'd live over a roughly 4 week period, it appears from Grifol's records, which I had to insist on being given, that they sat on their results for up to 2 weeks! Hmmm... And, they referred me to the county health department with the incorrect positive data but did NOT follow up with their false positive finding! Hmmm... Nor did they explain the VERY high false positivity of the initial test given... despite my directly asking for a ballpark idea of their facility's false positive percentage... claiming HIPA restrictions! Fortunately, when I asked the county health official that called me based on Grifol's referral on their false positive, the county was able to inform me that the test in question is highly unreliable! Hmmm... Finally, despite false positive results eventually being found, Grifols not only hasn't followed up with the county officials to whom they transmitted the subsequently disproven results, but, Grifols also informed me that I would never be able to donate blood nor plasma anywhere ever again due to their false positive reporting! Hmmm... Tempted to consider legal remedies for the unnecessary pain and suffering unduly caused and supposed permanent harm done to my medical record and ability to donate "anywhere ever again". This is what one gets from Orem Grifols for trying to do some good by donating while earning a few bucks to help pay some bills?!? Hmmm... read more

I used to donate at this location and had a few unfortunate experiences. At least 5 times over the course of a year (roughly 100 donations), they "lost" my chart and I sat there waiting around for 30 minutes before I even began the donation. I'm a pretty patient person, and the staff was really apologetic, but I just found it concerning that it happened more than once. All the phlebotomists were very capable and I have no complaints otherwise. read more

The technician did a good job. When she went on break a new technician adjusted the needle and caused a infiltration of blood under my skin. This caused swelling the size of a golf ball. Lights on the machine went off and everyone came running. They then went to my next arm and caused another infiltration. The next day I had to go to a physician because of more swelling and pain. The physician said he had never seen a bad infiltration of the veins. This was a horrible experience I was a first time plasma donor and I'll never do it again. read more

Absolutely one of the worst customer service oriented locations I've visited. They wouldn't know their head from their... I have donated blood for years. Thought I'd try plasma after I heard on the news it was needed. The first time I visited they walked me because they were to busy. Then the 2nd time I needed to wait an hour to see a Dr regarding some medication. The third time I was told no problem, you're set. I can in for my 12:15 appt and it took a half hour for someone to even help me. What a joke and a waste of time. read more

Been a loyal donor for almost 5-6 years. Complained once due to a really terrible employee. Then they actually blocked my account and told me off saying I was calling them names. Lodging a complaint for the first time in nearly half a decade isn't being abusive it's letting them know their staff has gone down hill. Do not recommend. Edit: if you must donate here avoid the closing staff they never listen and lie. DO NOT DONATE HERE there is so much false advertising with the payments when donating plasma. i was told i would make $50-$75 dollars my first donation when in reality it is only $25. back in august i tried to donate plasma but was unable to because of my eczema and did not have two veins big enough to draw blood from. they kept all of my information for the next time and told me to come back another time to try again later. when i came back just today the employees were so rude. these people don't know how to answer simple questions. i set up an appointment and they didn't have it in their system. i watched the other employees get yelled at when it wasn't their fault at all. the guy at the front desk kept questioning me about my proof of address when i was literally holding my lease in front of me, and they should have had all of my information from back in august. i had also asked them earlier if this was sufficient and they told me it was. so clearly there's no communication within the staff. they also fail to treat people nicely. i saw many walk ins come in and get yelled at for not scheduling an appointment when all they have to do is turn them away politely. once i went through the physical and they checked my veins i thought i was in the clear. i was wrong. the same employee came holding both of my files and told me i could not donate. he started yelling at me for lying on my file. apparently i could not donate because of a piercing i did not mention on the second file but mentioned it on my first one. it has been months since i got my doubles done and completely forgot about them. he yelled at me in front of everyone about lying on official papers when in the beginning i told him i had a file already filled out for them. needles to say i am now banned from all grifols biomats because i am a "dishonest and immature patient" i would NEVER come here again read more

