My experience has always been pretty good when donating blood here. Of course, so much depends on the person who is checking you in and the phlebotomist. Today I had a young man who has taken my blood before, and who is really great. He's able to know exactly where to put the needle so it's one and done and done relatively pain-free. He's like a gentle giant and I hope he is always the one that I get when I come here. Receptionist is also super nice and super helpful. She always makes sure everybody knows what promotions are going on and always has a kind of word and smile on her face. Battle refreshment area with snacks to keep up your energy. They ask you to remain for 15 minutes just to make sure you are not feeling light-headed. They also have a stash of snacks up front so you can have something before you go back to donate. read more

Came here with my brother recently fo donate whole blood. We made our appointments the week before and arrived on time. Following social distance guidelines, the receptionist checked us in one at a time and took our donor cards. Then, she called us up and had us sign in and verify that we completed our fast pass questionnaire. Everyone was required to wear masks and the chairs were spaced apart. It took a while to get called back, but the phlebotomists who helped me were very friendly and had good energy. It was fairly busy for a weekday evening, but there were still a few open chairs. The donation process was simple and didn't take too long, and they had snacks and drinks to help us recover. The floor plan is open, different than the Scottsdale location, but it was a positive experience overall and I urge those who are healthy and qualify to donate blood, it's always needed! Also for COVID-19, they are testing for the antibody and the result appears in your online profile after a week or so. read more

I have the type of blood a place like this needs badly. O positive. I have a situation where I make too many red blood cells so need to donate often. Went in last month and the gal "Sophie" was awesome. Helpful, personable, etc. Went back today to a Jodi Arias knock off who with her hands shooed me to the chairs to "go hang out". I'm very busy. I can afford to pay my doctor to take blood. I do not have the patience or the time to put up with idiots like this. I wanted to give someone the gift of untainted o positive blood. I donate blood as a galloner meaning multiple times. I was deferred for elevated pulse rate that screener did not disclose how high. They will force you to sign though. It was 109 Fahrenheit outside. I arrive 15 minutes early. I told them I need to rest because it's too hot outside. They took my vitals and obviously it was high for her. I was rejected for pulse rate. Everything was okay. I wasted my time. My blood type is AB+. Not my loss but it is fine. Not coming back for very bad service and poor understanding of screener. read more

Everyone was nice and the process was super easy. They had oreos and water afterwards, so no complaints there. They did use a 16 guage needle, I don't remember them being that big in the past... but we did it anyways. Scheduling online is convenient. read more

They send you multiple emails that there need blood all the time but when you go into try to donate they say "we are only taking platelets. ". Also the last time I actually was able to donate the guy said you have great veins this will be easy. Well he got the needle half in and half out so another nurse came over and tried to get it into the vein with no success. My arm was bruised for two weeks read more

Ah yes, giving blood in the time of COVID. I had a great experience last week even though I couldn't finish my donation. Social distancing was being utilized as much as possible. Everyone was in masks except for when eating/drinking in the recovery area. It was okay to take your mask off during the donation if you needed to drink some water. Appointments are required-- I saw a man turned away because he hadn't made one. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. Since it's summer, my temperature read 108 when I entered (LOL) and pretty much everyone had to sit and wait to cool down, about 10-20 minutes. Things were quite speedy for me since I had my Vitalant card and did the day-of questionnaire several hours earlier. All of the phlebotomists were friendly and professional. This staff at this United Blood service is first rate. Always quick and effiiant. They are always staffed and ready to go when I arrive for my appointment. I've donated blood at this location 10+ times and have never had to wait. Of course, I can't encourage everyone enough to donate and donate often. read more

Terrible staffing and very disorganized!! I showed up for my appointment and I get taken back to the computer to get checked in. The girl proceeds to tell me that they have no blood bags! Told me they would be arriving in about an hour!! I was there at 10 AM right after they opened!! Isn't it somebody's job to make sure there are bags to collect people's blood? I was SO annoyed that I arranged my whole morning around that appt. I walked out and not going back to that location. Last two times I was there the appts were a disaster!! read more

