I spent nearly 2 hours to start the process to do my first donation. The doctor looks at my Tattoo on my bicep 2 inches from when the needle will be placed. Told me I couldn't donate because of it according to their policy. I Read the tattoo policy multiple times and it states that it can't be where the needle will be placed to donate. The needle would be inserted away from where my tattoo is. The nurse wouldn't even take the time to look at my other arm.

Long wait times standing up - more than an hour

People are passing out in line due to the hour plus wait time of standing in line , they don't have enough staff

Employees are rude, wonder around with a clueless look, ignore incoming guests. Huge waste of time going there. I'll stuck with CSL.

This was my second time donating in his section, and once again he absolutely nailed it, the stick was painless, which says a lot.

The really short Native American phlebotomist really cute she's super sweet and very nice, the management team are very nice as well, the Puerto Rican or Dominican phlebotomist that's very light skinned with the dark hair she's nice and sweet as well she always remembers I need something to squeeze before pumping, the black male I think he might e Puerto Rican as well always wearing nice shoes he's very nice also. Those are my top favorites, when doing vitals I gotta give a shot out to a few and unfortunately don't know their names which I need to start doing. The big guy he's super friendly and come to find out we have the same birthday and he calls me up by name, there's the older woman who is super duper sweet and once again I'm sorry I forgot her name but I love when I'm at her booth. Just an all out friendly facility, I use to donate at CSL Plasma and they took away platinum donors getting express passes so and their staff are always either mad or tired. Keep up the great work Octapharma!!!

Then at 4:30 it seems to go down to 2, at times there's only been 1, makes for a very long wait. Once you get checked in you go over to the waiting area to be called. One time there were 3 people called before me that had come after me. When I said something they claimed the time on their ticket was before mine. Not sure how that could be because they hadn't even been checked in yet and I had already been sitting in the waiting area. The website says expect to be there 2 hours for first time but it's really about 4, it's no less than 2 hours for repeat clients. Everyone has been really nice so far.

I donated blood for the first time! The ladies here are pros at finding your vein the first time…read moreand they even mark where they will insert needle and happy it didn't hurt too much. It felt more of pinch even though it's a bigger needle. It's a good thing they do basic health check. They check your pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin levels without needle stick. The benefits of giving blood is helps maintain iron levels (if you have excess), lowers the risk of developing heart attack, helps reduce the risk of developing cancer, and boost mental health by doing a kind act of helping someone who may need blood transfusion. I have the phone application and you can schedule your appointments easily. The app allows you to track the updates of your blood journey which is bit slow to update as it took 5 days to update to processing/testing and 7 days to update to storage. After the appointment was complete I felt fine and I had a small apple juice box, water, and snack. They ask you to wait 15 mins in their seating area. Later, around lunchtime I felt a little fatigued so I ate lunch and my energy came back. Overall a positive experience.

I appreciate simplicity of making the donation process as simple as possible. Great First-Time Donation Experience…read more I had a great experience donating blood here the other day. It was actually my first time ever donating, as my doctor recommended it since I'm on TRT therapy and needed to do a Power Red donation. I was definitely a little intimidated going in since I had never done it before. I had also read a few negative reviews online beforehand, which made me a bit skeptical, but I decided to go anyway. Before my appointment I called ahead with a few questions and spoke with a really helpful staff member who gave me great advice and helped ease some of my anxiety. When I arrived, the front desk team was very friendly and welcoming. They walked me through the process and made everything easy to understand. The nurse who set up my donation was knowledgeable, patient, and very kind throughout the whole experience. Since it was my first Power Red donation, I learned the machine can be a little tricky because it cycles your plasma back into the line, so you have to keep your arm positioned a certain way. The system gave a few warnings during the process, but the head nurse came over and was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She stayed close by for much of the time to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was comfortable. The staff also checked on me multiple times and brought me snacks, including chocolate chip cookies, and set me up with my own tray and a bottle of water. It really felt like they cared about making sure donors were comfortable. It also wasn't overly crowded. I showed up around 10 AM and there were probably about ten people donating, but by the time I was halfway through my donation it had quieted down quite a bit and I had plenty of space. The chair itself was very comfortable. After finishing, I was able to relax in the recovery area and help myself to some snacks (the popcorn was great!). As an added bonus, I even received a free ticket to the Renaissance Festival for donating that day. Overall it was a very positive experience and the staff did a wonderful job helping a first-time donor feel comfortable and supported. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking to donate blood.

My siblings and I have been donating blood together for years and we started at the Scottsdale…read morelocation but have expanded to this one and Mesa. I've been here a few times now and have had mixed experiences. I wasn't able to donate on two occasions because of a slight fever and low iron, but that's not their fault! I've donated successfully a few times and it's been a smooth process each time. The phlebotomists are professional and friendly and I personally haven't had issues with the needle stick and draw. Lots of snacks and drinks available, nice receptionist at the front, and spacious location. I recommend donating at a Vitalant near you and helping others!

I went to Vitalant planning to donate whole blood, but the staff suggested I switch to a plasma…read moredonation because my hemoglobin was "really good." I agreed. After 40min, the machine couldn't draw enough plasma and the technician told me "it's still enough, we can stop here, you've given enough blood." So I left thinking at least part of my donation was collected and would be used. A few days later, I checked my Vitalant account and saw my donation listed as "Unsuccessful Draw." No explanation, no details, nothing. That means the donation was discarded -- yet the staff told me everything was "enough" and "good." This is incredibly confusing and honestly feels misleading. If the product was not usable, then say that. If nothing was collected, then say that. If partial plasma was discarded, then say that. A donor should not have to guess what happened to their own blood. I volunteered my time and my body to help people, and the lack of transparency makes me feel like my effort didn't matter. Vitalant needs major improvements: Clear communication/Transparency: Donors should be told upfront when a donation ends early and whether anything is actually usable. Or even online portal should show more details, what was taken, what was discarded, how much was taken, where is it going, who did i help, some sort of transparency. Accurate donor history: The online portal should show what was collected (blood, plasma, partial amounts) even if it's discarded. Respect for donors' time: It's discouraging to give blood only to learn from the website -- not the staff -- that it was thrown away. I want to support blood donation, but this experience left me confused, disappointed, and feeling like I wasn't told the truth. So, I am not going back to Vitalant for sure but I will still explore more options to help out people.

My experience has always been pretty good when donating blood here. Of course, so much depends on…read morethe person who is checking you in and the phlebotomist. Today I had a young man who has taken my blood before, and who is really great. He's able to know exactly where to put the needle so it's one and done and done relatively pain-free. He's like a gentle giant and I hope he is always the one that I get when I come here. Receptionist is also super nice and super helpful. She always makes sure everybody knows what promotions are going on and always has a kind of word and smile on her face. Battle refreshment area with snacks to keep up your energy. They ask you to remain for 15 minutes just to make sure you are not feeling light-headed. They also have a stash of snacks up front so you can have something before you go back to donate.

Following social distance guidelines, the receptionist checked us in one at a time and took our donor cards. Then, she called us up and had us sign in and verify that we completed our fast pass questionnaire. Everyone was required to wear masks and the chairs were spaced apart. It took a while to get called back, but the phlebotomists who helped me were very friendly and had good energy. It was fairly busy for a weekday evening, but there were still a few open chairs. The donation process was simple and didn't take too long, and they had snacks and drinks to help us recover. The floor plan is open, different than the Scottsdale location, but it was a positive experience overall and I urge those who are healthy and qualify to donate blood, it's always needed! Also for COVID-19, they are testing for the antibody and the result appears in your online profile after a week or so.