Terrible service and unprofessional uneducated care. I have a job that requires me to always stay in top shape and consistently be checked for my health. So when I go in and their blood pressure machine says I have a severe heart arrhythmia problems I know it's their machines fault. Then one of them checks my pulse and confirms it completely normal. So you would think you use a new machine but no they continue to use a machine that they just proved wasn't working normally and then tell me I have to leave because it still threw a code they had just checked and proven false. So I point out we should use a new machine and they say we don't make mistakes. I mean your people said I was fine and the machine says I should be dead so I'm assuming that something is wrong. Looking back and seeing now how bad the reviews are for this place in general I'm not surprised. I want to help others but here I'm just helping a poorly managed facility make money without regard of actual people. If they are that rude and unwilling to listen to common sense then why are they allowed to work with people's blood. So you understand earlier that day I had my pressure checked and it was 120/73 with a heart rate of 60bpm. If that's to dangerously out of whack who actually donates here. So I went back to get my second donation in so they could at least use the first one I did and another crap experience. I get there and ask if I can get a drink since they turned off the fountains for covid. They told me no they won't give me a drink and that there is not time for me to go drink if I want to donate today. First time me or anybody I know has ever been denied a drink since it helps the donation. Tired of paying to look at good looking males/females? WELL STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY! The biomat in Orem is an easy, fast way to make money. The workers keep you calm and all belong in an Abercrombie magazine. As long as you have an hour in a day you are welcomed to give plasma. The first 5 donations you receive $50 and then after that it drops down to the normal amount, but it is worth the needle in the arm. Some tips- Stay hydrated the day before and the day of your donation. It will make your donation faster and you won't be as tired after your donation. The first donation takes about two hours because they ask tons of questions and introduce you to the whole process. I wouldn't recommend going if you faint often, because I brought in a friend that does, and he fainted and not only was it embarrassing for him but also for me. All in all, if you're a struggling college student, or just need a few extra bucks, this is the place! read more

Terrible staff and management. In the first five minutes I observed an ill-run preschool, not a professional office. Several office staff acted annoyed at having to assist me - they prefer to socialize with their coworkers. While the waiting room filled with donors, employees chatted about motorcycles; their fellow employee had to remind them of the full waiting room. I changed my mind seeing that plasma donation is a medical procedure and this was a highly unprofessional facility; my trust was at a zero in these people. Additionally, and probably most troubling, I noticed some staff (not all) regard the donors with disdain. Some donors are homeless or live below the poverty line, and it was evident that the judgmental staff thought little of them. This behavior really crosses the line. And it gets worse: the manager, Ryan, refused to hand over the medical forms I had just filled out based on some technicality yet when I asked for my social security number back, he refused very rudely and sarcastically. When I pointed out the illegality of not returning that info, he reluctantly retrieved it. So Ryan will pick and choose which rules to follow and he sarcastically disregards business ethics 101 - got it. The Biomat location in Orem should be investigated by the Better Business Bureau and the Utah Department of Health. read more

The first time I came I forgot my SS card and one of the girls told me that I could provide a SS card or a pay stub with SS card and I asked her if I could provide a digital copy and she said yes. Three hours later when I showed her a picture of my SS card she told me only digital copies of the pay stub were allowed. She miscommunicated and I wasted three hours in the plasma center trying to get a picture of my SS card. I went back with my social security card a week later. They "permanently deferred" me because 7 years ago apparently they didn't like how I answered a question at a Biomat in Mesa, Arizona. I got my cartilage pierced ten years before that and I forgot about it because I never put anything in it. I rectified the situation by disclosing the piercing the second time I went. So now because I forgot to disclose one piercing that I got 15 years ago 7 years ago in another state, I cannot donate for the rest of my life anywhere in the U.S. In order to get this information, they called Rexburg, who found out my record had been transferred to Mesa and Rexburg forgot to call them back for a half hour while I sat and waited. They called Mesa and Mesa hung up the phone with them. The employees here in Orem were very courteous and sympathetic, but I found it unprofessional to be talking bad about the Mesa and Rexburg offices. They are the same company after all. I had a good experience in Rexburg ten years ago, but my experience in Orem has definitely been very negative. read more