Giving blood can be a little stressful, but the staff here is pretty cool. My only complaint is that it takes so long. I gave double reds for my birthday and it took 2.5 hours from when I walked in the door- and I have big garden hose veins so it wasn't me. My wife was a little upset because we were going on vacation and it delayed our trip a tad. But enough about me. The phlebotemist didn't miss my vein, I got to watch Tremmors on TV and pigged out on cookies and juice. I highly recommend that you give blood- if not here then somewhere else. read more

I've been to the Mesa location twice already and i get treated by the nicest people. the facility is really clean and they are very gentle in the process of drawing blood. I've always been left with bruising or busted vein anywhere else i go and i have hard to find veins, so i was amazed on how gentle they were dealing with me and patient. I have high iron and have to get blood drawn quite regularly and its comforting to know i dont have to dread the process. they have every type of snack you can think of along with different beverages to hydrate. read more

I called to make appointments for me and my daughter to go on a Sunday. I have been reluctant to give because I have very small veins so I was nervous to donate. I finally decided to go especially because I have O negative. Well when we got there no one was at the front desk but a sign saying no one was working the desk and to sign in. First of all there was no sign in sheet that we could see and if it was not for another person there that was donating and pointing it out way behind the desk we would not have seen it. No one else was there to assist us except one nurse that just stared at us for a good ten minutes. It was a very strange feeling. Not sure why she just stood and stared at us. She appeared to be the only one working. There was two people already donating and six including us waiting to be seen. Not sure how long the others had been waiting. It was close to our donation time. After being stared at with no acknowledgment we left. I would say this location has no organization perhaps because it was a Sunday. I was very disappointed. It's a pretty crazy place. I walked in there and they started asking all sorts of questions about my sex and drug life and it kinda felt like I was at confession. And then all of the sudden they stuck a GIANT needle in me that sucked out my blood! Like what the heck!! VAMPIRES EXIST AND THIS IS WHERE THEY DWELL!!!!! Finally got up the nerve but missed a blood drive at my local YMCA. Just looked online and walked in to Vitalant. To my surprise they gave me a voucher for one ticket to the Phoenix Symphony. Been going here for 2 years now. Friendly staff, always making sure I am good to go (I have a tendency to faint if I don't eat enough before donating) and I always have to stay longer than the 15 minutes. I donate late in the afternoon, and they have never tried to rush me out the door and always ask me if I need anything. I am consistently in and out in 2 hours all together. went with my daughter to donate blood yesterday (4/10). both first timers, and both nervous but felt we should do our part in these surreal times. we had to go in one at a time and have our temperature taken. very nice woman less than an arm's length from my face NOT wearing a mask and only 1 glove asked me if i've been out of the country(not since november). using the under the tongue thermometer, it seems to be my fault she can't get a reading. she lets my daughter in, and as she is readying her trusty temperature gauge.....without changing gloves and still no mask, the question she asks my daughter is, have you been around anyone with COVID 19!!!! my daughter didn't know. do you?? has no one in there been out to get groceries, medication, or take out dinner? was anyone in there asymptomatic? including the workers. so she went and told a higher up who said"we need to err on the side of caution". my daughter who was not allowed to give blood for being honest could not sit with me. she could wait but she had to be outside. no thank you. we left. we wanted to do our part, they were very nice, BUT not protected like they should have been and seriously, now we could have it just from being around them. there has to be a more professional place to donate blood. this was all in all not a good experience. read more

United Blood Services scheduling services are the worst I have ever experienced. We were told on two separate occasions to show up after 11:30 am as walk ins. After driving over one hour each way they told they could not get us in. Facility supervisor said they had no control on the scheduling. The facility supervisor at Mesa was very apologetic and was able to work us in after a one hour wait. read more

This is a great place to give blood. I give blood every 8 weeks and have for over three years at this location. The staff are great and quickly move you through the process. Cannot say enough about how accommodating the staff is and how professional and courteous they are. read more