First impressions are EVERYTHING, especially when there are 100 options!!! I get off work in Sandy at 5:30, pick up the kids in Draper, drop them off in Eagle Mountain through peak rush hour traffic, reenter the same traffic to get up to Orem before 7. (I called earlier in the afternoon and spoke to a girl about how late a new donor can come in, she said before closing at 7) so I arrive, I have no idea where the door is, I find it. Get up to the door at 6:55 it says go around to the other side of the building. So I get in my car, drive around and park again. (This is where it gets good!) I get inside and I hear simultaneous voices, are you a new donor? I say yes. The girl looks at the clock with 4 minutes left and says "you're too late, we're closed." To which I reply "no, I have 4 minutes left. I called ahead and verified when I could arrive." She asks who i spoke to, i said the girls name and you can see the lightbulb illuminate. I then explain the first paragraph and this little bitch looks me in the eyes and says "SO?" SO!!?? So I lose my calm in that moment. She goes and gets the Manager and he asks how he can help, I tell him the situation and how she responded, calling her out, in front of her and she tried to lie!! "What!? No I- no I didn't!!" Then the Manager starts talking down to me treating me like I started it!! "Are you cool?" "Yes I'm fine!",(my hands in the air) "You sure??" "Yes I'm fine" (hands still up).. So in the end I didn't have all of the criteria to donate then, so he slips me a card with $5 extra next time written on it and asks if there was anything else he can help with, I told him to attitude train that bitch! I would NEVER trust that snot nose little shit with a needle after that! And I've been to CSL in Murray! I went back to Octapharma in Murray/Holiday. They already had my credentials on file, cleaner people, WAY FRIENDLY STAFF, WAY MORE MONEY! tell em' I sent you. ;) As long as Grifols employs people like her, I will warn people against going there. After reading the other 2 reviews, I was also deferred for not having my SSC even though I had my birth certificate and photo ID and donated to another Grifols previously. Maybe you should open up your policy..... I don't know who carries around a W2 but I guess that's my issue, nit your stupid policy. read more

I've been donating plasma for almost ten years now. The last half of that time has been at this center, and it's leagues above the other plasma center I've tried. These people are fast, courteous, and skilled. In this industry, problems happen, but these people deal with them as well as can be expected. If you're willing to put a needle in your arm to earn money and save lives, you won't find a better place to do it. read more

The staff at the Orem Biomat are usually friendly enough that I often don't mind if they have to 'fish' in my arm or restick me, but today was the WORST experience I've ever had at a plasma center. Even though almost everything that could go wrong did, if the guy (Face shield said "Mac") had been nice about it, I probably would have been more understanding. (I've been restuck before but never complained until now) He was condescending to both me, his trainee, and the girl that was leading the floor and his bedside manner was appalling. If you are looking into donating,I would say don't let him help you. Read below for said terrible experience: I had a no-flow going for a long while before someone noticed and they were able to get him to come over and take a look, and then he argued with the lead about taking a look at my stick. When he did, it had gone on so long, I was sure it was clotted. (I've donated and worked at plasma centers before so i know how this should go). He was rough, and didn't talk to me, just 'about' me while I was sitting right there, he didn't ask me a single question or explain what he was doing. His trainee was assisting but when he accidentally flicked blood all over himself and me, he tried to blame her and made her clean it up. She apologized, but he yelled out that "I was fine" and "I won't get anything from my own blood that I don't already have". He just decided to switch to the other arm without asking. He manhandled my arm to get it into position and get the cuff on, and scrubbed for less than 10 seconds. Then he checked for clots, found one, and pushed it out to keep going. After the next draw cycle, the machine said "Negative Return Pressure". And he told me that if it'd been up to him, I wouldn't be donating and would've "failed my armcheck". Even though I have only not filled up the entire plasma bottle one time. I noticed that my arm was infiltrated but they kept the procedure going which led to a golf ball size bump in my arm. When adjusting didn't work (blood was squeezing out all over the arm rest) They tried to gravity infuse, with the golf ball size lump, and understandably, didn't work. He squeezed the filter and messed with the set-up which just made it bigger. So even though I donated an entire bottle, I didn't get saline, got stuck twice, have an enormous infiltration which I'm sure will result in a hematoma, and lost blood so I am deffered for the next 8 weeks. I will say, that the people who helped at the end of my procedure were very kind and helpful. Let it be known to all reading this, that besides this phlebotomist, all other phlebs there have been very nice. My hope is just that Orem's management team can put a stop to this phlebotomist's behavior. read more

I have donated here for years. Never had a bad experience until today. The girl stabbed the needle in my arm hard to where I actually almost cried. She also flung the pressure cuff onto my head in a rude manner. After the stick a girl took a bubble out of the line which scared me seeing as ahe didn't communicate what she was doing. I have been going here for years and since I've switched to going in the morning I have had nothing but bad experiences. I always end up getting a rude girl named Ryan. She is always snippy and unpleasant. I have tried to strike up a conversation a few times and she is always short and rude. I've noticed that she is only unpleasant with minority's or people of color. I'm very disappointed and am thinking of changing donation centers due to this situation. read more
